Laura Mallory to appeal yet again
Laura Mallory, the mother who has been crusading since August 2005 to remove the Potter books from the County's school libraries, is set to appeal to the County's Superior Court the decision Georgia state made in December to keep the books on shelves.

Mallory said, "We will take a stand for truth, and pray God will touch the hearts of this generation." For the past year and a half, she has vehemently preached that the books indoctrinate children in witchcraft. She hasn't, however, actually read the books.

Mallory says she is poised to take legal action and has apparently received "significant donations" from "supporters" in aid of this.

Emerson's Comment: Ever seen a fly crash itself repeatedly into a transparent pane of glass, never quite getting the hint? Yeah.

AGAIN? Someone has nothing to do in their lives. Seriously, its not like we all go home and do witchcraft when we go home. Can guys do witchcraft? hmm. Ya isn't like the government dudes going to like get tired of her or something. She obviously covets someone elses popularity...which is a sin. Like I'm Catholic and just because people like me read Harry Potter more than the Bible she has to like flip out. Take EL CHILL PILL. Is there a way to make h.p. an untouchable book. That might save the newspaper companies some INK!

NOT AGAIN?! GOD SHE IS THE MOST IDIOTIC PERSON I KNOW!

Posted by Ticci Jan 18th 2007

She prays that "God will touch the hearts of this generation." God already has... by inspiring J.K. Rowling to write a masterpiece series of books that has broken all literary records, bonded the entire world in a story; something politics and religion have historically, consistently, and continuously failed to do. Yet people have read Harry Potter from all over the world, ALL age groups, every race, ethnicity and culture. Laura Mallory, you're making a complete fool of yourself. Save your opinions for yourself and your family and let others do as they choose ~ anticipate the last book of the series with shaking, trembling, calendar- ripping, nail-biting anticipation!!!

I would love to have her life. I mean I have a job and have to work. Then go home and take for of my family. I wish I could spend everyday of my life writing injunctions and appeals. But I am part of the real world. In the real when we have time to rest we pick up a good book, maybe something that will help us escape and believe that good can win over evil. Oh wait lets try those nice Harry Potter book! Get a life women. I hear that there are alot of foundations that could use people to collect donations and help prevent cancer, protect abused children, etc. Lois

She is an idiot! She hasn't even read the books so she doesn't even know what they are really about. It isn't all witchcraft and bad stuff. Kids aren't going to join a cult or something. She does have the right not to read the books and she even has the right to not allow her kid(s) to read the books, until a time. But she has no right to take away others rights in reading the books! And besides, teh Harry Potter books are not the only books out there that have magic in them. It's like she is trying the ban the Harry Potter books because they are the most known(beside Lord of the Rings) and it will give her more publicity or something. There are other things actually WORTH SOMEONE'S TIME TO FIGHT OVER. This is getting old. She needs to redirect her attention to something else. Nothing on this matter will change. She needs to get over herself.

Posted by ickle_diddykins Jan 18th 2007

I wish she would quit trying to ban the Harry Potter books and move to Vermont where her time could be put to much better use trying to fix the corrupt legal system. There, they are letting heinous criminals (child molesters) go with only probation and treatment. Seriously, what's more important? Ickle_diddykins, the voice of reason in a sea of emotional tumult and political posturing.

This reminds me of the students and parents at my high school who spout off about the lack of evidence for the theory of evolution when almost all of them have the sniffles of the common cold (exactly the proof needed that evolution is indeed in action and among us!) And if friendship, loyalty, making the 'right', but not easy choice, and vowing to fight unfairness in the (wizarding) world isn't Christian, I don't know what this woman, and the people like her, want to see available in (children's) literature. Again, for any Potter/Rowling critic, my answer: "Read the books!" And if then, and only then, if do you not understand that the theme of the series is not witchcraft, I can only suggest that you learn to read analytically by going back and working on your education.

omg this women is CRAZY! omg and she hasnt even read the book and is critizing it! omgah! ms. mallory..is a crazy, idiotic, women who doesnt think straight! jeez..

Yeh, well... CRUCIO!! AVADA KEDAVRA!! There we go.

Posted by whalekk Jan 18th 2007

I can't believe someone can sue someone only according to their own opinion especially a book which she never read! I think Harry Potter is only books about courage. It's quite possitive to anyone that we must fight against the bad and the unfairness. I really can't understand the woman's point!

Posted by Soras_Best_Buddy Jan 18th 2007

C'mon! I get where she's comin' from but, we have a right to read what we want. I know a women sorta like this. She told us at our PRE class at church that Lord of the Rings is a good book because it's good triumphs over evil. I love both these books but come on!! That's what is happening in Harry Potter but it's just taking them longer!!

