Nikki Finke and The Hollywood Reporter - two very reliable sources in the movie industry - are both reporting Warner Brothers has confirmed its plans to make Deathly Hallows, Part 1 a 3D film.
Word about Warner Brothers considering 3D for most of its 2010 films first surfaced last week. From Nikki Finke:
Additional titles in 2010 that will be released in 3D (in addition to 2D) include Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore (July), Guardians of Ga’Hoole (September), and Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (November) -- and I'm told Part II as well at a later date
Said Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros Pictures, in the announcement, “We are experienced and have been successful in the conversion of 2D to 3D going back to such hits as The Polar Express, select scenes in Superman Returns and the last two Harry Potter films.” Fellman continued, “The results for Clash of the Titans will be presented onscreen with the highest-quality images available today.”
Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros Picture Group, said, “We’re excited about 3D and look forward to bringing a rich, involving visual experience to audiences around the world.”

I havent experienced watching 3D in any theatres but this news makes me more excited for the last two Harry Potter films. Accio November!! ^_^

Bah. As long as you can choose between 3D and 2D. 3D is very overrated, but it has its fun. Id just prefer to see a really clear picture the first time around - 3Ds so blurry. And headache-inducing.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 17:10:49
This sounds fantastic. Also, I really want to go to a premiere for one of the films to see and possibly meet some stars, and they have a premiere in New York, correct?
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 17:11:30
I have always said that I would love to watch the movies in 3D but with this being the last movie, I think it would take away some of the integrity of the work. I hope they do what Avatar did and give the option to watch it in 3D or 2D. Mixed feelings tough.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 17:18:45
Yayayayay! Im pretty sure Im going to "forget" that I have my glasses in my pocket and Im gonna keep them! Im excited to see a 3-D Tom Felton
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 17:29:58
As long as its released in Imax 3D, then Im satisfied. Imax Technology is just amazing, and I thoroughly enjoyed the beauty that was Avatar. I can only imagine how great an experience Deathly Hallows would be in IMAX! XD

WWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! THE FINAL BATTLE IS GOING TO BLOW OUR MINDS....
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 17:41:05
wow so that means we wont just see Daniel Radcliff naked, but Daniel Radcliff naked in 3D! thats exciting.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 17:41:47
The HarryPotterFilm Twitter account has confirmed the film will be available in 2D as well.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 17:47:38
Humph. 2D pleeeeeeeease! :(
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 17:48:08
Yeah I personally find this pointless. I dont recall any part of Deathly Hallows 3-D worthy. Not even the final battle. Nothing. So I definitely wont be watching it in 3-D.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 17:58:05
Oh grow up you guys! If you dont want to see DH in 3d than DONT. Its as simple as that!
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 18:09:19
i think 3D is great, i just hope it doesnt take away from the movie itself! though the final battle will probably be awesome in 3D! idk im on the fence on this one!
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 18:15:38
This is great! This will make the movie a billion times awesomer, I hope! I hope it doesnt focus on 3D too much, though. The last time I saw a 3D movie, it was Spy Kids 3D: Game Over, and the whole movie with the glasses on was kind of dim and dark. I hope 3D has improved since then. I havent seen Avatar, so I dont know. But yeah, I think this is cool. Im going to see it multiple times in 3D and 2D just so I can see which one I like best! COOL! lol.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 18:18:53
But I also think that having it in 3D is kind of being sell-out-ish, because I would think the Harry Potter movies are a bit too sophisticated to have in 3D. Although I am very excited, even more than I was, I really will have to wait until November for my final judgement. I am probably going to see it at midnight on release day in 2D, then in 3D later.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 18:27:25
I am very excited! However, I think this could go either way. Some 3-D movies have been spectacular, such as Avatar, but UP, which was released in 3-D had very dissapointing 3-D quality. I hope that Deathly Hallows will be good! :o
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 18:27:34
I know we will be able to choose between 2D and 3D BUT to me this just kinda seems like a business-money making ploy. I know many of you will enjoy it in 3D and Im not taking shots at any of yall, but to me making it 3D almost takes away some of the "seriousness" and "emotion" from the story. But of course, thats just my opinion.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 18:28:53
I personally dont like 3D movies. The give me wicked migraines.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 18:32:48
Theres this wonderful thing we have in America called choice.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 18:37:51
Does anyone know if youll be able to see it in 2D? I dont think I can sit through like 2 hours of 3D lol
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 18:41:19
The HarryPotterFilm Twitter account has confirmed the film will be available in 2D as well.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 18:49:37
Ill see it in both but i think WB is just jumping on the 3D bandwagon. The only things that would be good in 3D is the spells and special magical effects
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 19:00:34
well of course both movies will be 3D if one is that would be like if halfway through avatar a msessage popped up saying
the 3D portion of this film has ended toake off the glasses
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 19:02:39
Sooo... the whole movie is in 3D? Not just parts of it?
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 19:06:01

