The title of Book 7!
Presenting your Christmas present from Jo Rowling:Thank you, Jo, and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Analyze the title: Debate and discussion about the title is currently taking place over at our forums - go check it out!
The release date: Find out when we think Book 7 will be released, now that we have a title.
EDIT: Some news outlets are reporting the title as "Deathly Hollows," but this is incorrect. Also, for those of you who hadn't noticed, the title was released yesterday on the winter solstice. Recall in OOTP: "...at the solstice will come a new... and none will come after..." At the winter solstice, a new title will be revealed, but as this is the last book, no more will be released.

It looks like it could mean that Harry might die. The title is so dark. Also; "At the solstice will come a new" ... "and none will come after". Today is the Winter Solstice! (there's loads of strange connections and notes like this on TLC).
A hallow is a valley. In book 6 Harry learns how Voldemort's father (from the valley) was put under a love spell by his mother to make him fall in love with her. Maybe Harry will have to go back to that valley to find the last Harcux.
Oops, I meant they WON'T release both the book and the movie in the same month.
YAY!!! I love it! It has a dramatic ring to it: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. Now to figure out what are these hallows and why are they so deathly...? I hope she releases the other two titles she was trying to decide between!
Someone earlier commented that she read online that the title was the Hallows of Hogwarts but then it got withdrawn. I like Hallows of Hogwarts better, but if that was a title Jo had at least considered, than the Deathly Hallows might be refering to the Hogwarts Founders. Hm.
This truly is great news. We discussed this in a mini-podcast over at www.hpprogs.com- you can get your HP podcast fix there while you are waiting to hear what the mugglecast crew has to say about this! Penny from Harry Potter Prognostications
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! AHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! III I AMMM SITTING AND SCHOOL....... AND I JUST STARTED SCREAMING.... AND ALL THE TEACHERS KICKED ME OUT I CANN'T EVEN TYPE.... THAT IS HARD I AM SHAKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU JO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHH
The title to book 7 is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. I saw it on Yahoo News. I'm still mad that JK is killing off 2 people. Though I hope she kills off Voldemort and Snape. It'll suck if she kills Harry off. I think it'd be awesome if she'd have Harry get Sirius back and have all the old dead death eaters and all the old dead "good" people come back like Harry's parents and all the dead original order of the phoneix people from the first time come back and just fight each other because that'd be cool. I hope it comes out soon. Can't wait.
i hope that the book will be out in july and cant wait to read it now
(jumps on chair and laughs like a maniac) OH MY FREGIN SH*T , HOLLY CRAP and just .... YEAAAAAAAH Ahem in case you didn't get that I'm pretty exsited :) but what's the title mean ? hollow as in cave like the one where the Horcruxwas supposed to be? I don't know but with the word death in the title it seems like it's gonna be ummm how shall I put it .... interesting. YAY JO
Oh my God!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Joyfulness!!! I am so over-excited it's not even funny!!!! AHAHAHAHAHAH!!! Must-Keep-Breathing! If she's just released the title now that must mean that it's coming out next summer because that's what happened last time!!! YAY!!!!!
Does anyone else find it strange that "hallow" is a verb, and not a noun? Maybe I just haven't found the right definition, but Deathly Hallows doesn't really make sense. Unless it means, it will be deathly to make something sacred or holy. And that could mean .. a whole number of things.
I am so excited that the title was released....of course it makes life a bit more exciting as I can now start to think about what the title means....but also sad that it is the last title that we ever had to wait for regarding Harry Potter and now that's over...im getting sad already... anyways, i thought it was funny that MSN reported the title and everything...only they spelt it wrong....they have Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows....missing out the "a" is not a huge deal i guesss....but when you are reporting on something as big as this...and you know a lot of people will call you out on being wrong.....i wonder how difficult it is to double check on something like that before printing it....sorry to that reporter but i laughed a bit at that. everyone makes mistakes i guess....
oommgg. "deathly hollows".... it's got a ring to it!
Wow!! That is totally Cool!!! THe Deathly hallow I think it is to do with the Final War or Godrics Hollow!!
