Grint discusses HBP directors and Movie 5
In a new interview, actor Rupert Grint spoke a little about the fifth Harry Potter movie, saying they have about a month of filming remaining. He also mentioned a Christmas scene with the Weasleys that he enjoyed, and touched on the topic of a director for HBP, noting rumors that Alfonso Cuaron or Chris Columbus may return for the film.

Posted by kryssindor Oct 17th 2006

I can hear the mad debates about Columbus/Cuaron for the next film even as I write! Oh my, this will be a HOT topic.

Posted by lilbunny16 Oct 17th 2006

that's cool. I really hope they don't bring Cuaron back to direct.

Posted by Hannah_at_Hogwarts Oct 17th 2006

I'm just batting a thousand here!! I JUST emailed this story to Mugglenet!!! Well, we shall see if Columbus will be directing one or both of the remaining films....

Posted by Arthur_Weasley Oct 17th 2006

I can't wait for the films.

Posted by amandarose Oct 17th 2006

I vote for Chris!!

Posted by JeNaN Oct 17th 2006

i hope.. alfonso doesnt come back.. he did a good job, the 3rd movie is an awesome film.. but it suckd, he took out so much n put in stuff that wasnt in the book.. i liked the first two films, they were real good and it stayd w/ the story line in sumways i liek the fourth movie.. i hope the fifth movie is awesome n at least 3hrs long. this book is big n it has a lot of explaining to do. hopefully they dont srew it up huh

Posted by harrys_wand Oct 17th 2006

TOP 10!!! anyhow... those this mean x-mass will be at the borrow NOT grimmlaud place. if so i will hate the director!! hope the director for hbp is Columbus (does 'e 'ave hany relation to the explorer;))

Posted by AGUADALUPITA Oct 17th 2006

I don't want Cuaron.

Posted by Naush Oct 17th 2006

Chris Columbus, please!

Posted by haydeedoll Oct 17th 2006

Columbus is a hack...Alfonso is brilliant. I also love Joss Whedon for it!!

Posted by metsburg Oct 17th 2006

CUARON CUARON CUARON CUARON CUARON!!!!!!! I want him to return for HBP.

Posted by hplovah Oct 17th 2006

i would rather have columbus, but thats just me...

Posted by AGUADALUPITA Oct 17th 2006

I don't want Cuaron...

Posted by GinnyInTheStars Oct 17th 2006

oh horray something to watch when I get home. I don't want Cuaron to direct anymore HP movies he had his go and it sucked! He'd prob cut out whatever happens to Voldemort and just make some watered down reference to it or something like he did for 3.

Posted by lovelymissphoebe Oct 17th 2006

Chris may come back?!?!?! AHH!! Just like Christmas coming early!!! I adored his work in the first two - They are my favorites (CoS being my all-time fav *sigh* Gilderoy ;-D ) I love the Weasleys in the movies... They picked good characters for all of them I think - I hope the Christmas scene is a good one!

Posted by Ionut Oct 17th 2006

GOD PLS NOT CHRIS COLUMBUS HE FU#@ED UP THE FIRST 2 HP MOVIES ... ALFONSO WOULD BE GREAT FOR 6

Posted by evilbutsexy Oct 17th 2006

Oh my god...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET IT BE CHRIS COLUMBUS.....ALFONSO will ruin it...people will walk out CONFUSED. And HBP is a MUCH bigger book with more info in it than POA. Come on, Chris raked in bigger bucks than Alfonso. Realistically, they would pick Chris based off money. I would at least, and I'm pretty sure 100/200 million $$ makes a difference to the WB. Come on, capitalism!

Posted by Tony_the_Terrible Oct 17th 2006

I am not complaining, but I wonder why it is taking Mugglenet so long to post these stories. The two they posted over the last couple of hours have been on TLC for 6-8 hours. C'mon guys, get on the ball, don't let Leaky beat you. I still like Mugglenet better :P

Posted by Jo_H Oct 17th 2006

Urgh! I hope its not Chris Columbus! He kept to the story line, yes, but the film was BORING. The films aren't meant to be scripts of the books put into film, as we've seen with PS and COS it DOESN'T work!

Posted by TheDarkShape Oct 17th 2006

Well, that's quite a contrast in directors, isn't it? Would Columbus come back, though? He produced Prisoner of Azkaban, but he wasn't at all involved in Goblet of Fire or Order of the Phoenix. Rumor had it he was frustrated with the producers and Warner Bros.

