Mallory: I must not quit
For the first time since she embarked on a relentless campaign to remove Potter from Gwinnett county's school libraries in August 2005, Laura Mallory has spoken out in detail about her motives. In a new article, she slams "myths" such as "this is a one-woman fight" and "witchcraft is just harmless fantasy." She writes that young children have been indoctrinated into witchcraft, causing their lives to be ruined. Furthermore, she implies that Potter is the reason for "violence, drugs, gangs, addictions, perversions" in schools nowadays, and that "we need God in America again."
In response to the question, "Do you believe Harry Potter promotes Wicca," JKR replied in a 2001 interview with this: "That's not true. Not once has a child come up to me and said, 'Due to you I've decided to devote my life to the occult.' People underestimate children so hugely. They know it's fiction. When people are arguing from that kind of standpoint, I don't think reason works tremendously well. But I would be surprised if some of them had read the books at all [Mallory hasn't].
"Witches and wizards are a huge part of children's literature; it'll never go away. Hundred years, two hundred years' time there'll be another kind of wizard story."
You can now contact Ms. Mallory at her website. Also, we don't plan to post anything Mallory-related until a verdict of her current case arrives.
Emerson's Comment: Winners never quit and quitters never win. But those who never win and never quit are idiots.

I wonder if she was dropped as a small child...?
This is why it's good to be an Atheist.
OH MY GOD! WILL THIS WOMAN EVER SHUT UP?!
haha, i read one of the essays on her site...completly rediculus! here's one of the quotes: "'See what I have become?' the face said. 'Mere shadow and vapor...I have form only when I can share another's body...but there have always been those willing to let me into thei hearts and minds...Unicorn blood has strengthened me, these past weeks...' (this is clearly demon possession and nothing else)" ya think! if she had read the books then she would know that jkr made it clear the "the face" was evil, and harry was trying to stop it! and that harry does temperarily stop it! also, she has no right to protest against the wiccan religion! not only does it go against the u.s. constitution, but she doesn't know anything about it!
after she realizes this is futile...whats she gonna ban next...cinderella? her fairy God mother turned the pumpkin into a carriage...now our little children will go into pumpkin patches and try to do magic....OH NO!!...she needs a life...if not...she should at least read more than ...how much has she read....oh yeah...NONE OF IT!!....read it...thats all i ask
Read the books (all of the books, not simply the parts of them that actually shows someone performing a spell) please before you start making FALSE accusations against a beloved series and the millions of people worldwide who read them. If you had actually read Harry Potter, you would see that the books do not focus on the fact they live in a magical world, and is in no way trying to convert its readers to the Wicca religion (not that there is anything wrong or blasphemous about the Wicca religion). The books stand for family, friendship, loyalty, and the fight against good and evil. It deals with issues that face all teenagers growing into adults; starting a new school, receiving good grades, dating, falling in love for the first time, deciding what career to go into after school. It also looks at the not-so-nice side of our present society; racism, terrorism, wars, genocides. J.K. Rowling creatively addresses all of these issues throughout her series, and does it in such a smart and personal way that readers of all ages cannot help but feel for these characters and what they are faced with everyday. The major religions practiced today all worship the same God, which is not surprising considering that most of these religions' symbols and biblical stories originated from the many different pre-Christian pagan beliefs (which I know you will vehemently deny, but evidence cannot be ignored--well for the most part, i.e.: Creation vs. Evolution). Shout out to my ancient hominid ancestors!!! I am not a witch, nor do I ever plan on practicing the Wicca religion. I care more about whether Ron or Hermione are ever going to get together than that someone is performing a cleaning spell on their room so they will not get in trouble by their mom. Your actions show such a complete disrespect and lack of FAITH in your fellow human beings. You should be ashamed of yourself, and need take a long look at your own life before you start preaching to others how to live...
I just commented on her site telling her (in a respectful way) to STFU. You can't be stupid about stuff like this. The only way to approach ignorant people is calmly and rationaly. Calling her an idiot will not make her change her opinion...just saying.
I once visited a website that you can view quotes from various people such as Pat Robertson... ANYWAY this website had a special button that you could click on, and all the words in the quotes such as witchcraft, Wicca, homosexuals, etc were replaced with the words Judaism, jews, blacks, etc. Think about it............ Furthermore, how on earth does Harry Potter promote violence, gangs, and drugs? A child with a book in his hand is a child without a gun in his hand. As a devout Alexandrian Wiccan, I'm suprised that anyone could confuse a fictitious story concerning good and evil with a religion that stresses equality, peacefulness, and understanding (among other things)..... another thing (I swear after this I'm done) is that certain sections of the BIBLE promote violence (ie Exodus 22:18) I don't see how someone could condone passages that tell people they should kill people, and then turn around and accuse a children's story of promoting violence.
