Laura Mallory to appeal yet again
Laura Mallory, the mother who has been crusading since August 2005 to remove the Potter books from the County's school libraries, is set to appeal to the County's Superior Court the decision Georgia state made in December to keep the books on shelves.
Mallory said, "We will take a stand for truth, and pray God will touch the hearts of this generation." For the past year and a half, she has vehemently preached that the books indoctrinate children in witchcraft. She hasn't, however, actually read the books.
Mallory says she is poised to take legal action and has apparently received "significant donations" from "supporters" in aid of this.
Emerson's Comment: Ever seen a fly crash itself repeatedly into a transparent pane of glass, never quite getting the hint? Yeah.

Haha!! Emerson, you hit the nail right on the head!! That is an awesome metaphor! Anyway, totally getting sick of this woman! *rolling of eyes and a sigh of all sighs*
to azazel (and JEngle1122)- JEngle1122 is right, you can't possibly say that christians are all the same, that's like me saying that all non-christians are the same or that, say, all english people are the same, and then bringing out a bad trait of a few of them like being rapists and then saying that that's how they all are. thats how prejudice works. and its just not true. jk rowling writes about prejudice and what effects it has on her characters, like harry and lupin. dont you have a better reason why you're not a christian?
*CRACK* [apparates] Okay, so this thought occured to me: Mallory is upset (one of the things she is upset about) is that children will be running around waving plastic wands screaming "Alohomora!" or "Lumos" to light up their wands or something, right? Let me ask you what that role playing will do to the child? Stimulate his imagination? Yes, that is absolutely dreadful and will not be tolerated!!!! So let's flip the table, take the bible for instance - Jesus' crucifixion to be exact. Would she rather see children running around flogging the one who is "it" dragging a wooden cross around? Hey, how about nailing the kid up to the cross and stabbing him with a spear!!! Yes, that will work. Oh wait, that isn't what you (Mallory) mean? Really? As I've said before, Christianity as a religion is full of hypocracy. I don't mean to offend Christians out there, I am not saying that any one person of the Christian faith is a hypocrit, but the religion certainly is. When Christianity began, it was forced down the throats of Pagens to be the ONLY acceptable religion, yet they took Pagen Holidays and made them their own - why? To lure Pagens to Christianity...it is a scary, scary religion.
AGAIN!?!?! God will touch the hearts of NO ONE to get rid of Harry Potter! She and her "supporters" need to get over themselves and stop trying to inhibit the freedom of others to read what they want! So just tell YOUR kids not to read it! There's no need to make millions of people across the world infuriated with you! All she's doing is making a fool of herself. And a big "AMEN!!" to Emerson's comment. She IS like that fly... annoying, persistant, can't seem to learn from the past, and pretty much despised by all those with any sense. Jeez.
It is unbelievable that someone would react so strongly against something they have not even bothered to read! She's probably deluded into thinking that Harry Potter readers take home messages like "join the occult, practice witchcraft, worship the devil". If she did read the books she would be dissappointed to discover that the hidden messages in Harry Potter are "stick at it, trust and value your friends, family is important". Oh, I'm sorry - aren't these in line with Christian ideals?
OH MY FREAKIN GOD!!!! WHEN WILL SHE TAKE A HINT AND REALIZE SHE IS NOT GOING TO WIN THIS THING?!?!?!?!?!?!
friggin' IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stupid Gwinnett woman. She's giving every single one of us Georgians dirty names. If she doesn't want her kids to read the books, fine, homeschool them and lock them up from society so that when they're thirty they can go to a psychologist due to severe lack of socializing. I mean, what is she trying to prove here? Has it not occurred to her that this is NEVER going to work? Is she just trying to get some fame? I've never heard celebrities earning their movie career over "the book-burning equivalence" of controversy. In quite a reasonable amount, I heard their punishment was stoning them. And I know for a fact that I'm not alone when I say that if you want to get rid of something, you might care to see what's actually in that certain thing, ie: book, reading said book. I mean, who reviews a movie they've never seen before? Metaphorically speaking, of course.
hannah_at_hogwarts- its very very true that people calling themselves christians have done some scary things, but quite honestly i dont think you can say that the matter is at all the same now as it was hundreds of years ago. no-one is forced to be a christian in our society. the majority of christians today are more concerned about what it says in matthew about what you do for others you do for jesus. and about what you say about the bible- if anyone were to read a history book about the holocaust, or vietnam then theyd get some pretty horrific images from there too. its because people did that stuff to each other. those kind of images are everywhere. anyway, this is one woman and her opinions and you seem to have taken it as an insult from the whole of the christian faith.
