Mallory: I must not quit
For the first time since she embarked on a relentless campaign to remove Potter from Gwinnett county's school libraries in August 2005, Laura Mallory has spoken out in detail about her motives. In a new article, she slams "myths" such as "this is a one-woman fight" and "witchcraft is just harmless fantasy." She writes that young children have been indoctrinated into witchcraft, causing their lives to be ruined. Furthermore, she implies that Potter is the reason for "violence, drugs, gangs, addictions, perversions" in schools nowadays, and that "we need God in America again."
In response to the question, "Do you believe Harry Potter promotes Wicca," JKR replied in a 2001 interview with this: "That's not true. Not once has a child come up to me and said, 'Due to you I've decided to devote my life to the occult.' People underestimate children so hugely. They know it's fiction. When people are arguing from that kind of standpoint, I don't think reason works tremendously well. But I would be surprised if some of them had read the books at all [Mallory hasn't].
"Witches and wizards are a huge part of children's literature; it'll never go away. Hundred years, two hundred years' time there'll be another kind of wizard story."
You can now contact Ms. Mallory at her website. Also, we don't plan to post anything Mallory-related until a verdict of her current case arrives.
Emerson's Comment: Winners never quit and quitters never win. But those who never win and never quit are idiots.

she implies that Potter is the reason for "violence, drugs, gangs, addictions, perversions" I need her to recant her statement that Harry Potter is the gateway drug to drugs, it contradicts my theory that milk is the cause of thses issues. Think about it, everyone who has done drugs and belonged in gangs must have drinken milk at some point in their life. Isn't it obvious that milk is the source of all our problems?
YES! She has a website...now I can go learn about the errors of my ways and free myself from the terrible, terrible ways of wicca. I'm saved. She needs to get a freakin grip...THEY ARE BOOKS WOMAN!!! If she's such a devoted Christian she should go attack EVERY book with witchcraft...maybe she'll finally convert everyone to her perferred religion and save the world. Nothing annoys me more than ignorant, stubborn, cowardly, ignorant, cowardly, ignorant people. For example, someone who tries to ban books because they contain witchcraft which that person believes is teaching America's youth to practice wicca, although they have never read the books=scared of children becoming witches and probably turning her into a frog (but who would want to give frogs such a bad rep), ignorant because she never read the books, stubborn because she can't accept the fact that she can't stop people from reading HARRY POTTER!!!!!! rant over
What amazes me most is that she calls herself a Christian and yet she devotes all of her time and energy to this ridiculous crusade... Why can't she do something normal, like fundraisers or soup kitchens? I am thoroughly embarrassed by her stupidity and her close-mindedness, both as a Christian and an American.
somebody slap her. hard.
Ha ha! I really can't help laughing. If she was really as smart as she thinks she is, she would know that she should have given up on this a LONG time ago. She would also be smart enough to realize that if she's going to make insane claims about the books, she needs the evidence to back it up, which she doesn't have and never will have because it doesn't exist. Does she actually think that she's ever going to win!?
Also, for those of you who say 'Oh I wish I could put a spell on her' or things like that, you're just playing right into her debate. You need to fight ignorance with knowledge, not violence. Another interesting fact that she probably over looked, the courts cannot ban Harry Potter from all libraries. They can give it a rating, but they can't ban it. It goes against the freedom of speech. If they vote against Harry Potter, they'll just be setting the precidence for every other book anyone decides to hate to be banned. The judges know this. She's just wasting everyone's time.

Man I feel like I'm flooding the board tonight. For those of you who like a good bit of research, I believe something you should find amusing: Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix (US Paperback ed) Chapter 26, page 582, the very first sentance. Enjoy.
I'm not even gonna bother to venture to her website. How can she JUST attack Harry Potter? What about Lord of the Rings, etc... There are worse things out there than Harry Potter, and Harry Potter has little influence on people. If anything, it might help people be a better person. This is insane. It's like saying since I like Beelzemon (a Digimon) that I'm gonna worship the devil cause of his name. What bad can become of reading Harry Potter? Not much. You know, I'm so tempted to email her and say she may be taken a little more seriously (a little, not a lot) if she actually read the books. If you want to fight for something you should do research and have examples. Heaven forbid she reads the books and sees shes wrong. Give it up, it's a lost cause. There are better things out there to fight for.
