Mallory: I must not quit
For the first time since she embarked on a relentless campaign to remove Potter from Gwinnett county's school libraries in August 2005, Laura Mallory has spoken out in detail about her motives. In a new article, she slams "myths" such as "this is a one-woman fight" and "witchcraft is just harmless fantasy." She writes that young children have been indoctrinated into witchcraft, causing their lives to be ruined. Furthermore, she implies that Potter is the reason for "violence, drugs, gangs, addictions, perversions" in schools nowadays, and that "we need God in America again."
In response to the question, "Do you believe Harry Potter promotes Wicca," JKR replied in a 2001 interview with this: "That's not true. Not once has a child come up to me and said, 'Due to you I've decided to devote my life to the occult.' People underestimate children so hugely. They know it's fiction. When people are arguing from that kind of standpoint, I don't think reason works tremendously well. But I would be surprised if some of them had read the books at all [Mallory hasn't].
"Witches and wizards are a huge part of children's literature; it'll never go away. Hundred years, two hundred years' time there'll be another kind of wizard story."
You can now contact Ms. Mallory at her website. Also, we don't plan to post anything Mallory-related until a verdict of her current case arrives.
Emerson's Comment: Winners never quit and quitters never win. But those who never win and never quit are idiots.

Do I believe Harry Potter promotes Wicca? No way. Speaking from a Wiccan's point of view I strongly disagree. It's just some woman who has nothing better to do with her time than to try and force her ideas upon others. Harry Potter is just a book! If she would take the time to read it, which I'm sure she has plenty of time on her hands, then she would see it has nothing to do with converting children into any other religion. And by the way, if she took the time to actually research Wicca she would find that it is a peaceful religion that is based upon the energies of the Earth. There is no devil worshipping because most Wiccans believe that there is no devil. So if you're going to be a lunatic, please do it in the confinements of your own home. And for all of you out there...if you're thinking of publishing a book about magic and fantasy, watch out! Mallory will come to get you!
Here is what I wrote to them at their homepage: "I just wish to tell you that trying to have the Harry Potter books removed from the libraries is a waste of time and money. It will not happen. The books are very popular and they do not make people want to be a follower of Satan or what else nonsence you are convinced of. The books teach the reader about good and evil in a way that makes the reader want to be on the good side. I have read all the books many times and I still believe in God. I do not want to stop being a Christian. It is just fiction. You must have faith, your children can tell reality from fiction. They are not stupid. Harry Potter is just a way for you to be seen in the media, but you become the "bad guys" in this case. Why don't you use your money more wisely, donate them to the hurricane Katrina victims instead. They need it." :D
laura mallory:''...hhhmmm everywhere i look children(and teenagers) are smiling,i dont like this....oh good god its worse than i thought are those books they're holding. children reading and heaven forbid, enjoying it. there must be a stop put to this once and for all im not having all this happiness. (and i can get a few precous moments in the public eye)'' laura your a bloody idiot, get a life. your talking rubbish and not being very christian either....sooooo go away your getting very annoying. im not american and she annoys me so living in the usa where shes poping up all over the place must be very annoying. she should just read the books and if she still doesnt like them then....then just go away anyway its none of her business what other pepole do. im sure lots of people dont like the books but we dont hear them complaining in our ears. thank you for your time!!
this is what I sent to her (she probably will be so swamped with hate mail that she won't even see it, but it made ME feel better) GRRR I can't stand that woman! Mrs. Mallory, I am a Christian. I believe in God. I believe that Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood to pay for my sins. That said, I love the Harry Potter series. Your arguments are lacking any substantial basis. If you were to actually read the books you would see this, and see how off base you really are with your assessment of these books. They do not, in any way, shape or form, "teach and promote witchcraft, Wicca, a U.S. Gov't recognized religion." (You might ask yourself why JK Rolwing, a CHRISTIAN from ENGLAND would want to promote a religion she doesn't practice from a country she doesn't live in...) You are making yourself out to be an uneducated fool. Even more, you are turning people OFF from Christianity and God. I do have a question for you. Why just Harry Potter? There are witches and/or magic in the majority of children's literature (and quite a bit of classical and adult literature as well... Macbeth, anyone?). Harry Potter has overall themes of Love prevailing over Evil, but many other books you aren't attacking don't have redeeming qualities such as that. So why Harry?
