Laura Mallory to appeal yet again
Laura Mallory, the mother who has been crusading since August 2005 to remove the Potter books from the County's school libraries, is set to appeal to the County's Superior Court the decision Georgia state made in December to keep the books on shelves.

Mallory said, "We will take a stand for truth, and pray God will touch the hearts of this generation." For the past year and a half, she has vehemently preached that the books indoctrinate children in witchcraft. She hasn't, however, actually read the books.

Mallory says she is poised to take legal action and has apparently received "significant donations" from "supporters" in aid of this.

Emerson's Comment: Ever seen a fly crash itself repeatedly into a transparent pane of glass, never quite getting the hint? Yeah.

Oh good grief, this is utterly ridiculous. We're sending more troops to die in Iraq, California is nearly bankrupt, the economy is in complete disarray, our schools are dilapidated messes, and what is this woman devoting her time and money protesting? Books she's never read! Great job genius! Cancel this year's Idiot of the Year contest, it's already over. It's Laura Mallory by a landslide. The Christians in this thread need not fear, she's not making me hate you. She's making me hate her. I wanna find out where she lives and send her a complete set of the books and tell her I'm helping her in her crusade by making her informed.

Posted by Nikki_85 Jan 18th 2007

OMG, this woman just can't take a hint can she? How many times has she lost her appeals now? Why doesn't she just give up?? And by the way, Mrs Mallory, READ THE BOOKS BEFORE YOU MAKE A JUDGEMENT ON THEM!

Posted by Barms Jan 18th 2007

I love you, Emerson!

Posted by joanna Jan 18th 2007

friggin' idiot!

Posted by christianaeg Jan 18th 2007

oh my gosh... DOES SHE NOT GET IT??? YOU DON'T GO UP AGAINST ONE OF THE BIGGEST FRANCHISES AROUND THE WORLD! lolol i'm really laughing again... if she doesn't want her kids to read the books, fine! don't make everyone else to the same thing! man...

Posted by Dan21 Jan 18th 2007

Ever seen a fly crash itself repeatedly into a transparent pane of glass, never quite getting the hint? Yeah. Yeah. Hello , Idiot of the Year, miss 2007. Back to back titles. CONGRATS!

Posted by mandi Jan 18th 2007

can i just hit her over the head with a shovel? it's people like this that really get on my nerves...

Posted by theQzone27 Jan 18th 2007

you know, someone like her should actually R E A D the books before she makes a statement that the books are evil or promote witchcraft of any kind. i wish i could reach through the computer and just slap her silly. LOL!! alex

Posted by GrownUpChick Jan 18th 2007

Cimiks352, thanks for your comments. It really annoys me that some people who would consider themselves "born again" could be so narrow-minded. They say they're Christians but they seem incapable of being like Jesus(forgiving, loving, tolerant, etc.) I just wish this woman would find another way to get her face on television. Why doesn't she audition for one of those s-called "reality" shows?

Posted by Kharina Jan 18th 2007

"Poised for legal action"? How can she be, when she hasn't even read what she's condemning? I'd also like to agree with another poster, who said by trying to ban them she makes the material more attractive to her children. Absoulutely right. Still, she is determined in doing what she believes to be right, I suppose that's to her credit. Although you'd think if she was that determined she would READ them.

Posted by fuzzyslippersx23 Jan 18th 2007

how many appeals has happened now? hm? and how many has she won? hm? take a hint laura mallory. ihearthp. :]

Posted by basteed Jan 18th 2007

She will never win if she doesn't do her homework, ie, reading the book. This woman really pisses me off...she has NO right to tell other parents what their kids should read. Absolutely no right. If she thinks the books are bad for her kids, that's fine; but other parents are just as capable of raising their kids. A good parents will teach their kids the difference between fiction and nonfiction, and every kid should be able to use his or her imagination. The Harry Potter books have really good morals and teach valuable lessons and demonstrate values and virtues that kids should learn. She doesn't realize this though because she hasn't even read the books. And on top of ALL that...she's making other Christians look bad by speaking for all Christians.

Posted by lunaLOVEGOODisCOOL Jan 18th 2007

OH MY GOD I totally agree with Emerson's comment. I wonder where she got the "significant funds" from. Hmmmm. As I read in another comment, who cares if 8year-olds run around with plastic wands pretendin to be their favourite characters? HP isn't exactly devil worship is it? This particular rainbow llama is mystified by this woman...

Posted by juicebox Jan 18th 2007

I would just like to appeal to any and all of you who think that it is a good idea to spam her with porn subscriptions or call her at home and to harass her. News flash: it's not a good idea. It also makes you look just as bad as she does. Yeah, that info is public domain, but it's up to the public to put it to use in an educated, mature manner.