So I wrote a response to her that I will be submitting on her website shortly. Here it is, feel free to help me make it even better with your ideas/advice. By the way, it's long. Forgive me :) ! Response: âYou are raving.â You are incredibly and extremely stupid for trying to ban Harry Potter from schools. You will not succeed. The rest of the world looks at you like youâre some kind of crazed fanatic on a worthless vendetta against books that actually have gotten millions of kids to start reading more and more. In my eyes, you are an extremist. Iâm serious when I say that everyone laughs at you when news about you comes up. But how ignorant would I be if I insulted you and gave no evidence as to why you truly are incredibly stupid? Very. So, I am writing to you to reveal to you the truth. I am in high school and I have read every single book....which gives me room to speak. Unlike you who has not even read the books. That is ignorance and stupidity on every level. Itâs very sad to see a full grown adult who has less brains than the average teenager. The only shining ray of hope is that you are the minority in your foolish beliefs, and that our society thinks you are delirious with idiocy. These books are wonderful stories, but STORIES nonetheless. We have already proved that you are probably more brainless than the average teenager so I think it's safe to say that we teenagers have the brain-capacity to understand that it is a FICTIONAL STORY. And of course, you do not. But even so, this is America. I have a right to read whatever I want. WHATEVER I WANT. You cannot take books out of a library because you think they are bad. This country was not made for you. It was made for everyone. Until your tiny brain can grasp that than you are repeatedly going to be shut down. No one agrees with you. Not that I agree with the Wiccan way, but who are you to deny people the religion they wish to follow. The common misconception people have is that America is a Chr...
â¦istian nation. That it was based on Christianity. That is FALSE. America was made so that people could escape religious persecution in Great Britain. Now the main religion practiced is predominantly Christianity, however, we have, from the beginning, given people their deserved rights allowing them to practice whatever religion they choose. So, no, Miss I am God, you DO NOT have the power to remove these books from schools. Get over yourself. Grow some backbone. And why not do something proactive for the community instead? Instead, you are just leaving behind a community with a bad taste in its mouth. You are just leaving negativity behind in the world and, if you are even remembered at all after you die, you will be remembered as a lunatic. Wait, you say there have been 3000 others who support you in your cause? 3000 other challenges to the Harry Potter series? So is that really a lot of supporters? Hmmm letâs examine this shall we? The United States has a population of 295 million. 3000 supporters is less than .00000000000001 percent of the population. I hate to break it to you, but, this is a one-woman fight. You are utterly alone in this fight. You and your 3000 supporters that are just insecure in their faith and so somehow feel better by creating a personal vendetta against the books; you are so wrong on so many levels. I could go further and examine your 3000 supporters in proportion to the population of the world, but I figure you get the point. Or at least a sane person would understand. And itâs touching that you have made friendships through this vendetta, but what is the relevance of this? Are you somehow saying we should create our own vendetta, perhaps try and rid the world of well-written books with good FICTIONAL stories, make decisions for others because they so obviously arenât competent enough to govern themselves, and specifically what books they read? Advice: donât let your kids read the books then and stop making decisions for others. Speak...
â¦ing of your kidsâ¦do they like you? I ask this kindly and purely out of curiosity. Are they extremely embarrassed by your humiliating behavior? Or are they just as ignorantly blinded, brainwashed, by perhapsâ¦..you? There is a fine line between faith and absolute insanity, and you have breached that line. You may not think so, but you are exactly like those who are so immersed in God that they feel it is necessary to murder someone who is homosexual, or perhaps an unbeliever. You are not God. And isnât claiming to be God a sin? You may not be saying this with your voice, but you are with your actions. You do not get to make calls like these that have effects on others lives. And if you are one who believes itâs acceptable to take a machete to the gay man living next door, than you are simply insane and should probably check yourself into the nearest asylum. But perhaps I should focus on probably the most fundamental argument that you have. This argument being that Witchcraft is wreaking terrible effects on the children of today. Well actually this is completely FALSE, and I would like to see official data that concludes that 1) more children are turning to the Wiccan religion, and 2) the reading of Harry Potter books has a direct correlation with this. Of course you do not have both of these facts, because, of course, there is no more and no less followers of Wicca, and no, Harry Potter has not affected its readers in this way. Wait, so as soon as Harry Potter hit the shelves gangs started cropping up (they named their gang The Harry Potterists, right?), teenagers have started having sexual intercourse (a pastime that they just recently learned about from Harry Potter), or perhaps Harry Potter has started them on a dangerous addiction to marijuana or alcohol (these things surely werenât available to teenagers before Harry Potter was published!?). I assure you that I know of no gangs that have cropped up because of Harry Potter. I suggest you go see the very insigh...
