Emma Thompson, who plays Professor Trelawney in the Potter films, was on the set of Deathly Hallows recently, said Clemence Poesy in an interview with Tatler Magazine. But in Paris, she adds, 'the French are too snob' to admit to recognising anyone. 'And I'm proud of that!' So proud that when Emma Thompson -- a heroine of hers -- was in make-up for Harry Potter the other day and she felt a goosepimply 'Aaaah!', she 'didn't say anything. Because I'm French! I won't admit it!' Thompson had said before that she would not reprise her role in the final installments of the series. Are you looking forward to seeing Trelawney in the final film? Thanks to Keith!

Sweet 2nd soo they must be fiilming aimed major battle scenes COMe TO tHINk of it there was not much of a battle in the book just Harry and the two going around hearing crashes And feeling quakes

Glad her schedule allowed her to take part in the last movie afterall. I am in Orlando now, and yesterday was at Universal. The Hogwarts skyline is impressive to say the least at sunset!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 17:29:32

I assume well only see shots of her in the Battle o Hogwarts. She plays no real part in book seven, but itll be nice to see her as part of the fight against Voldy and his Death Eaters! =)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 17:32:37

Im sure the original decision of not returning was weighing on her conscience. After all, it would be nice to give her character a sense of closure, even if she is only shown for a few minutes or seconds in the last film. This is actually really great news. It will be really nice to see most of the original faculty prepared to take necessary measures to stand up and fight.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 17:43:56

this is great news! in the book i believe we see her throwing her crystal **** down on death eaters heads which would bring some great comic relief to the battle. also, even though she doesnt play an important role, i feel its important for us to say goodbye to all the characters weve come to know over these the course of these films. this really made my day!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 18:00:06

Voldemortjr, could you stop bashing the Battle of Hogwarts in your comments :P its gonna be awesome, just like the book.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 18:26:15

I think its great news. I love her as an actor. Her character is great too so I think itll be nice to see her in the final movie. I think its important that most of the characters are in the final movie because the battle is such a big moment it only makes sense.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 18:26:51

ARE YOU SURE?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 18:38:53

I really hope shes back!! Ive been hearing rumors that Nicolette Sheridan was going to take over the role, but no one can play Trelawney except Emma. Plus she would be the only actor not returning. I hope this is true!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 19:31:44

iM GONA KEEP BAShIN TILL I sEE It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 20:13:00

I think this is great! Even though the only thing I remember Trelawney doing in the Battle of Hogwarts is throwing crystal **** at Death Eaters, I think itll be cool to have Emma Thompson back in the movies.... After all, we havent seen her since Order of the Phoenix. I really hope this is true!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 20:14:15

Odd... Well, I think you understand what the **** was supposed to say, I dont think itll let me put that...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 20:15:31

OMG, im so glad shes coming back. i really hope they keep her scene the same where she levitates the crystal ball to drop on greybacks head when he tries to attack lavender.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 20:35:20

I am very glad she is coming back. She plays a small but extremely important part in DH. Even if they dont include that it will be amazing to watch the battle and see almost every character weve met throughout the movies.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 21:41:47

Well, Ill be glad if she does it. Considering shes got a small role, she should be able to do the parts pretty quickly. Itd be nice if she played it, but Im sure if she actually isnt, they could do without it, since she doesnt play a real big role in the last part.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 21:45:03

I HOPE EMMA THOMPSON IS COMING BACK!!!! she was the absolute best part about the 3rd movie. she is AWESOME. a perfect, perfect trelawney.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 22:33:59

I was pretty upset that she opted out of HP6 in order to further pursue her own project, Nanny McPhee. The Harry Potter films arent going to be around forever. She could have done Nanny McPhee AFTER the films were over. Oh well, I still love Emma Thompson.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 22:34:54

I really hope this is true. Trelawney is an essential part of seven, and nobody can play her like Emma Thompson. The reason she wasnt going to do it was because of Nanny McPhee, but thats done filming now from what I know...so I feel like this is true. ::fingers crossed::

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 23:01:02

I never understood why she was against doing Deathly Hallows in the first place. the the amount of time shes in the book she could film her part in probably a day, 2 days at most.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-20 23:31:28

Oh my yes!! I want to see Professor Trelawney take out a few Death Eaters with her crystal viewing devices. I mean, they must be good for something!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 02:43:20

It will be good to see some crystal **** aimed to their heads. I will like to see Emma Thomson.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 04:49:17