On the plus side, however, the first news story didn't even bother to mention her name. Showed a fantastic amount of the books, though. I suppose whoever wrote the lineup for the evening was a tizzy bit of a fan. The second news story called her Laurie. Ha.
SOME ONE SHOULD USE ONE OF THE UNFORGIVEABLE CURES ON!!!!! HOW DARE SHE INSALT THE NAME OF HARRY POTTER!!!!!!!!
SOME ONE SHOULD USE ONE OF THE UNFORGIVEABLE CURES ON!!!!! HOW DARE SHE INSALT THE NAME OF HARRY POTTER!!!!!!!!
AGHHHH!!! WILL SHE JUST QUIT IT??!!! Okay, now that I've let off some steam... Kids, teens, adults, people of all ages love Harry Potter, get over it Mallory. And let me just tell you that no family has been traumatised because their six-year-old is walking around with a fake wand saying "Wingardium Leviosa" or something...
The fly point is -snorts- right. PLEASE, WOMAN, STOP HURTING YOURSELF! Although, yes, I'm glad you're fighting for your beliefs but man. How many times do they have to tell you that THEY WANT TO KEEP THE FLIPPING BOOKS!? Good books mind you.
I think all this hater stuff and comments about her aren't going to solve anything- don't get me wrong, it is a great way to vent frustration about the whole thing, and I agree with emerson- but when we start talking about what we'd all like to do if we met her in a dark alley... let's just understand her folly and move on... we've established the fact that she isnt quite right, can we move on?
For those who completely missed the point of what I said, here it is again. "It is this kind of thing that makes people hate Christianity." I didn't say that I did. Stupid people like Laura Mallory make people hate Christians and Christianity because it groups them all into one group, thinking that all Christians are as moronic as she is.
Seriously... what's wrong with her. She's never read this thing, and here she is, appealing again. What is going to finally stop her? She's just going to keep appealing!
SERIOUSLY, woman!!! Don't you ever get TIRED of being SEVERELY humiliated, defeated, made fun of, scorned, etc.etc.???? Your BRAIN has PROBLEMS. READ the friggin BOOKS, will you?! And "We will take a stand for truth, and pray God will touch the hearts of this generation," seriously? do you even UNDERSTAND what you just SAID? Another thing: 'significant' amounts of donations from your SUPPORTERS? Well I must have been transported to some parallel world overnight, cause you DEFINITELY do NOTNOTNOTNOOOOOOOT have supporters on this mad craze of yours.
Ha. Dang. Good laughs.
omg she needs to get a grip! what is it going to take to get through to that woman?! i give her credit for keeping up fighting for what she believes in, but jeez, enoughs enough! shes fighting a losing battle and needs to wise up! if she had actually read the books, she wouldnt be trying to remove them!! just because you dont like something doesnt mean it should be banned! move on, put your effort into something actually worth changing! love emersons comment by the way! :)
In the words of Hermione: "What an idiot!"
If reading Harry Potter sent me to hell the devil would probably just kick me out again. I'll tell you why Mallory: Harry Potter teaches kids that things like friendship, loyalty, and love are above all. And things like prejudice is bad. Honestly, people like her make Christianity seem like such a big hypocrisy. I'm not saying that it is, but people like her preach that Christianity is the only acceptable religion to have. I'm not Christian, I guess that makes me evil, and I like Harry Potter, even worse...