It's a shame she's pretty hot. lol
Wow. Tact is the name of the game, eh? Three points: 1. *cough*separation of church and state*cough*. This issue was covered ages ago. "Are they ready to put the Bible and prayer back in our schools and classrooms and read it aloud?" If I correctly recall, there are two Catholic schools within ten miles of my house. If Bible-reading is what you want, Catholic School is a veritable goldmine of Jesus/God-ness. Anyway, there are over 23 religions in America, and you expect all of them to pray to your particular diety? 2. "Witchcraft"? WITCHCRAFT? Thank you, Laura, really. You have successfully recreated the mindset of the seventeenth century. Bringing up Wicca is completely off-topic. As I stated before, there are over 23 religions in America, and even more in the rest of the world, and just because Wiccans happens to practice witchcraft doesn't mean that the Harry Potter books and Wicca are innately related. 3. Harry Potter encourages young minds. Because of Harry Potter, kids want to read, instead of being forced to read. Maybe, just maybe, that is why it is used in the classroom. Rant over.
Hey, we can make comments over here ---> http://blog. hisvoicetoday .org ... and they actually respond to them
Please tell Mrs. Mallory to READ The Harry Potter books before deciding that she wants to spread her propaganda to everyone. We are all sick of hearing it; Christians and non-Christians alike are sick of these over zealous, hypocritical people trying to inhibit our rights as individuals to read and feel the way we feel is right within us, not what you think is right based on the antiquity of your doctrine. You wouldn't preach the Bible without reading it, now would you? I just wrote them that. I won't inhibit her right to think/ feel what she wants...but she can not dictate that to all in the name of religion....because I live in a red state (GA) I was actually surprised that sooo many people were outraged about this here! That is great that Harry Potter can cross many political and religious divisions and still have people on all sides defending it's right to readers..... :D keep the emails going to her!
Spam her! Spam her! Spam her!
Lol, Good idea lumina_lights. Hooray for spam!
Yo my Mugglenet gang: dogs, peeps, bruthas, sistuhs, whuteva. Let's get high and go beat up innocent people like the Harry Potter books tell us to! Man, that dirty Harry Potter is one straight up thug 4 life yo. Never mind the fact that we don't actually know what the HP books tell us to do cuz we 2 ignorant 2 read them. Books iz fo suckaz yo, fo sho! Word up to my sistuh and fellow HP-gang-member L-Mallory cuz she be keepin it real and tryin to ban them books that she 2 ignorant 2 read. Major props to her. Keep it real! HP-Thugz 4 life! PROPOSITION: LET'S ALL CALL LAURA MALLORY "L-Mall" FROM NOW ON CUZ SHE BE STRAIGHT UP GANGSTER FIGHTIN IT OUT ON THE STREETS WHERE THE REAL TROUBLE IS SO SHE NEED A REAL THUG NAME. Pinball Ghost over and out.
I just wrote a rational comment and I feel so much better, I hope everyone who like Harry should comment on her site and tell her kids around the world are not as stupid as she claims they are
Lol, L-mall!
Oh just stop woman your making yourself look stupid, theres millions of people in this world and your the only one that makes trouble.
Can someone please make this woman read the books so that she'll realize that the main ideia of the entire Harry Potter series is that love conquers evil?! I mean, a year and a half wasn't enough time to read at least one book? She's only making a fool of herself by talking about something she knows nothing about...
Just been to her site. Couldn't stop laughing all the time. Oh, please, that woman is so ignorant it hurts!
I wrote her a nice, long e-mail giving her a rather large chunk of my mind. It felt really, really good. I recomend it to everyone else who can no longer put up with this woman. I can't wait to see if she'll reply to mine or not.:)
I am a devout Catholic, and if any faith believes in the harmfulness of Witchcraft it's Catholicism. That said, I have absolutely no problem with Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer or any of the other things mentioned on that website as drawing young girls to Wicca. Buffy should be saved for mature audiences, and if that were the issue than I'd agree with her 100%, but she's going after a children's book. It is at your parent's discretion to tell you when you are old enough to read something like Harry. It was your parent's mistake if they read it to you when you were three years old and you believed the whole thing was real. Part of the reason for all these problems that she's blaming on Harry Potter is the fact that people like her tend to take responsibility away from the parents. There are so many things that are so much worse than Harry Potter... It seems strange that she focused in on Harry and isn't attacking, say, The Da Vinci Code or His Dark Materials. All that said, putting God back in schools and back in the country is a noble cause. I just wish she wouldn't cheapen it by acting like a fool.