Yey good news :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 06:13:46

Voldemortjr: You clearly didnt read the book. That battle was unbelieveably epic. There were battles everywhere, characters dying left and right, LOTS of emotion, explosions, creativity, giants, acromantulas, dementors, thestrals, and centaurs coming from every direction. What more could you ask for? That battle was amazing. I cant wait to see it on the big screen. Emma Thompson probably thought she would have a larger role in the 7th film, so she declined. But her role is so small that it would be crazy for her not to appear in the film.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 06:46:09

if she actually DOES come back for a character reprive... shell be redeeming herself in my eyes somewhat...Nanny McPhee Sequal better than Harry Potter? pish...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 07:36:38

I was thinking about this last night- and now today I read the news. Like most, Im glad shes back. But I really respected her for turning down the last two HP films- like her I feel that WB really commercialized the films too much. I really feel that theyre just too interested in the money- sure there are pluses to that; no doubt some people ended up seeing the real magic of Jos books, but overall, I do question whether the films were at all a good idea. I wish Jo had kept more overall control from the beginning.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 07:40:58

Im really excited to see her back for DH; the Battle of Hogwarts just wouldnt be complete without her throwing crystal **** at Death Eaters!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 08:12:31

The reason she didnt want to come back is because she wrote the Nanny Mcfee story and felt like since she wrote it, it was more important. I remember her also saying that she was annoyed she didnt get to be in HP6, where her character had a bigger role and then just to call her up for the 7th when she didnt have that much of a role was disappointing to her. I guess she saw the 6th movie and saw that it worked out without her character.

Happy birthday!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 08:39:53

This is really good news, I hope to see EVERYONE back for the final Harry Potter movies I want to see EVERY CHARACTER back, both dead and alive just like in the book. Deathly Hallows is going to be great, beyond awesome, especialy in IMAX 3D.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 08:54:40

@iheartseverussnape Today (21 March 2010) is Gary Oldmans birthday, but there is a separate article which says,"Happy Birthday, Gary Oldman", so you can send in your best wishes to him...oh well, birthday messages are sweet in any case :D Its interesting that your username is iheartseverussnape, and youre sending a bday message for the actor who portrays one of Snapes biggest school bullies...Emma Thompsons coming back??? Id love to see her as Trelawney, but unless she confirms this bit of news herself, Ill have to wait and watch...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 09:04:28

Professor Trelawney could be in more than the crystal spherical objects throwing scene. There are those on the cosforums who think that she could be in a scene where she is relating the prophecy to Dumbledore and Snape is overhearing it.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 09:23:05

So basically, the only characters that arent coming back are Colin Creevey, Oliver Wood, and Crabbe. And others that arent as integral. Shame. I do love me some Oliver Wood. But nothing will ruin either of these movies for me :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 09:28:38

Please Mugglenet, stop censoring b-a-l-l-s when refering to the crystal "spherical objects" (as plum_cake put it), haha.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 09:38:42

Emma Thompson is an extraordinary actress, and Harry Potter was lucky to have her. If she reprises the role, I am certain that she would astound us as she has in the past. Plus, shes hilarious and kicks butt. :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 10:15:48

I do hope she really is going to be in DH!! I cant wait to see her throwing her crystal **** at the Death Eaters! (Im going to laugh if that gets censored!) I always wondered why she didnt just shoot spells at them from up there though. Seems a tad more practical, but at least theres some comic relief the way she does it. =)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 10:39:05

This is not confirmed yet, but if she does come back, itd be great. Emma Thompson is a great actress, one more of the ammount of pros that work in the hp films. Her role as trelawney has been awesome. If she does come back, even tho itd be a minor role (maybe they could include her part with the prophecy that was in HBp, but i dont know) it woul be really cool. If not, well its her decission; her loss ;) And luke, how do you expect the hp movies no to be about money, if its been the most succesful series of all time. So maybe theyre commercial, but they have always characterised in being quality and good films, liked by critics, and my favourite movies of all. Theyre so succesful because the fame of the books, but also because theyre good. Not unlike twilight or transformers, who only make money by hiring megan fox or making robert pattinson shine. This are awesome and well-done films, so i disagree. ;)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 10:56:13

Sanmarpotter, if Clemence Poesy said she was in a make-up session at the studios then she has to be in DH, so its pretty much confirmed right?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 11:11:24

I noticed that in the Clemence Poesy article and thought it might be a mistake...now Im so glad to hear it may very well be true!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 11:22:05

I really hope this is true, because I was angry when she decided not to come back when it was announced over a year ago. She said she would be too busy filming the sequel to Nanny McPhee, so she couldnt return. Maybe she realized she had extra time on her hands...dunno. Anyway, Im really glad that shes back.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 11:50:51

