JK Rowling still 'working hard' on Book 7
Jo Rowling updated her official site today with a new diary entry and a new addition to the rumors section. In her diary, Jo fills us in a little on Book 7's progress - she's currently "writing scenes that have been planned, in some cases, for a dozen years or even more" - and says, "I both want, and don't want, to finish this book (don't worry, I will.)" She also details a recent dream in which she was both Harry and the narrator.

I was searching for a Horcrux in a gigantic, crowded hall, which bore no resemblance to the Great Hall as I imagine it. As the narrator I knew perfectly well that the Horcrux was jammed in a hidden nook in the fireplace, while as Harry I was searching for it in all kinds of other places, while trying to make the people around me say lines I had pre-arranged for them. Meanwhile waiters and waitresses who work in the real cafe in which I have written huge parts of book seven roamed around me as though on stilts, all of them at least fifteen feet high. Perhaps I should cut back on the caffeine?

Could this dream have some bearing on an event in the seventh book? JK also wrote in her rumors section: "Harry will NOT merge with Voldemort to become a single entity, nor would Harry ever wish to command Death Eaters/Dementors/Inferi," debunking the theory he would.

I'm so happy for the update :-) but I don't think that her dream has something to do with the horcruxes, because Jo would never tell us something that impotant even before giving us the title of the book... and I hope so much that she will tell us the title on Christmas! That would be so awsome ;-)

~!heyhey all!~ this si so0o0o CRAZY!!! i was expecting a title or the release date or the door to open or something...JO is really making me mad... she has had 2 years to finish this book almost and she is taking her sweet time trying to make her last glimmer of hope for harry potter last...just give us the book already!!!! i think that there might be another update in the days or hours to come 1) When do u kno JO not to give us a present...:-P and 2) at the end of her post for the holidays she usually says happy holidays in this one she didnt!!!! when is she going to say it next christmas!!! no prolly with in the next few days... i still hav high hopes for the door to open and us to recieve the title of the last and final book... and also when she said she is finishing up plots that she has been working on for years...in an interview she did she said that she kno's how the last chapter is going to be and what the outcome of the story is so0o0o i think this is what she meant by that... but other than that all we can hope for is an update and plead to JO to give us one!!!!!! PLEASE JO GIVE US THE TITLE OR RELEASE DATE!!!!!1 ~!ROBBIE!~

Posted by SiriuslyHP Dec 19th 2006

yes! another update!! I get so excited everytime I see one of these updates because I think that it is a title or release date! But I agree, this was just a dream she had and there is absolutely no way she would reveal anything concerning the plot of the seventh book. I really really hope that she'll give us the title or release date as a Christmas present!!! As for the Snape theories... it's killing me to know the answers to all of my questions!!!! I need Book 7!!!!! That said, however, I completely understand her mixed emotions on finishing the series. Of course I want the final book which is so huge and awesome and yet I really don't want the fandom to come to an end... I love all of the theories and speculations and once the book comes out, it puts an end to all of that.... but I still say bring on Book 7!!!!!

Posted by silverphoenix21 Dec 19th 2006

Cool dream, but I don't think it'll have any significance in Book 7 or Jo wouldn't tell us about it.

Posted by beccat_hermione Dec 19th 2006

Cool! I've been wondering if filming for OotP was finished; they've done so much promotion for it lately.

Posted by beccat_hermione Dec 19th 2006

I agree with you guys, I think she definitely could be close to finishing if she's writing out scenes she's had planned from back-in-the-day. And I sure hope you guys are right about the title of book 7. I'm still hoping for a 7/7/07 release. My fingers are crossed super tight.

Posted by h_is_for_harry Dec 19th 2006

Doesn't the editing and printing process in making a book take a while? I really hope for the 7/7/07 date to be the release...but the more I think about it, the more I realize that would be very difficult, considering she's not finished with the book and there's much to be done before it's released to the public. We can still hope though =]

Posted by Gotpotter269 Dec 19th 2006

that would be a very strange seen!!