*sigh* It's people like her that give Christians a bad name. We Christians need to do more constructive things than bash a book - we should be translating the Bible into obscure languages and doing missions work, not harping about 'a book of the occult'...
we should all post our opinions over there --> http://blog.hisv oicetoday .org the 'admins' actually respond
"We need God in America again" - wish God will deport her to some obscure place in the middle of nowhere. Like the Marqueasas (sp.?). Good riddance.
I wrote her a kind, rational email just asking some carefully chosen questions. I haven't been to the blog website but I think if we all flooded in there and started calling her and her friends idiots we really wouldn't get anywhere.
^ that is true but we could act rational like the other commentators
Yes, that's probably a good idea : )
And i thought Harry Potter fans over analyse everything! (me included :D) But Laura Mallory and this site have looked sooooooo deeply into the books that they've managed to find hidden meanings that even the most devoted fans haven't found. Promotion of drugs? violence? does this mean that drugs and violence didn't exist before the books? she needs to drop the case now before she humiliates herself and her kids further. oh, and READ the books woman, get a clue
OH MY GOD! I JUST SENT HER THE BEST COMMENT.... PLEASE READ IT AND TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK! HAHAH!!!: Laura (and others who run this website): I would just like to say that this "Harry Potter debate" has really gotten too far. Seriously, give it a rest -- We even debate about YOU in our high school debate class, and how far someone should go in a campagin! Yours is rediculious, and PERHAPS you should pick up a Harry Potter book once in a while!! You cant make false accusations - Basis of the US Judicial system! Maybe you just need to learn that us "Teenagers" arent as stupid as you seem to think we are; we have our own opinions, own beliefs (not necessairly in God!), and can read whatever we like! IN SCHOOL TOO! Lastly, what a bad mistake making a "contact me!" space on your website! Little do you know that Harry Potter fan-sites around the world will be sending you so many messages a day regardding this REDICULIOUS campagin! Laura - I feel sorry for your childern; by reading Harry Potter it has truly made my life better. Thats right, just reading the books. Not praying every night, or going to church on Sundays to worship your God, but reading an innocent childrens book. You'ev deprived your children this (which is regretable) but its neither the schools, NOR YOUR, place to detremine what other kids read. Whose playing God now, Laura? Think about it and feel free to contact me, I'd love to have some more material for our HIGH SCHOOL DEBATE CLASS. Warm regards, Quinn
I know this is going to sound pretty harsh but I think I hate this lady. Not kidding. Freaking... oh well, it's not going to do any good to rant, i suppose.
I just posted like 7 comments on her site as I was reading all of the aricles. It was hillaious to find that even one of her sources said that harry potter probably wasnt the cause for people turning to whichcraft. I AM JUST TRYING TO HELP HER GET A CLUE.
i just messged her: "Hello. Thank you for putting up this website. I can always use a good laugh." :-D but i think Aristophanes says it all, "Youth ages, immaturity is outgrown, ignorance can be educated, drunkenness sobered, but stupid lasts forever."
Young children cant tell the diffrence between fantacy and reality. Laura, did you know that all they CAN do when their born is eat, breath and poop? We learn as we go.
mallory is making a complete a$$ of herself...seriously
ok, i'm a Harry Potter fan, which means i have Potter in my head, so i could be called Potter head, which can be shortened to Pothead . . .ohhhh thats why she thinks we're all on drugs . . . stupid woman, give it up!
This hits me hard. I moved to GA 2 years ago and this place is full of religious freaks who claim that goths are satanists and that The Da Vinci code promotes evil in it's most solid form! I am a wiccan, and have been interested in this religious path since I was 5 or 6, way before I cracked open a Potter book! It's amazing that they let her appeal again, Though GA's trying to pass a law with bible classes that will be mandatory for high school students. Know wonder why my parents have decided to move back to NY!!!!!