Posted by Nikki_85 Jan 18th 2007

Ok, i would quite like to meet this woman. I want to tel her a little story about how HP is a GOOD influence on kids. I lost my younger brother in an accident 3 months ago. He was 17 years old, and a huge HP fan like myself. About 4 years ago, we discovered our shared love of all things HP, and as a consequence became a lot closer than we ever had been. We saw all the movies together several times, we discussed theories about Snape, and whether he was evil, (NO!) and we even wrote our own story about Snape. It took us two years, but it was two years of fun and often hysterical laughter. My brother wasn't a big reader but he always made an exception for HP. I don't have my brother any more, but thanks to JKR I have many happy memories of the time we spent together and laughed so much. HP brought us together, and some bigot like Mrs Mallory is effectively condemning those memories i have, by saying it is evil. There are many evils in this world, but Harry Potter certainly isn't one of them.

Posted by GrownUpChick Jan 18th 2007

Kharina, she wouldn't dare read the books now! If she did, she'd have to admit that they're not harmful, as she's been lead to believe by her pastor and those narrow-minded folks on the websites she's visited. How sad that this woman doesn't understand one thing...going into battle unarmed is not exactly a good way to win your war. Oh, epsilonic...well said!

Posted by Tarhisie Jan 18th 2007

What an annoying crazy b****. Seriously. Just go die somewhere.

Posted by The_Scifanac Jan 18th 2007

Well, you gotta appreciate one thing about the woman, she is persistant and devoted to her beliefs. But she has no right to censor evrybody from persuing their liesurely litterary interests, just becasue she finds them offensive, It's called provisions of the bill of rights, deal with it. Thats my calm and considerate response. Here's what I really think. fudge OFF, girl!!!!!

Posted by polkadots56 Jan 18th 2007

i have two words: holy crap.

Posted by Lekonua Jan 18th 2007

Oh...my...god...Ban Harry Potter! No. Ban Harry Potter! No! I wonder if the court is allowed to tell her to shut up about the satanic books of withcraftery so they can deal with REAL crimes committed by REAL criminals?

Posted by pants_lover Jan 18th 2007

I just don't understand why she thinks she has the right to control what other kids can and cannot read. She has no business as to what other kids have access to. If she wants her kids not to read the books, that is fine. But it is wrong to try to take them away from other children.

Posted by remylefay Jan 18th 2007

Aye-aye to that, Emerson! In fact, I think she could even be called... DELUSIONAL! Hahaha. Mallory- the new Harmony. ROFL. *rlf*

Posted by TreRadical Jan 18th 2007

ugh this is an on-going battle that she will never win. JKR doesn't force kids to believe the harry potter series. and if she took the time to read it she would see that. man i would hate to be her kid.

Posted by felixfelicis888 Jan 18th 2007

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA- Oh my gosh lady, if you ACTUALLY READ the books, maybe you will be able to get a life. Although I thought that title of 'Idiot of the Year' was harsh, you seriously need to give up. Remember what she said Harry Potter led kids to do? Blood rituals, hating god and jesus and other stuff like that. well I don't know any HP fans that have done anything of the sort. And thats one thing I hate- when people think Harry Potter is for little kids.I guess they formed that belief becuase the movies were directed towards kids. But we all know that HP is past the kids only stage. A kid has to be really dumb to somehow learn blood rituals or hating god from HP. I LOVE HARRY POTTER. and mugglenet :)

Posted by Lekonua Jan 18th 2007

She must be going to another Idiot of the Year award.

Posted by MaraudersFan13 Jan 18th 2007

Bloody hell, not again! Has she not found out she is idiot of the YEAR! All of this is starting to give me a head ache. She should go back and crawl under the rock she has been living under her whole life. I wish I could type what I would like to say to her but sadly nobody likes to hear that kindof lanugage.

Posted by MargaretLouise Jan 18th 2007

GET A LIFE. READ THE BOOKS. ACTUALLY BACK UP YOUR STATEMENTS WITH PROOF. HOW ABOUT THE LARGEST BOOK FANBASE IN THE WORLD ALL SAYING THAT THEY HAVE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH WITCHCRAFT IN THE PAST, PRESENT, OR PROBABLY IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE OF HARRY POTTER? I REPEAT, GET A LIFE. I THINK EMERSON SAID IT BEST. BUT THEN AGAIN, HE IS THE LEADER OF US ALL. THE CRAZED POTTER FREAKS. WE HAVE HIM TO BOW DOWN TO.

Posted by hpmaniac Jan 18th 2007

Idiot of the decade anyone?

Posted by arourarose Jan 18th 2007

This woman is so stupid. Has she not figured out that A.if you tell someone not to do it then they will want to do it more and b. SHES NOT GOING TO WIN

Posted by hermyown7777 Jan 18th 2007

what an idiot! this lady is so stupid! and she hasnt even read the books herself!!!!! if she doesnt want her kids reading harry potter whatever but other parents can figure out whats rite for there own kids. GGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

Posted by SiriusGirl Jan 18th 2007

God have mercy on her for being so stupid. I'm pretty sure He KNOWS the books don't PROMOTE witchcraft in the ways she believes they do. Otherwise, wouldn't HE have done something? She really needs to get a life. She's so concerned about her children, but what kind of a life will they have now; their mother has the title and reputation of 'Idiot of the Year' and with all these appeals, when will they get family time? Emerson, you said it best! And we love you for it! By the way; I am a CHRISTIAN and I LOVE God and Jesus. I would never worship Satan. But I am ALSO a diehard Potter fan.

