What a generous guy! And Harrys part in the film really was mostly to put the first 5 stories into context, and set-up the viewers for whats coming in the final installment(s). Fun clip! Love the scruffy.

I didnt really connect to this film and if by romance he means R/Hr, fine but H/G? That was baaaaaaad. *awkwardly tying someone elses shoe*

I love that Dan is always making sure to acknowledge the other actors besides himself. He is a sweet and humble guy. I agree about the romantic aspect bringing in more people. Its more appealing to people in general when you bring in the romance to the story.

hmmmm... does he really think tht.... i think tht the romance thing was the quite unnecessary part of the film... instead the plot should have been more darker and horcruxes should have been explained wellll..... at some stage i felt "man wen is the romance goin to end??? wen m goin to see some action...." romance becomes quite boring and without it and also with more action the film would have broken sorcerers stone record...

The Half Blood Prince was my second favorite movie behind the Chamber of Secrets. I know some people said that the Half Blood Prince was too "romantic" or "lovey dovey" but people have to remember how dark the main parts in the movie were/are: Harry learning about Voldemorts past, Malfoy acting strangely, AND the death of Dumbledore. The Half Blood Prince was very diverse and had many different emotions and aspects put into it. In my opinion, it had the best comedy yet the saddest moment of any of the previous films. Thats what made it so good in my view, but I actually enjoyed the movie.

Well, I know for sure that people who hated the film hated it because of those particular scenes. But I know too that non-readers just dont care if it isnt dark enough, they dont care if Dumbledores death wasnt sad enough, and of course they dont care about the cut scenes because what they dont know wont hurt them, right? I guess it was the diversity and the balance of the diverse elements in the movie that caught peoples attention. The fact that it appeals to an incredibly wide range of audiences, in age and in gender, is really something special. Not to mention the stunning visuals and the witty lines and the comedy. I dont agree about the romance. It does help widen the range of audiences, but it alone wasnt the main pull. And I think WB knew that beforehand, seeing they didnt advertise the romance or hint at it in the trailers almost AT ALL. It was either a pleasant surprise or a nasty shock that people experienced sitting there in the theater.

I disagree with Dan. What made HBP memorable to me was its dark moments and everything about the past of Riddle. I saw the romance as a side thing...not that important in the big picture.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-12-07 13:52:00

I found the romance superfluous. In the book it was a small sub-plot, yet in the films it was the dominant force. Much more time should have been spent on the memories and exploration of Voldemort, yet instead this was hacked and slashed at in order to make way for mediocre teenage romance. I am interested to see how they explain the locket and the cup in the next film seeing as they omitted the memory from HBP. No doubt they will have Hermione explaining from a book the markings and it will skip over how Voldemort came to posess them. Personally I thought HBP was the weakest film to date, which is a crying shame as it is my favourite book. Lets just hope that the two Davids dont entirely ruin the last two films.

huummm, not sure if I agree, however, I do like the movie as a whole can not just pick out this or that, just liked it. Roxanne

half blood prince was a multi layered film. there was romance, yes, but it WAS NOT overblown. cant believe people made a big deal out of it. the first half was entertaining, the second half was strong and serious. i loved it.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-12-07 14:36:47

I enjoyed everything about this movie, from the comical to the serious. And woodlandnash, the locket will be explained in DH I with Kreachers Tale. As far as the Hufflepuff Cup goes, the trio will see that when they break into the Lestrange vault in Gringotts in DH II.

woodlandash -- You forgot to mention Steve Kloves. I blame his terrible screen writing/screen adaptations for how bad some aspects of the movies have been. Guess which movie was my favorite? Just guess. Yup, OOTP -- the only one Kloves didnt write the screenplay for! Ugh, I cant stand him. My biggest complaint is that he always downplays Ron, making him into the comic relief. He was barely in HBP, and Hermione has gotten his lines WAY too many times.

