Laura Mallory to appeal yet again
Laura Mallory, the mother who has been crusading since August 2005 to remove the Potter books from the County's school libraries, is set to appeal to the County's Superior Court the decision Georgia state made in December to keep the books on shelves.

Mallory said, "We will take a stand for truth, and pray God will touch the hearts of this generation." For the past year and a half, she has vehemently preached that the books indoctrinate children in witchcraft. She hasn't, however, actually read the books.

Mallory says she is poised to take legal action and has apparently received "significant donations" from "supporters" in aid of this.

Emerson's Comment: Ever seen a fly crash itself repeatedly into a transparent pane of glass, never quite getting the hint? Yeah.

When is she gonna figure out nobody;s listening to her?

Posted by thevoicebehindtheveil Jan 19th 2007

Dreamer, people ARE listening to her. If no one was listening, there would be no 452 posts on this board. It's just that very few take her seriously.

Oh dear. Take a hint and find a worthy cause!

Exzactly my point, bravosix

(Read My Comment On Com. 401-450) Actually thevoicebehindtheveil, the first time Anya said that she hated Christians, I was polite to her. I asked her why, and she responded in rude reply's. Then she offended me, and I got angry, and she kept on at it. Saying stuff like: I HATE CHRISTIANS. YOUR ALL IDIOTS. I got offended, then she said worse, she said horrible things to me, and about my Religion. It's only natural for me to get angry. She's always been a attention seeker. She'll never learn. I may be responding to her the wrong way, and I am so sorry to other Christians or fellow Catholics who think that I am setting a bad example. But this.... girl has been VERY offensive.

As an avid Christian I am ashamed to call this woman my "sister" in Christ. It's ridiculous the things she does! First off she needs to read the bloody series so that she knows what she's talking about and second, she needs to look at the series as a group of books because that's what they are. Not witchcraft promoting books. Just books. That people with sense in their heads enjoy. How daft can people be?

Posted by ConCon Jan 19th 2007

Who's seen Ace Ventura? "Unfortunately, in every game there has to be a loser. Lahoo-Saherr" sorry laura, but your kung fu is not strong (the core) ... i love movie quotes

Posted by ice Jan 19th 2007

i think she just needs attention. LOL! there is so nothing anti religious, plz, at my old CHATHLIOC (sp) school some of the literature teachers would divide their classes by the houses and your could earn points for them an so on, it was fun thats all it is fun nothing evil!

Posted by potterette Jan 19th 2007

Imagine the playground:"Hey Mallory! Your mom is so stupid she makes the administration look smart!" (Yes Timothy, Anya is an attention seeker, once again potterette takes your side)

Posted by HPFANTimothy Jan 19th 2007

THANK YOU SO MUCH POTTERETTE!

Posted by Brooke1125 Jan 19th 2007

READ THE FLIPPIN' BOOKS THEN MAYBE WE WILL TALK!!! maybe god will touch the hearts of this generation??? HE ALREADY HAS!!! he had Jo help him do it!!!

Posted by HannahWeasley Jan 19th 2007

This is so dumb!!!!!!I LIVE in the county she's trying to take the books out of!!!!!!! She's such an IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's so stupid; why doesn't she stop bothering us and go back to her life--oh, wait she doesn't have one. She just wants to take away our joy in life because she doesn't have any! Maybe if she READ the books (if she can read) then she wouldn't be so stupid!!!!!

I'm an avid HP fan, a mom, AND a Christian. When my older son first became interested in HP, I read book 1 in order to find out whether it was okay for him. Contrary to the ridiculous allegations of this woman and her ilk, nowhere in the series is magic suggested to be a panacea or even glorified--we can easily see that magic does not make life easier for Harry or anyone else; they still have problems that magic cannot remedy. Moreover, the books are not instructive in the practice of magic. And as the Granger book claims, I find a great deal of allusion to Christian principles in the series, such as taking a stand against evil, love for others, even small character lessons like Harry's reliance on Snape's old potions book backfiring ie. cheating doesn't pay, etc. Mallory makes the same mistake that so many people of different beliefs and times have: she doesn't do the work of thinking for herself and seeking truth for herself (she should read Acts 17:11), and instead has sought shelter in ignorance and bigotry. I'm incredibly frustrated by people like her, who claim to set the standard for Christian values but couldn't be farther from imitating Christ themselves. It's not a wonder that others develop such a warped perspective of Christianity. Unfortunately, prejudice comes easily to all humans.