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOGMGOMGOGM GOMGOGMOGMGOMGOGOGMOMGOMG OGMOGMOMGOGMOGMGOMGOMGOMG OGMGOMGOMGGOGMOGMGOGMOGMG OMGOGMGOMGOMGGOMG!!!!!!!! !!!YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE IM SO EXCITED TO READ IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!AAAAAAAAAA HHHHH
OMG!!!!!!! I'm so excited :D but I'm kind of sad that this is the last book :(

Wow. It's an intriguing title. I don't know, it's a bit weird: it's different from the other titles, less concrete. I don't really know what to think yet. Of course I'm 'OMG, the TITLE', calling all my friends, etc, etc. They didn't have much insight to what it might mean, though, cause I think I woke them all up (oops). But here are my thoughts: I looked up the two words in the dictionary to get some ideas. What's weird is that in three print dictionaries we have at home, 'hallow' is a verb, not a noun, meaning "to make holy; sanctify; consecrate" or "to honor as holy; consider sacred; venerate" or "to respect greatly." I checked some online dictionaries, and they all list it as a verb. Only on wiktionary was there a listing for 'hallow' as a noun: "a holy person, a saint." I always thought hallows were spirits, which is kind of along the line of what I've found, but not quite. Deathly is listed as "of, relating to, or suggestive of death" -- no big surprise there. So I think death will be a big theme in the book, more so than it has been thus far in the series. People's idea of Harry going to the wizarding underworld doesn't seem to far off, especiallly since that idea has been discussed before the release of the title name. The underworld definitely seems like a place where there'd be 'deathly hallows.' For some reason, I'm feeling like these deathly hallows will be helping Harry in some way, rather than hurting him. Another thing to analyze is what happens to wizards when they die, and see how deathly hallows fits into that. Hallows are by definition holy, so maybe this is another category of dead wizards, as ghosts are one category. Holy wizards (ha, the radical Christians would probably say that's an oxymoron-- nothing against them though, I mean, I'm Catholic, but anywho...) and wizards afraid of death-- two categories of wizards who die-- and then there's others in between, etc. Another thing to think about: how much have the titles really revealed about t...
OH MY GOODNESS!! AAAAAAAAAAH!!! THIS IS THE END OF THE MAGIC YOU GUYS!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!! NOW'S THE TIME FOR US TO SHOW WHO HAS THE BEST FANS IN THE WORLD!!!!!*cries*
oh man i love jo!!!! she drops this on us and now i get to read all the crazy theories that come into play now. its great. i even googled and searched wikipedia for definitions for hallows too . this is what i got from google........ ("holy" or "holy night") the Oct. 31 Greater Sabbat, also called November Eve, the Celtic Samhain ("sow-en"); the beginning of the Celtic winter, and of the Celtic year; the beginning of the Witches' Year, when the Veil Between the Worlds grows thin and the spirits of the dead may return to Earth; the Descent of the Goddess to the Underworld; the final Harvest festival.............. I LOVE JO!!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! and to the few that ave b-days today HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
how exciting. it has a nice ring to it. here's hoping there will be plenty of Draco.
Yay! I knew this was going to be revealed any day now... !!!
Now for the second time you can call me crazy, or even ridiculous, but I think the title of the book is announced early. The reason is that, O.K., we were wondering it very very much, but we were not dying to know, you know, it didn't blow up "that much"... 'Cause now we wonder what's the cover of the book gonna be. But yet, all the American and English news websites are full of Potter and Rowling news, and that's wonderful. :P
GRRRR... It won't let me open the door. I can get as far as reveling the key, but my computer won't let me drag the key to the door. FRUSTRATING!!!
Has anyone thought about this is the last time a title will be revealed!!! I really enjoyed looking at jkrowling.com like six times everyday to see if the new titles where there... now this will be over, I must wait to see the release date and the WOMBATS!!!
*dies again* Now that I can breath normaly, I have to say... this title opens up sooo much thoeries and speculation. "Half Blood Prince" the only big especulation was "Who is he?" and that's what all the discussions centered around. But now... it's not a concrete title like a Prince, or a Prisoner, or a stone, you know? And I LOVE it, because it will open all those discussion I've been wanting to have in such a long time.
godric hollow? is that what it means
godric hollow? is that what it means
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG *breathe* OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. I knew we were going to get another Christmas present! I KNEW IT!!! Holy cow, this is like the best thing ever. Know I can start referring to it by name instead of book 7. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! !! I am freaking out right now!