wow I can't believe how far this woman is willing to go. I can't believe she can even judge the books in the first place if she hasn't read them. Im surprised she hasn't gone after the HP movies. I know she's just concerned about children reading these books but what must she think of adults like me that love the HP series. And oh, NOO! Im making it worse by reading the books with my ten year old nephew!!
â¦tful movie âThe Freedom Writersâ. It illustrates the principle reason for the existence of gangs in the U.S. very well. But if somehow this movie does not meet up to your standards or, for some reason I am unaware of attempts made by you to ban this movie from theaters, then I will tell you this reason, thereby letting you save a few bucks. The reason for the existence of gangs is because of people like you. Now Iâm just going to take a wild guess, and correct me if Iâm wrong (Iâll be the first to correct myself if I am proved to be mistaken), and say that you are one of the people who have something against gay people. This discrimination is exactly the same as being discriminatory against blacks, asians, and latino people. The teenagers in âThe Freedom Writersâ come from multiple different ethnic backgrounds. The place where they live is full of violence and hate. Why? Because of discrimination. If you would like to understand discrimination even more I suggest reading Martin Luther Kingâs âLetter from Birmingham Jailâ. But in case you find this text riddled with Wiccan undertones I will tell you myself. MLK explains that violent black nationalists are cropping up because they are fed up with the whites who look the other way when discrimination is happening right under their noses. The text also gives insight about various other subjects that I think would do you well to read about. You are an absolute hypocrite. But let us not focus too long on gangs, Iâm sure youâre a busy woman and all. In fact you probably have another appeal to get ready forâ¦what is thisâ¦your 20th appeal? Anyway, as you well know people have been having sexual intercourse since the existence of Adam and Eve. Letâs be blunt. They did too. Otherwise you and myself would not be here today having this disagreement. So to me it seems outright impossible for kids not to know of a little something called sex. I donât know what planet you were on when you attended high school (you did attend didnâ...
â¦t you?) but perhaps you knew that many kids had sex during their high school years (No! Really?). Maybe you were one of those feel-goods who turned a blind eye to what was happening in your high school. I really donât know. But what I can tell you is that you definitely went to high school (once again, permitting you did in fact go) before Harry Potter was even an idea. The same amount of kids had sex then, as they do now. So we now understand that Harry Potter has had no effect on us sex-crazed teenagers (thatâs what we are, right?). After that refutation there really is no need to explain to you that Harry Potter has had no effect on drinking and smoking weed in high school. Just as above, when you were in high school (if you went) there were the same amount of people who engaged in that pastime. Do you really think that Harry Potter has encouraged all of this behavior in the teenagers of America (not that they shouldnât be allowed to make their own choices about sex since we do live in America, right?). None of this behavior has any link with witchcraft. Furthermore, we have now come to the conclusion that Harry Potter also does not lead to any of this behavior (mostly it leads to higher reading scores and imaginative individualsâ¦pure evil!). And since when has someone in this world cast a spell. I have yet to discover an individual who can take a âwandâ (which doesnât even exist) and cast a spell. The power to utilize magic does not exist except for in God himself. So why are you so worried that children will become emaciated with witchcraft? If you are so sure about your beliefs then why do you care what others do. Just as the average kid wishes he could fly like superman (God forbid!), they do wish but they know that it isnât practical and will never in their lifetime happen (unless they ride a plane). Itâs mere fiction, mere fun and games. Iâve been friends with people who are very faithful to God that go directly from reading Harry Potter to reading the Bib...
I honestly have no more words for her. I actually pity her and her entire "group of supporters." You can't and never will destroy ignorance.
(Vomits) I'm sorry, I just was visiting Laura Mallory's website. It's truly apalling how narrow-minded that woman is. However, I must admit that there are very few who possess her talent for mass-stupification (of course stupification is a word). This is my favorite website Emerson, but I think Laura Mallory has your Wall of Shame beaten!