OHHH MY GOSH STUPID LADY JUST GIVE IT UP ALL READY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! S he is sooo stupid 2 keep goin like this!! Ok first of all HP does not promote any kind of witchcraft! The only people that it would actually try 2 do this is people that have somethin already messed up in their head. I mean seriously whos gonna go outside n practice witchcraft, besides the most u can do with a wand is probably poke someones eyes out. Geez how do people kill themselves anyway by practicing witchcraft its not like it actually works so how the heck do they kill their selves?!?! This is a FICTION book its NOT REAL!! And its not like HP is the only book that has witchcraft in it. If u get rid of HP books in Georgia u might as well get rid of The Lord of the Rings,The Hobbit and even some Disney books cuz they have magic in them too. SO LAURA MALLORY U MIGHT AS WELL JUST GIVE UP U STUPID LADY WHO JUST WASTES URS N EVERYONE ELSES TIME OBVIOUSLY U HAVE NO LIFE IF UR GONNA KEEP TRING 2 GET RID OF THE HP BOOKS! She lost all of the appeals soo far wut makes her think she's gonna win this one......... HP ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*laughs* I find her attempts amusing. She'll never win against HP. I don't think she has even a small chance of winning, unless she raised some huge army against the books, but that would just be stupid, and I don't think the ratio of HP lovers:HP haters is even close to being equal. I wonder what she'd do if her children ever read an HP book.. disown them, probably. I am so glad she's not my mother.
JKR isn't an anti-god crusader.. ugh! It's like the 'tall poppy syndrome' when someone does something good, like JKR, people have to pull them down. It's so weird, but i suppose she wouldn't read any of this because she wouldn't come to a harry potter site to actually SEE what it's all about. I think she is a fundamentalist. P.S. does she have kids? Sad if so.
fi_the_fairynymph: I appreciate your comments but I'd like to point out that you said no one is forcing anyone to be a Christian these days....Hmmmm what about all those books that are on the stands now that advocate if you do not believe in God and Christianity, you are going to hell? In order to go to heaven you have to believe in God. Um, isn't that considered forcing, persay? I think it is, but that is my opinion. Have I taken what this woman has done personally? No, not at all. I also stated that it isn't Christian people who are hypocrits, I feel that it is the religion itself that is. Everyone is entitled to follow whatever faith they choose to. They are also entitled to their opinion. When it comes to that, I do not mind stupid and ignorant people (Mallory for instance) having a say in a public debate as long as intelligent and knowledgeable people have the last and final word. :) Thank you again for your comment, I appreciate it.
Quote by Tonia:"She is doing such a disservice to Christianity. There is a website called "gracethrufaith.com" and the Bible teacher on there has an awesome response to a parent worried about evil Harry Potter. It's pretty much what we've all been saying all along, but it is nice to hear from a religious person who has the calming and rational influence of the Holy Spirit guiding him. We as Christians should save our energy and sense of urgency for things that really matter, i.e. salvation, and stop wasting our time on extreme behavior for causes not related directly to that. HP is a fantasy, children raised in well-grounded environment will be able to distinguish fantasy from reality. If this woman is raising her children with true Christian values, they will be able to read and enjoy HP with no damage and she will have nothing to worry about. If she forbids it, she makes the material more attractive to her children. She'd be better off allowing them to read it if they want to, and then discuss the material with them, voicing her concerns." End Quote. Honestly, this pretty much sums up my feelings. Also, hasn't she heard of 'Don't judge a book by its cover,"? Along with that is this, from the Bible. John 7:24, "Stop judging by mere appearances, and make right judgement." Personally, I think that Laura Mallory ought not to keep trying to force her views on others. If she wants to keep her children from reading them, then that is fine, but she should not be trying to control other parents. The time will come when her children will need to decide for themselves. They need to be able to venture out. I feel extremely sorry for her children. I think that they should be allowed to make some choices for themselves. Freedom is from reading, and J.K. opens the door into a wonderful land of opportunity. J.K. has given so many people hope, no matter their life situation, and the desire to create their own literary work. J.K. I salute you!!!! HP means so much to me!!!
Man, she doesnt know when to quit. I say never quit, but in this case, she has no chance because she got NO support in her last attempt. She needs to shut up and leave it alone. Mugglenet, you guys to a fantastic job, errors are bound to happen once in a while. Keep up the good work!
I felt bad for her when she was named Idiot of the Year but if she keeps this up...she's practically begging people to insult her. Please lady give it up. You will NOT win.
She's a tool! Get the hint woman, you're the one who's goin' tuh hell!!!!!!
