According a new article online, a crew has been filming footage of the Yorkshire Dales for use in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Grassington Moor and the impressive 80m limestone crag of Malham Cove will feature in the film.
Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority chairman Carl Lis said:
"It's good to think that the iconic landscape of the Dales is going to be seen by a worldwide audience in the next Harry Potter film."
Thanks to Brandon for the tip! For all we have on Deathly Hallows be sure to check out our Movie 7 section.

Cool. Should make for a very nice backdrop. Im curious to see what scenes theyll use the footage for. The Dragon scene comes to mind, but it could realistically be pretty much anything for all we know.

Probably in the dragon scene...thats the only one that comes to mind. Im sure theyre going to make the most of that sequence. Its so intense in the book and I know it will look amazing on-screen. I wonder what the dragon will look like?!

You just CANT get a better setting for the dragon scene! In the book its described as a massive grassy hilltops with a cliff, and a river of water. LOOK AT IT! ITS IT :D

I feel a lot of information on this film is being kept hush-hush. And, I must comment on the excitement Im feeling toward this location. Its exactly what I picture (I have a feeling its a camping site for the trio while theyre on the road to destroy horcruxes). Another thing that really excited me was that they were doing a lot of shooting in Scotland. Ive been picturing Scotland (or Ireland) as the landscape for the story, for some reason; it seems to fit. It has that murky, folklorish, foggy feel Ive always identified with Harry Potter.... especially now, since there is plenty of landscape to go around in this film, due to the lack of such a grandiose interior setting like Hogwarts. I heard in an interview that Yates really wants to staple this movie as a road movie, which gives me the feel hes going to be using more of that documentary-style cinematography we merely caught glimpses of in Ootp and Hbp; and I think it will be very effective in this film, since it is more grungy and progressively more grounded in reality. Im reading the book a second time, as I speak, and Im really anticipating the dialogue-driven scenes; Im hoping therell be more of those, since they do enthrall you(especially when the trio begin to turn on each other, due to their distress and uncomfortable predicament). I believe it will really test the true value and nature of their friendship, which will be interesting for the audience to see. Im really excited for this movie.

That place looks BEAUTIFUL! I really cant wait to see which scene they use it for. Hell I cant wait for Deathly Hallows period! And honestly, Im glad that we dont hear much from it because I like to have surprise. Hopefully when it comes closer for DH pt 1 they dont do what they did to HBP and keep it really secretive. :D

@kapuffy: Theyve been using the Scotland landscape in all of the films since movie 3 and I agree. It really is a beautiful country and fits the Harry Potter story so well. I cant wait to see all the camping scenes. This film is going to be primarily outside of Hogwarts so were really going to get the chance to see some beautiful scenery. I just picture it now. This film will be even more epic than the others. Its going to be amazing!!
