Laura Mallory to appeal yet again
Laura Mallory, the mother who has been crusading since August 2005 to remove the Potter books from the County's school libraries, is set to appeal to the County's Superior Court the decision Georgia state made in December to keep the books on shelves.

Mallory said, "We will take a stand for truth, and pray God will touch the hearts of this generation." For the past year and a half, she has vehemently preached that the books indoctrinate children in witchcraft. She hasn't, however, actually read the books.

Mallory says she is poised to take legal action and has apparently received "significant donations" from "supporters" in aid of this.

Emerson's Comment: Ever seen a fly crash itself repeatedly into a transparent pane of glass, never quite getting the hint? Yeah.

Just today, someone I know asked me if I was Christian as I was talking about Harry Potter. When I said yes, she responded to me by saying "You can't be into witchcraft if you're Christian". I didn't take her seriously at all when she said that. Being a fan of the books doesn't mean I practice witchcraft. Seriously, why does Laura Mallory bother? She should know by now that the odds aren't going to be in her favor, that she's just going to lose, and that she's basically hated by Harry Potter fans everywhere for what she's doing. Face it, Laura Mallory...by doing this, you're only hurting yourself.

Harry Potter Vs. Laura Mallory Part 2

Posted by maryginevra Jan 18th 2007

I think that the stupidest part of this story is the fact that she admittes that she has never read the books. Here she is lobbing for there removel for realious reasons and she has no idea what she is talking about. Anyone who has ever read the books knows that they are purely (and clearly labled) fiction books that make no refrences to reilgious issues. Plus, if you want to be a overbearing, bossy control freak about fiction books why scapegoat Harry Potter. I mean the "His Dark Materials" books (which are still good books, don't get me wrong), actually comes out and says that god is the first angle the heavans created and is lying to the world and the other angles.

I remember when the first HP book came out. I was 11 years old and I somehow managed to get a copy of it and began reading. I never finished reading it, though, because I was so heavily influenced by my Mom and her adamant beliefs about "righteousness" and the way witchcraft, even if you don't believe in it, will "open up your mind to Satan." Thanks, mom. Satan is the ultimate way to freak the bejesus out of a kid! He's the equivalent of an army of boogie monsters! Of course, I now know that my mom was totally off her rocker (and still is) and have since read and savored every bit of the HP books. My point is simply this: some people are crazy, and deserve nothing less than to run into the glass repeatedly--at least we can sit back and have a good laugh on the other side!

REALLY REALLY PATHETIC! Ok, where in the books does it ever teach ‘evil’? I cannot believe the nerve of her! So what, she can TRY to get our most favorite and beloved series off the shelves in Georgia, BUT SHE CAN'T WIN! MWA HA HA! God people, I've traveled the world! I'VE BEEN TO EVERY SINGLE CONTINENT ON EARTH! I'VE LIVED IN 4 COUNTRIES! AND EVERY SINGLE PLACE I'VE BEEN TO, THEY WORSHIP HARRY POTTER! Anyway, even if this woman DOES succeed (Which she won't) I live all the way down in Melbourne, Victoria Australia, which is basically at the bottom of the world, so Laura: YOU'LL NEVER REACH ME! God, people, if you live in Georgia you should get a restraining order! And just because this woman is Christian, doesn't mean that the rest of us a nong's too! I myself am a Catholic. Now, we look at total idiots like AnyaMarcos, who thinks that Christianity is a pathetic religion, and just for the record: AnyaMarcos is hated by most Mugglenetters (including me). All she does is go on and on and on about how she's not Christian, and how she hates us all! She is a pity attention seeker, who has nothing else to do in her time other than nag us Christians and Catholics. Now there is Laura Mallory, who is AnyaMarcos x 10. Laura is an utter dimwit, who think's that she'll actually... err... how I should put it.... 'Achieve' her goal. I'm actually surprised that she hasn't given up yet, when she's lost about 3 trials already. Btw, I wonder if Jo is enjoying this, it must be so funny! I cannot believe that she and her 'supporters' will 'pray that God will touch the hearts of this generation.' I THINK that this... 'non' human should accept the fact that Jo's series has turned millions of kids across the world onto reading! And also, I think I know why Jo changed the title for book 7. 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,' my God people, that's going to cause a HUGE stir within the Catholic Church.