WHAT A GIT!!! This woman is an absolute maniac and should be locked in an asylum. Okay, I can understand that she doesn't like Harry Potter and it may go against her religious and moral beliefs and that is totally fine. However, what gives here the right to decide whether hp books should be on school library shelves. Her belief shouldn't affect other people or children that don't entertain the same beliefs. If she really believes that Harry Potter is in some way 'evil' then she should ban the books from being read by her own children and instill that idea in them and leave everone else alone. And finally I must add once again, WHAT A GIT!
hannah_at_hogwarts- well, the reason christians say they are christians is because they believe in jesus and if you want to put it quite generally, follow christianity, so if your saying that you think christianity is hypocritical you are pretty much saying something against christians. but im glad you dont find christian people on the whole to be hypocrites. i also wouldnt say that writing books about your faith and beliefs is forcing other people to believe them or follow them. a person can read objectively, if they couldnt then the world would be pretty messed up (or more so anyway!) i can see where you're coming from cos all kinds of things can be influencial but then thats the point, people are influenced by a great many things, it dont think it means that they dont know their own minds. i really dont think that what laura mallory is doing is intelligent or helpful either, but clearly thats what she believes and you cant tell people what to believe. i wish she'd read the books though!
she has gone from stupid to just plain sad in my book. Can't she find anything else to do wth her time?
Okey she needs to read the books because she hasnt, and then she might have room to talk. she has no idea whats in those books, and just watching the movies are not good enough because they are not the same. i feel bad for her kids. i would hate to have a mother like that.
WILL THIS LADY EVER STOP!!!???
This is so stupid. Imagination is not a sin. God isn't going to punish anyone, or look down upon anyone that reads or watches movies about magic.
"oh--but preserverence is a virtue; strange and diliberate she tries for her cause- only to realize that there is an empty case, a broken assumption. Preservere nce has no virtue unless the cause itself is pure and virtuous." I almost feel bad for that woman. delirious much?
*dies laughing* Priceless, Emerson, priceless. I appreciate your ability to make us laugh at a situation that seems, at first, very unfunny. :) Anyway, so she hasn't learned her lesson, huh? I'm betting this goes all the way up to the Supreme Court and she loses. One can only hope.
you know this lady would have made a good umbridge.
Once upon a time, I'm sure she had a life, she just needs to let it go...She's like a nat that won't go away.
"This is so stupid. Imagination is not a sin. God isn't going to punish anyone, or look down upon anyone that reads or watches movies about magic." Exactly! READING and WATCHING are not serious, it is only imitating (Not including saying Accio! once in a while, obviously), or worshiping, that may be a problem. Imagination is not a sin! (For christians, at least. I do not know much about other religions, sorry if I'm offending anyone!)
Here is yet another example of how muddled thinking starts unnecessary conflict between people. It's saddening when you realize how many people there are out there like her, unwilling to listen to reasoned objections to their actions. Instead of clear thinking, she is basing her outrageous campaign on half-formulated fears and false information. Oh well, her only achievement as far as I know is to ruin her own credibility.
Emerson's Comment: Ever seen a fly crash itself repeatedly into a transparent pane of glass, never quite getting the hint? Yeah. lol Emerson your so right! This women needs to take the hint! I mean, does she really think she can go up against ALL us HP fans?! I mean honestly! I'm a christian and the HP books have done nothing to me! Cause their FICTION! This women needs a life.
she needs to read the books before assuming these things. that devill wommannn. gosh DOES SHE SERIOUSLY HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO?!?!?!
Emerson,I Lol when I read your commet. You ROCK!! This woman is so annoying. Will she ever laern. I think not.
frankly, if there is a hell, then reading these "evil" books is the least of my worries.
what is going through this woman's brain? does she even have a brain? (no) also: my parents and i are catholics AND harry potter fans, AND GUESS WHAT ELSE? the PRIEST at our CHURCH is a HARRY POTTER FAN too!! NO I AM NOT KIDDING!!!! and it's ok is she tortures-i mean teaches-her own poor kids, BUT STOP TELLING OTHER KIDS WHAT THEY CAN AND CAN'T READ!! duh.
It is because of her, and people like her that there are problems in the world. I pity those who have to see her on a daily basis or, for that matter, even live within a 500 mile radius of her.
I have only one thing to say to her since she won't listen to reason. I'll try to appeal to her dominant nature: Get thee behind me, Satan. *Translation* You stinketh Laura Mallory. Go have tea with Pastor Becky Fisher and leave us the hell alone!
i luvd emersons comment. #300!!! well, at least im not a fly.
