Laura Mallory to appeal yet again
Laura Mallory, the mother who has been crusading since August 2005 to remove the Potter books from the County's school libraries, is set to appeal to the County's Superior Court the decision Georgia state made in December to keep the books on shelves.

Mallory said, "We will take a stand for truth, and pray God will touch the hearts of this generation." For the past year and a half, she has vehemently preached that the books indoctrinate children in witchcraft. She hasn't, however, actually read the books.

Mallory says she is poised to take legal action and has apparently received "significant donations" from "supporters" in aid of this.

Emerson's Comment: Ever seen a fly crash itself repeatedly into a transparent pane of glass, never quite getting the hint? Yeah.

Oh, I think I just figured-out who this so-called "expert" witness might be. I'd bet anything that Mallory has found herself someone who claims to have converted to Devil-Worshipping because of HP but is now "born again". I'd also bet that this person is nothing more than an actor hired to lie just to help this woman's cause. Oh, note to HPFanTimothy: why must you continue to bait Anya? I'd like to ask you a question: how do you know that most Mugglenetters hate her? Did you take a poll?

Posted by ReallyTired Jan 19th 2007

I think it's safe to say that what has triggered her irrationality is the stigma associated with the word witch. By that most unreliable type of logic, association, she automatically assumed that any book with heroic "witches and wizards" in it was promoting Satanism. This is of course ridiculous. Anyone who's read the books knows that there is a strong set of values displayed by the heroes of HP that directly contradict these accusations.

Posted by heimbach Jan 19th 2007

Ms. Mallory does not have the validity to say that Harry Potter is teaching witchcraft if she has not even read the books. I'm sure that if an atheist who has never read the Bible were trying to stop children from reading it, then she would feel about how I feel right now. I believe and love God, and I know that Harry Potter has not damaged my relationship with God in any way.

@GrowUpChick: Leave Timothy alone! He helps me every time he posts, by demonstrating what rotten people Christians are. LOL

Posted by Nimue Jan 19th 2007

This is getting beyond a joke. Not that it was funny to start with. If she wants to rile against 'anti-Christian' stuff, she should go seek out another target. I'm sure there's some small and apparently 'Satanic' cult out there that will fulfil her needs. If anything, HP has a habit of being overly moralistic, not 'Satanic' or 'occult' (though I doubt she's even considered the difference) or whatever she argues. The magic of the series doesn't even bare much resemblance to 'real life' magic as it is (wicca, for e.g.). She's flogging a dead horse. No-one is going to listen. I didn't even think there was a higher court she could take it to....

Posted by GrownUpChick Jan 19th 2007

Anya: Oh, okay...sorry. You're right. He does make Christians look bad, doesn't he?

Posted by harrypotteretard Jan 19th 2007

She may be the most obnoxious, annoying person I've ever met (and yes I have met her), but it's SO amusing to watch her struggle. My aunt is exactly like her and is probably one of those "donating supporters." For years when my aunt came down to visit us, she would sleep in my room IN MY BED with her dog and let it eat in my bed. So one day I took all my Harry Potter things and put them at the foot of my bed so it would be the first thing she saw every morning. Well after that I was known as the most ungrateful child on earth because I didn't want her dog sleeping on my face. And Harry thinks his family is messed up. But anyway, what Emerson said is EXACTLY what I was thinking when I first read that. Gotta love this world we live in! ~Lindsay

Posted by AnyaMarcos Jan 19th 2007

GrownUpChick, he certainly does. Timothy will create a lot of hatred toward Christians in his lifetime. He's exactly the kind of person that made me leave Christianity. Notice how proudly he boasts about his hate? That's what Jesus taught, after all.

Posted by Hermione0716 Jan 19th 2007

Is it just me or does anyone else think that this woman is in need of hobby either that or a right good smack on the head with a blunt object. LOL, Teresa g.

Posted by AnyaMarcos Jan 19th 2007

If you do a Google search for HPFANTimothy, you can see his posts from this site. Really nice, sweet, Christian posts like telling people they should die, that nobody likes them, comparing them to Hitler. You know, really loving, Christian stuff like that.

