Radcliffe to star in new ITV drama
Daniel Radcliffe recently announced that he will commence filming for a new ITV drama, My Boy Jack, in summer 2007. The show is based on a true story of Rudyard Kipling and his son Jack, who was killed in World War I. Dan had this to say about the new project:

For many people my age, the first world war is just a topic in a history book. But, I've always been fascinated by the subject and think it's as relevant today as it ever was with young men all over the world still sacrificing their lives in the name of war... I am extremely proud to be part of the production of My Boy Jack and only hope I can do justice to the memory of the men who fought and those who died.

In other Dan-related news, a pre-recorded video of the actor and David Haig, writer and star of My Boy Jack, was shown recently at the Edinburgh Film Festival. Photos from the event can be seen here, as well as a transcript of the video's message at the "Read more" link below.

DANIEL RADCLIFFE SCRIPT

I'm Dan Radcliffe, and I'd like to tell you about a film I am making next year for ITV1.

In World War I, millions of young men were killed fighting for their country - many were only 17 years old.

It's a period I am particularly fascinated by, which is why I was thrilled to be asked by Ecosse Films to play the title role in a major new drama called My Boy Jack.

The film is about Rudyard Kipling and his son. Kipling was one of several high profile figures who took an active role in persuading young men to fight in World War I. His own son Jack, however, had such poor eyesight that the army refused to accept him. Indeed, it was only through Kipling's personal intervention that Jack eventually gained a commission with the Irish guards.

Written by and starring David Haig as Kipling, My Boy Jack is a moving and powerful story NOT ONLY of duty, sacrifice and bravery, but also the horror of war.

Today nearly a hundred years on YOUNG MEN ARE STILL GOING OFF TO FIGHT IN WAR. MANY WILL NEVER RETURN.

In My Boy Jack next year, we will remember them.

Hey guys, chill! For a start I am entitled to call anything rubbish that I want. Secondly, why shouldn't I have high standards for these films? They SHOULD be some of the best films made in the past ten years but they are not, usually due to the very bad acting of the three main characters. I totally agree about Ron making weird faces and not taking his character seriously (however I do think he is the best of them) and about Emma Watson seriously overacting, but I still think Daniel Radcliffe is the worst of him. Now, I know this has something to do with the script making it difficult for all of them to get their characters across but seriously they're getting a lot of money for this! And I'm not saying that Dan Radcliffe isn't a good person or that he doesn't work very hard, I've heard that all over the place, fact is though: IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE! So he went to a psychologist to find out what he would feel when Cedric died, errrm, big deal! His crying over the body was still painfull bad. And don't say I'm not allowed to criticise people, because I am. We're not writing a newspaper, I'm not going to be sued for libel (though I seriously doubt I would be anyway), we're just kids ALL expressinf our opinions on our favourite books and related subjects. So don't criticise me or make me out to be a bad person. I judge what I see, and it is my right so to do, because I pay to go and see these movies in the theatre, I pay to buy the dvd and I expect more for my money.

Dan is the luckiest guy in the whole world

Sounds like dan is an absoloute bore. I'm sorry but I don't think world war I is at all interesting, and it's barely related to any of the battles going on today. It seems like one of those dull drama series that nobody watches...oh well, it takes a clever actor like Johnny Depp or Anthony Hopkins to be in good roles...Daniel is just dim witted.

I forgot a thing; Daniel is a dim witted DORK.

ah I am glad Dan won't be typecast as Harry, we are already seeing it, great production companies like Ecosse Film an Oscar, Bafta and Golden Globes awards film production asked Dan to be in this new role of "My Boy Jack" and the legends of theater also want Dan in their theater production, I cannot believe how many TALENTED directors and producers, people who REALLY KNOW ABOUT ACTING AND MOVIES, are looking forward to work with Dan! Good luck Dan and you will have a great future ahead with this great line of work you have so far!

lol! u got me TinaL...I still think Daniel is a bad actor though, and that he only gets these offers because he's cute and he has a lot of fans because of playing Harry Potter...he's as cute, rich and thoroughly untalented as people like Paris hilton. If he wasn't Harry Potter he wouldn't have got so much attention as an actor. I used to be a completely obsessed fan of Daniel for about 2 years but now he's just a picture to me. My fantasies of him kept getting darker and emptier untill I realized he means nothing to me...In addition to being a bad actor. I don't bother that people admire him though, I don't care at all.
