Laura Mallory to appeal yet again
Laura Mallory, the mother who has been crusading since August 2005 to remove the Potter books from the County's school libraries, is set to appeal to the County's Superior Court the decision Georgia state made in December to keep the books on shelves.

Mallory said, "We will take a stand for truth, and pray God will touch the hearts of this generation." For the past year and a half, she has vehemently preached that the books indoctrinate children in witchcraft. She hasn't, however, actually read the books.

Mallory says she is poised to take legal action and has apparently received "significant donations" from "supporters" in aid of this.

Oh PLEASE! Not again?! Can't this woman take a hint? She is crazy to think she is righteous in removing other people's freedom to choose. Whatever. She'll keep losing, and that's her problem and her money's problem.

Posted by AliceFO Jan 18th 2007

Why would someone devote her time to a book that isn't effecting her life in anyway at all? Harry Potter has nothing what so ever to do with her and people have the right to decided whether they want to read them or not. If she doesn't want her children reading them, fine. But to tell other people to do the same is wrong. Hasn't she ever heard of freedom of speach? She's the biggest idot I have ever come across and she should shut up and go home to her sad and empty life.

OTRA VEZ LA BURRA AL TRIGO!!!! (For the non spanish speaking fans, this translates to AGAIN THE DONKEY [jackass] TO THE WHEAT! or in other words.....here we go again.

Posted by Harrysgirl21 Jan 18th 2007

This woman is so freakin' stupid! How many times does she have to lose before she gets it into her head that she's NOT GOING TO WIN!!!!!!!!! I mean WTF! The fact that she's fighting to get them banned doesn't really upset me (cause that won't happen), it's the fact that she hasn't even read the books! How can you know what a book promotes if you HAVEN'T EVEN READ IT??????? Grrrrrr..... *takes deep breathes* Hopefully once she loses this case she'll realize she's wasting everyone's time.

Posted by magicalmoo Jan 18th 2007

She just doesn't know when to quit, does she? -shakes head sadly-

Posted by helloemmy12 Jan 18th 2007

she just really needs to stop...

I've finally realized what my boggart would be. Laura Mallory winning a case.

Posted by drpepperaddict7 Jan 18th 2007

ok does anybody remember the machine magneto used in the first xmen movie to turn people into mutants? we should make something like that and turn her into a witch. hahahaha!

Posted by Mee Jan 18th 2007

Lady: GIVE UP ALREADY! No one has listened to you, and no one will because what you're saying is ridikulus (and yes, I typed that on purpose. If you wanna know why, read the books and stop saying stupidities!)

Posted by TheDarkLordHasReturned Jan 18th 2007

Give it up lady! Read the books before you make your judgements!

Posted by rhea Jan 18th 2007

Again?oy.Lady.Just Oy.Lol.Geez!Why wont she just give up already!?!Why does she hate books she has never even read?

Posted by dansangel Jan 18th 2007

Well I´ve reached a point where the only thing I can say is: I really don´t care what this stupid woman says and do. She had proved so many times that she indeed is the incarnation of total stupidity

Posted by AnyaMarcos Jan 18th 2007

Mahony, America has our share of nuts, but we don't have the monopoly on Christian Psychos. Check out the UK's "Christian Voice." Yikes. And for the people saying Wicca is the wrong path, well that's typical Christian snobbery. Personally I'vebeen hurt a lot worse by hy Christian friends than my Wiccan ones.

Posted by kerrman2004 Jan 18th 2007

This woman is a total nutter! why wont she give up? I'm Irish catholic and the Harry Potter series are my favourite books. Its a fictional book people! Even little kids know not to take the magic stuff in it seriously. Its not like little kids are going around around saying "i can do magic" or "mommy, will there be hippogriffs at the zoo?" Its not blasfimous because its not REAL! she needs to get over herself like right now. I personally think she should either actually read the books or just shut the hell up. Oh and in reply to CannyZebra's comment yes, witchcraft (wicka) is considered a religion by the people who practice it in real life so this woman should be more respectful of other religions.