Posted by kula_melike Jan 19th 2007

Why can't she just give it a rest already?!?! She has gone mad, somebody please make the sense out of her... Wonder how does her children feel? I'd love to see that they are such huge Harry Potter fans... Harry Potter has done alot of the readers, alot of people have improved, she should see it has made such a great influence.. what a dumb ass!

Posted by Potterslady430 Jan 19th 2007

Okay, I am just wondering about this lady. I am a Christian and go to Catholic school, they are strict about religion still, they arn't against Harry Potter this much. I just think she is taking this to far.

Posted by bookworm1991 Jan 19th 2007

I think that she is perfectly right in preventing her own kids from reading them. If she has a problem with Harry Potter that's fine with me but I think it would be better if she was campaigning against something that really is a problem. like Abortion or what happened to Terri Schiavo(sp?)....

Posted by person92 Jan 19th 2007

Oh my.

Posted by flippinfool13 Jan 19th 2007

OH MY FRIGGIN GOSH....lol......you are one rediculous woman....she's completely mad....

Posted by addie17 Jan 19th 2007

i honestly dunno which planet this woman is living in...defintly not with us...i mean...bad enough she is fighting for something totally ridiculous(if it was for anything else more worth while, the world would have been a better place...), but doesnt she have friends and family who tell her that she is making a fool of herself?? i really admire her perseverance in fighting for a cause...but her ignorance more than makes up for it...and then ofcourse she could always belong to those people who use religion to gain attention...like a few here in mugglenet...the only difference being while mallory claims to voice her opinion on what her religion preaches, the ones here(whom i shall not name-they are not going to get what they want from me!) are proud they are not christians giving the lamest reasons( the lamest of all being 'people like her are why im not a christian'...i thought malory was dumb...but to be influenced by such recognised idiots..i have no worlds).

Posted by AnyaMarcos Jan 19th 2007

Addie, shut up. Stop acting like you're better than everyone else.

Posted by Kareen Jan 19th 2007

Ok first off, props to Emmerson for the comment, perfect mental image. Second, why doesn't this woman go and get a brain transplant? All this God crap (apologies to anyone religious) and about how she wants to "save" our generation! Give me a frickin break lady! God has nothing to do with this situation! It's all about you and your complete and total idiocy! I mean she talks about wanting to save our generation, when all she is doing it hurting it by repressing creativity and free thinking. And yet again the whole thing with witchcraft... IT'S CALLED WICCA! AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DEVIL!

Posted by Melissa_TPP Jan 19th 2007

NOT..... AGAIN...........!!!!!!!!! ! Is she ever gonna give it up? I saw this awesome reply: GOD SHOULD PUNISH SUCH ANNOYING WOMEN oh yeah. I mean, she hasn`t even read the books! Mallory said, "We will take a stand for truth, and pray God will touch the hearts of this generation." I find this sickening! Harry Potter has touched the hearts of sooo many people! Look at mugglenet! These people have had the time of thier lives with these books. Truth is all around us here on this site, and around Laura Mallory is delonsional lies!

Posted by voldykins Jan 19th 2007

Oh, god. What an idiot. Why is she STILL even trying?

Posted by LordDragon Jan 19th 2007

Y'know I actually agree with PART of one of the criticisms. HP encourages the questioning of authority, but unlike these myopic simpletons, I consider this a good thing. Questioning authority leads to independent thoughtful adults, not sheep who follow a religious or political party line blindly. She probably doesn't like Narnia either, even though Lewis wrote that explicitly as a Christian allegory.

Posted by fantfreak Jan 19th 2007

I luv your comments everyone!!!!!!!!!! u're fighting a losing battle laura. poor kids awsome comment escaping!

Posted by Witchy_Woman Jan 19th 2007

Does she not realize that Jo is a mother and a wife? I do not see any reason or logic in her thinking! She has got to be out of her mind! (Are we still on for the Pottercult meeting in the dungeons tonight? I'll bring the sacrificial lamb). Not but really-I have only one thing to say to her since she won't listen to reason. I'll try to appeal to her dominant nature: Get thee behind me, Satan. *Translation* You stinketh Laura Mallory. Go have tea with Pastor Becky Fisher and leave us the hell alone! What have any of us or Jo ever done to you! Keep your children from reading the books! Leave it alone! AVADA KEDAVRA!!!!