Posted by gandalfxj9 Jan 18th 2007

If she was going to win this case she would have already...now she's just embarrassing hereself...

Posted by Pinball_Ghost Jan 18th 2007

Greetings fellow Cult of Potter members. Let us all gather together in the dungeons below the Mugglenet servers to sacrifice goats in the hope that the court case will be futile. The still-beating hearts of the goats will be passed around as usual so each member can get a good bite, after which we'll perform the secret Potter dance ritual and chant ominously a bit as prescribed in the book series. Remember to bring your own robes and wands. Harry! Harry! Harry! I propose that this woman be relocated to a third world country, maybe in the middle of a war zone. Maybe then she'll realize that she's wasting time and money trying to get a book banned and that there are other issues needing more attention.

Posted by hplvr14 Jan 18th 2007

She is insane! I mean, seriously... just read one of the books! Come ON lady... I read on TLC that the Pope even thought that HP was perfectly fine! And think of ALL the books with magic... really! If you don't like it, then don't make a big deal about it! Live your own quiet life NOT reading HP for all I care. But just don't try stopping others from reading it!

Posted by potterlovver814 Jan 18th 2007

She annoys me so much. Harry Potter does not even go near the subject of Christianity or religions for that matter. And witchcraft... this is the 21st century and this book has opened doors for so many kids who don't read very often. If she had read the books... which would of course be logical since she's against them... she would understand why Harry Potter has changed the literary world. *eyes roll*... I wonder if she ever surfs Mugglenet and reads these comments?? x) ahaha

Posted by PaintedBlack Jan 18th 2007

Someone please get the woman a hobby already!

Posted by Becky_Snape Jan 18th 2007

Wait can's she be arrested for this? Since its a waste of the Court's time and money. I think its illegal to go to court for something more than, 3 times I think the number is.

Posted by AeolisMalfoy Jan 18th 2007

*sighs* W.E.N.C.H. Mallory, you tosser, go read the books and get over yourself, you crazed, holy-rolling, high and mighty WITCH!!!

Posted by hpintwense06 Jan 18th 2007

Pinball_Ghost: hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!! omg i was laughing out loud at what you just posted! lol.... i'll meet you there. lol no but really.... she needs to realize that Jo did not write these books intending that her readers would do that sort of thing... SHE DID NOT. I REPEAT: DID NOT!!! Jo is a mother with children also, and I don't think she'd want to cause pain to families/kids or whatever else Laura Mallory said the books did to people.

Posted by SCPGOH_ad24 Jan 18th 2007

AHHHHHHHHHH GIVE IT UP WOMAN! they already decided to keep the books on the shelves, twice now, isn't it? take the hint! maby she thinks that if she keeps on doing it they will vote to keep them off the shevles because of sheer annoyance.

Posted by polkadots_7 Jan 18th 2007

OH MY GOSH!!! This lady needs to get a life.. Lol on emerson's comment!

Posted by mudbloodprincess Jan 18th 2007

wow...hasnt she made a big enough idiot of herself!?!? even mad magazine named her top 10 biggest fools or something of the year!! wow!! i believe she's afraid if she reads the books she may be enchanted herself!! :) lyl lyl hp rocks!!

Posted by SiriusEqualsLuv Jan 18th 2007

.......crazy lady.

Posted by AnimalLover Jan 18th 2007

What is it with this woman. i understand where she is coming from. But Harry Potter is just a great wonderful fictional story about 3 wizards and witches. Saying that HP promotes witchcraft is like saying the three little pigs promotes the boiling of wolves. Or that pokemon promotes cruelty to animals in that it is okay for animals to fight. (okay, a bit off, but you get the idea) or that Chronicles of Narnia promotes that fighting with real swords is a okay thing to do. Whitchcraft! What a bunch of dungbombs. I doubt she'll ever win this case. Maybe she should try some native African tribe, where 'witchcraft' is illegal....