I WOULD LoVe to see the battle of hogwarts
in 3D. No offense to yate lovers but I
hope he does not f*** that up with a 5
minute battle with 12 death eaters, 6 order of the phoenix
members and 20 students. Their better be 40-50 death eaters
20 order People. And the Harry vs.voldy part better be good too.
I MAY HAVE HIGH expectations but HEY! this is the LAST FILM.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 19:09:20
I dont know how I feel about it. Ill see it in 2-D first, then try out 3-D. Something about wearing glasses the entire time is annoying, if you ask me.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 19:14:29
And Alexandre desplat is not good for Harry potter
stick to the twilight Frenchman. We fans want John Williams
or a personally liked Nicholas hooper.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 19:14:53
THATS AWESOME!!! Just think how the SEVEN POTTERS scene will look in 3-D!!! I cant wait to see it. Im sure they will release a non-3D version as well for those who dont want to see it that way, but I cant wait!!! The special effects in HP are always so FANTASTIC, so to see them in 3D will be AMAZING!
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 19:16:42
I think we can all agree that they are only reason worth watching it in 3D is because Harry will be naked... or is that just me? o_O
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 19:16:45
@Voldemortjr: Theyve been filming the battle for months now and it was already confirmed by Kloves, Heyman, and Yates that the battle will be between 30 and 45 minutes long.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 19:18:45
What?!? Ughhhh! NO! I hate 3-D. I am not happy. >:(
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 19:28:50
@iwantorlando05 have they told us about the amount of
people in it.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 19:36:35
Is the new 3-D that they developed for Avatar? If so, it will be great quality, but if its the standard type, not really me. I hate wearing 3-D glasses over my real glasses. The different sizes in lenses gets me pretty disoriented! :s Ill probably see it in 2-D
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 19:36:59
@Voldemortjr One of the cast members(I think it was Tom Felton) said in their twitter at one point that there was 200 cast members on set during the filming for the Battle of Hogwarts.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 19:47:29
well Im beat thx for the info nice work mr.yates.I have complete faith
that this film will surpass avatar. BUY 3D TIcKets people and the see 2d about 5x so we can pass up avatar. Yea!
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 20:00:11
At first this really excited me but thinking about the book, its not really the action packed story that warrants 3d. I prefer a clear picture and no headache.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 20:13:28
I like that they are going to offer both 2d and 3d. I would love to see it in 3d but wearing 3d glasses over regular glasses for 2 1/2 hours is not good for the head. :)
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-02 20:42:18
Im reserving judgement on this until the movies come out. Ill probably watch the first part in regular 2D the first time, then 3D later. If it looks cool in 3D, then Ill consider watching the second part in 3D on the release date. As long as theyre releasing it both ways simultaneously, I dont really care what they do.

|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-03 00:42:33
Great news, Ill definitely watch it both ways... Im hovering towards 2D for the first time...... yay I am loving all this news regarding the film :)
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-03 01:33:38
When people say there is a choice between 3d and 2d that is not true in all cases. Where I live, the local cinemas in the past only do one 2D showing (with Avatar) and all of the rest are 3D.. so I imagine the same will happen. I had to see Christmas Carol in 3D when the group I was with wanted to see it in 2D. I dont mind to much, except for that it will be darker because of the glasses
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-03 05:09:32
Ill be seeing it in 2d. This whole 3d craze is getting overblown. Its one thing to see a film that was intended to begin with for 3d but this is just trying to milk extra cash.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-03 05:39:01
I better get a choice between 3d and 2d. Although if my theater only shows it in 3d im still going to go see it
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-03 08:00:25
3D is definitely overrated... I honestly didnt see much of a difference between Avatar 3D and 2D. The only thing the 3D glasses are going to do for the Deathly Hallows is make it harder for us fans to wipe the tears away from our eyes as we cry through the whole of both films... We MUST have the option to see a 2D showing the first time around!
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-03 09:09:41
I will not be watching it in 3D. Maybe the 2nd time. If I do not have a choice between 2D and 3D at any of the showings I will be complaining.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-03 09:22:13
-_- I wont be watching it in 3D. Its like, "Ooooooh, here, look! This isnt really central to the plot line, but doesnt it look cool when Harrys wand and spells come at you like -this-? 8D"
No. No, it doesnt. In fact, it hurts my eyes, and my boyfriend CANNOT see 3D! Its a fact of his biology. And when youre watching a movie in 2D and someones hand goes towards the screen in a weird way where there is obviously supposed to be some 3D, IT RUINS THE 2D EXPERIENCE!!!
I really hope they do not f*ck up the 2D movie goers experiences with gimmicky 3D shite. 3D -was- dead...wtf happened? xP Oh thats right, Titanic 2 happened.

