It has been a while since LEGO last produced Harry Potter construction sets based on the films. Their contract with WB had expired a couple years ago. But there's great news for fans of LEGO Harry Potter products today. A press release was just issued announcing six new LEGO Harry Potter construction sets and a LEGO Harry Potter board game:

Based on the compelling stories and characters of the Harry Potter films, the new line includes six construction sets derived from iconic scenes and locations, including the Hogwarts Castle, Hagrid’s Hut, Hogwarts Express and Quidditch Match and leveraging building surprises of previously released LEGO Harry Potter sets, some of which ranked among all-time LEGO best-sellers. Available in October, the sets feature new and newly decorated minifigures, like Bellatrix Lestrange and Luna Lovegood. Additionally, as the LEGO brand rolls into the board game category for the first time in 2010, it brings the Harry Potter property with it in a premium, constructible board game called Hogwarts, launching in August. Players build and then move throughout the iconic castle to be the first to collect various objects to win the game – but even the most skilled players can be foiled by an ability to move classrooms around the board.
While more details are still scarce, today MuggleNet reader Marie sent in a video demonstration of the LEGO Harry Potter board game. Viewable here on YouTube, the demonstration is in German but it gives you a good visual idea of what's to come! And don't forget about that LEGO Harry Potter video game to be released in May!

lego hp board game? weird... i have a couple of the sets from when sorcerers stone was the new line of lego sets... i have the sorting hat set, the winged keys challenge, fluffy challenge, the chess challenge, snapes office, and the final challenge with quirrel/voldemort.... i think the chess and winged keys challenge was one set though.... my friend had hagrids hut, that one was particularly cool... always wanted the big castle... but it was very expensive... like a hundred bucks at least... ah, memories...

I was excited when I read this news, but when I saw the video, it felt kinda lame. I understand German, so it is important for each player (house) to get books from all 4 classrooms and the only obstacle is the possibility of the set moving around. I think it gets boring quite quickly, so I wont buy this, Ill wait for a better board game. :P

I saw the board game on TheBrothersBrick a few days ago, but I didnt realize what it was - there was just a picture. Strange little thing - I think Ill skip it, unless its got some cool pieces in it. Im really excited that theres gonna be six new sets, and with Luna Lovegood (finally, a Ravenclaw student!) and Bellatrix minifigures! And a better Quidditch set would be nice - the one from "Chamber" was pretty poor. I guess Im gonna need more shelves. :D

OMG I am so excited! I have every single Harry Potter LEGO set except for the motorized Hogwarts Express. I just hope one of the new sets isnt a new castle. There are already 3 different LEGO castles; we dont need another and there are so many wonderful things we could have instead. I will totally be buying the game as well. It looks simple and cute, but my local Harry Potter meetup group has game nights and it would be fun to play with some fellow Harry Potter fans! Cant wait for the new minifigs too. Yay! This news is SO EXCITING! Now I just need to not splurge too much at Infinitus so I can afford the sets.

Awesome! I cant wait to see new LEGO sets! Ive been wanting some of the sets, but havent wanted to pay the outrageous prices on eBay. Ill be sure to buy every set they put out! I hope theres a good variety of mini figures with it! The board game looks weird in the video, but if the game looks good in the end, Ill likely get that too. And Im super excited for the video game! Ive decided to get a PS3, and plan to get a copy for that system, rather than Wii! Im so excited for it, itll be so fun!

Definitely awesome, though the only "news" to this (as far as Im concerned anyways), is the final confirmation of the new sets, and the confirmation that Bellatrix and Luna will be made as minifigures. Shouldnt be too long and well finally see some pictures of them. The board game sounds fun, so Ill most likely get it, and Im already planning on getting the video game for my PS2. Between this and Transformers, Toy Fair should be a fun, nice, and suspenseful event for me, lol.

I think they should have put Neville in also (even though I have him in PoA Lupins Classroom) This is really good but I think some of the sets are based on the game not the film. I will be getting years 1-4 and the board game as I already like the lego games. I really hope that they will make some DH lego, maybe The Silver Doe, Malfoy Manor, Shell Cottage, and The Battle of Hogwarts. Does anybody know if they will?

I don't know who Maxime thinks she's kidding. If Hagrid's half-giant, she definately is. Big bones... the only thing that's got bigger bones than her is a dinosaur.
