Happy birthday to Gary!
We put my cat to sleep last week, and his name was Sirius Black. He was a black cat that strangely looked like a dog. I called my mother Bellatrix when she said she was putting him down. Naturally, she didnt understand.

Happy birthday to one of the greatest character actors ever. In fact, youre so bloody good (in Ron words!) at disguising yourself into your characters that when I saw you as Sirius Black the very first time (in flesh and blood, in the Shrieking Shack scene in PoA), it never occurred to me that this is the same actor who portrayed Dracula, Lee Harvey Oswald, Sid Vicious, Beethoven, Ivan Korshunov, Richard Crosby (in Friends, for which Gary received an Emmy nomination), and a variety of other characters. (I couldnt believe that the actor who portrayed Lt. Jim Gordon in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight was in fact yourself!!). Also, you are one of those few actors who have worked with the best of the best in the US film industry as well as the British film industry. The fact that youve never (thats right, never) been nominated for an Oscar, only shows that youre too good for the Academy.

@wazlibsgirl Why do you have to state negative comments while wishing someone on their birthday, of all days? You have the remaining 364 days of the year to whinge and moan and complain about the fact that Sirius Blacks physical appearance in the films was not matching with his physical appearance in the books (but not on Gary Oldmans birthday). There is a world of difference between the physical appearance of a particular HP character on screen and the portrayal of that character by a particular actor. Are you saying that Gary Oldman was badly cast as Sirius Black, just because Sirius physical appearance in the book did not match with his physical appearance on-screen? A characters physical appearance in the movies has nothing to do in relation to the portrayal of the character by a particular actor. Remus Lupins physical appearance in the films did not match with his physical appearance in the films. But in the films, David Thewlis beautifully brought out the kindness, gentleness, and the emotional support (practically family) that he was turned out to be for Harry. The relationship between Harry and Lupin, and later between Harry and Sirius was so sweet, loving, and genuine in PoA (as if both of them cared for Harry like their own son), despite the fact that the physical appearances of neither Lupin nor Sirius in the films resemble their physical appearances in the books. Btw, how dare you judge a person by their looks??

It is not a negative comment. When I read Rowlings works of art, Sirius, Remus, and James all looked and ACTED very differently than their movie counterparts. Perhaps you are being a bit too critical as pertaining to my statement. I am not downplaying their skills but rather how they fit the role.