There's a saying that everyone who has ears has heard. Don't judge a book by it's cover. It really makes me judge the human race when a grown woman does just that. She judged the harry potter book by what she's heard and seen of the books. She has NEVER attempted to pick up a book read it and see what the books are truly about. Maybe if everyone did this they would realize Harry Potter isn't ALL about witchcraft and see it has a more deeper tone to it. And saying that these books have started gangs and violence is a poor excuse to use because the only things starting gangs and violence are idiotic people like her. She's spent so long of her life trying to ban these books that will obviously never get banned and the sad thing is her children probably barley spend time with her because all she's worried about is protecting people from a book that they ought not be protected from. I hope her children won't turn out to be like her because the world does not deserve another Mallory, another person who judges a book by it's cover....
Here's What I Put: Hi, I am guessing that Laura Mallory is a part of running this website. I am Catholic and HUGE Harry Potter Fan. What you do not understand is that the children that are saying that they "could wish that they could ride brooms or bully other kids with spells" is things that children want to do (Face It- We would all love to fly), and things like bullying other people showes that the person has been bullied and wants revenge and how cool is it to put them under a tickling Spell?! You Are taking this way to seriously. Concerned, -Will (I feel SOOOOO Bad For Her Kids)
excellent point harrypotteretard!! Laura Mallory definitely gets idiot of the year reward
chemo_man - Lol! Haha that is great! Okay, this freaking lady is insane. Harry Potter is the reason for drugs and violence and gangs in schools?? WTF??? There isn't anything about ANY of those topics in the books. Is this Mallory lady like, insane? Literally? I think there's probably something wrong with her. She needs to be kept in a white room or something. Before she accuses the books like that, why doesn't she READ THEM FIRST??? What a effing concept. Wow. Seriously. I don't even know what to say. I think Harry Potter is a reason that people DON'T get into drugs and gangs. Geez.
Why wont she see it's hopeless? If they banned Harry Potter at my school, I'd carry around HBP all day. That woman needs St. Mungo's Mental Care facility, if they have one. I'm not to worried, though, I believe the cour's sick of her and will just go no, no, and finally no.
This is a copy of the email I sent Mallory. Under name, I put George W. Bush and under address, I put 1600 NW Pennsylvania Ave. For subject, I put "prayer/need." On behalf of Jesus Christ, I am praying that you will stop your ban of the Harry Potter books. If He could see you right now, He would loose faith in the human race.
sent her a good piece of my mind...ugh stupid people...children do drugs because parents like her put mre energy in getting books banned instead of taking care of their children...
God, her kids must be so embarrassed.
This is what I wrote is Ms. Mallory: To Ms. Laura Mallory, I would like to start off this e-mail by first saying I am a devoted Roman Catholic, (and Christianity has been in my family, I would say, for quite some time, seeing as my ancestors came to America from different parts of Italy) and although my life as a high school student can get quite busy at times, I strive to make Church a major priority every Sunday. Yes, to be honest, I miss Church sometimes; however, having said that, I make God a part of my life every day. I pray to Him multiple times, and not just insignificantly at meals, I take the time to actually prey to Him. I pray for everything I have, the miracle of life He has so generously blessed me with...and to keep going on would no doubt take up the rest of this e-mail, where I shall start making my point. There is a theme, that surely you have spotted, in Christianity. And like both you and I know, it is good vs. evil. On that note, I would like to relate to you my story of Harry Potter. I must admit, it was my brother, four years older than I, who began to delve into the fantasy novel first. I don't remember him talking about the book much, or even the next two in the series that he read; I was only seven. I do remember him mentioning, however, how great and intricate the stories were. I never looked up to a person more than I did my brother (and still today it's true), and I wanted to read those books, having only the slightest clue of what they were about, and so I did. I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the first book, at the end of second grade. I didn't understand some of it, to admit, (and how much can kids at age seven understand when reading books ahead of their reading level,) but I got enough out of it to move to the next book and read. Before I knew it, I found myself tearing through the pages of the third, and fourth. When the fifth came out, I read 872 pages in a six day time span, and the sixth in only two. I loved the s...