Posted by KikiPotter Oct 17th 2006

PLEASE COLUMBUS OR ALFONSO PLEASE COME BACK THEY ARE RUINING THEM PLE-E-ASE COME BACK!!!!!!!!!!! I MEAN THEY TOOK OUT DOBBY!!!!

Posted by AnyaMarcos Oct 17th 2006

It's all just rumors, people. I'd personaly have no complaints if Yates did the rest of the films.

Posted by Nusayba Oct 17th 2006

PLEASE let it be Chris! The audience will actually leave the theater understanding what happened! I think he would be great to fill in the plot holes left by other directors. He is perfect to set the stage for movie 7, just like what he did with the first two. Oooh, I really hope it is him.

Posted by MuggleTowne Oct 17th 2006

he is just so cute...anyway, sounds like everything is coming along. you can tell though that he wasnt given a list of questions before their session started because there was a lot of "um...yeah" going on, but he did an overall good job...yay! one more month left of filming....does that mean that they are going to start HBP immediately after OoTP???? food for thought huh?! yay Ü

Posted by MadelineSofia Oct 17th 2006

Oh please NO Columbus! Eww! He is just another talentless and mediocre director in hollywood. Even critics would agree! He made the worst HP films....he is just going to make a safe kiddie version of HBP....why in the world would anyone want that?! And Ralph Fiennes has critisized him as well! Columbus, who wrote the screenplay for Christmas with the Kranks and directed the home alone films?! LOL! please... I prefer Cuaron (PoA is my fave HP film)...but it doesn't even have to be him either...just please no Columbus!

Posted by Phoenix_Valor Oct 17th 2006

Oh, no not Columbus! He turned the first two movies into a stupid kids film. He's not a very good director at all. Everyone that says he completely missed the point of the first two books is absolutely right. I might like Cauron coming back though. He brought a very artistic quality to POA. It was weird at times yes, but I still think he's a good director, and I'd like him over Columbus any day.

Posted by hp323232 Oct 17th 2006

hmm... cul!!!! top 20????

Posted by c_pal_13 Oct 17th 2006

I am glad to hear they only have about a month left of filming! I can't wait for this movie. I hope that they do bring back Alfonso for HBP as he did POA very well. Even though he added some things it did get the story, I think that Chris will make HBP too kiddie as suggested by others. The first two films didn't capture the scary/adult mood I got from the books at all. As for the person who thinks xmas will be at the burrow- it soesn't say that it just says he spent it with family and that is how it happened in the book! Don't worry just yet!

Posted by Lindso Oct 17th 2006

From a Harry Potter Fan's perceptive, I'd want Columbus. But from a Movie Fanatic's perceptive, I'd rather have Cuaron... Movie three seemed more... deep or something. I'm just sore that he left out the MWPP background. It makes sense to bring Columbus back so he can sort of finish what he started... like wrap everything up according to the books. But remember, these are only rumors!

Posted by Phoenix_Valor Oct 17th 2006

Oh, I forgot to mention that Columbus would probably sugercoat HBP for kids and completely ignor the intended emotion at the end. Cauron however, would keep the feel and emotion, and the dark quality from the book alive on screen. Cauron's HBP would be an emmotional artistic flim with a drop or two of horror, whereas Columbus's would either be a boring scripted version of the book, or a glossed over kids flic.

Posted by focusf1 Oct 17th 2006

YAY BRING BACK CHRIS !

Posted by HPfanatic71 Oct 17th 2006

Dude/Dudette!! The first two movies were for kids!. Harry was 11 years old in in that movie for crying out loud. The movies have only gotten scarier over the years as Harry matures. So of course the 6th and 7th movie are probably going to be very scary. Probably at least pg13 scary. It'll be fun to see how they're rated. Even the 5th. It'll probably be pg 13 Im sure. I'm always a fan of movies made from novels that stay true to the book no matter what.

Posted by MuggleChick04 Oct 17th 2006

I LIKE CHRIS MORE!!

Posted by TseNikki Oct 17th 2006

I hope it is Chris really...guys, if you worry about how childish the first two films were, well i am sure he's not going to do the same for HPB^^ good only one month left:D can't wait for that film!!!

Posted by TheDarkShape Oct 17th 2006

Y'know, for everybody who praises Columbus' films and hates Cuaron because he left out the Maurauder's explanation... who exactly sent Harry the invisibility cloak again? ;-) I've said it on IMDb, I'll say it here. I want a good movie more than I want a good adaptation.

