Maggie Smith receives BAFTA TV nomination for work on 'Downton Abbey'

Dame Maggie Smith, who plays the harsh, albeit beloved, Professor Minerva McGonagall, has earned a Best Supporting Actress nomination for the BAFTA TV awards.

The nominations, which were announced this morning in London, honor the best in British television, from the actors, to producers, and crew. This would be Maggie's sixth win and is her eighteenth nomination. She was previously nominated for her role in David Copperfield, with Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe. She was also awarded with the BAFTA Special Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993.

Downton Abbey takes place in the years leading up to World World I, and centers around the Crawley family, of which Maggie plays the part of Violet. It airs on PBS and is available in the US & UK. You can read more about the show over on PBS's website.