She has a blog which is really ridiculous and there are some anti-harry potter people arguing about how it promotes witchcraft. I am gonna put a post on her blog. If any of you guys wanna post here is the link: http://blog.hisvoicetoday .org/2007/01/17/welcome.a spx#Comment
Harry Potter, is NOT evil or bad. They are wonderful books! This lady is a nut! If you want to talk about evil and bad things try reading the bible. evilbible.com
The rest of my e-mail (see above) I loved the series, and still do, and am agerly awaiting the arrival of the seventh. Shall I tell you why I love these books? It is for the theme. Yes, I must admit, the element of magic makes the story very fantastical, but do I believe in magic?! Surely not; I have already mentioned what a devoted Christian I am. Let me put it like this. When Harry, in the story, is unfairly treated, do I feel happy because there is magic in the story? No, I get angry at the character whose unfairly, and most of the time harshly, treating him. I have the ability, and have had it since age seven, mind, to distinguish reality from fantasy. You grossly underestimate a child's mind. But more importantly, I don't understand how you can criticize something you so strognly and evidently believe in. No, you say? Take this quote from the fourth book, "Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy..." I would continue the quote, but the rst would not make sense to you, I believe, as you have not read the books. Therefore I shall fill you in. This quote is the epitome of the Harry Potter series, and yet it should look surprisingly familiar to you. Why? Because it the major theme in Christianity - THE major theme. And yet you are so quick to criticize it beyond all belief. I apologize, but I just cannot see how a Christian can deny this theme. I simply cannot.
I actually find this quite funny. She only Targets Harry Potter... yet there are an innummerable amount of books about sorcery that kids read today. Gandalf is a WIZARD, the children of Narnia used MAGIC to cross into the Narnia... innumerable... Then there's TV... Why is she not ranting about Charmed, Buffy, Angel... why not... Why only harry potter? This is insane.... Her website is terrible.... especially the quotes on how Demonic Harry Potter is. Evidently Voldemort is a Demon... The world makes sense.
this woman needs help, doesnt she know there are thousands of books with magic and witches in them! if shes such a god fairing advocate why isnt she attacking lord of the rings, chronicles of narnia, etc. for god sake theres a book out there called " so i wanna be wizard" wat about that!
The REST of my e-mail (see both above posts): And yet I do not see you making such a fuss over books that involve wars and fighting: The Lord of the Rings, perhaps? And you do not dare touch these books, nor any other of the kind, because they are classics - because they promote an even greater theme in the background of it all: good VS evil. Books such as these stand for something much more than what you see for them at face value. The Harry Potter books suggest some of the most Christian-like themes than perhaps any other novel of the age. I have heard many of the news stories surrounding your fight, and I cannot help to think that this battle has turned into one big publicity stunt. This fight of yours is nonsensical, and this is coming from a devout Roman Catholic. Please listen, and may God bless you.
she implies that Potter is the reason for "violence, drugs, gangs, addictions, perversions" in schools nowadays, and that "we need God in America again." hahahahahaha haha. Yep since Harry Potter has been out.. ive been wantin to get into gangs.. do drugs n start violence.. its all Harrys fault! its not the media at all.. its not my choice at all its all harrys fault! wat a stupid lady.. i swear sumone should jus tell her to shut the heck up already. i think we should all get together.. and when she is sleepin tie her down n make her lsiten to the HP books on audiobooks or we will jus read them to her cuz seroiusly.. she really needs to get her facts straight on this one she is makin herself look like a darn fool. ok im done
I also think it is funny that Jo hasn't even publicly acknowledged this woman.... Maybe she's waiting for it to blow up in her face.
its funny cause im baptist christian and my grandfather is a retired pastor and i LOVE harry potter. even my grandfather and grandmother like harry potter. oh yeah and i dont do drugs, im not in a gang, nor am i a pervert, and im probably one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. she really needs to read the books before she opens her fat mouth. and maybe spend some time with her kids to make sure they dont do drugs or anything else. cause when i was in high school i was deffinatly doing drugs. i wasnt in a gang or anything but it was before i ever even heard of harry potter. and i was in high school nearly 10 years ago. SHES SO DUMB!!!! HONESTLY I MEAN HOW CAN SHE THINK THAT HP IS THE REASON KIDS DO DRUGS, ARE IN GANGS, ARE VIOLENT, (AND A PERVERT?)????? where does she even get pervert from. i mean ok i can see people getting violent cause of a new book release. SHES SO DUMB!!!! ok i think im going to go give her a piece of my mind.
