MuggleNet Throwback: Plans for permanent 'Potter' tour at Leavesden Studios approved in April 2010

A look back using our MuggleNet Timetuner shows us a news post that has come full circle since it was first reported. It's amazing how time flies by when you're having fun!

In April of 2010, MuggleNet reported that Warner Brothers' plans to create a permanent studio on the hallowed grounds of Leavesden Studios in Watford, England, was approved and set to open to the public in 2012.

Warner Brothers, which has brought world-wide fame to the former aerodrome complex with its Harry Potter franchise, can now begin a programme of redevelopment worth an estimated 100 million pounds – creating hundreds of jobs and providing a boost to the local economy.

The company, which will now purchase the site outright and use it as its European filming base, will build new film stages, production and administration facilities.

It will also open a Harry Potter themed visitor attraction to cater for up to 5,000 visitors a day.

Just a little over two weeks ago on March 31st, 2012, the Grand Opening event took place for the Warner Brothers Studio Tour London: The Making of Harry Potter, with a star-studded red carpet event to welcome the latest and perhaps one of the greatest visitor attractions in the United Kingdom. MuggleNet was there to bring you interview coverage from the red carpet event, along with pre-opening tour reports.

Two years and 100-million pounds after this initial approval, and the fans of Harry Potter are now able to visit the iconic sets, see the amazingly detailed props, costumes, creatures, animatronics, miniatures, architectural design, and so much more from the highest grossing film franchise in history.