Posted by Witchy_Woman Jan 19th 2007

Timothy, I just read your last comment. That was SO unbelievably uncalled for! You singled Anya out! How do you know that everyone hates her? I don't hate her! I come from a very devout Roman Catholic family and I happen to LIKE Anya! Sure, I'll admit, she's stubborn and grumpy and can be unbelievably narrow-minded, but you don't know her! I don't know her! Do we know her background or where she comes from? No! If you are a christian then I am sure you will agree that Jesus is not proud of those who hate and spit venom at each other! We have never evan met one another! THIS POST IS ABOUT LAURA MALLORY BEING A STUPID IDIOTIC IGNORANT PRICK!!! Why must every one of these posts turn into hellbent arguments about christianity! You are giving Mallory the evidence she needs to prove to the world that Harry Potter creates Hate!!!! AND WHY IS THAT? Why?

Posted by aalikane Jan 19th 2007

"We will take a stand for truth, and pray God will touch the hearts of this generation." If 'God' wanted the GP books out of the schools, he'd have helped her already! Get over it!

Posted by Something_New Jan 19th 2007

When will she ever learn it will never happen??? She needs to read the book before she judges them. Its very annoying.

Posted by LordDragon Jan 19th 2007

Witchy...as far as the sacrificial lamb is concerned, to quote Harvey Korman in "Blazing Saddles," "No, too Jewish." No offense intended.

Posted by alliewobbles Jan 19th 2007

She needs mental help. Badly. IT'S JUST A STORY, LADY!!! Honestly, I just did a Comparative Religion Project on how there's traces of Christianity in Harry Potter, and she's saying they're evil. Craaaazzyy...

Posted by jenlovegood Jan 19th 2007

God wants everyone to be excepted and he excepts others, what if someone in her kids elementary school practiced actual witchcraft? Would she try to get them kicke dout of the school? Geez she is so wrong, and i'm a christian.

Posted by draco_loves_me Jan 19th 2007

let's introduce this lady to voldemort already. are you with me, fellow mugglenetters? *laughs evilly, grabs pitchfork*

Posted by Chitra Jan 19th 2007

I hate how Christian fundamentalists think that anything remotely non-Christian is the devil. It's not true. She can not even prove that witchcraft even exists! If she wants everyone else to respect her religion, then she should respect other faiths as well, like Wicca. I think that the real victims here are peaceful Wiccans, because people like Mallory will never stop prejudicing against them.

Posted by stjimmythesheep Jan 19th 2007

Well, I admire her determination, but /darn/, woman! Give it a rest already! You've lost how many times??

Posted by cool_breze Jan 19th 2007

I say go Laura! Wait....don't bash! It was morons like this that inspired me to read and subsequently become hooked on these books! So, while annoying, it is idiots like this that I have to thank for my wonderful Potter addiction! Nothing like free press! My only hope is that her poor children rebel and enjoy a smuggled copy of your beloved Harry Potter.

Posted by xtine Jan 19th 2007

The 'Harry Potter' books demonstrate the fundamental importance of love between three friends. 'And yet these three remain: faith, hope, and love; and the greatest of these is love.' (1 Corinthians 13:13) This is what Jesus taught... i wonder how this Christian can condemn it.

Posted by cloak Jan 19th 2007

no, no...i think she HAS read them, and is trying to be as much like Fudge as she possibly can be....ugh. how irritating. but really, as many have already stated: it's great press for the books. she's just doing damage to her own campaign.

Posted by kkatid Jan 19th 2007

uhh, she isn't worth commenting..... and would everybody stop with all this anti-anya, anti-christianity stuff? can't we all get along?

Posted by clmerriam Jan 19th 2007

I am a Christian and an avid Harry Potter fan. It's people like this who ignorantly attack the Harry Potter series without having even read the books who do more harm to the spread of their faith than helping it. J.K. Rowling has made it fun for kids to read again. Parents have the ability to ensure their children know the difference between fantasy and reality, and should do so. They could even *gasp!* read the books together and bond like parents and children used to. If this woman claims to be such a great follower of God, why isn't she using this money she's helped to raise and invest it in her church and its programs? At least then it wouldn't be wasted on some futile endeavor...