First how can she be so against something she has never read herself. That is really stupid on her behave because how can she even prove the things she is saying about the Harry Potter series. Plus has she ever noticed that the Harry Potter Series is under the FICTION section. Hello?!?!?! FICTIONAL BOOK!!!! Not real! Not to mention her statement about needing God in America. I am a Christian who full believes in Jesus Christ as my Savior (not trying to push this on anyone... just my beliefs) and I LOVE Harry Potter. I have never once thought about turning to wicca or witchcraft. I have been reading the books since I was 14 (I am now 20). Plus the friends I know who do practice wicca don't even like the Harry Potter series because it is giving their beliefs a bad reputation because of people like her. The whole drugs, gangs and so on... please! She is just trying to grab onto anything that could keep her case going. I have all the FAITH in the world that her case will go nowhere and children will be able to read, imagine and enjoy Harry Potter. Main points: Harry Potter is fictional for entertainment purposes only. If you don't like the series then you don't have to read it, but don't take the series away from children who might be interested it in and want to read it. We want to promote children reading and not taking books away from them. Harry Potter Rules and Mallory Drools!
Why does everybody always assume kids can't tell the difference between fact and fiction? I mean, I read PS/SS when I was eight or nine, (and if kids can get through PS/SS I think Laura Mallory would be able to), and it was very clear to me that it was a fictional story and I didn't suddenly develop a burning desire to go join a Satanic cult or the occult, (mostly because it concerns MAGIC and not SATANISM, and the themes--love, free will, tolerance--are very Christian, I think. Plus, there's the MINIATURE fact that J. K. Rowling happens to belong to the Church of Scotland).
Mallory, Ok just so you know, I believe what your doing is really stupid. The whole Harry Potter thing, seriously? You really need to read the harry potter books because I don't know what your idea of witchcraft is that seriously, you are making a darn fool of yourself. your stupid to think if the children of the world are doin witchcraft just because of a fantasy book. i feel sorry for your children they have to live with a pyshotic religious mother like you. Get over banning the books, its not going to happen so many kids read them, i believe your doing this cause you are hard headed and you dont want to lose because you realize how much of a fool you made yourself. get over it and move on, life is to percious to be full of hate over something sooo little. well i'm done bye ((thats what i said to her.. seriously i want to jus slap her into reality))
It's so great to see all of us standing up to this woman... I feel fuzzy inside... where's Eric? ;)
shes crazy
i agree with all u guys....she's an idiot...i don't have any words to explain about her....what's the matter with her...u know...as jo said...we should avoid her...just forget about her...n don't put any of her news in muuglenet...i hope she will shut her mouth!
Sarcastic response to this-- Oh yeah me and my friends do crack. We do it becuase Harry potter does it and it's cool. Remember when Ron and hermione were cooking some in moaning murtles bathroom? Well right after that I was like- lets do Crack! I can definately point a finger at this part of harry potter for the cuase of my drug use. and don't forget Hagrid Magical forest of marajuana! remember when Professor Mcgonagall take all the students how to make heroin in this forest? OH AND HOW COULD I FORGET ABOUT THE D.A.? THE DRUG ADMINISTRATION!!!!
Hmm, should I comment on her wesbite?? Probably will, I mean how can someone be so, so, well, I can't think of a word to descibe her! I live in a mostly Christian and Catholic community, but nothing of the magnitude has *ever* occured! Almost every bookstore has release parties, and there are midnight showings all over the towns in our conunty, as well as nearby ones! Ban your kids from reading the books, but don't ruin it for other people! Off to comment.....
lol @ "and don't forget Hagrid Magical forest of marajuana!" by felixfelicis888! I had to stifle a laugh cause I'm at work! Anyway we know she hasn't read any of the books fully but in her blog the administrator wrote that she's read sections of the books. Probably means she's only read a sentence here and there.
Oh would she ever just shut up and go away?
Next she'll be saying Skittles commercials make kids commit suicide!
