GOF to become legally available on BitTorrent
The president of Warner Brothers Home Entertainment Group stated: "We've been struggling with peer-to-peer technology and trying to figure out a way to harness the good in all that the technology allows us to do. If we can convert 5, 10 or 15 percent of the illegal downloaders into consumers of our product, that is significant."
BitTorrent software disables the user from copying downloaded files by using two clever mechanisms: a password must be entered to view the file and the file can only be opened on the computer on which it was downloaded.

I don't know why people have to commit piracy. It makes it unfair for those of us that pay for our stuff rather then stealing.
I think that this is a really good idea. This will help a lot!
3rd? yah thats cool
People will find a way around these so called "clever mechanisms."
yooo first first post
Good Idea!!!
ehh, w/e. you can't stop pirates.
As i said, you can't stop it and you won't stop me, but try and you must.
Good idea! Pirating is a bad thing, but I doubt this will really stop it...
hmm nice to know, but id rather buy the dvd :D
Interesting.
that's pretty cool........
Trying to stop piracy..lol. I got the PoA Retail DVD weeks before public release and the Retail GoF DVD weeks before public release too! =D BT rocks...I don't buy DVD's, music, software, books, etc. I download them =) I like spending my money on other things.
Some people are very rude and think this is a very easy way to do money.
What's pirating again? :-\
All Aussies, and everyone else who feels sorry for us because of the ridiculously late Australian release date of OOTP, head staight to: http://www.petitiononline.com/62442/petition.html to sign the petition directed at Warner Bros!! Thanks :-)
Stupid. It's not going to work.
I think it's a smart move for the industry to make, financially, because like the president said, converting even 5 percent is a boost in profit. That being said... I prefer the DVD version. It's easier to tote around with me than carrying my whole laptop and it's easier for viewing with friends than going through the hassle of getting an S-Vi...
Go out and buy the movie.
hmm~`` i think its a good idea that will not work. piracy has byn a problem for companies for a long time... (cuts profits & stuff) but piracy's just too large to be "taken over"... xP
This isnt going to work. WB are charging the same amount as for a movie on DVD. There is NO excuse that these downloadable movies should cost so much. Look at the prices of TV shows on itunes.
"a password must be entered to view the file and the file can only be opened on the computer on which it was downloaded." That won't last long... Someone will find a way around, no doubt.
*hermione voice* it's not going to work. There is iTunes but people still use LimeWire. The same will be true for this.
So it'll cost as much as a DVD rental. Does that mean that there's a limit to the number of views?
It won't work. Why on earth would people pay to download a movie if they could just get it for free. Why would they start paying now (not that I'm justifying their actions, or anything.)
if you download the movie via bittorrent, will they give you the special features as well? also, it says that it's the same price as a dvd rental, so it's only for a week or so? if that's true, i'd rather pay the $20 for an actual dvd with the special features and not worry about if i accidentally delete the movie from my computer!
i think it's a good idea!
oh, ya, that rocks