Lol, Emerson's comment made me laugh really hard. Anyways, with that out of the way, this is just... ehhh. I admire her perseverence, but PLEASE, couldn't she take her determination elsewere? Like, for something that's actually WORTHWHILE? But since she obviously doesn't get the idea I'll just listen for more Laura Mallory updates on MuggleCast. =)

dude. I would LOVE to see a debate against Mallory and Rowling on national televion. Announcer: And these two women come face to face, an Anti-Harry Potter supporter from Georgia, and well known author J.K. Rowling. Mallory: Ms. Rowling, you should ban your books now! You are feeding Wicca and witchcraft and evil into our young, innocent, children's minds! Rowling: Um, I'm confused. How exactly did I manage to do that? Can you give me a specific example from the book? Mallory: *turns red Well..I-uh-the wizards and witches are promoting death! Rowling: "Promoting death" can be related to a number of things in our society. Can you perhaps give me a SPECIFIC example? Mallory: I haven't exactly-well-not that-well-yes-I-never actually read the books- Announcer: Well, that concludes our segment. Ms. Mallory was later mobbed at her Georgian home by thousands of screaming fans, as they watched her break down. Everyone was happy.

Ever wonder what the term "religious zealot" means? Laura Mallory is a classic example of one. She has not, by her own admission, bothered to read the books, yet she charges blindly forward in her quest to ban something she knows nothing about, all in the name of God. I can't help but feel a mixture of both ridicule and pity for her. Ridicule for the fact of her blatant ignorance on the subject she is trying valiantly to battle, without bothering to educate herself. Pity, for the fact that she has made such a sactimonious ass of herself in the public arena. If she would bother to take the time, and learn from history, she just might discover that the courts are loathe to ban books based solely on religious grounds, seeing as we do have something in America known as the First Amendment. I feel sure that Ms. Mallory is a good person at heart, and her motivation to protect children is certainly admirable. Unfortunatly, she is also misguided and narrow-minded, to say the least. If she would channel her energies into something more meaningful, she could surely accomplish great things.

If you think about it, its actually funny, isnt it? I love you Laura.

Posted by Roonil Jan 20th 2007

Um, is she mentally sound? Definitely not. I think she just wants attention. Even if the attention is being egging her house or something.

Posted by harrypotteretard Jan 20th 2007

marythefairy09, I would LOVE to see Laura Mallory and the Mugglecasters debate! Jo is too nice! That would make my day, and perhaps my year!

Posted by Watari Jan 20th 2007

Ugh..can she not take a REALLY NON-SUBTLE hint that she is loosing and needs to GIVE UP?!?!

Posted by Kyreni Jan 20th 2007

Won't she ever give up? In a way this makes me wonder if she was alive in the 1950's when CS Lewis had wrote Narnia would she have done the same thing? Just food for thought.

Haha! Loved Emerson's comment! XD

I know that this is probably not going to help but I would like everyone who is reading the comments on this post not to judge Christians by how Timothy and people are acting. I am one and we are supposed to give grace just like our Lord does. Laura Mallory is annoying, but you know, she isn't harming me and I could care less about what she does. I think she is being an idiot but that has nothing to do with me. And Timothy, you are going to meet a lot of people in your life who DON'T respect all religions. If you hadn't noticed Christianity is one of the most unsheltered or unprotected religions of the world. People just don't respect Christianity, so you might be hurt by that, I know I am sometimes, but it is no excuse to fly off the handle and accuse other people. Christ never shouted or grew angry when people beat and mocked him. He prayed for those who accused him... for those who murdered him. Can't you give some grace to those people who offend you? I know I don't all the time but I try, and I don't risk getting banned form commenting

Posted by 1mischief_managed Jan 20th 2007

I don't understand why people make such a big fuss over HP books just because of witchcraft. If its so wrong why hasn't anyone said anything about Snow White, Cinderella or any of the other stories that envolves any kind of magic? Rediculus!

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. ....................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ............I wonder what book Mallory thinks they are trying to ban in Heaven's library?

Posted by Leslie33 Jan 20th 2007

I KNEW this would happen. She's one of these Goody-Goody two shoes who HAS to prove she's right. She's going to keep going until she gets her way. Then she will hold a news conference, wear this sickingly-sweet smile and talk about how EVIL Harry Potter is. How SHE can raise YOUR Children better than you can. How EVERY Child should be reading good wholesome books where everyone is GOOD and NOTHING bad happens. Laura Mallory knows Harry Potter's scar is unknowningly bewitching our minds. THAT is why we read these books. It's NOT because we find them really cool. See, I KNEW it all along, there IS something about Harry's scar. His scar somehow bewitches our minds to read the books. Oh My God, we've got to be saved. Parents of young Children, don't worry, you're going to be saved from your faux pas by Laura Mallory. Afterall, she's THE PERFECT MOTHER. One of these days you will thank her for saving your Children from reading exciting books. Even if your kids are 15, they should still be reading Nursery Rhymes and how GOOD people are. We have to protect them from EVIL Harry Potter. Yep, Laura Mallory will stand there smiling about how SMART she is. In short, LAURA MALLORY is one of the most selfish people in the media. She thinks she is saving humanity. Well why doesn't she raise money for her local Children's charity. She's putting herself ahead of her Children--that people is proof to how selfish this cow is. Even if her kids come home crying because people are Bullying them, she keeps going. Why? Because she has to have her own way to make a point. I HATE people like her.

Posted by scoobert Jan 20th 2007

For heaven's sake (please, excuse the pun), if she doesn't like living around "heathens" then she should just move. She shouldn't be trying to change everybody around her.

