Mallory: I must not quit
For the first time since she embarked on a relentless campaign to remove Potter from Gwinnett county's school libraries in August 2005, Laura Mallory has spoken out in detail about her motives. In a new article, she slams "myths" such as "this is a one-woman fight" and "witchcraft is just harmless fantasy." She writes that young children have been indoctrinated into witchcraft, causing their lives to be ruined. Furthermore, she implies that Potter is the reason for "violence, drugs, gangs, addictions, perversions" in schools nowadays, and that "we need God in America again."
In response to the question, "Do you believe Harry Potter promotes Wicca," JKR replied in a 2001 interview with this: "That's not true. Not once has a child come up to me and said, 'Due to you I've decided to devote my life to the occult.' People underestimate children so hugely. They know it's fiction. When people are arguing from that kind of standpoint, I don't think reason works tremendously well. But I would be surprised if some of them had read the books at all [Mallory hasn't].
"Witches and wizards are a huge part of children's literature; it'll never go away. Hundred years, two hundred years' time there'll be another kind of wizard story."
You can now contact Ms. Mallory at her website. Also, we don't plan to post anything Mallory-related until a verdict of her current case arrives.
Emerson's Comment: Winners never quit and quitters never win. But those who never win and never quit are idiots.

omg. Guess what? Thanks to Harry Potter I sit at home reading and writing fanfictions and checking mugglenet. All the other 15-year-olds? Are out joining gangs, smoking, doing drugs, drinking, beating each other up, and getting pregnant. OMG. None of them read Harry Potter. AMAZING! (btw me and those other 15-year-ods, yea we're all Catholic. Goto Catholic school. it's just...amazing...really)

this woman's stupidity never ceases to amaze me! she even has a picture of hp on her website. she's going straight to hell! oh no! i know i'll see there!
too bad we all didn't have her email address...cause i give her a piece of my mind...i've read the books since i was 15 and i'm 22 years old right now...it has never lead me to the occult...i'm still a believer in GOD and always will be...
Ha! This lady needs some serious help!
I just went to Laura Mallory's site and left her a letter because I think it's time someone told her hpw stupid she is being. This is what is said... This is in response to Laura Mallory's attempts to ban Harry Potter. Do you honestly believe they promote evil...I can't believe that I mean for one you have not even read the books so you have no right to critize anything. The book promote friendship, defeating adversity, over comming your fears, and so much more. You have not logical proof that Harry Potter is evil because guess what there is not proof because it's not evil. I suggest you find something better to do with your time because this is one fight you will not win. Like I said Harry Potter is about overcomming adversity and Harry Potter will overcome this. You have a right to stop your children from reading the books but that does not mean you have a right to take them away from everyone. It's people like you who are so narrow minded and absurd that make it hard for children to grow up, expand there minds, and have an imagination. Harry Potter is just a story and children know that. The magic makes it fun. The magical world is just this fantastic place in a book and they know that. It is up to the parents to teach the children between reality and fantasy so if they can't tell the difference then the parents are to blame not the book. I mean if you are going to ban Harry Potter you might as well ban Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and all other fairy tales because they all include magic. I mean I know of a book that has alot of worst things then Harry Potter. This book talk about rape, incest, violence, evil, the killing of children, and so much more. Although, I am sure some people including you would object to banning the bible...So as you can see many books have bad in them but Harry Potter promotes good not evil so go find something more useful to do with your time because this is one fight you won't win.
ok, Laura, i have only three words for u... READ THE BOOK!!! READ. THE. BOOK. & if u r incapable of reading, well, then, ur d most dim witted person i've ever had the misfortune to have heard about... oh, & yeah, r u even aware of the fact that harry potter has gotten millions of kids into reading? yeah, definitely, such books shud most definitely be banned

