In October, Variety reported that Dan Radcliffe would be starring in the Broadway musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying". At the time, Dan was the only cast member set for the production.
Today, Broadway World is reporting that Dan participated in a table read of the musical in New York City on Monday. The reporter was very pleased with Dan's performance during the read:
First things first. Daniel Radcliffe was AMAZING. He interpreted the role in a charming, adorable and fresh way. He sang great. I think everyone was there to see if he could do it. And boy, he really did it. He was great. He came off as a full-fledged musical star. Those of us who saw him in Equus know he has the stage chops as a dramatic actor but now I can say that he could easily take Broadway by storm as a musical comedy star, too. After that final Harry Potter movie comes out, this guy can do whatever he wants in any medium. I loved him. And it seems to me that he is the youngest actor to play the role of Finch. And his youth made the show feel fresh and new. It had a new kind of innocence to contrast the cynicism of the world he is in.
We'll keep you updated on any new developments!

I want to see this so bad, whenever it gets to Broadway! It makes me happy that Dan is pursuing more stage theater. Hopefully, well be seeing a lot more of him, even after DH is done...

This will be a nice change of pace for him after all the death and destruction and sadness of Deathly Hallows.

You can hear Daniel sing and watch him dance on you tube by putting in Daniel Radcliffe Gypsy of the Year. It was a Broadway charity event that took place while he was in Equus.

I need to make a few things clear for all of you. Dan was not signed on for a Broadway Production, only a reading. A reading is what this article described as a "table read", which potential investors go to so they can decide if they want to put their money into producing the show. While many readings transfer to Broadway with the same cast, some cast members do drop out and it sometimes never gets professionally produced. A recent example of a celebrity involved in readings who dropped out was Jane Krakowski (who you may know from NBCs 30 Rock). She played the part of Kira in readings of Xanadu, but once the show opened on Broadway, the role was played by Kerry Butler. Her costar in the readings, Cheyenne Jackson (who has recently guest starred on 30 Rock as a new TGS cast member) was not going to be in the Broadway production of Xanadu until the actor who took over his role had a leg injury during rehearsals. So, this means that while it is likely that Dan will be in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying on Broadway in the near future, he could drop out of it, or the show might not even be produced.

Awesome! I hope Dan gets cast in the role. He would be perfect. Hes such a talented actor and he would definitely do it justice. I think its a good sign that the reporter was so Enthralled by Dans performance!

Every high school in America does that show...truly cool for them as learners, but Boring on Broadway!!! Id think hed want to be in something more modern.

IMO, hes getting excellent career advice, as this is an excellent part for a nonsinging actor to play, if youve seen the film before with the original actor who made it famous. Its like Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady with a talking sort of signing style. Sort of like reading poetry to music, only prose perhaps. And he is known for that same type of over-the-top energy for the part as the original actor had. Very similar type persona and thats why it seems like perfect casting if produced, which is now probably a definite with a good read for the investors, as these become more events than theatre on Broadway these days.

@house_of_black: they might put a modern spin on it, but many of the broadway shows these days are set in the past.

Sorry sorry! I have nothing against stuff set in the past. My problem with the play is that it was written about 50 years ago. There are lots of playwrights today who cant get their work staged because backers like to play it safe and finance old favorites. I just thought he was more into todays arts scene and wanting to work with other young artists, especially after doing an old play like Equus he might want to try something new.

Ok, as a fan of broadway musicals, I practically swooned when I read the article. Ive seen a video of Dan singing. Hes good and capable, nothing fantastic. But I am more interested in seeing his take on Finchs character.