Posted by tallywho Jan 18th 2007

This woman is so crazy she's funny. Now The Washington Post is even making fun of her: "After the court announced its decision, Ms. Mallory stated she is praying "God will touch the hearts of this generation." While she's at it, perhaps she can also ask God to touch her brain. If not Laura Mallory may be taking home back-to-back Idiot of the Year Awards. http://blog.wa shingtonpost.com/offbeat/ 2007/01/harry_potter_vs_l aura_mallory.html

Posted by GriffinQuill94 Jan 18th 2007

One and a half years? Are you kidding me? This is too much. I have been reading Harry Potter since I was seven, Ms. Mallory, and I assure you, at the ripe age of twelve, I am definitely NOT a crazy, demented child screaming forth pagan spells from a gnarled piece of wood. And regarding your argument, not only is it hypocritical, it is just stupid. If you are going to judge the books, then actually READ them. And while you're at at, pull all those other magical books off of the shelves too. Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, the Twilight series, you catch my drift. Oh, and doesn't Cinderella have a "fairy" godmother? Best remove that too. And my oh my, I nearly overlooked the witch in Hansel and Gretel. Out it goes! All I have to say is, I pray that your three kids are hiding under the covers right now, flashlight in their hands, reading HP whilst you sleep. To forbid them even, ignorant but we can tolerate it. To forbid US? That, well that, we cannot tolerate.

Posted by PotterChick958 Jan 18th 2007

And like said fly, the woman just does not take a hint. She makes me wonder about the human race...Oy. Love, Amanda

Posted by hpintwense06 Jan 18th 2007

yes. until she can go through EACH & EVERY HP BOOK and tell us EXACTLY where Mrs. Rowling told us to turn into real wizards and witches, I will continue to read the books. Not like I am going to stop reading them, any ways. I am actually reading, in additon to MuggleNet's new book, Harry Potter and the Prisioner of Azkaban, my favorite book in the series. I love it cuz it was the first one I read by myself, and we meet my favorite character, Sirius.... hmmm i think i'm off to read! YAYAYAYAYAYAY!

Posted by EiSeL Jan 18th 2007

this is the kind of thing that make people think that christians are freaks. she needs to get a grip and get over the fact that harry potter is still going to be out there. and its not like kids can go to, say, a book store or perhaps another neighboring county. why doesnt she realize that everyone thinks shes a nutjob? jeez...

Posted by laurydory Jan 18th 2007

I am sick of lunatics who haven't the rationale to actually read the books preaching about evil and devil worship. Suppressing free thought and never giving children the right to choose for themselves... yeah that's much better. All you religious nuts who condemn Harry without reading it should ask yourselves why God gave us imaginations in the first place. We all know how utterly EVIL harry is too. He is so evil that he is trying to kill the EVIL lord. Ms Mallory should think before she acts like a fool. It is good for a laugh though. - Laura (I am ashamed to share a name with her).

I don't understand this lady! I am religious but I LOVE HARRY POTTER! If she doesn't want her kids to read it then FINE! But don't tell all the kids in your state what they can't read. GOD THIS WOMEN NEEDS HELP! By the way girl read the books before you make assumtions. Things like this make me lose faith in humans.

JK has already touched my heart through her books, thank you very much. This woman needs to get a life...or at least educate herself (ie READ THE BOOKS) before she makes herself look like a fool. Too bad she isn't fighting against something worthwhile.

Why, why, why... My dad put it best, anyone who is trying to ban any book, just doesn't get it. Long live HP, forever and ever!!!

Posted by echoscot Jan 18th 2007

It is a bit sad that she is "tilting at windmills". She could be spending money and time so much more positively. As to the person who said "people like her are why I am not a Christian" , the rightness or wrongness of a faith is not based on the actions of an individual follower, but on the principles and precepts of that faith. Just don't let Laura Mallory have that much control over you, that her actions influence your decisions. Not all Christians behave as foolishly.

Posted by DinkleToes Jan 18th 2007

Here's an idea, Mrs. Mallory. Why don't you devote your energy to more important, worthy things? Like, oh, saving world hunger, or promoting better gun control? Because I can tell you one thing: I'm not going to take a broomstick and leap off the roof of my house because Harry Potter told me I could fly. And neither is my five-year-old cousin, because even SHE knows what the difference is between books and reality. And I'd LOVE to know who the so-called "expert" witness is. Whoever it is, I bet they've never picked up a Harry Potter book in their lifetime either. It's funny, though: so many researchers have proven that children CAN distinguish between reality and fiction, as long as they've been raised correctly. Mrs. Mallory, why don't you stop with your "crusade" against Harry Potter and actually pay attention to your own kids? Because if you keep this up, they'll be ridiculed for the rest of their lives for having "that crazy mom". Oh, and they'll also turn out exactly how you don't want them to, because you'll have been too busy trying to run the lives of other kids to notice your own. Also, if you do somehow succeed in *GASP* banning the Harry Potter books, YOU'LL be solely responsible for the massive rise in the smuggling of illegal books into the country/school system that would occur. Yeah. How'd you like THAT on your shoulders for the rest of your life, huh? Just think about it. I'm Christian and I read the Harry Potter books. Both are badges of honor for me. Don't make me ashamed of either one. Please. Rant over. :D