How can she speak intelligently on the topic, when she hasn't even read the books? What a loser!
This woman is back, again? I thought she was finished with this little absured fight of hers. She is one voice out of what, millions? Good luck with that Mrs. Mallory. If she thinks the books are an endanger to children, the new pics of Dan should make her hair fall out!!
I realy cant stand this lady. How can she blame harry potter for all the bad things in the world? drugs have been menchioned once and alcohol maby twice, they are 16 now it would be unrealistic if it didnt come up. Also, anyone who can stand to read a 800 page book is most likly a geak, no offence but really, were smart enough to know the difference between reality and fantasy. besides i know a girl who's wiccan, i also didnt know it truly existed untill i met her, and i dont think shes read a real book in her life.
I sent a comment to the blog part of her site 2 days ago and it still isn't up. At this point it's probably not going to be. I think it's hilarious how so many people on here sent them comments and a grand total of 12 comments are shown. Obviously all of our comments are inappropriate because they defend the evil that is Harry Potter.
I don't understand this women she is so stupid! I agree with Emerson 100% She should just give up! I mean dosn't she relize that she isn't going to win. But, lets give her some credit I mean after all we are all evil people! (sarcasim) (sp?)
I am sorely tempted to write this email to her, but I'm afraid the next topic on her website will be Harry Potter makes kids sarcastic: "Dear Mrs. Mallory "If you do not want to read the HP books or allow your kids to read them because you think they promote the occult, that's your choice. However, I don't think it's a good choice, and this is why: I am a brainwashed person who was wrenched away from my Roman Catholicism faith by the evil of Harry Potter and got caught up in the occult. Even though the books never mention the devil, I was still led to the devil by them. Please help me. . .. My soul is wasting away as we speak, but I cannot support you directly as my HP cult leaders will find out in by their crystal ****, (which they learned how to do from the very accurate fortune teller Professor Trelawney from the books [she won't get the joke]), and sacrifice my arm in our next blood ritual during the full moon . . . Help me! "P.S. In case you didn't notice, I am being awfully sarcastic throughout this entire message"
I think we should take this moment and pray that Laura Mallory will get a life.
I just wrote Laura Mallory an e-mail (okay, so maybe more like a short essay). I only wish that I could write so much for my research report!
this is what i had to say on her website: I think you trying to get rid of the Harry Potter books is a discrace. I've been reading Harry Potter for years and years... and not ONCE have I thought about practicing witchcraft. God has ALWAYS been my #1. I attend church every week, go to youth meetings, in church choir, and i'm in peer ministry (do you think I hate God?) Infact, I have a book that's called "Harry Potter according to the Gospel" and it's a very good book. I borrowed it from my youth leader at church. You should try looking for it sometime and give it a read. I seriously doubt you have many supporters in this debate... too many people like Harry Potter (and that DOESN'T mean that they're supporting the devil). Seriously... you're not going to get very far in this, Harry Potter will always be in library shevles if kids want to read them. Good Luck though!!! ~HPFreak~
http://blog.myspace.com/r enaissance_princess Ch eck out my Blog and Rant about Miss Mallory. She's insane.
let's hope that the book releases asap before this girl gets out of hand. This woman should be hung on a crucifix and be soaked in oil and burned alive. Honestly, who in their right mind would take this fantasy so seriously? Dumbass.
i want to use silencio on that girl.
Well, siru, looks like you got your wish!!
I wrote in. Of course. If anyone wants to see, visit Kitiara on Myspace.com. I will post it on a Potter blog. Since I've already ranted about her there before. She makes some valid points, which still make her seem like a bigot who thinks that only Christians have values and no one else does.
Well said, Emerson.
She's complaining about there being no God in schools. All I have to say is Seperation of Church and State, and NOT EVERYONE FOLLOWS THE SAME RELIGION. And-wow!-some people aren't a religion at all!! I don't follow a religion, but I have absolutely NO PROBLEM with people who do! I do, however, have a problem when people try to push their religion on others. I'm guessing her kids are at a public school..so send them to a christian one. There, end of problem.
I believe that if this woman is Brain Active, she would know all the things she is claiming, where around long before Harry Potter. And if she took the time to read the Books, she will find, that the story line has NOTHING to do with what she is claiming. Drugs/Gangs. Its a Normal Wizarding school, not much diffrent to our schools today, just without the Magic. lol I am in my 40's and I brought these books for my daughter[ age 14] and she got me into them, and now we read them together. We are a church going family, my daughter and I believe in our Lord and these Books do not in anyway influence my child's behaviour she see it as a great story, written by JK Rowling who has a great talent, she has captured peoples Imaginations . The occult[ not sure if I spelt it right] Witches, Wizards and alike have been there 1000's years before these Books, and I believe there will be around a 1000 years after. So I would say Grow Up , Mrs Laura Mallory and either stop this stupidness or read the books and know what there about. Before she[ you] opens her mouth.
I would also like to add. I am a british citizen, living in the USA. [ past 6 years, and coming home soon, :) Here in the US; religion is Not taught at school, so maybe her appoached should be to have Relgious Classes [ not that I agree with that either, as I believe that its always a one way appoach] instead of downing something she blanting knows nothing about. Funny really they don't teach religion and yet I have know them to teach about Evolution should they not both go hand in hand. hmmm

oh... come on you've got to pity the idiot... think how much hate mail shes getting (hee hee) i alone posted 3 quite long rants (very satisfying)- but shes ... well i suppose you can take it two ways? insane and stupid, or stupid insane and hillarious. :P
She must must be living by the words of Thomas Edison... "I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that do not work." Unfortunately, there's a point where you have to ask yourself, "Why have I failed 10,000 times? Am I completely alone on this? Are there no other crazy people in this world who are willing to help me?"
Okay, I'm all for standing up for what you believe in and taking full-force advantage of your first amendment rights, but crackpots like Laura Mallory are seriously making me lose my faith in the human race. Kudos to Emerson on the 'winners never quit, quitters never win' remark. That woman's an idiot to the highest degree.
Wow. I was interested in the occult way before I ever figured out how awesome HP is. But occult does not equal evil. Wicca/witchcraft is a peaceful and obviously misunderstood religion, no less valid than any other. It has little to do with HP and absolutely NOTHING to do with violence, drugs, or any of that other stuff she wants out of schools (no argument there). What a complete nutbag.
I'm not going to be a critic and I don't think that we should be openly insulting her. Obviously she has gone a little, no wait, ALOT overboard. How dare she accuse Harry Potter of promoting Satanism! Sure yah, go up to say, Bin Laden and ask "Why are you so evil?". He'll reply and say "I spent 5 years reading Harry Potter!" Really, come on people. The people who criticize the books are the ones that have never read them. There is a very fine line between good and evil in the books. Here's an interesting fact. Pope John Paul II said that the Harry Potter books were good for children because they promote good moral values and a distinction between good an evil. I myself am a devout Christian, although not Catholic. I find it amusing that the pope of the Catholic religion promoted Harry Potter while alot of other Catholics said it was "of the devil". Honestly, come on. Another problem she has is that she doesn't understand about us kids and teens. We know the difference between good and evil, and between fantasy and the real world. She underestimates us and tries to run our lives. Go ahead for all I care, prohibit your children from reading Harry Potter. You have every right as a parent to do that. But do not try to make other people's children follow you like a prophet. I tried to contact Mallory giving her the points I have discussed here. So far she has failed to contact me. I think I've made my point.
one word descibes this lady perfectly. IDIOT!