â¦le. And if you still claim that the subject matter of the series is magic, well I can hardly disagree. Yes it is about magic. But as we have seen Harry Potter clearly does not encourage anything you have accused of it. It enriches the lives of the reader. And lastly, why would you care if others became Wiccan practitioners? Would you speak out against someone who is Jewish? It is not your right to discriminate. As for myself, I think the Wiccan religion is quite bizarre and I would never practice it because I have my own beliefs, but it is not my place to deny them their right to practice their own religion. Instead of focusing on others, focus on your family and yourself and how faithful you are being. Anyway, I hope you see the light someday and alter your misguided views. I do not expect you to, however. Your miniscule brain may not allow you to do so. Sincerely, The Teenager Who Loves the Harry Potter Books P.S. Try reading the books.
If she wants a cult I give her a cult!! Scholastics is God Harry Potter is Jesus Jk.Rowling is mother mary (full of grace the lord is with theeeEE) The twelve aposels are the DA and judas is the brat who ratter out said DA The Dark Lord is satan and Divinations teacher is the blind prophet!! HAPPY NOW??! MAY SCHOLASTICS HAVE MERCY ON YOU SOUL!! im going to go worship the dark lord now.....
I also wrote her a response on her website... but I put the reason for contacting under Prayer Request/Need. :) Here's what I said: Hi, I really really need you to pray that I can stop reading the Harry Potter books. They are making my reading skills improve and have helped me become creative and imaginiative and evil things like that. Please, please, please, will you try and cure me of this ginormous problem? Thank you very much for your time, I know you are busy what with your 20th million appeal (you show those mother ****ers!). Sincerely, Robby :)
Amen to that RKRK1313 hahahaha. I would love to see a video of you and laura alone in a small room for 10 minutes. After reading that she'll probably be forced to take drugs. "There is a fine line between faith and absolute insanity" ah, 10 outta 10 for a job well done. Gave me a good laugh, that did.
no offence to her, but cant she getta life...her webpage ucxx to the power of infinty...al the shhh she has put up there.... iseriously pity the fact that she has such a lack in life!
Ok, here's the plan. Everyone, go to her website, click "contact us" and send our message right to her face. Don't give you email address or any other info. Sign the emails with something like: "an HP fan annoyed with you", or " a loyal fan of Harry Potter", or ,if you really want to tick her off, "a 'devil worshiping' little Harry Potter fan who curses your stupidity". You get the point, something to that effect. Let's send the truth of HP right to her doorstep from people who actually know what their talking about.
i seriously pity her kids. imagine living with that woman as your mother. not just the public humiliation on a global scale about something the kids probably know is a load of -expletive- but in general. Laura! Buy a knitting set or something!
She really should have thought this through before she kept on. She's trying so hard to get rid of HP, and all she's doing is creating what she thinks to be "negative publicity" for Harry... but you know what they say, negative publicity is STILL publicity. If anything, she's just helping sell some more books. So maybe..just maybe..we should give her a small thanks for spreading the word and encouraging people to take time to read about the wonderful world of Harry Potter, rather than shunning him as she hopes we all would. hehe
Surely she will realise that she's getting nowhere and give up on this 'anti harry potter' thing soon. It's just getting ridiculous. If she doesn't want to read it, fine, but I don't think that she should be trying to prevent others reading the series. Other kids should be given the choice whether to read them or not, not have them banned because one woman had a problem with them. Maybe if she loses this appeal too she might finally get the hint!!!
Basically, Laura Mallory just needs to sit down, read a Harry Potter book, and then go shove her head in the toilet for being stupid in the first place. Excuse the crudeness. I just cannot believe that there are people like her still in America today. Love, Amanda
I sent her another email. Second one today. Here it is. "I will not quit!" -Laura Mallory Really? Well, no sh**! Considering how many times you've been through this we had figured that. Yet, you are a prime example that "there is a fine line between faith and absolute insanity." You've not only crossed this line, you've flown over it at 568 mph and can no longer see it on long-range radar. Here's some advice: Quit! From, A 24 year old who thinks you're dumber than a bag of rocks P.S.- "It's never about answering the questions asked. It's about questioning the answers given." - Anonymous P.S.S.- Fu** you.
