Movieline.com has disclosed a new list of the top grossing actors of 2009. The article notes Dan Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint all individually out-earned actor George Clooney. On Rupert and Emma: "The young actors each took home $30 million for the two-part franchise finale Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." On Dan: "The Potter star made $40 million for Hallows. Has there been a more radically life-changing casting of an unknown? Maybe Al Pacino in The Godfather? Help me understand."

Wow, well we have to consider its two films, but a lot of money nonetheless. but its good theyre investing all this time and money to make the most amazing movie of all time: DH :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-04 12:33:21

lol i love them but seriously why do they need that much? there are a lot of people who wouldve been in these movies for no money at all... *sigh* i dont see why actors deserve so much money while people like teachers who change a lot of lives are barely scraping by.

Thats crazy!

30 and 40 million?!?! Holy Hogwarts! Thats a lot of money! O_O

I hear ya jojoinpink54. My dad has been a fire fighter for the city of Houston for 30 years and he makes less than $100,000. But hes not throwing a football or memorizing lines so what should I expect?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-04 13:52:44

BUT, I am glad to see Emma going to college and continuing her education instead of acting like Paris Hilton.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-04 14:00:58

Hahahahahahahaha Robert and Kristen got so much less.... Hahaha. :P :P Buuut I basically agree w/ all previous commenters. :)

Dang! Now thats a heck of a lot of money. They deserve it. I mean theyve devoted 10 YEARS of their lives to their franchise. Theres so much theyve missed out on, but at the same time its a Once in a lifetime experience. Those three are extremely Lucky and one of the best things about them is that they KNOW how lucky they are and they take full advantage of it. Dan is taking all kinds of classes and hes still getting his education just not from a college. Emma is going to an Ivy League school and is trying a little bit of everything. Rupert is also pursuing his career and trying all kinds of different film roles. These three are really special.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-04 15:09:35

i still dont think that people in movies/sports deserve SO much money, i mean tons of kids their age are going to college, etc. just because they are doesnt make them unique, and i dunno, it seems like ironic that some people can be dirt poor and still do so much while others are sitting on a buttload of money.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-04 15:32:52

what would you do with 40 million?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-04 16:57:48

Hmmm. Rupert should be able to afford another hovercraft, or ice cream truck with that. Definitely not on my list of things to buy. If I did, I dont think I would tell anyone.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-04 17:52:15

Oh, they definitely dont deserve that much money. No actor deserves it. Naturally, the people who work the hardest get the least amount of money. Its unfair, but thats how our world runs. :/

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-04 18:05:36

I have a feeling those numbers are entirely accurate. Theres no way they would be able to find out that information. Its in their contracts, therefore its private. 30 and 40 million is just an estimate. But it makes sense, they wouldnt be able to do the 7th films without those 3 actors.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-04 18:06:25

*are NOT entirely accurate. (sorry)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-04 18:32:48

Mottocat, i laughed when i saw that too. i really dont think any person deserves that much money when people are dying of hunger, but i am glad that rupert & emma made a more even salary with dan this time...i read that in 2007, dan radcliffe got 14 million, where emma and rupert only got 4 million. like they could really do the movies without any of the trio.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-04 18:36:04

jojoinpink54 and TrillianAstra - youre both misguided and naive. They earned that "share" of the franchise for their abilities to portray the trio on the big screen. You guys just dont understand how much money is made from the potter movie franchise and how the actors should be entitled to a comparable fee. Same thing with sports, dont blame the athletes blame the owners. All that money that is made should just go to the owners pockets? No.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-04 18:39:42

I dont think its the actors fault by any stretch of the imagination, of course its not their fault (however, because they have that money, they might as well do something good for the world with it) I dont think the people who are giving them all this money are responsible. I mean they dont even have families they have to provide for! They are talented, but not superior. And that is true for all exorbitantly high-earning professions.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-04 18:43:47

I hope they have very good adviser to put the money in some kind of fund for the old age (LOL :]). Because we see many children in US have problems later in life. And this money they have earn it by there own power, so congratulation to each one of them.

I understand that WB had to increase Emmas pay-package for HBP & DH, after she said that she was having second thoughts about continuing in the franchise post-OotP. And shes got her modelling career as well. So, why pay her so much at all in the first place? Even, Dans become quite high-profile too. I mean, appearing on the Simpsons later this year, and goodness knows how many other offers (Equus was the best decision he mustve made) to come. Dan & Emma (just the two of them) appeared in so many promotional events and interviews for PoA, that you started wondering - has Rupert been completely sidelined? How much money do the two of them make? Well, now we do know how much. Now, what about dear old Rupert? The only person who actually deserves all the money that hes earning. Perhaps, hes earned enough to buy himself that ice-cream truck!! The most grounded of the trio, in my opinion. Hes so low-profile and laid-back. Youll see Dan and Emma making news, giving interviews, and stuff like that, but not Rupert. According to Alfonso Cuaron and David Thewlis, hes THE future star, and the only one amongst the trio, who can make a big mark as an actor post-Potter. I definitely agree with them. And how many promotional events/interviews do you see him appearing in for HP films? The only one amongst the trio who actually becomes his character everytime he comes onto the screen. Hes simply brilliant!!

I agree with a lot of the comments regarding high priced salaries. Whether for actors, athletes, CEO

Sorry my post didnt go through, sorry for the repost. I agree with a lot of the comments regarding high priced salaries. Whether for actors, athletes, CEO

That is a LOT of money

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-05 04:54:09

I wonder how much that winds up being after taxes are taken out.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-05 05:42:04

Wouldnt it be cool if they could create some sort of program from all of the money earned by the films (or at least a large portion of it) such as bringing hope to underprivileged people through harry potter and his message? I mean to me, that would be so amazing and a lot better way to spend this money. NO one person needs a forty million dollar salary. period.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-02-05 06:24:08

I agree they dont deserve so much money, but not everyone can act, let alone spend 10 years almost single-handedly holding up a multi-billion$ franchise. The studio paid them that much simply because theyre the stars and theyre good at what they do. And because WB has a lot of money, and this little thing called Captialism.

Its because we, the west, live in a celebrity obsessed culture. Take that Haiti Telethon that George Clooney set up for example. Dont get me wrong it was great that he did it, but it took celebrities to open our eyes and acknowledge the terrible event that happend. Money is, and will always be, a tool for social control. We live our whole lives needing money, and this keeps us distracted from important events (like stripping our freedoms!). Even though people may have boat loads of money, huge mansions, fancy cars, and over priced cars, they are not better than you and me, and dont you forget it. But unfortunately, we live in a system that has decided that rich ppl are better than all of us.

Thats cool.