Posted by littlefawks Jan 18th 2007

ok.. a couple of points here... 1. please note that not all southerners (aka ga and such) are like this. and yes, she does give us a bad rep. however, there are bad apples (or in this case a bad peach) in every state. hatred and ignorance knows no bounds. 2. i agree with many here that if she is going to actually advocate to the banning of these books, or any other books, she needs to first read them in order to accurately know what she is wanting to ban. 3. rowlings has previously stated that these books in no way advocate magic. she doesn't even believe in witchcraft! 4. i myself however, am pagan. and i'm not stupid enough to actually think that this is "real magic/witchcraft." it's a book of fiction!!! it's fantasy! and as such, is based on the imagination of the writer and the readers. people who practice withcraft don't really wave a wand around and such. and if they do, it's for the symbolic purpose, not b/c they actually believe that wavign a wand will truly accomplish anything. and those that do.. are usually delusional. 5. i think that such books as the hp series, narnia, lotr, etc.. these are wonderful books that allow a child (or adult) to expand their mind, their imagination, their soul. we all need a little escape from reality, and we all need to remember to believe in the unbelievable and impossible. it gives us hope and happiness. 6. lastly.. freedom of speech. she can write whatever she (rowlings) wants. we can all write what we want. it is a basic building block to the foundation of the freedoms (in the united states.. which is where this case is being presented). therefore, it will not pass appeals. and as far as it beign banned in schools... if they're going to pull the hp series, they will need to pull a plethora of other works. though it's happened in the past and is basically in and of itself a witchhunt on literacy! and that very much saddens me! ok... i'll get off my soapbox now *steps down*

Posted by irishseeker Jan 18th 2007

She is determined and thats why I won't be a school librarian anywhere outside of New England because i'd wind up fired for yelling at someone like her. If it was my library i'd take her favorite book off the shelf instead

Posted by trainerjen4 Jan 18th 2007

As a Christian, and a Harry fan; This woman sickens me. God gave us brains to USE, and to make our own choices. If she'd use hers, and actually READ THE BOOKS, she'd see that there's no "real" witchcraft used in the books. Wiccans don't fly on broomsticks, they use wands occasionally, but not for EVERY spell, and they don't "call up demons". If she knew anything about the ACTUAL religion of Wicca, she'd know that they aren't satanists either *rolleyes*. She kills me. What gets me even more is that her whole basis for her argument is that Harry promotes Wicca, and it's a "Separation of Church and State" issue, while she submits "Chronicles of Narnia" (one big Christian metaphor), and the "Left Behind" series (VERY fundamentalist Christian books) as replacements. Um, yeah. Good defense. "The books are really very long, and I don't have the time" TERRIFIC! You've got time to pursue this asnine case, but no time to read a long children's book. Right. Please don't put ALL Christians in the same box as her (I've seen a few comments), most of us don't think like this. Ugh.

Posted by Fighter4Christ88 Jan 18th 2007

Man, this woman just won't give up. I, personally, am a Christian and don't see a thing wrong with the books. I've read 'em all, it's good to use imagination. She should read them before she goes saying they promote evil. I bet she probably would say the Lord of the Rings series were pieces of classic work, though they contain just as much, if not more wizardry, AND they were written by a Christian man. Funny how things happen huh?

Posted by braders101 Jan 18th 2007

That women is the stupidest women i have ever heard off. She is the most hated women to harry potter fans.... she should just quit trying and face the fact that there are more harry potter fans (who are teachers) then there is backing up her. AND SHE AINT EVEN READ THE BOOKS. how dump! How can you say what it does and dont do if you aint read them. She should just grow up and face that she has lost the battle!

Posted by ajohnson Jan 18th 2007

I was shocked to learn that this woman has not even read the HP books! I know that she is obviously nuts, but how can you defend what you believe when you don't even know truly what is in the material?! This is a clear example of total ignorance.

Posted by hermione84 Jan 18th 2007

that is ridiculous for sooooo many reasons. they are totally harmless. i have read all of them and i havent tried to turn my sister into a toad or wash the dishes with the wave of a magic wand.

Posted by redheadlvr16 Jan 18th 2007

This is just insulting!!!! She acts like anyone who reads Harry Potter is going to go to hell!! There's nothing wrong with Harry Potter!! She needs to pick upa book and read it!! She's the diffinition of closed minded!! Don't bag on something until you've tried it!! It sin't the readers who need to have their hearts touched by God! It's anyone who would deny someone something they love, Harry potter isn't hurting anyone!! You don't hear about anyone jumping off their roof with a broom in thier hands do you!!! Laury Mallory...Leave us alone and mind your own closeminded business!

Posted by Hannah_at_Hogwarts Jan 18th 2007

*CRACK* [apparates] What is the definition of insanity? Answer: Repeating the same action over and over expecting a different result. This is the first thing that popped into my head after reading that Ms. Mallory is not putting this to rest and accepting defeat. It saddens me that this woman feels she is the voice of every single Christian out there, she isn't. She should realize that we have the freedom of choosing what to read and believe - she does. Why can't we?