HaaHAAA lol...Emerson..you put it really well there...i'm still laughing....lol perfect sense of humour man... nyway about this woman....SHE's a dimwit, nincompoop and her bloody brain is filled with poppycock......if she's not read the books then its a waste and the judge would do good to make her do social service of cleaning hp books..bi@#h....

Ok I don't usually post my my comments but I am really tired of People like Mrs. Mallory who is making me trip. Now what I say is just my oppinion and is not meant to insult any ones religous beliefs. This is just the way I see things. First it has been stated that this Mrs. Mallory hasn't even read the book in the first place but if she wants to put Harry Potter against the Bible then we need to burn the Bible as well. Now before anyone gets mad please continue to read as I personally don't think we need to burn the Bible but..... If we have read the Bible and believe me I have, both my grandparents were Sunday school teachers and the Bible was drummed into my head. Now if i remember the Bible and the Harry Potter Books there is not much differennce as both have goodness, evil and magic or miricles if you will. Harry Potter blew up his aunt, I think Jesus could have done that as well if he wanted, he did however turn water into wine, he fed 5000 people with 12 baskets of food and had left overs. he walked on water, brought back from the dead, made the blind see, and a whole bunch of other things. And god hinself seperated the red sea, turned the nile into blood, created an entire world in seven days. This deity and his son performed many feats of magic or miricles if you will. I agree harry Potter is far from the Bible but it was Mrs. Mallory who wanted to bring them together. I think she should shut up and read all six Harry Potter Books and reread the Bible because aside from one being just a story the other is true. Just my oppinion Sorry if I offended anyone.

Posted by wishingstar22 Jan 19th 2007

If she put this kind of time, energy and passion into something worth while she could accomplish great things. What a pity.

Posted by kitiara Jan 19th 2007

One would think she would've gotten the hint by now. Please, develop a new cause, like keeping murderers and rapists off the street. There are far more dangerous things than Harry Potter out there.

Posted by double_trouble Jan 19th 2007

Oh my...this women is unbelievable! Has she not yet learnt that she IS GETTING NOWHERE WITH ALL OF THIS!

Posted by hermionerules Jan 19th 2007

As a mother and complete and total Harry Potter fan, I can say that this woman needs to get a grip! If she doesn't want her kids to read the books, fine that is up to her but the other children in the school should be given the chance to read Harry Potter if they want. These books have done so much to increase the reading of children and that is what is important. I agree with another mother who commented that I would rather have my child run around pretending to turn things pink or something silly than have my child pretend to to shoot people or "play war".

Posted by liliam_inter_spinas Jan 19th 2007

I converted to wicca from christianity despite this woman. Seriously does she have nothing better to do than TRY to dictate what other people read? She should try getting a job or maybe even raising the children she is so convinced will turn evil if they so much as touch a Harry Potter book. Or go live with the amish maybe she'll fit in there, or in Iraq where they dont have the freedom to read what they like instead of trampling the literacy of AMERICAN children!!! UGGHHH.... This wooman makes me so mad.

Posted by I_heart_Sirius Jan 19th 2007

She's crazy. It's unbelievable. No-one in their right mind would ban HP books. Here's a tip for you, Mallory: READ THE BOOKS!

Posted by James_Padfoot Jan 19th 2007

Why are we still giving her newsspace? Ignore her. She is just an attention seeking prat. Also, well done Emerson, on the comment. Futile and stupid, exactly what she is.

Posted by Lady_Sporkess Jan 19th 2007

Some people really need to learn to, well, give up. Perserverance is all well and good, but jeez dude. It's a Harry Potter book. Just take a hint and get a life...

Posted by Helter_Skelter Jan 19th 2007

Isn't there some Christian thing that says "god grant me courage to change the things I can, the SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CANNOT and the wisdom to KNOW THE DIFFERENCE"??? (sorry i probably butchered that... non-christians such as myself can't quote stuff like that word for word) so why can't this woman understand that she can't just get some good books banned because she makes assumptions about them? hasn't she acquired the WISDOM from past experiences to know that???? There is a fine line between perseverance and plain obstinance >_

Posted by AdrianTresk Jan 19th 2007

Alright, I understand trying it once and it was funny the second time, but now this is getting seriously stupid ... Does anyone have any idea of how expensive a single cuort case costs the tax- payers of the county ... Yeah, it doesn't just come from one persons pocket it comes from EVERYONE ... I certainly hope that in this case, the courts charge all of these legal preceadings to her account ... I get the feeling that regardless of the number of donations she's recieved she'll be hard pressed to pay for all of it, and I'm sure that they'll soon consider locking her up as well for wasting the courts time and money

Posted by wougal07 Jan 19th 2007

This lady is nuts! I am a very strong christian and I absolutley love Harry Potter! This lady needs to give it up! Emerson's comment cracks me up! That is exactly right!