@Halfbloodwheezes I disagree. Im a fan of the books and separate the movies from the books. I think many other fans can do that too. I know me for an example could not sit through a long movie like LOTR, so I would never want HP movies to be that long.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-12-07 16:41:39

I thought the romance was slightly overdone but didnt dominate the film, and i dont think it was the main pull, i think that was just because it was Harry Potter! It was great the way that the first half balanced action with humour, romance, and mystery which all built up to Harry getting the memory which was the turning point of the film, and it got suddenly darker and more serious from there. Overall I loved the film, probably the best, although of course i do have some minor complaints.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-12-07 17:09:59

The romance was just like the romance in the books, so I loved it. The pull for me was the fact that I love Harry Potter and I LOVE the books and movies. I just wanted to see the whole thing! It was a brilliant film and I cant wait to buy it tomorrow!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-12-07 18:13:03

I dont agree. Romance isnt a huge part of the plot, but it does definitely add something.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-12-07 18:32:27

No, the romance was what I HATED the most.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-12-07 19:59:20

Ill agree with Phoenixmaster here.. it was a beautifully made film. With H/G they did the best they could, considering previous directors barely utilized her (to be fair, its not like they knew Harryd end up married to her giving innocent children clumsy cumbersome names). The romance was funny, but the only romance that had any draw for me in the series was Severus Snapes love for Lily, so if THATs what drags me to the films, then Im in for a long haul! :P But then, Id be a cradlerobber if I were having palpitations over 16 year old characters snogging. (Theyd lock me away! JK)

When I first read this book, I wondered how it would be filmed, cuz it is a long series of flashbacks, interesting to the reader, but maybe not to the movie goer. they opted for the rom-com and and trivialized the real drama that JKR wrote. Too bad, but perhaps it is the limitation of film that is to blame. This was really a book about Tom Riddle, and given the Hollywood Trio set up in the films, a movie about Riddle couldnt be made.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-12-07 22:24:24

I think this movie had a balance between romance and action. Yes, I myself would have liked more scenes to be action-based, but the films arent the books. And JKR knows that. I guess its just his opinion as to what was the main-pull for audiences, but for me what did it was the more and more darker the films seem to be. Dark is better, IMO, because it represents what Harry Potter is really about. Hopefully movie-goers wont seem to think that HP is a bunch of comedy, and not take in the actual plot of the story. So what satisfies me, as a fan of the books, is to see the films progressing up until Harrys final battle.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-12-07 23:23:16

i liked the romance (well the r/hr romance, really), and do not think it "overpowered" the film, but that being said, there should have been more information about the hallows and voldemorts past that wouldve made it feel more balanced and complete. i agree with those saying that the best thing about this film was the cinematography, which was breath-taking, and the improved acting of almost everyone especially gambon and dan but also emma and tom felton as well. it wasnt a perfect movie, but it had great moments. the best for me was probably the cave when the inferi hand shot out of the water, that was so creepy and dumbledore drinking the potion was perfect.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-12-08 00:32:32

I love how the HP novels/films incoporate some of everything. Theres action, horror, suspense (lots of suspense), comedy, love, sadness, anger, EVERYTHING!! Those books are amazing and the films do a wonderful job of capturing all of those elements. Dan is right. Book 6 is the one with the most HUMOR and ROMANCE! I re-read it before I saw the movie and I laughed so much. I forgot how funny it was because the dark parts are SO dark that you pretty much end up on focusing on that.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-12-08 01:38:34

It didnt please me... and no, not because it wasnt exactly like the book. It was just stupid.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-12-08 09:38:58

ginmo: to each his own. :) My best friend hated OOTP, but I enjoyed it. She liked Chamber of Secrets, I likened it to a frontal lobotamy via corkscrew..

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-12-08 13:12:27

Phoenixmaster: my thoughts exactly, my friend probably has an infestation of some unknown magical creature (ask Luna) to make addle her lovely skull.. our debates are friendly and spirited, believe me! Course our Twilight debates are far more epic..and slightly violent, which is why we promised never to meet in forums, for the sake of our characters. ;)

mmm i think it had to be the trailer..and for me personally im not into the romantic films (im a girl) but i dont mind action movies with a hint of romance like hbp had

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-12-08 18:14:17

I think they managed to keep this from being a chick flick (which is fantastic, because I, like krazykobra, am a girl who does not like chick flicks)