Nice comment Emerson.... Haha-now that's funny!
does this woman have kids? because there going to be so screwed up.. poor things.. i hope she doesnt have kids.. really.. a life without harry potter?! what would they have to live for!!!! ahha. im catholic.. but people like her really make me want to rethink what i beleive in.. lol tho. im like living proof that reading harry potter doesnt make people wiccan or w/e lol.. let the hate mail for her flow! XD
Here's a message I left on that website-I thought it was quite nice. "'It is our sincerest prayer that He will give you eyes to see and ears to hear, bringing you life more abundantly, both now and for eternity.' This is a line from one of the paragraphs on your home page. Let me point something out to you. It says 'He will give you eyes to see'. Now you say he will give you eyes to see, right? Well, then how come Mallory hasn't used those eyes to read the Harry Potter books? If she had then maybe she would shut her big mouth. I bet even god looks at her and laughs. Thanks, Jimmer
I sent my view to Mallory" Ms.Mallory, Come off of the hipocracy of your religiuos mativated views about Harry Potter books. My son is 3 and a half and loves to watch the movies. At least twice a week he asks to watch one. He understands in his own way that the movie is a movie. Through teaching at home he realizes there is no " Boogie man","Magical creatures""or other" Freedom of speech is your right and ours. Press on if you feel your doing what is correct, but my view is your barking up the wrong tree..try dispelling the Religion lottery to heaven problem that is rampant..not how can I look and point at things not me. Jason
Shawn_deviron, it's good to see someone else trying to be a little more ... intelligent about this instead of "it's stupid". Australians in war are known for respecting the opponent because they are fighting what they have to. Yes, Mallory is fighting what she feels she has to. I said I wouldn't defend her but you must all understand that the outline given for this article was written by a HP fan who is against Mallory. It's biased. It says she IMPLIES doesn't say she states, which makes me think she sees HP as just one part of all the things creating lawlessness in society. And if you believed HP was wrong you would see it as an additional factor too. I don't agree with her, I've written a paper and sent it in about why I can be a HP fan and a Christian (though they haven't posted itand I don't think they will because I wrote it a month ago) and have convinced both my mum and my brother that it's not as bad as Chrisitan leaders are making it out to be. You're never going to get someone to listen to you if you call them stupid and crazy. Call her misguided and misinformed. Prove to her that HP fans are kind, intelligent and good people, not ranting, rude and insulting.
laura mallory, i shart in your general direction.
I once read a book that was also full of violence, evil, and magic.... I think it was called the Bible
I just got finished sending a pleasant message to Mrs. Mallory and responding to a few of the more rediculous blogs on her site. I informed her that if she disapproved of Harry Potter for her own kids then fine...if the teacher wants to read it in class sometimes then Mallory needs to make it clear to said teacher that her children are not allowed to participate in anything Harry Potter related and that either the school needs to make arrangements for her child to be in another area doing something else, or mallory needs to keep them home that day and leave to rest of the children out of her beliefs. My uncle disapproves of Halloween so when my cousins where in school (they are in college now with pierceings, etc) when the class or the school had Halloween activities they either did not go to class or they left before the party began, and the school was very understanding. If I had children in that school district I would be in the court room telling the judge that Mallory could do whatever she pleases with her own children but for her to please not try to dictate what mine do as well. A Blogger on her site even actually called Harry Potter "questionable material" that belongs in public libraries....I responded that I would really be interested in knowing how exactly they define "questionable" questionable to me is under age sex, crimes against child, etc....not H.P. As for the whole Drug thing...I hate to burst her bubble....no wait.....no I don't :-) ......but there were drugs, addicts, violence and perverts long before Harry showed up. Columbine wasn't shot up by two students because of Harry Potter....it was because of bullying and lack of parental attention. In one of my blogs to her site I acctually asked her if she is planning to strike it rich off of this or if she is really that starving for attention. I am a chirstian, but I really hate it when you have to try to enjoy your life around nuto bible thumpers...
You know, if Laura Mallory is God's mouthpiece regarding Harry Potter and saving this generation of children, you'd think He'd pick someone slightly more effective. I mean, it's like Harry Potter 37, Laura 0.