Posted by prima_luce Dec 19th 2006

Yes I hope it will be 7/7/07, too. But I'll have to wait 2 or 3 month longer for the german translation, and that's even more horrible ;-( but of course I'll read the english version, but it's still difficult for me to understand everything, because there are so many words I don't know, especially all this new creations of words that I can't look up in the dictionary... I want book 7!!! I guess that she'll tell us the title or release date soon.

Posted by hpwizkid Dec 19th 2006

I enjoyed reading this, and it slightly made me freak out a little--ok freak out a lot---I know this probably will have nothing to do with the final book, but then again it might....

Posted by Hannah_at_Hogwarts Dec 19th 2006

*CRACK* [apparates] Oh my, an impatient lot aren't you? I have to agree with the majority here on the possibility that Jo is close to finishing the book. I also believe that her dream tells us much of HER anxiety on finishing the book. What you need to remember is that HP is a very, very big part of Jo's life, and when she is finished with book 7, it will be like a death or divorce...half of her will be gone. Give her a break, allow her to have her grieving process!! Also, the waiters and waitresses on stilts tells me that she IS feeling pressure from the public in finishing the book. Let her creative juices flow, don't inhibit it by demanding the book! (These of course are my opinions only). NOW, as far as the book goes, who knows when it will be released? There are different styles of how a writer writes. Believe it or not, writers go over their writing about 3 times before the finished, polished version is handed over to the editor for publishing. Some writers write a chapter, then go over it refining it, then go over it again to polish it up before going to the next chapter and continue as such until they are done. Others do a 1st draft from start to finish and THEN refine it and go over it yet again to polish it up. We don't know what Jo's style is...however, if she IS close to the end, it is safe to say that the book can be published sometime next year. Oh and prima_luca: Sie sind sehr gut mit English zu schreiben, keiner Fehlern!

Posted by morgaine_dulac Dec 19th 2006

I pre-ordered a copy of HP VII yesterday. That felt great!!

Posted by degrassilover389 Dec 19th 2006

omg, I can't wait for the book any longer!!! I really hope it comes out next summer, and not any later!

Posted by tonksinlimegreenflipflops Dec 19th 2006

because no one has said it yet, i simply have to mention micah 2 episodes ago on mugglecast..... :)

Posted by CFplayer19 Dec 19th 2006

at least its something more than 'comeing along nicely'..........i totaly agree w/ her about not wanting 2 finish the book but still wantin 2!!!

Posted by christianaeg Dec 19th 2006

Withdrawal!!!! must.. have.. title..... to survive!

Posted by HPbrownLove1 Dec 19th 2006

i like her dream. lol =) I can't wait for the 7th book to come out!!! I'm so psyched!!!!!

Posted by Prefiera_de_Gryfalco Dec 19th 2006

"Dan has changed his theory on Snape; he says he doesn't want to be like one of those people who are photographed, beaming, next to mad dictators." Let's analyze this, shall we? When she say "he says he doesn't want...", does she mean "Dan says Snape doesn't want..."? If that is the case, that could mean Snape is more calculating and in it for himself than ever and shares the limelight with no one. Or it could mean Snape wouldn't and couldn't tolerate Voldemort and is still on the side of good. Of course, it is Dan Radcliffe's opinion and not hers, so eh...

Posted by HogwartsKnut Dec 19th 2006

Very interesting. By the sounds of the diary entry Jo is still writing, not revising, so that means that the book won't be ready for a Christmas Day title announcement. The dream sounds interesting, could be a ruse to put us on an alternate track of thinking. Merry Christmas everyone.

Posted by jana Dec 19th 2006

If Jo is writting the bits that she is planning for years, perhaps she is nearly done!! I do hope so, this waiting for a title is killing me!!

Posted by mrsyoung84 Dec 19th 2006

I'm so friggin' happy to get ANY kind of update from her!