Posted by CatWalk Jan 20th 2007

I can see that she wants to keep children "safe," but really...throwing flies on these children will just want to make the kids puke even more.

Posted by imapirateargg Jan 20th 2007

As I have said many times this women needs to just leave it alone. I mean can't she just accept that she isn't going to win?

Posted by xslytherinkittyx Jan 20th 2007

does she know that the harry potter books aren't the only magical/witchcraft books out there...? i used to be a frequent visitor of my school library and i read everything i could on the subject...6 books [soon to be 7! yay!] will not make a difference! and she hasn't bothered to read 'em......what a fool she's making of herself...she deserves to be the laughingstock of the world at large!

Posted by tjd8591 Jan 20th 2007

yeah is there anyway i can contact her? i want to tell her shes a moron.

Posted by music_is_magic Jan 20th 2007

Wow. She is a very.....determined woman. I mean, I am a very strong christian, but I think trying to ban Harry Potter is going a bit too far. Harry Potter is not encouraging children to go and leave there christian faith behind and join a cult of witches or something, it's fantasy! Make Believe! And the only darkness in it is Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters, but children don't want to be like them (well, most children don't) Also, it speaks of love! DUmbledore always said that LOVE was the best magic, so surely Laura Mallory can't say that it is ALL bad! I mean, love is one of the most important things in christian faith (in my opinion) and dumbledore is saying that the strongest magic is love. So yeah.

Posted by thevoicebehindtheveil Jan 20th 2007

1. Please call me Veil. 2. Timothy, don't get me wrong, I am mostly on your side about this, but you can't fight fire with fire. Reacting like you do will only cause Anya to react more fiercely, and this fight will never end that way. Try ignoring her for a while, see if she moves on. If she continues to talk this way about you without you provoking her, then you can report her for harassment. 3. I do think that Mrs. Mallory must have some mental disorder or have gone through some type of abuse for her to continue on these tirades agenst the books for attention.

Posted by marythefairy09 Jan 20th 2007

OMG Please Mugglecast people! Can you possibly find a way to invite Laura Mallory to your podcast to talk to her!! It would be sooo refreshing, and it probably would be one of the most listened to episodes. AND Mallory will most likely be willing to, in order to "fight valiantly" against the biggest Harry Potter fansite around. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE =]

Posted by thevoicebehindtheveil Jan 20th 2007

Marythefairy, sorry to be a pessimist because I would love to have her on mugglecast, but if she won't read the book she fights against so persistently, do you really think she'd go on Mugglecast? -sighs- I suppose we'll just have to use our imagingations ...

Posted by sweetdreamer0285 Jan 20th 2007

*rolls eyes* here comes (the predictable outcome) round 3. or is it 4?

Posted by thevoicebehindtheveil Jan 20th 2007

I've lost count, personally.

Posted by Witchy_Woman Jan 20th 2007

How many appeals are we up to now? I think something must have happened to her as a kid. Maybe she was abused. Maybe she was dropped I don't know. I do know that she will not win.

Posted by georgiarain Jan 20th 2007

This woman is a crack pot. My own preacher doesn't even mind these books. Doesn't this woman understand that it doesn't teach witchcraft, it teaches children to reach for farthest places of their imagination. I'm so sorry to say that this woman is from my home state but she does not represent everyone in Georgia.

Posted by DO2the3JEW Jan 20th 2007

she needs to just... go away...

Posted by xxhardlybreathingxx Jan 20th 2007

Reading The Harry Potter Books Has Taught Me To Worship The Devil And Claim That Everything Can Be Fixed By Magic. [Anyone Else Catch My Scarcasm?] This Whole "Case" Of Hers Is The Biggest Load Of Bull I've Heard In A While. I'm Sorry To Say That She Is A Fellow Christian And I Feel The Need To Comment That She Gives Us A Bad Name. We Don't All Think That Way. J/S

Posted by thevoicebehindtheveil Jan 20th 2007

Well, on the bright side, at least we don't to worry about her winning the apeal XD

Posted by golfmodel Jan 20th 2007

ok I truely belive that that women is a insane lunatic. She causes more problems than there will ever be good. ever. Is she a bird and the potter books a glass window with windex on them. She needs to find something better in her life than this. She could sit and knit in a dark corner and be doing more good than she is now. Mind you a very small very dark corner. With water and rice. And no one to visit her. No one, No one ever has the right to be sucha LOSER. Its un-human to not read the harry potter books anyway. But to try and ban them that lady has something comin if i have any say in it. witch(hehe) i do along with many others.

Posted by thevoicebehindtheveil Jan 20th 2007

Does she remind anyone else of Umbridge in muggle-form?

Posted by Lizzie355 Jan 20th 2007

God...she has a good trait though. Determination. or Perservence. however you spell it. she seems to have a problem with taking hints though...those last two things were UNIANIMOUS (spelling?) for a REASON.

Posted by thevoicebehindtheveil Jan 20th 2007

I think that I'm going to have to write a fan-fic about her meeting Voldy.
