Yates estimates OOTP running time
Empire magazine's latest edition included a three-page spread on the Order of the Phoenix movie, where director David Yates spoke about the length of the film. "The book's huge, but it actually distills quite easily. That said, I've shot a movie that's probably over three hours, so I'll have to lose 45 minutes in the edit."

Also, Imelda Staunton (Umbridge) has been trying for some time to get involved in the franchise and joked: "Well, actually I was rather insulted they'd never asked."

Finally, producer David Heyman praised Evanna Lynch as Luna: "She's an obsessive Potter fan who'd actually had correspondence with Jo Rowling. When she was cast Jo rang me up because she just couldn't believe it - from her letters she said, 'She is Luna.'"

that freaking sucks. cutting out 45mins. US HARD CORE HP FANS SO THINK EVERY LAST S.E.C.O.N.D IS IMPORTANT. go pens!

WHY do the executives hate long movies??? (since it ain't up to the directors to say how long the movie is). They're all saying that they should get on with the story and not lag. for GoF example, the movie had pratically nothing. they jumped from task to task to yule to task to the graveyard. with a few scenes in between. i think i remember just one scene or 15 minutes between the 2nd task and the 3rd task. GoF was big enough for 2 feature films. I just pray that they won't cut it too short. who knows, maybe they will print a unedited version of HP movies in the later years. 45 minutes of HP we will never see?! That's horrible

Posted by AnimalLover Oct 30th 2006

but we, HP fans love for those movies to be as long as possible. they've seen the success of HP! why don't the executives extend the time and not force the directors to cut so much stuff! Only a few scenes will be on the DVD, but not all. like i said before, executives want to move on and keep to the theme. they said in GoF that they wanted GoF movie to be just about the theme. everything not related to Harry and the whole theme or the 'big picture' will not be included in the film. in this case the theme is about the tri-wizard, yule, voldy and their relationship with harry.

Yay! I thought she was perfect for the roll right when I saw her. She has the hair, the same blue dazed eyes, with a hint of nonsense look about her. She's a Potter fan and has been in contact with JKR! I'm so excited to see her!

You know what would be awesome? That for the 7th movie, they create a 10 hours special movie with not only the main story that happen in the book, but all the details that we don't see in the previous movies. I just think it would be incredible. Image a complete day in a movie theater full of HP fans!!!!! I just can't get enough each time a movie comes out. I hope they won't cut too much.

PPL CHILL!! he jusat said that he made a movie LONGER than three hours!! that doesnt mean automatically that its gonna be 2 hrs and 15 min! u guys just chill, yakes know wut hes doing.... besides, some of that 45 min could be sut out frm the credits, (cmon, no one ever even looks at them!) he might make them shorter AND i think we all felt that probally 1 or 2 things in the books dont EXACTLY have to be mentioned or talked about for 2 pages. he'll probally add everything but just make the less important things a BIT shorter, and well probally end up with a ... let see.... a 2hrs and 45min- 35 min movie! nots not great, i mean im still writing to warner bros. telling them to make a 7 hr long movie but i still didnt get a reply.... but thats preety good. have faith in yakes, he'll be faithful to the book unlike other directors.... *looks at GOF director* but hey..... thats movie buisness for ya!

i cant sighn the petition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!i hella want to!!!!!

Posted by crispyo Oct 31st 2006

So um even if they do cut 45 minutes off, will they include the extra 45 minutes it in the dvd? I hope so.

Posted by Why_Here Oct 31st 2006

I wish people would stop freaking out about this. And this is why: 1. Over Three Hours. He could have three and a half hours filmed. 2. The 45 minutes is not definite, Yates could actually leave alot in. 3. Most of us are older fans, but alot of the target audience is younger children and the casual viewer. Both would not like a 3+ hour movie. Alright, I know, I know, Titanic, Pearl Harbor, Lord of The Rings....but what about King Kong? It was over three hours and it didn't do so well.

Posted by AnimalLover Oct 31st 2006

but if u fight through the disappointment, a 2 and a half hour long movie is still a long movie

Posted by hermione_1127 Oct 31st 2006

Nooo!! Why cut 45 minutes they should leave it that way :'( anyway can somebody tell if Gilderoy Lockhart is going to be in the movie??

Posted by Dancer_1021 Oct 31st 2006

wow thats cool. ya she IS Luna.

Posted by Jesse88 Nov 1st 2006

long movies are great if they're done well!!! There are VERY successful long movies. movies shorter than 2.5 hours suck!!!! keep them around 3 + hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! especially with a book this big and this loved. you CANT shorten it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by IrishPotterDude Nov 1st 2006

GOD! why cant they have it at about 3 hours, why only two?? LOTR was 3 hours long! why not OOTP it needs to be at least 3 they left so much stuff out in The GOF

Posted by harry_p_7 Nov 2nd 2006

omg..... when will people learn..... u guys, it may even BE THREE HOURS LONG!! HE SAID IT WAS more THAN THREE HOURS DIDNT HE? oh welll.. and trust me.. three hour movies arnt always the best.... just imagine a movie like...... happy feet or flushed away being3+ long. i would take that last comment back unless u want to sit in a theater with annoyomg kids for 3 hours long ........... o well......... i DO hope though its three hours.... it would fit sooo perfectly..... oh wel... so, anyonehear anything frm jo lately?lol (-= =D P=

Yeah, it's understandable that they wouldn't want to make the film that long. I am also a lord of the rings fan, and we own the extended editions, so , we'd watch the originals first and buy the extended versions later. But , I feel that as a Harry Potter fan, we always hear the movie is being cut down, always. I know that they include deleted scenes, but , what I don't understand is, why can't they release and extended version like they did for the die hard LOTR fans? It's a lot different watching deleted scenes alone after you watch the movie, compared to having the whole movie with extra pieces thrown in there that you haven't seen. Is that too much to ask?

Posted by imaoldpotterfan Nov 3rd 2006

Why do they have to cut it?? LOTR was over 3 hours long, why do they HAVE to keep the Harry Potter movies shorter? They are ALWAYS cutting them and I don't understand WHY??

Posted by my_ceddyteddy Nov 4th 2006

Howlong isthe movie supposed to be? I'm confused!

Posted by my_ceddyteddy Nov 4th 2006

I mean its the longest book of the series so it deserves AT LEAST three hours! Look at King Kong that movie was more than three hours long and i didn't even really enjoy it. IF KING KONG CAN GET 3+ SO CAN OOTP!