OMG,OMG,OMG This is a so much better Christmas gift then my apple laptop way more excited about this I can hardly type my fingers are shaking. Thanks to Micah. Wow! That is a sweet title totally forshadowing eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeee. So excited ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
Wow...such an intriguing title. I can't wait for the book! I think it's definitely on target now for a summer release...crossing fingers. 07/07/07 here we come...crosses fingers again! hogwartsherald. com
Okay, I got cut off. Firstlly, an edit: I wrote "to far off"; it should be "too far off." And to continue: How much have the titles really revealed about the books? "Sorcerer's Stone": Yeah, the stone was important in the plot of the book, but the title didn't reveal where it was or that Voldemort was after it, or what its purpose was. "Chamber of Secrets": Before we read the book, we had no idea what this was about or that it had anything to do with a basilisk or the heir of Slytherin. "Prisoner of Azkaban": I can't remember it we knew about Azkaban before this book. But I know we didn't know who Sirius was, so that didn't tell us much. "Goblet of Fire": We had no idea what this was for. This didn't reveal anything about Barty Crouch Jr. or Voldemort's return. "Order of the Phoenix": Yeah, they reformed in this book, but that wasn't really the most important element in the book. "Half-Blood Prince": If we knew ahead of time that this was Snape or that it had to do with Harry's potions book, then that might have told us something, but we didn't. And the title didn't tell us anything about Harry's "lessons" with Dumbledore. So, yes, the book 7 title will lead to some interesting discussions, but it alone can not reveal what happens in book 7 or even the main premise of the book. We have to look back to previous books for clues in context of the new title. Thanks Jo! Awesome Christmas present! And the sooner we know the release date, the happier I'll be, so I can plan my very busy summer around it! Merry Christmas all, and may theories of deathly hallows be dancing in your heads.
OMG! Wonder why it's called that
n___n Awesome. 'Wasnt expecting a title at all, at least before new year's. I agree it sounds a little weird - but I guess it'll just take a bit of getting used to.. Deathly Hallows.. We're so close to the end, now guys ;-;
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol i just got home from a sleepover and my mom was like, "i heard about the title for the next Harry Potter book on the news. I have it written down -" and i was like "DON'T TELL ME!!!!! I want to go to Mugglenet.... wait, tell me! I want to find out now!" LOL i was so excited. this is awesome.... but what does this title mean??? "DEATHLY HALLOWS?" lol so excited, maybe we will be getting a publication date soon... maybe even a '07 summer release.... ? who knows? only Jo.
Wait!! Am I crazy or NOWHERE on JKR.com says that this is actually the title of Book 7? Maybe this is a joke. Bcause I think that revealing the title of Book 7 would actually be a reason for JK to update her diary, and she didn't.... And, like I said before. There's nowhere in the website that assures that this is the actual title!! I may be wrong, but what if I'm not??
It's definitely a title I would not expect. Others have been more memorable, but it's something. Plus, it involves the word "Deathly"lol
WOW WOW WOW WOW! This is amazing! I can hardly wait! x
OMG this is the best present!!!!! i still think that it is going to come out 2008 or very late 2007. i cant believe it's almost over! im so happy but very sad!
That is most definitely the best title yet. It doesn't give too much away, but properly tantalizes you. HBP was not my favorite title. It was too generic and didn't have a whoooole lot to do with the overall plot of the book. And it wasn't very mysterious. This makes me want to go rob JK Rowling and read the manuscript, whether or not its rough. EXCIIIIITTTEEEDDD!!!!!!
I am honestly tearing up here. I am just so happy! I need to breathe. It really is Christmas now!
I think this pretty much confirms that 10/31/2007 - Halloween will be the release date of Book 7. The title is absolutely perfect. Halloween has much significance in the series. I think the Deathly Hallows are Voldemort's Horcrux hiding places. Excellent title, can't wait to read the book.
that's awesome. i don't know what it means, but i'm just glad that we finally got a title!!! i can't wait to buy the book.
Typical that the tiele is revelaed on the day i don't go online!!!! but wow!!! that is amazing!!! On the news they said it wwas announced on the publisher's website?? why didn't they say JKROWLING'S website?? Oh well! YAY!!!
Okay, darn. This is making me sad now. Why? Because it's the last time we're going to scream or get excited or freak out over the title of the NEW Harry Potter book or any book for that matter. There won't be any more. We'll only have the movies. D: And let's face it, I don't like Daniel Radcliffe. XD
OMG! this is the best Christmas present ever! I love the title!!!!!!
So, I've been thinking, and I've made my conclusions: HALLOWS: I read on a comment here that Hallows are things that people are looking for in legends (Horcruxes) DEATHLY: Well, obviously searching for the Horcruxes won't be healthy! And as for the realize date, I don't think that it'll be Summer 2007. My guess is Fall 2007 or Summer 2008. It has got to be one of those. WhY? Because well, fall 2007 wouldn't be that far away, and it might be appropiate to publish it near Halloween, as the Final Battle between Harry and Voldemort may be on Halloween. And Summer 2008 because they must want it to be published on the summer so kids have free time to read the book. PS. I still mantaing my supposition that this may not be the real title for book 7. (Read page 301-350 to look for my previous comment)
thats flippin awesome!!