Posted by H2theP Dec 19th 2006

Yeahhhh!!!!! She updated her site.... Now if only she would give the title :)

Posted by hpwiz812 Dec 19th 2006

You know what would be the BEST christmas present EVER, Jo??? to know the title OR release date for dear old book 7... AT LEAST GIVE US THE TITLE FOR CHRISTMAS LIKE WHEN HBP WAS COMING OUT!!! PLEASE!!! POR FAVOR!!! (if i say "please" in more languages would you tell us the title??? :-P

Posted by DesertRose Dec 19th 2006

Her dream was just pure brilliance. Its good to know even genius' have freaky dreams too :)

Posted by Matrinka Dec 19th 2006

I'm guessing that we're probably not getting book 7 in July now. :P

Posted by HPbrownLove1 Dec 19th 2006

nice to hear she's working on the book... like i said before, i liked the dream

Posted by nearly_headless_nick Dec 19th 2006

Kadaj, what do you mean? do you mean the way Jo writes is awkward? ---Prefiera_de_Gryfalco, if she has written that is because there is a reason, so in my opinion what Dan says is important. Jo doesn't throw things without a reason. And I always find interesting other fans' theories, so I'm glad to hear his opinion too.

Posted by potter4president Dec 19th 2006

oh man...there goes all my theorys of a death eater/ inferi commanding harry... JK guys! well i'm glad to hear she's working on it!!! write, Jo, write!! =]

Posted by ShilohBailey Dec 19th 2006

Contrary to what the majority is saying here... I think she is actually really close to finishing book 7. It's really good to know that she feels the same anxity (sp? =S) about the release of book 7. I actually think that they could get the book through editting and publishing and hyping by 7-7-07... it would be incredible to get a release date and/or title for Christmas!!! it makes my stomach jump just to think about it ... =P

Posted by h_is_for_harry Dec 19th 2006

ShilohBailey- I really hope what you think is true! Do you (or anyone else) happen to know (or just take a guess) about how long the editing/publishing, etc. process takes after Jo finishes writing?

Posted by Uglybaldboy Dec 19th 2006

Is that also an update to the extra section, miscellaneous - spell definitions. I can't remember seeing that before and it was good to see it. Has it been up a while and I'm just slow?

Posted by SiriusEqualsLuv Dec 19th 2006

Yes finally an update!!! i dont really think book seven will be ready by july either.... but thats ok, i can wait a long time for a book like this........ o i hope harry doesnt die. :( ....... i should lay off the caffeine too.

Posted by Rainbow_muggle Dec 19th 2006

I hate to be such a negative Nancy but to me this sounds like we won't get any more info on book 7 (or at least a release date) for a while.

Posted by wishmyhairwasred Dec 19th 2006

yay! top one hundred!! i am soooo glad she updated. the scences she has been planning...hopefully between Harry and Ginny??? (: i am so ready for the next book!!!yes!!!! i cannot wait any longer!!

Posted by Juliegranger Dec 19th 2006

although it is nice to theorize about how this could relate to the final book, I dont think that Jo would actually tell us about a dream of hers that had true information in it regarding the book. I think it is most likely that she put that dream in her diary entry solely for out entertainment, and not to give away any clues. After all, it seems too early to give away clues if she hasnt even told us the title of the book yet.

Posted by SiriuslyHP Dec 19th 2006

sorry i'm going to add another comment ;) when she said that Dan changed theories on Snape, it could very possibly mean what Prefiera_de_Gryfalco stated in her post... or it kind of sounds like Dan is saying that he doesn't want to stand by Snape and declare that Snape is good only to find out that Snape turns out evil and then Dan looks like he is "standing next to an evil dictator and smiling like he supports him". I don't know... the quote is kind of ambiguous.... hmmm... either way, I hope that we see some redemption in a character... be it Snape or Percy or someone... only my opinion :)

Posted by Hannah_at_Hogwarts Dec 19th 2006

SiriuslyHP: There is no way that git Percy could redeem himself, not the way he treated his family. LOL!!! I actually would prefer to be surprised about Snape. I haven't made up my mind yet on his character yet...I can wait.

Posted by peevesrocks Dec 19th 2006

*sing song* my friend was wrong, and i was right! i knew harry and voldy wouldn't ever be one!