I just finished commenting, although I fear it'll be too long for her tiny, simple brain to comprehend. I might've been a bit overly cruel, but we must defend our marvelous HP and in such, JK Rowling, no? Here's my comment: Laura Mallory, You are quite a bigot, if I may say so. Slamming books just because of their content. You say the Harry Potter books are horrible, but what about other books containing magic? Should classics like "Macbeth" and fairy tales be banned as well?? "Harry Potter" inspires people, if anything. I wasn't into reading books until one of my teacher started reading the first book allowed. I'm sixteen now, and been hooked on HP for almost ten years. It's because of Harry Potter that I started writting, inspried by JK Rowling's tale. The books have inspired many to both read and write. How, then, are they evil?? I can understand parents disallowing their children from reading "Harry Potter", but banning it for other children as well? That goes above and beyond anything. I'm a Christian myself, and my mother is a Christian, my father Catholic. My town, as well as county, is mostly Christian and Catholic, yet whenever a new book or movie is released, fans come out in droves. You haven't even picked up the books to read, so how can you know what they're about?? And because of their legnth, at that! What did you do in school when you had to read classics that are much longer than HP?? And honestly, how are a bunch of people running around in Harry Potter robes, waving fake wands and shouting "Experillamuis" and "Stupefy" considered witches?? It's play-acting if anything. And if you think Harry Potter fans are simply idiots who do nothing but read, write, and obesses over HP, think again. The founder of mugglenet (the biggest HP fansite), is at college and still manages to help with the site. I'm taking AP and honors classes (including literature), and although don't have much time between band, choir, and school, stil...
I roll my eyes at you Laura Mallory
"I'm just curious what was responsible for 'violence, drugs, gangs, addictions, perversions' in schools before Harry Potter was created. My faith tells me that God would not have his people stricken with fear at Childrens Literature. If your going to attack anything, why not go after real cults...unless you fear taking on something that is truly evil. Your time would be better served trying to feed the millions of starving children in the world, instead of attacking something that has introduced so many children to a love of READING. I'm sorry if you were never swept away in a good book. I can understand if that would make you jelious of your younger counterparts... Thank you for your time. "P.S. Disney is adiment about not putting God into anything they create. And every other movie has some form of witchcraft or wizardry in it...but I bet you let your childern watch those movies when they were younger. Aladin, Cinderella, SnowWhite..." That was my message...some people have no sense in their heads...it's just sad...
How funny, she has no resources on her site. The page is "under construction". Could this be because she has no fact to back her up? Hahaha. It's not like she can post the bible as a resource, unless it was a very vague generalization about witchcraft.
I wonder if she thinks Shakespeare and Disney are horrible. Probably.
Mallory's accusations and failed attempts to make Rowling look like a promoter of wicca just scream "mommy and daddy didn't give me any attention growing up!"
I'm sure it has already been posted at least a few times but why isn't this woman and everyone else who has been slamming these books noticing the significant number of children who are READING not because their schools made them but because they CHOSE to pick up the book (and it's larger than most books) and actually read them. .sarcasm. Think of the children! JK Rowling is promoting reading to our children's, come on everyone hide the books! The children are reading and enjoying it... Give it up you silly woman this world needs more books that strike interest in the children, specially in a world where video games rules. Props to Ms. Rowling ^_^
The Ku Klux Klan has a homepage as well. The two sites are oddly similar. And as for Harry Potter causing gangs and violence, absolutely! There wasn't any of that before these books, afterall, reading does that to people.
This is the message I sent to her: Dear Mrs. Mallory, Alright, you're probably getting a lot of this from people already, but I just wanted to say my peice. First of all, I'm a devout Christian (Pentacostal if you want to go into denominations) and God is and always will be the BIGGEST thing in my life. I was not always a Christian. I had doubts because of the PEOPLE at my old church, so I got into real witchcraft. Wicca, is what it's really called. A religion in which you worship the moon and the earth and the only "spells" that are cast are merely rituals for peace. There's no latin words that make things fly. Do you see where I'm going with this? I'll continue. I'm 18 years old right now. I have officially been saved for about 2 and a quarter years. God has really done some wonderful things in my life. I will NEVER turn away from God. NEVER. I am a Harry Potter fanatic. Harry is a FICTIONAL character who doesn't partake in real witchcraft. He's a normal teenager who has to deal with battling evil. He uses FAKE witchcraft, yes, but it's FAKE. Not real. FAKE. Lord of the Rings uses it too, however, no one makes a big deal about Lord of the Rings because JRR Tolkein was an open christian. Does that mean that his books are less evil? Even though he uses the witchcraft? What about CS Lewis? And, directly to you, it's not the books that are keeping christianity out of America, it's extremists like you. You make people look DOWN upon God because "Christians can't read Harry Potter or dance or have fun" Up until aobut the mid 70's, Christianity kept up with modern things. But now, it's just a bunch of old people trying to discourage funand imagination. I'm greatful thta my church isn't like that, but it's how my old church was. The one that turned me to witchcraft. Not Harry Potter. I haven't always liked Harry. I used to think it was a stupid concept, but then I gave it a chance. Maybe if you give it a chance, you'll ...