I cant see 3D - it just looks like fuzzy pictures to me - I have some stupid eye problem. As long as I can still see it in 2D Im fine. (Although....Dan in 3D sounds pretty nice....) Maybe the 3D will get some children interested in the movie, then the books. Counting the days........
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-03 10:43:06
Wow!! Harry Potter in 3d! That is sooooo DUMB! Harry Potter should not be a 3D movie! First of all 3D is for little kid movies and stupid action movies not an emotional film like this one. Im really angry as I have been waiting for this movie to come out for ages and huge fannn!! But reallyy??? 3D?
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-03 11:15:53
As with all 3D movies, there will be an option to see it in 2D as well, so no need to be upset.
Im all for it, as long as its as stunningly done as the Avatar movies 3D.

|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-03 14:24:03
I doubt that the last two Potter movies will be in as good of quality 3D as Avatar was/is. Wasnt Avatar specifically filmed to be in 3D?
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-03 16:03:54
this is the most exciting thing I have heard! My day was terrible untill this :)!
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-03 16:35:27
@ActingDude17...Thank you. I swear some people are acting like 3D is going to be the only option. Anyone with any common sense and intelligence will know that it isnt. Anyway, I cant wait to see DH I and DH II in 3D. (I didnt see HBP in 3D because I didnt think it would be worth it.)
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-03 16:57:24
Is stupidity EVERYWHERE these days? For one thing, 3D is not for HP. 2. Its not just for kids movies(how can people still say that after Pixar? stupid) and "mindless action films. Avatar aint mindless. its good. 3. Digital 3D has been around for a few years now. 4. Digital is the new standard, and has NO way of using the sh*tty miscolored glasses that gives you headaches. nor do the new glasses go over your prescription ones. SHOW ACTUAL HUMAN INTELLIGENCE PPL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-03 17:51:36
@plum_cake: It wasnt worth it at all. It was like 10 minutes of 3-D, and that was it. So dumb. But I didnt realize that there would be an option to see DH in 2-D. Phew! That makes me feel better. I do not want to be distracted by having to wear those stupid glasses for 2 and a half hours.
|

sirusly when is mugglecast gonna tal k aobut this
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-03 17:54:55
Nothing wrong with 3D if you dont mind paying extra money, or having to wear annoying glasses, or getting a headache. And yes, they can give you headaches. Not everybody is the same.
|

Does anyone know how to get tickets to the premiere ?
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-04 12:50:09
well i find this news to be good, but nothing out of line positevely or negatively. As for me, im gonna watch both DH in 2d to focus on the movie and not so much on what comes close or not. But dont get me wrong, i happen to like 3d and will also watch both DH in 3d. The reason i like that DH will be released in DH (aside that it might be exciting and greatly done) is becuase i will have another excuse to return to the movies and watch it one more time, and one more time, and once more... as has been posted before, 2d will be available, and its a good option not only for the producers to make more money, but for us to have another alternative to watch it. But, in the end, in most movies 3d is forgettable (except perhaps avatar, and maybe it will be remembered for a short period) and what matters in the end is the movie. So ill watch in 2d, but i like that this is happening. I really cant wait!!
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-04 14:36:35
As for seeing it in 2D, you have to find a place that will show it in 2D.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-05 06:32:33
^which is not hard for most people.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-05 08:21:14
I, for one, thinks this is good news! Whether its 3D or not, it will still be the same movie that youll be seeing in the 2D version. At the very least, it will be a bit of fun for those who enjoy a 3D film, like myself. Its just a bit of fun, and the last time I checked most people enjoy having fun when going to the movie theatre.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-05 19:38:56
Id like to watch it in 2D first. But it would be pretty awesome to watch it in 3D the second time! Itd make me feel like Im actually in it as one of the characters!