Posted by AndrewW Jan 19th 2007

Is it even worth being called "news"? She wont win and why can she not realize that yet? Nobody agrees with her (remember the anonymous decision last time?) Its just a waste of everyone's time. You know what I do to those stupid flies who repeatedly hit my window? I squish them and throw them outside. GIVE UP LAURA MALLORY!

Posted by Crystal Jan 19th 2007

lol I actually laughed when I saw this but... *sigh* this is getting really ridiculous, she's starting to get on my nerves, I can't believe she keeps on insisting that HP promotes witchcraft when she didn't read any of the books herself! Honestly though, do real Wiccan people wave a wand and say "accio"? I don't think so, do real Wiccan people fly on broomsticks? I don't think so! Besides she's just grasping on straws when no one is harmed in reading this book. I mean for goodness sakes! IT'S JUST A BOOK!!! It's not the Book of Shadows or something, she's really blind to ignore the facts circling around her, she should just give up before things really get out of hand... still, I give her points for being persistent XP

Posted by Illusions Jan 19th 2007

"It's not going to woooork." But seriously, this woman should give up. Doesn't she get the hint? Harry Potter will NEVER be swiped from bookshelves. Sheesh.

Posted by deniserogue Jan 19th 2007

i don't know her story but it's ridiculous. my alma mater, a catholic school has HP books from 1-6! i guess the nuns read it too!

Posted by nevillesfan Jan 19th 2007

As Hermione said in the SS movie "What an idiot!" This woman is so scary because she seems so normal. She is appealing because the BOE did not address her concerns. I can only imagine her 'expert' witness. She is costing the taxpayers money and I'm miffed because I'm one of them. She needs to sit down and shut up

Posted by cfish Jan 19th 2007

Why stop at HP? What about Philip Pullman's Dark Materials too... As the church is clearly presented in a 'negative' light (for those who haven't read them, I highly recommend reading these books) The important lesson to learn from Mrs Mallory is, knowledge is power. She very cleary does not understand what wicca and witchcraft are. I wonder what her veiws are regarding buddhism, hinduism, or any other religion for that matter.

This lady MUST be related to Mr Dursley. I normally consider myself to be a tolerant person and people can have there own beleifs, But she is driving me NUTS, and I have been thinking like a lot of people on this subject. Be a person christian or not, magic an whitchcraft is a part of life through out the ages. half the childrens programs on tv are based on some sort of magic. as for some of the most famous classical writers such as Shakespear uses magic and whtichcraft The Tempest and Macbeth just to name 2. Are these too baned? I have in the past meet someone who does not believe in darwinisum (in evelution) and that the Bible is fact. I have to admit I don not know the bible from cover to cover but i am given to understand that there are pasages that relate to magic and whichcraft and some not in a bad way. If anyone can enlighten me on this and where to find it I would apreciate it.

Posted by hpfan_1 Jan 19th 2007

Yeah, well, someone should really tell her that there's a bed right beside Umbridge in St. Mungo's

Posted by mckenna Jan 19th 2007

Apparently Emerson, people over at the Washington Post's blog who've been commenting on this story think you're both complimenting her and insulting the flies. lol Her children should seriously all go fall in love with Harry Potter now... or better yet! Apply for jobs at mugglenet!! lol

Posted by potterfan64 Jan 19th 2007

I feel that I have a better right to say if Harry Potter should stay on shelfs, partly because i've read them and partely because im a MK ( missionaries kid). I know that most of the people who try to get Harry Potter books off the shelfs are Christian ( or at least claim to be). I find that the way some of them act isn't how a Christian should. I LOVE Harry Potter and many other fantisay books. I don't believe that Potter is un-christian in any way. My hope is that soon people will realize that all those rumors floating about HP and JKR ( and I've heard some extrenley horrible ones) are made-up lies and I truley believe that Harry Potter and Christians can get along. Some of you reading this may think that Christians are stupid and bad because they all hate Harry Potter; but that isn't true I am a true Christian and I love the Harry Potter books!