This is just my opinion: Faith is a belief and a hope that guides you on a path of well-being. It has no name other than the one you choose to give it, no rules other than the ones of morality, no status other than that which you give it in life. It comes from your heart, it guides you because you want to be a better person, a tolerant person and you care about not harming others, accepting their choices as long as they are not harming others. I don’t give my faith a name but believe that with it, I don't harm others and thus I sleep well at night. if I trust in a higher power I will be supported in my choices, but my choices will be morale and true, harmful to none. Yet some faiths, masquerading under the name of Religion seem at times to be at the heart of every trouble in our world. Religion, I believe may be a very dangerous thing. I have many good friends who call themselves Christians, Catholics, Jews, Hindus because of the faith they have. I love them all and respect their choices to believe as they do. They however do not try to force changes on me through illogical and poorly researched nonsense, nor do I on them. We all accept that we make our own choices in the world and that sadly there are adults out there who make poor choices. What's really ironic about it is that these ‘religious’ people spout from a book they have read. Ok the book they spout from may have been around for thousands of years but it is still quite simply a book. It is several people's interpretations of events that may or may not have happened. And yet it causes war, terror, fear, discrimination, untold human suffering etc. Laura Mallory is trying to ban a series of books she has never read, based on her interpretation of a book she has read (the Bible). How terribly, terribly ironic. What’s also terribly ironic is the HP books teach of loyalty and friendship. Of courage and hope. Of good over evil. My, it sounds just like another book I know…the Bible anyone? The...
Malloroy is only good for making fudge and lemonaid.
Okay that quote on her site about Lenin kind of bothered me. We read Animal Farm in English last year, and Lenin wanted to teach the older generation as well as the young. Stalin was the one who wanted to teach the younger generation to do his bidding. I don't understand how Lenin really works into that. Now Laura Mallory is just getting desperate. Many of these quotes don't pertain to her "struggle" at all.
oh my jeepers. when will this woman shut up? it'd help her case more if she actually read the books, but she hasn't. and i really don't understand how Harry Potter is the reason for "violence, drugs, gangs, addictions, perversions". that stuff has been going on for centuries. why would HP all of a sudden make it more dominant in society? personally, i think she's a bit bonkers...
I enter.. to see if theres something new like OotP promo stuff.. pictures, interviews or even a new trailer or some book 7 info.. and.. I found this .. MALLORY !! for GOD SAKES JUST GIVE UP!! AT LEAST READ THE BOOKS or more easy just see the darn movies !! then say something! GET A LIFE!
The only negative thing the Harry Potter books have "done" is cause jumped-up people like her to turn the series into a scapegoat. Harry Potter is now the reason for violence and drugs? Wow, I'm glad we've solved THAT mystery then! Thank you, Laura Mallory, for opening my eyes!...NOT. It's difficult not to feel insulted by what she's doing when JKR and her books are the reason I (and many others, I'm sure) got to enjoy reading. Heresy! Also, she's implying that the only people who read Harry Potter must obviously be impressionable children (not to mention she clearly thinks kids are idiots). Does she even have an inkling of how many adults are fans of the series? Especially now that people who were kids when the first book came out are now nearing adulthood or even older? "a return to the traditional Judeo-Christian roots upon which our blessed country was founded" I'm thinking someone needs a history lesson, no? As well as an introduction to the 21st century. Yes, let's ban books about bravery, love, strong female characters, and doing the right thing. They're clearly the reason for society's problems.
I'm confused! She seems to think that every single bad thing that has been going on in American schools for decades has been caused by a harmless book series that almost every kid reads?????? She NEEDS to read the books if she thinks that's what's going on in the books, then her eyes will be opened. Oh, and BTW, I believe in God and still read HP...You can be a Christian and still read fictional fantasy, I'm an example of that!!!!!!!
Ugh! Does this woman ever give up? She's giving the rest of us Christians a bad name! Seriously, she just needs to read one of the HP books, and then she'll be fine! I can't believe she's still at it! What's wrong with this woman?!
oh for goodness sakes just let her keep trying. It's free entertainment =]
LOL! If you go to the support page on her website, it says "Page not found". Guess she doesn't have that many people behind her.
I just started a anti Laura Malloy group on Myspace. If you want to join it's at http://groups.myspace.com /antilauramalloy.
Laura Mallory shouldn't get any more attention. Rowling's books do not make children turn to Wicca. That is the dumbest thing I have heard. She needs to learn how kids really think. Kids would at the most, idolize the characters and actors.
If there were ever a time for a nice big STFU, this is it.