Posted by Kenzi Jan 18th 2007

Mallory said, "We will take a stand for truth, and pray God will touch the hearts of this generation." Just a hint lady...He already has...Its called: HARRY POTTER!

Posted by DarshniM Jan 18th 2007

Has anyone ever read the book Fahrenheit 451? Doesn't this remind you of that in a way? Censorship of books because it "offends" a certain group of people. If the Board of Education in the county actually approves this, I'll be shocked, as its so blatantly unconstitutional.

Posted by nfpotter Jan 18th 2007

hmmm good comment by emerson!! haha oh well hopefully she will see the light... probably not but ya no

Posted by muggleotter Jan 18th 2007

you think she'd eventualy get the idea that it is never going to work and she should keep her bloody opains to her slef and let people do what they want I HATE PEOPLE LIKE HER! who try and force their ideas on every one elses if you don't like it don't read it (oh yeah she didn't so how doses she know what she is even talking about) i loved escaping's coment it was hilairous and sssooooo true

Posted by PotterChickFoSho Jan 18th 2007

THIS IS RIDICULOUS. get over it women.

Posted by Luna_sees_thestrals Jan 18th 2007

oh, thats so said Nikki_85!she really does need to get a life!Shes making us christians look bad. i agree with a lot of the comments on the first page.

Posted by hp_lover1312 Jan 18th 2007

its good thats she standing up for her religion, but maybe, if she actually read the books then MAYBE she would finally realize that theyre not bad at all! then again, maybe shes just crazy!

Posted by GrownUpChick Jan 18th 2007

What really kills me is that she said "We will take a stand for truth...". What truth? Whose truth? What on earth could she possibly mean by this? Does she mean the "truth" according to Stephen Dollins and other narrow-minded fools? We need to find out when and where this next appeal will take place and make sure some local HP fans attend. Instead of letting this woman get all the publicity, Gwinnett County HP fans need to unite and go get some of that for themselves and the rest of us HP fans. Let your voices be heard, too! Do your best to contradict her lies.

Posted by SiriusGirl Jan 18th 2007

We should show her the Constitution. ALSO. If she doesn't trust her children and herself to withstand the 'evil' of Harry Potter and therefore won't allow them to read it, she must not be such a strong Chrsitian after all. Jesus forgives all of us if we repent. (Eventually) YE OF LITTLE FAITH...

Posted by iamhouseelf Jan 18th 2007

What a persistant person, even though she's persueing the wrong thing

Posted by Katiepoo Jan 18th 2007

I agree with anyone who says that she is trying to control what books we read, if you have a problem with the books, don't allow your family members to read the books, it's that simple!! What next she's going to start asking that all fiction books that she doesn't agree with, to be removed from shelves, and whoever writes them, or reads them, will go to jail, because they read a book, that people are againts. HELLO THESE ARE FICTION BOOKS. The only thing that she is doing, is making people want to read the Harry Potter series who haven't What do we have to do elect her the list of idiots again? If she is against Harry Potter, does she let her kids go trick or treating, believe in Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny? My 4th grade teacher introduced me to the Harry Potter books, and because of her I fell in love with reading.

Posted by gryffindorcutie91 Jan 18th 2007

The Harry Potter books are great books for kids because it sparks kids imaginations and actually makes them want to read. Personally, I think the lady is doing it for attention because for some reason she wants to be the only person in the WORLD who hates Harry Potter.

Posted by cat_lover Jan 18th 2007

So...in the article it says she has a potential expert witness. I'm curious to know who this mystery "expert" is. Someone who has read the books, or just another idoit with a title? "Mr. Expert of Stupidity"

Posted by hplover4ever84 Jan 18th 2007

this woman never gives up...i feel so sorry for ppl that live in the same school district as this woman...if i HAD kids i would move away immediately...i wouldn't even let her take control of my kids' lives...besides this woman should HONESTLY read the books...she's never gonna win...well someday when i'm married and have children of my own...i'm definitely letting them read the books...afterall i started reading the books at age 15 and been a big fan for 7 years and proud of it...

Posted by roadtripkaraoke Jan 18th 2007

You're entitled to your opinion but for the love of Jesus, woman, let it die. I agree with what someone else said, I feel so sorry for her kids right now.

Posted by Katiepoo Jan 18th 2007

We should start a petition already electing her to the idiots list. or The people in the county or state that she lives in should start a petition against her, i bet that it would get a lot of backing.

Posted by IAteUmbridge Jan 18th 2007

Again?! Didn't being named Idiot of the Year give her a hint at all?

Posted by I_am_Zim Jan 18th 2007

Go Emerson, I have to give her credit for her crusade, but this has to be one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Some one should tell her that a person's opinion is void unless they have read and or expirence what they are going against.

Posted by Runescape Jan 18th 2007

Ok, has the woman not seen the "Wizard of Oz?" there is witchcraft in that. But you don't see Mrs.Mallory breathing down the necks of them. Lord of the Rings has some witchcraft... The only reason Mallory is doing this is for attention. She singled out Harry Potter because it is widely known and she knows she'll get her name in lights (For the Wrong Reasons)