Posted by wandaXmaximoff Jan 18th 2007

What on earth is wrong with this woman? I cannot even begin to list how many points are wrong with her argument. She hasn't read the books- so her opinion is unfouned and if she did read them, she's know that the H.P books do not permote real witchcraft in any form. Plus what happend to freedom of speech and a person's rights to make their own decision. In addition to that, she is wasting valuable court time and money that could be spent on something more productive and she could be using her time to fight for a real cause. All she is doing is making herself look patheric and giving Christians a bad name! 120 people have commented on this alredy, I vote we all stand against her as not only H.P fans but people with commonsence and intelligence!

Posted by NicoleM Jan 18th 2007

The idiot has not even read the books?! She has got to stop.

Posted by anaweasley Jan 18th 2007

that stupid, stupid woman. Why isnt she out there trying to get marylin manson of the bussiness or whatever????? lol, there are ACTUAL stuff that are more harmful than Harry Potter abd she's going after a FICTIONAL BOOK? so what if a kid grabs a stick and says "alohomora!"? is that going to make him evil or something??? Woman please, STOP BEING STUPID! can somebody make this message reach to her??? lol J/K obviously.... i could go on for ever about her stupidity but i'll stop now. Harry Potter for ever!!!! lol

Posted by godsman1985 Jan 18th 2007

I am a strong believing Christian and I LOVE Harry Potter. It in no way promotes witchcraft and it infuriates me to see this woman make all Christians look as stupid as she is.

Posted by Hannah_at_Hogwarts Jan 18th 2007

In addition, how can one truly promote what they believe passionately if they do not have all the information that is needed? Meaning, she hasn't read the books, so how can she honestly believe in her own heart that what she is saying is fact? She can't....the only thing she is accomplishing is making a fool of herself. For her sake, she really needs to let this go and move on. We all know that her efforts will not bring her what she is trying to acheive. Her "threats" are meaningless, have no foundation and she will yet again be defeated. Ms. Mallory, please move on. Thank you. *CRACK* [disapparates]

Posted by anaweasley Jan 18th 2007

btw i agree with mastermike but that kind of show on my previous post cause I said there are other things out there bla bla and I also i agree with godsman1985, same case here, I'm a catholic (meaning I'm also Christian since I belive in Jesus) and I dont see what's the big deal with Harry Potter, seriously! It's a book! A BOOK!!

Posted by loony_luna_lovegood Jan 18th 2007

AHAHAHAHA, she's a nut-case.

Posted by terelinth Jan 18th 2007

I found an article about the lady and the school her children went to. So I found the PTA page of the school and what do you know....She happens to be a member! So I figured since her info was posted it was free for anyone to use. I figure that everone on mugglenet can take some work of god's shoulders by punishing her ourselves....send her your opinions (hate mail), and frustrations. Laura Mallory (770) 736-2707 mallorys6@yahoo .com

Posted by Blossom552 Jan 18th 2007

Why is it only Harry Potter she's got a grudge against? If she's campaigning against 'evil' literature, then probably 3/4 of literature out there should go. Not to mention movies. I makes you wonder how 3 million years of evolution can still produce such unimaginative gits.

Posted by juicebox Jan 18th 2007

What blows my mind is that she is continuing to appeal this after it has been unanimously denied multiple times .... At this point she should have caught on that nothing is going to change unless she approaches new members of the board, but if there aren't any, the ones who are there now are probably going to vote the same, not only becuase they think she's wrong but also because they're annoyed at her wasting their time when they could be doing something useful, like approving budgets for ... I don't know ... books and other things that are useful in the classroom?

Posted by HpAlwaysN4ever Jan 18th 2007

Oh please. She's just wasting her time, again.

Posted by Araminta Jan 18th 2007

People like Ms. Mallory make me sincerely glad I'm not a Christian, which is a sentiment I'm sure I share with a great many others. When you think about that, it sheds an ironic light on what she and people like her are doing. Here they are crusading to have their lifestyle forced down other people's throats, in their minds promoting their faith, while in reality they're only giving people further reason to reject Christianity.

Posted by fire_whiskey Jan 18th 2007

okay, there's this amazing book called "God, the Devil, and Harry Potter". if she won't READ the HP books, then maybe she should at least read that! She's giving Christians a bad name! seriously yall should read that book. it's AMAZING. iMAGiNE what Laura Mallory could do if she had all her brain cells!

Posted by Cimiks352 Jan 18th 2007

"RIDICULOUS! RIDICULOUS!" scream the Washington Post. First of all, I am a devout Christian and I LOVE Harry Potter! I have a personal relationship with Jesus and I LOVE HARRY POTTER! This Lady should read the book "Looking for God in Harry Potter" by John Granger (yes, this Christian totally has Hermione's last name haha) If she read it, she would get some incredible insight into the books and their reflections of Christianity! (There are a lot!) She should read the actual books too. There are no real spells in these books! Like someone previously said, all the spells are just english words translated into Latin. Oh... and does she know that our wonderful JK Rowling is a self professed Presbiterian? (That is a denomination on the Christian Church... That means she is a Christian) I think these radical Christians are giving Christians like me a bad name, and it's pretty sad. God loves you whether you read Harry Potter or not, and these books are certainly not dangerous!