It would be awesome if she is actuallt coming back for DH. Not only do we have a moment of many of the characters, but emma thompson is an extraordinary actress. I was kind of mad with her when she said she wouldnt be coming back for DH because she was being underused or something, but im glad she changed her mind. Maybe we will see her in sth more than the battle (the princes tale, perhaps?) :) Now that could work

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 11:51:30

Her new Nanny McPhee movie has three other HP actors in it so maybe they helped to persuade her to come back : )

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 12:08:45

I would love to see a younger Syb giving the prophecy to DD with Snape at the door. (flashback/pensieve)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 12:13:58

woops, ment to post that under the other article... lol!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 12:19:39

sweet!:D

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 15:10:24

crystal **** are going to be thrown by Trelawney!!! haha, lets see if its censored lol

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 15:41:22

YES!! shes the BEST! and that scene, too!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 18:02:05

Like everyone said; even though Trewlaney is only in the book for like a page... it would be cool to see her bashing death eaters with her crystal ball collection... also every character needs to be needs, not just disappear into nothing after a book. So people arent all like "what the hell happened to the lady with glasses" specially for those who are fans of the flicks, but dont read the books... like my best friend who could not pass the first chapter of book one, but loves the movies, and has gone to every midnight release for the last four movies. Hes always asking me questions about things that made no sense in the movie, because they seem to be starting to make them for the fans of the novels and not the other fans who are left with half facts and wondering why all the sudden Ginny and Harry were in love.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-21 23:48:39

glad to hear some DH news.. like news NEWS. hope she does come back.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-22 09:06:23

YAY!! *chants* Crystal ****.. crystal ****.. crystal ****..crystal ****!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-22 12:12:09

sanmarpotter, I could not agree with you more. Harry Potter is actually proof that great literature can be translated well onscreen (I cannot say the same for the Twilight series). Weasleytwin, I dont think you have any need to worry; Clemence Poesy is confirmed to be in these films. In fact, if you see the Deathly Hallows footage that came with the Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray of HBP, youll see a two second clip of Clemence as Fleur dancing with Bill at their wedding; so yes, I believe she is a guarantee. As for Emma Thompson--once again--if she is confirmed as being a part of this production, then I am really grateful, because she was, after all, one of the major staff members in these films, and it will be nice to see her (even if just for a second) kicking some serious butt during the battle.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-22 12:23:37

Also, snoopgonewilder, I couldnt agree with you more. It seems Yates is dissecting book by book as he goes along. I will say, though, David Yates had a lot on his plate when he first took on the series, because he had to provide transitions between films that other directors may have failed to introduce. For example, Ginny Weasley was a small role in GOF. If they had begun showing Ginny glaring at Harry since then, continued it through OOTP (as Yates did); then audiences would have already expected a romantic connection to occur once HBP was released. Since Yates had to be the one to introduce this crush, no matter how subtle, he had to continue it through to the plot of HBP, even if it did seem too sudden. The same thing goes for Siriuss death: if Sirius would have been shown more in GOF, then a stronger bond would have seemed to exist between him and Harry. Therefore, when he died, we would have felt more remorse, since we knew how much Sirius meant to Harry. Filmmaking all comes down to choices; but, then again, we cannot completely blame these filmmakers. After all, the series began before the series could be completed; so some things may have been overlooked. If these films would have been made right after the last book was released, then the screenwriters and directors would have known which relationships had to be introduced and developed throughout the progression of the films.

SNOOPY: I agree and disagree with you at the same time. I will say that yates is making films to please fans (and still some dont like him) but also in a very artistic way during the progress. I understand little things that some non-readers might not understand because of the lenght of the books that has to be translated into film, but it is partly because it will be explained in the later things (the general plot, not the subplot). But on the other hand, non-readers have loved yates films and that can be seen in how the box office has done with both his films. Perhaps they dont even know his name but they like the movie, and understand the esential. And if they dont there will always be a fan toexplain them or the amazing book for them to read :)....................... ...................... kapuffy: You are absolutely right about all :D

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-03-23 16:22:26

OMG IM SOOOOOOO EXCITED EMMA THOMPSON IS COMING BACK!!!!!!! SHE IN MY TOP TEN FAVE ACTRESSES IN HP!!!!!!!!!! I WAS NAMED AFTER HER TOO!!!!!!!!! Im hoping in the movie shes going to go to drop crystal **** on the Death Eaters.... :)
