It's been almost two weeks since the Potter community came together with others online to raise money for the relief effort in Haiti. Since then, Helping Haiti Heal has raised close to $97,000 thanks to all of your incredible efforts!
If we get to the $105,000 mark, Partners in Health will name the three full cargo planes we funded after Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
This morning J.K. Rowling has passed along a message, specifically to all of you:
To everyone who has helped raise such an incredible amount for the earthquake survivors in Haiti: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
Like many others, I made a personal donation to the DEC shortly after the earthquake happened; but never did I expect such an amazing response from all of you. You cannot imagine how awed, moved and humbled I am to know that planes named Harry, Ron and Hermione are going to be flying off to help. I did not need this to remind me how extraordinary Harry’s fans are, but you keep giving me proofs. THANK YOU! - Jo
Remember, that you can still donate right here with a chance to win some great prizes!

I would say And this is all down to you Jo- but then Im losing a bit of faith in humanity, Im sure most of the people who donated would of done it anyway- but Ill certainly say that Jo, and you guys at Mugglenet- have done an amazing job at creating a community that rallies together in times of need. Really great job, everyone- just like Lee Jordan said, Keep the faith xx

Thats amazing!!! I love it and it seems so appropriate some how since Ron, Harry, and Hermione come to the rescue in the wizarding world as well. Im really proud to call myself a Harry Potter fan. I missed the two live podcasts that were hosted because of class and work, but I did donate twice! God Bless, Haiti.

I think that the popularity of Harry Potter in the millennial generation has a lot to do with all of those promising trends, which indicate a grater interest and commitment to community than was expressed in either generations x or y. That is to say that if Harry Potter fans are extraordinary; Ms. Rowelling has something to do with that: not only do the books provide characters who are incredibly good moral role models, they also provide a common mythic language for discussing issues of good and evil, for millennials of all religious and cultural backgrounds. They are an incredible gift! I have much more faith in my generation, because of efforts not only sponsored by Ms. Rowling, like this one, but non official advocacy and public service groups based on Harry Potter moral language; and even how Harry Potter moral language is used in every day conversations. I admire Ms. Rowling a great deal for taking advantage of Harry Potter moral language in the right way, by continually leading efforts which translate Harry Potter ethics into real action!