Posted by elphaba8906 Jan 19th 2007

I not only disagree wiht that crazy woman i have a question for her why is she only targeting harrypotter why not narnia and lotr?? why ONLY harry potter?? thats all thanks

Posted by annish007 Jan 19th 2007

if she can put her head beetween her legs and kiss her arse,i'll burn my whole harry potter collection and campaign against j.k.oh yeah, the only rule is that she must be able to do it on her first try and it must be on the center of her oily arse..xD or else maybe she simply isnt bleesed with brains.*sigh* or maybe we should all buy wands from alivans and and do the avada kedavra spell on her and when it doesnt work she'll know it isnt real cause i think nobody told her the speels and potions were invented by pure imagination.RANT OVER lol p.s does anybody have a contact number for a hitman?

Posted by alien Jan 19th 2007

oh man she has started again . first of all she haven,t read the books. and why is she talking as thou ahe knows everything about hp. the most irritating person on earth. to laura, "you are the most insensitive wart i have ever had the misfortune to be heard of".

she's crazy! its never going to work!

Posted by AnyaMarcos Jan 19th 2007

Conservative Christians are a cancer on the USA.

Posted by Karpo Jan 19th 2007

Ya know, I think a point to be made here is that she's NEVER READ THE BOOKS. It's one thing to be persistant, but she really doesn't understand what she's being persistant about. If she actually read through the books, maybe she would see that they are not full of witchcraft, but are great novels, stories, and are full of lessons for a growing child. But she's probably afraid that if she does read them, the Devil will steal her soul or something. Whatever.

Posted by Aoife Jan 19th 2007

is she jobless o wha..ita her against d whole world!!

Posted by Potterfan_1 Jan 19th 2007

Why does this women be so persistant to get rid of a book that she hasn't even read before? It isn't like Harry Potter or any other character in the series is trying to make any of us to start trying to do magic or anything

Posted by fire_whiskey Jan 19th 2007

emerson, your comments are truly amazing. i AGREE completely.

Posted by Azazel Jan 19th 2007

@ AnyaMarcos Amen

Posted by hermione_792 Jan 19th 2007

okay, this woman is an idiot on so many levels. firstly, she hasn't even read the books! they are IMAGINARY. there is nothing to do with real witchcraft in them. clearly she is jumping to conclusions. secondly, she should not be parenting other people's kids. that's just wrong. thirdly, she's wasting her time! no one is going to listen to her. she should be promoting something more worthwhile! from harry potter fans everywhere... GIVE UP!!!

Posted by wingnutdawn Jan 19th 2007

since she hasn't actually read the Harry Potter books I guess she must enjoy using this platform to sprout her own narrow minded beliefs.

Posted by Holly_Potter Jan 19th 2007

grr...I'm afraid HP will never escape the shadow of false accusations....I believe that it is a very very good story of good vs. evil. But, however, my dad still thinks it's evil. My brother claims that it is very satanic, and that he never has liked HP and never will (I know he's liked it before!). All my friends don't read HP because it involves witchcraft (and yet they read Narnia, go fig). So, it's just me, me and all you guys at Mugglenet! Any tips on how to persuade my bro or dad that it's not evil?

Posted by Heartz4Malfoy Jan 19th 2007

It's people like her who make me hate living in Georgia.

Posted by halfbloodprincess08 Jan 19th 2007

This has got to be one of the most ridiculous things that I've ever seen. Honestly, Mallory give it a rest. Pretty much the entire world is behind Jo and her series! The only one touching hearts here is Jo. God Bless her.

Posted by NatesPixie Jan 19th 2007

I know nobody here needs to hear it, but I have to rant! This is America, the Land of the Free...but there is a price for that freedom, which is that sometimes you have to tolerate things that you don't necessarily like. If you want censorship and for all people to think alike, move to China. I think that people can believe anything they want, and should have a CHOICE as to what they believe, and that isn't going to happen with parents brainwashing their children into thinking that if a book doesn't have the words "Christ, our Savior" in it, it's the work of the devil. Again, let me just say...this is America. We came here to get AWAY from oppressive rule. Hopefully, any court to which she appeals won't give her the time of day...

Posted by matineeidol Jan 19th 2007

The woman is simply ridiculous. If she wants to keep her own kids from reading HP then more power to her. My mother personally loves the series, though, and would never want these books taken away from my brother or myself (not that either or us are little kids any more) I'm sure other parents feel the same, though. Did she miss that whole thing where the church and public school systems were separated?
