Wales Online has a new interview with Steffan Rhodri, who will be playing Reg Cattermole, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Rhodri talks about how he has not read the books, but has seen a couple of the films with his kids.
"But although I've not read the books, I've read the whole sequence I'm involved in."
He notes the difficulty of having to impersonate one character [Ron Weasley] while playing another [Reg].
Rhodri is filming most of his scenes with Sophie Thompson, who plays Mafalda Hopkirk, and David O'Hara, who plays Albert Runcorn. In the books, Hermione takes on the appearance of Hopkirk and Harry takes on the appearance of Runcorn. All three actors have spent time studying the mannerisms of Dan, Emma and Rupert in their respective roles.
The actors will be in studio for five weeks from December through February.
Thanks to Pablo for the tip!

Im rereading the last book, and Im on the chapter where Harry, Ron, and Hermione are planning to infiltrate the ministry; in other words, this scene. Im excited to see it, cause its so early in the story, and I think--if done well--this scene can be a big-time clincher for the audience. Theres a lot of suspense in this one scene alone (in the entire movie, actually). Will they get caught? Crap! Thats Umbridge and a bunch of Death Eaters! Yeah, this is gonna be good; and itll be nice to return to the ministry after Ootp and see how much it has aesthetically changed. They have so much time and space in this movie to achieve all the action and all the dialogue-driven scenes, and I believe it will all balance out nicely. I doubt there will be a scene in this movie where people will get bored, just because there is so much going on, and just enough time to do it(unlike in Goblet of Fire).

This part in the book was epic, frustrating and heart pounding. I hope they can translate those feeling while watching the movie.

I essentially agree with all the previous posts. :P I really hope they do well with acting like the Trio, and I think they are on the right path to doing that by studying those characters. I wish that dude would actually *read the books* though... Maybe they could make it a rule that everyone has to read the books before acting in the movies....???

I"m so excited to see this sequence in the movie!!! I love it in the book! Its so intense and suspenseful! I hope he at least watched the other films since he wants to learn Ruperts mannerisms...that would help a lot. I saw a clip of them filming this scene with the trio and it looks like its going to be so amazing!! I cant wait!!!

I still cant get over the fact that its Dave from Gavin and Stacey. When I see the film Im half going to expect him to walk on and say "Eh, Ness, whats occurrin?" in a Welsh accent.

this was a great scene in the books, and if its half as exciting in the film itll be good. im glad to see theyre trying to keep the mannerisms of the trio in acting this. i have high hopes for it.

Mottocat, it wouldnt be necessary for Mr. Rhodri to have read all of the books for his role.

are they going to keep these actors voices when ron harry and hermione turn into them?

I agree with Mottocat, I think the actors should all read the books. I hate it how they dont feel the need to. I think Michael Gambon should especially, but Alan Rickman does a nice job without reading them.
