Hmm...Fan of the year?

Posted by RubyRed23 Dec 13th 2009

Voted.

Posted by SofieMalfoy Dec 13th 2009

This should really be called "Mugglenet's american fan of the year."

Posted by Lupin_Black Dec 13th 2009

Emily wins, 1 girl can't spell, the other is fat.

Posted by iwantorlando05 Dec 14th 2009

I just voted!!! Cool!!

Posted by shadowofnight Dec 14th 2009

Voted. But really...why are they all from the US? Also, does anyone know how I can get rid of the Halloween Theme?:D

Posted by jojoinpink54 Dec 14th 2009

I feel like people can be incredibly huge fans without such an outward display--like for instance, just because you don't have friends who like it does not mean you are not obsessed. I also don't like how it's all girls from the US 16-17 years old. Way to be narrow minded, Mugglenet.

Posted by RubyRed23 Dec 14th 2009

I agree jojoinpink54, and I honestly felt like I read their entries somewhere before in my life... hmm..they sound like something I would say. >.

I voted for Emily. She seemed like she had the biggest connection to Harry Potter and it was really something close to her-not just a big hobby that had gone overboard.

Posted by MissImpertinence Dec 14th 2009

Lupin_Black: you're seriously judging a girl based on her WEIGHT? You disgust me.

Posted by USAhermione Dec 14th 2009

Did a lot of people enter? Because, honestly, it doesn't seem like a lot of people did. And I voted for Emily - Harry Potter seeemed like connection, not obsession. And, plus, she sounds a lot like me.

Posted by plum_cake Dec 14th 2009

I agree with what you said, Miss Impertinence. And best of luck to the one for whom I voted.

Posted by MissImpertinence Dec 14th 2009

I voted for Emily because she's used her fascination with the World of Harry Potter to help others. I just lost my Grandma last week, and she was also a huge Harry Potter fan.. I have to hand it to Emily because she's showing love to so many in need. I did, however, find Sarah entering her little sister in the competition very touching. :) I'm glad for Elizabeth getting to go to England to realize her dream. When I went to England and Scotland seven years ago we went to Alnwick Castle, and it was something I treasure. :)

Posted by bizzygiggles2 Dec 14th 2009

I don't Elizabeth is too obsessed. She was given an amazing opportunity and she took it. How many of you would say no to that?

Posted by MissImpertinence Dec 14th 2009

bizzygiggles2: I agree. So she got something many of us would love? I'd love not to have epilepsy, but I don't say everyone else is "too healthy" because they don't suffer seizures. I'd give a lot to go to New Zealand, but I probably won't travel outside the US ever again because of the cost of my health issues.. I hope that every Harry Potter fan finds it possible to support each other when they receive a wonderful opportunity.

Posted by jojoinpink54 Dec 14th 2009

yeah, i agree i voted for emily because she seemed to really love harry potter, and not be obsessed with showing people that she does or trying to prove something. i consider myself a humongous harry potter fan, but that doesn't mean i'd want my senior pictures taken in england or something (aside from the complete impracticalities). i think it's not about outward gestures but actually having harry potter inside you.

Posted by Gryffindor_Seeker_7 Dec 14th 2009

Well, I voted for Emily because she seemed the most like me, but I also frequently have HP dreams, and I would LOVE to have my senior picture done in England! This year I wore one of my Gryffindor shirts for school pictures, and whenever anyone at my school mentions HP, all eyes turn to me. I am one of those crazy obsessive fans, like Elizabeth, but I also appreciate Emily's connection with all the messages.

I think that it is cool that Natalie's sister nominated her. That shows that she is not self-centered about being Fan of the Year. Plus she is not TOO obsessed, just to have fun with her sister and love Harry Potter.

Posted by bhart Dec 15th 2009

i have harry potter dreams all the time. !!!!!!!!! i voted for emily, not because of that, but i love that other people have harry potter dreams. the best one ever was that i was playing quidditch....

Posted by ParticularlyGoodFinder Dec 15th 2009

what true harry potter fan DOESN'T have Harry Potter dreams? or catch even the most obscure references? I bet a ton of people wrote in saying stuff very similar to Emily's, but Emily was chosen because she wrote it the best. I definately agree that Emily's is the most relateable, but that is why I like Elizabeth's. Because she is NOT like everyone else. She went above and beyond to show her dedication to being a fan. Plus, Emily has already been regognized by the Harry Potter Fandom. She won the Beadle the Bard Essay Contest! While I think its so cool that she met J.K. Rowling, shouldn't someone else have a chance to win a contest?

Posted by elupin17 Dec 15th 2009

Well, actually it was Scholastic recognizing her... every one of the nominees are super fans... but I'm sure they all do the same things like emily, just some of them didn't mention it in their essays... what make each unique is elizabeth showed her true dedication through the pictures, sarah and natalie share their close sisterly bond over harry potter, and emily has used inspiration from harry potter to help others and in her everyday life. that's why each were chosen and they all have a potential at winning. It's for you to decide what one of those reasons you thinks deserves to win, not the generic stuff.

Posted by JoshB Dec 17th 2009

I saw the "MugglenNet American Female Teenager Fan of The Year" contest was open, but what about the other one? I know they're all massive Harry Potter fans, but we can't all go flying off to another continent to take some photos...

Posted by Lyra_Asya Dec 17th 2009

Why on earth are they all identical like that? Kind of silly. Yeah, I don't think that's really fair because seriously you would have to be so rich to be able to just go off to England--and money doesn't really make you the best fan >:(

Posted by MissImpertinence Dec 18th 2009

I think any fan would have gone to England if they could afford it. I can't blame Emily for taking the opportunity. I just consciously keep my envy out of it.