Posted by MarySue Jan 19th 2007

*gasp* A working mother who spends time taking care of her children, and trying to instill good values in them and others doesn't have the time to read a childrens book series over 2 thousand pages long? HOW DARE SHE? I just don't get why people are still talking about this. Every single appeal has been shut down; isn't it old news by now?

Posted by amara Jan 19th 2007

oh my fecking fajitas why doesn't this crazy betch just GIVE IT UP?!

Posted by Serinity Jan 19th 2007

lol, you'd think, oh, I dunno, a UNANAMOUS ruling against her would make her get the hint that her case is ridduculus, eh? ~sigh~ . I can't beleive she's at it AGAIN. Has anyone listened to the 12 days of mugglecast thing? "..9 rants against laura mallory" ;)

Posted by Crookshanks93 Jan 19th 2007

gosh how does she even know what the books are about if she's never even read them. go and grow a brain!!!!

Posted by Williams Jan 19th 2007

I'm a Christian, and I love Harry Potter. The thing that NO Harry Potter-denouncing Christian has EVER been able to explain to me: why is the magic and sorcery in LOTR and The Chronicles of Narnia (which Christians read and admire all over) any more acceptable than that in Harry Potter?

Posted by lizzybennet Jan 19th 2007

WTF!!!!????? Is she Fu*%#g insane. Sorry, mind my wonderful vocabulary, I just can't believe this woman...(shakes head in disbelief)

Posted by HPFANTimothy Jan 19th 2007

WHAT!!??!! How do I KNOW everyone hates ANYA? Anya HATES all Christians! Which is totally wrong! I'm only DEFENDING my religion! I'm a Catholic, and she treats ME, and for that matter, OTHER CHRISTIANS, like some sort of....I dunno... disease! No matter how horrible I may be to Anya, my point is right! You just have to live with it! Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, must treat all religions with respect! And, I remember a while ago, someone said that all Anya does is bagg Christians, she never says ANYTHING about Harry Potter. And he/she also said how many people hate Anya, because she is a Christian hater. I know what AnyaMarcos says! She offends me, and other Christians! Once she told me that Jesus was waiting for me! And that I should do something with a Bible! I was so DISGUSTED that I'm not going to repeat what she told me. I'm a nice person, but when AnyaMarcos makes fun of my religion, telling me that we all suck, it's only NATURAL for me to get angry. And I speak for all the other Christians.

Posted by Sweettweety Jan 19th 2007

She's at it again??????!!!!! If she would just shut her yap, then she would save us a lot of pain and herself a lot of embarassment. So, in the words of my art teacher, zippita the lippita. LONG LIVE HARRY POTTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by harrypotteretard Jan 19th 2007

These appeals are enough to make an atheist pray that she just gives up!

Posted by Starfire_Potter Jan 19th 2007

what is this lady's problem?!?!?!?!? she is so messed up! the books are wonderful! i supposed actually reading them is...i agree with the person who said it before me! never judge a book by it's cover!

Posted by Potterfan_1 Jan 19th 2007

I feel that this idiot of a woman shouldn't be do anything rational about something she hasn't even read, I mean there are countless christians who read harry potter and love the series, including me, J.K. Rowling just started the first book to help feed her daughter, Jessica, and because Joe Rowling was so lucky to have thought of harry potter she was able to support her family the way she wanted to, I mean, I bet if Ms. Mallory had to do something desperate to help a close family member...I bet she would go just about as far as anyone else to help them!!!!!

Posted by thevoicebehindtheveil Jan 19th 2007

I can't believe that she is putting so much effort into something so wastefull! If she has the time to campaign like this, and she is truly Christian, why not rase money for starving children around the world? Or some other great cause? And Timothy, I respect that you are a devoute Christian, but in one sense Anay is right. Your crusading like this will only creat resentment from others.

Posted by moonunit Jan 19th 2007

Did you guys Know i've invented a broom that will reach Jupiter?! And all just because i read HP...Whoops nobody was supposed to know that....