Posted by JulieT Oct 17th 2006

when i first saw PoA in theaters, i hated it... it was too different from the books, it wasn't at all like the first two movies. But now when I go back and watch the movies, I find myself enjoying the third one the best, between chris and cuaron. the first two were so boring- he didn't add any of his personal style to it. or maybe he HAS no personal style, idk... but I think that cuaron would do something really great with HBP- it's the darkest of the six books, and looking at PoA and the direction he went with it, that seems to be what he does best.

Posted by Nosferatu Oct 17th 2006

Please, Chris Columbus, come back! You are worth 12 of those idiots that made the third and fourth movies...

Posted by wumples Oct 17th 2006

I HOPE COLUMBUS RETURNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didnt like Alfonso!

Posted by Mrs_Finnegan Oct 17th 2006

Hmm...I dont care who directs as long as its a great movie.

Posted by upsest336 Oct 17th 2006

CHRIS COME BACK!!! We NEED him to come back, the director for the 4th film was fantastic and Alfonso was okay, but Chirs Columbus beats them both!!

Posted by hpwiz812 Oct 17th 2006

between chris and alfonso...i pick alfonso... even though i remember coming out of the third movie pissed...but now i think the movie is great and at least (and im ashamed to say this) the 3rd wasnt boring...the first 2 it came to a point where you were bored... the main point is to make a GREAT FREAKING MOVIE THAT WE WILL LIKE AND STAY TRUE TO THE BOOK!!!!

Posted by pigwidgeon Oct 17th 2006

no! i dont want either of those directors back. i mean, alfonso was pretty good, but i will never forgive them for butchering the 3rd book so much! it would be cool to have mike newell back if anyone. but i agree with hpwiz812 that they need to be exciting whilst still keeping with the books.

Posted by inny_cent Oct 17th 2006

The movies are for entertainment. Are you going to be entertained if the movies are plain, boring and have a script that is extremely faithful to the book? I think not. I go to see movies because they're entertaining. Why on earth would you complain about Alfonso leaving out the bit about the Marauders? SEE THE MOVIE IN YOUR HEAD WHILE YOU'RE READING THE BOOK- it's called imagination. The books are better anyway. Let the movie makers do what they want. We're just here to watch the movie, not complain about what's missing from it because last time I checked, I don't refer to the MOVIE if I have a theory or what-not, I go to the book. So really, it doesn't matter.

Posted by FasirisFay Oct 17th 2006

Awww! I love Rupert! He's my fav out of the three, honestly! he's so real and unlike the two, he doesn't have an inflated head. Except, he's not such a great speaker. Chris!!!!! Omg, I HATED alfonso. He was awful! Christopher come back!!!!!

Posted by KTbell Oct 17th 2006

PLEASE O PLEASE NOT CHRIS COLUMBUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!he screwed up the first two movies the third one was the best with alfonso. VOTE FOR ALFONSO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

Posted by indiansummersky Oct 17th 2006

I'd ♥ Alfonso Cuaron back for film six.

Posted by jackson50 Oct 17th 2006

I have enjoyed all Potter Flicks, my favorite is POA, Cuaron is one of the most talented directors out there, stop whining about the cuts in POA, how many times do people have to remind you Cuaron did not write the script for the movie, he didn't cut the material, Steve Kloves did so it could fit this media and i think he did a wonderful job. I don't want a literal adaptation of the books i want a visual reference. It's funny how almost everyone that wants Columbus back says bring Tim Burton or Peter Jackson. As much as i love Burton's films, he would NEVER do a Potter flick i guarantee that, it's not his style, he would not like to be tied to the will of so many people and not be able to do his own thing. And don't get me started on Peter Jackson cause if you want a true book to movie adaptation he's not the guy to pull it off, LOTR movies are sooooo different from the books, does that make them bad? of course not, those are great MOVIES, that's the whole point stop whining about the movies not being literal, that's impossible you just better re-read the books. By the way if you ask me i think Guillermo del Toro could make a kickass HBP movie.

Posted by PotterChickFoSho Oct 17th 2006

i want neither of them to come back to be honest. but if i had to pick i'd say chris columbus would do better. it seams like he really loves and cares about the films enough to know where to draw the line with the editing. i uderstand the movies cant be exactly like the books but i think columbus did a good job. though he made it way to fairy tale-ish for my taste.. and as for alfonzo curon he couldnt care less about the fans or the book so forget him.. i'm acually looking forward to the 6th film being a twsited harry pottered horror film. i i really dont think either chris or alfonzo could pull that one off. so i'm looking for some new blood.. i acully think the director for ootp seems to know what he's doing. it sounds like a close enough replica of the book, and i can't wait to see all these 'emotional scenes'..it sounds like he's really stretching dan's acting abilities..and i just can't wait to see how it turns out.