Posted by jeannie22 Jan 18th 2007

Woooowwww... apparently winning 'Idiot of the Year' had absolutely no impact on this woman.

Posted by bethyweasley Jan 18th 2007

what they should do is MAKE her read the books...they should say that they will take the books off the shelves after she has read the books and can prove in an educated manner that they are bad...then she will either fall in love with them or at least have some backup for her drivle

Posted by lumosmaxima Jan 18th 2007

Good grief. I happen to be a Christian, and I would consider myself fairly conservative, but I have no problem with Harry Potter. I also respect the Christians who don't feel comfortable reading Harry Potter, but only if they aren't judgmental about those who do! And I mean come on, Laura hasn't even read the books! In my opinion, she is being an embarrassment to the name of Christianity. I feel sorry for her kids. And I mean, she expects to keep her kids in public school and not have them around the HP books at the same time? Please...

Posted by AnyaMarcos Jan 18th 2007

Terelinth, well done! That is her all right. I recognize the phone number. I was hoping someone would unearth an email address. Let the porn subscriptions begin!

Posted by Cimiks352 Jan 18th 2007

Okay, one more thing that I forgot to add. My Dad is a Priest. HE LOVES HARRY POTTER! Message to Laura Mallory: It's Ooooookay. Just relax.

Posted by GrownUpChick Jan 18th 2007

Those of you on here who say you're Christians and that the HP books are harmless don't get it! People like Mallory(evangelical or born again or whatever she is) don't even believe you folks are real Christians; therefore, your opinions are meaningless. These people don't like the HP books because they have too much imagination. Christian fanatics don't believe in imagination, especially when used by children. To them, all children are supposed to grow up to be good little robots who do only what their parents and their pastors tell them to do. They are afraid of anything that's popular because, oh horrors!, it might actually be a little more popular with their kids than the bible! Besides, Mallory is now only in this for the publicity. Now that she is getting money from people she'll never give up her pointless fight. In a way, I can't wait until Jesus comes back because he's going to be really mad about the stupid stuff that gets carried out in his name(wars, televangelism, book-burnings, etc.).

Posted by SeducedByADream Jan 18th 2007

Ok, so. I really don't like this woman. She kind of PISSES ME OFF. Honestly- she's a LOSER. I just want to throw something at her. Nothing to "hurt" her, mind you. Just something to, oh I don't know, knock some sense into her. haha... But anywho. Whoever commented before saying that WICCA is a religion is right. but you spelt it wrong. sorry. I am anul. But yeah, she needs to stop..... ...like right now... ok, I'll stop now.

Posted by TonkyTonks Jan 18th 2007

this lady really needs to get a grip..these books are fiction, how do they promote witchcraft when witchcraft is considered to be associated with hurting people through the actions of spells and being associated with the devil, if she wants to ban potter books she needs to consider banning alot more then these, these are childrens stories....GET A GRIP!!!OR EVEN BETTER GET A HOBBY!!

Posted by laylology Jan 18th 2007

hmm...who agrees with me that this laura women should be sent to the loony hospital asap? promoting witchcraft? oh yes, espicially when they celebrate CHRISTMAS and EASTER in the books! i suppose reading the books would be out of the question. kudos to you, laura mallory, for making an utter fool of yourself. again.

Posted by AnyaMarcos Jan 18th 2007

Araminta, fellow proud non-Christian right here! Scary, scary religion.

Posted by soccerluver13 Jan 18th 2007

Ohmygod. She needs to give this up and get a life. Seriously. People like this annoy me.

Posted by WeasleyIsOurKing Jan 18th 2007

ummm... it seems like she cares about this more than her own children at the moment... her kids must be embarrassed to have a mom like that...

Posted by Cimiks352 Jan 18th 2007

I agree with "GrownUpChick" I know firsthand that a lot of "radical Christians" don't consider me a christian for the sole purpose that I like Harry Potter a lot! It makes me angry. It's So frustrating! I also agree with you (GrownUpChick) that it probably makes Jesus really angry that things like wars, televangelism, book-burnings, etc are carried out in His name. For example. Jesus did NOT give ANYBODY permission to start wars. He also didn't give people like Laura Mallory (or anyone for that matter) permission to judge me (or anyone for that matter!) My point stands. I LOVE HARRY POTTER and LAURA NEEDS TO LOOSEN UP A BIT!