Posted by mudbloodprincess Dec 19th 2006

welll...i really liked the dream and rumor update! yay!! i dont think she's giving anything away cuz she's jkr and she wouldnt do dat...lol!!! as for the dreams...i've had mulitple hp dreams though its almost always with the marauders...haha!! thnx mugglenet!! lyl lyl

Posted by SiriuslyHP Dec 19th 2006

Yeah, I do agree with you, Hannah_at_Hogwarts. it made me cry the way he treated his family... i am from a huge and close-knit family so i could only imagine how much that would hurt his family. Although his pompous letter to Ron really made me crack up: he thinks he's such a bigshot but he really is a git, like you said :) I wonder if he tried to repent if the rest of the Weasley family would forgive him? Yeah, I really haven't decided on Snape yet either... i guess i just don't what to think... I was just wondering if JKR would try to redeem any characters... it seems plausible but then again my mind doesn't work in the brilliant way hers does lol.

Posted by nyrin Dec 19th 2006

Merge? With Voldemort? What the hell kind of a theory is that? Man some fans are f-ing crazy.

Posted by Roundie Dec 19th 2006

Uglybaldboy - Spell definitions are new to me too, but then I realized just a few visits ago that the Extra Stuff was in alphabetical order and not in order of updates. So who knows?? MuggleNet does not appear to have those updates in their archives. But again, not very observant/thorough; feel free to correct me.

Posted by Kid_A Dec 20th 2006

Well, guess we're gonna learn the title of the book on April or May 2007. :P And if Jo is "still" working hard and there becomes a 500-600 pages long book seven, then she'll find my hands on her throat! :D Joking... I love you Jo, keep writing; as much better you write, that much I like to read.

Posted by proud_slytherin Dec 20th 2006

she is writing the end of the book!! she is very close to finish it!!!! how freaking exciting! Im still hoping that by the 25th, there would be a new update that will say "the book is finished".... hellz yeah!

Posted by Griselda Dec 20th 2006

"...one of those people who are photographed, beaming, next to mad dictators" Lol, if that isn't a hint with the sledgehammer, I don't know what is.

Posted by performingmonkey Dec 20th 2006

I think Jo is referring to Godric's Hollow, scenes that have been planned since pre-PS/SS. She has obviously always known what really happened that night and now Harry is going to find out himself (methinks from a Pensieve memory from the OTHER person who was there). If I were to guess I would say this scene could happen just before the big finale of the book, just before Harry goes off to his final showdown with LV. So...I'm thinking there's still quite a bit for her to write yet, but I'm confident we're getting an '07 release.

Posted by lilyp Dec 20th 2006

Roundie and Uglybaldboy, the spells definition were already there, they were added to the site on October the 31st.

Posted by ArianaMiraclour Dec 20th 2006

Oh im so excited! I can't wait to hear more! I'm hoping we'll get a title like CHRISTMAS MORNING! That would be the best christmas gift ever...or maybe like...at midnight on new years eve.....I can't wait...i almost start crying thinking about it!!! AHHH!!! *runs off to read HBP*

Posted by HermioneGurl Dec 20th 2006

I like the idea of waiting for book 7, but I hate the idea of Harry dying.(ahem ahem NOT MALFOY THOUGH!) But I am getting very impatient!

Posted by mugglequeen Dec 20th 2006

what an awesome dream! haha i had a dream about harry potter last night too, it was weird, i got book 7 (which came out on the 1st of july) and then went to school which was stone and similar to Hogwarts and met with one of my friends and we were wearing robes. But then it changed and i was wearing a 'winnie the poo' costume.. it was quite bizzar. So Jk's dream could mean something - about harry trying to find the Horocruxes and being unable to or it could be a confused mess of all things that remind her of hp. As my dream was, my friend loves hp too, however i dunno where winnie the poo came into it. But still we will find out someday.. I HATE BEING CURIOUS ABOUT BOOK 7!!! I hate to admit it, but i wish i wasn't sometimes.