Despite the fact that I could pretty much narrate all six books without looking at them, can someone please tell me where it says, completely un-Harry-relatedly, "kids, drugs and alcohol are good!" because I must have missed that bit.
Continued from last post: see. Don't judge something unless you've read it. There are no subliminal messages saying "Be a wiccan" or anything stupid like that. Their just books. Seriously lady. Get a grip on reality. Thank you.
I emailed her saying: Why is Harry Potter the only book you fight against. Bearing in mind thi is a topic of which you are woefully ignorant. I adore Harry Potter and my life is the better for it. Your comment on Harry Potter promoting drugs, gangs etc is completely false. People who are in gangs and who do drugs are, for the large part, illiterate. If they took an interest in Harry Potter that would then (as it has done for many children) introduce them to wider varieties of literature and they would become educated. Sadly Harry Potter has not saved these people. I think you may find that the majority of thugs and bullies however, will call themselves Christian. Please take your time to become educated on the topic you so eagerly discuss (Harry Potter) or is your faith not strong enough to withstand a work of fiction? How you raise your children is up to you but other parents must have a choice. There is no room for dictatorship. I certainly know that there is no room for me in a religion such as Christianity if i have to share the same views as someone who incites hate to other religions. You woefully misunderstand Wicca, i myself have an interest in all religions and have researched Wicca, it is plainly obvious you have not done the same. Do you think God praises those who incites hate of other people's religious choices? If the God you worship would send someone to hell for reading fiction and enjoying fantasy literature i will not worship under the same religion. The God i would choose to worship would praise all of good morality, whether they worship the trees, whether they read Harry Potter, whatever religion they choose to be lead to God by.
'Potter is the reason for "violence, drugs, gangs, addictions, perversions" in schools nowadays' I've never heard of such complete rubbish in my life, its just laughable at how stupid shes being!!!!!! Im sure theres something wrong with that woman, i mean doesnt she hav anything betta 2 do with her life then 2 complain about a book she hasn't even read before, 4 gods sake!!!
Is it just me or is she wasting her time on something that really isn't a big issue! IF she wants to take HP out of schools it will mostlikely cause a drop in reading among students. I am soo happy about HP because it gets kids interested in reading. I know becaues I am one of those kids. If this lady really wants to make a difference in kids lives by helping stop drugs violence and all that crud then she should be a volunteer or somthing like that. If you look at it logicaly HP actually occupies kids so they are LESS likely to have time for smokign, drugs ect. Does she even realize this? (sorry for the longness of this post)
Why must she waste her time? A woman with that much determination could make a big difference if she spent her time doing something USEFUL. She could help a charity or something like that, but instead she tries to ban a children's book.... Here's a thought: tons of little kids spend their time watching violent TV and playing video games where the sole object is to kill people. And Laura Mallory attacks a kid's book because it onvolves some teenagers waving wands.
Just thinking more about this woman makes me mad. Besides everything else, such as the fact that the Harry Potter books bear no relation to real life witchcraft, Wicca itself is a NON VIOLENT religion. It states clearly in its creed that harm to one's self or to another can not be tolerated. If a 'Wiccan' youth were to go round on a bloodied rampage, then by default they could not be a true Wiccan. This is not to say that there are not any people who may have an interest in the occult and an unpleasant nature, but those people could just as easily have been supposed Christians or atheists. The poison here is innate and not a product of what really is a mixture of an old fashioned Boarding School yarn and the classic 'Good triumphs over Evil' narrative mode.
Im emberassed that someone can actually feel this strongly about something they clearly (and admit to) do not understand at all. Some of these "quotes" are obviously out of context. Not to mention they include 'Draco' and 'Hermes' (Hermione?) in the list of real demons. Draco is simply Latin, so is all Latin evil Mallory? And Jo has told us where Hermione's name cam from, its has nothing to do with demons.