Let's see what happens when her kids get into high school. I donât know about the schools in Georgia, but where I am from we had to read: Things Fall Apart (not wizard related but it protrays Christains from the POV of someone who doesn't want the Christains there. Look it up for better details.) The Crucible (but she might like that play since the âwitchesâ are the âbad guysâ) The Once and Future King And creation myths from a bunch of different religions. Here is what I think might be the big one, Macbeth! There was also a bunch of short stories and other thigns we had to read that weren't "right" in the way she's talking about things.
I just wrote another message to Mrs. Mallory after reading something he claimed was caused by Harry Potter and wanted to share it with my fellow Mugglenetter.: In the effort of giving you the benefit of the doubt I re-read some of your articles and felt it necessary to add to my earlier sent question. If teenagers around the world are drinking poisons it is not because of Harry Potter, it is because of non existent parents. The same can be said about the Columbine tradegy. If people would pay more attention to what their children are doing and be more active in their lives things like that wouldn't happen. But too many times you have parents who are so concerned with making sure they get to do what they want that they don't care if their teen is sniffing white out in the garage as long as it doesn't stop them from doing what they want....that is the true problem with the world not Harry Potter. If a parent (like myself) would take the time to teach their children that while pretend spells to make your hair turn pink might be fun to read and watch in a movie..it is not real...just like magic isn't real, and fairies and dragons, etc aren't real. We need to keep better track of our children....example the parents of the Columbine shooters said they had no idea their children were making bombs in their rooms...how can you not know what is happening inside your own home? Because they were too busy doing their own thing. Personally as both a parent and a Christian with a strong relationship with God, I would rather my daughter take a plastic drinking straw and say some silly made up words to pretend to make a "spell" to turn mommy purple, then to use that same drinking straw to pretend something horrible, distructive and full of death like war. Look around the real world Mrs. Mallory, evil and the devil are not in a make believe place with Harry Potter, they are here with us in reality....hidden inside...
Hi! I've been coming to the site for a very long time, but have not taken the time to become a registered user until now. I think that perhaps we should all submit ranting diatribes to her website. I told her that her kids will probably need therapy for the rest of their lives and that she should read the books "Looking for God in Harry Potter" by John Granger and "God, the Devil, and Harry Potter: A Christian Minister's Defense of the Beloved Novels" by Rev. John Killinger, as well as the HP series. If I hadn't been so angry, I would have pointed out some of the parts of the bible that children shouldn't read (e.g. Book of Revelations).
I used to heckle Mallory with the rest of you, and while I don't agree with Mallory that the books are inherently evil, I think that since they are so controversial, perhaps it is reasonable to ask that they not be taught in Public School classrooms. Just as some find prayer to be offensive, and just as it has been banned in the classroom (though I don't like that it has), she has found stories involving witchcraft to be offensive and wants them banned from the classroom. If you look to see what she is actually asking for, she's not trying to keep other kids from reading the books, or get them removed from the public ibraries - only from the small libraries within the public schools. The reason for that is because any book in the school library can be taught in the classroom. And like I said that is what she is ultimately trying to stop: the books being explicitly taught or read aloud in the classroom. As she points out there is some hypocracy going on in that schools have banned prayer and the Bible in the classroom because many find it offensive, but not Harry Potter, though many find it equally offensive, and also for religious reasons. Mallory's is a much more reasonable request than that which we have been (at least) implicitly accusing her of.
Hi, bookchick81! The book of Revelation? What about the Song of Solomon?!? Still, like I said, I need to change my previously held position and go against the tide a bit, here. I think we're giving Mallory more trouble than she really deserves. I'm still an HP fan, (and I have prayed about this but came to a different conclusion about the books than Mallory), but I don't think she's nearly as off-her-rocker than I previously thought. :-) Susie
RKRK1313, you rock! XD
Shawn_Deviron -- "Luna said vaguely that she did not know how soon Rita's interview with Harry would appear in the Quibbler, that her father was expecting a long article on recent sightings of crumple-Horned Snorkacks." Is that the sentence you mean? Or maybe we have different editions? Lol I guess I'm missing something...
Sorry for the grammatical errors (eg. missing commas) in my last two posts! I'm really not that incapable of writing - it's just that it's way past my bedtime! ;-) Susie
She should just keep her opinions to her and her family. I know a girl who is Christian (Pentecostal) and she isn't allowed to have anything to do with Harry Potter. As a Catholic, I could understand her parents stance however I couldn't help but ask if it bothered her. She said it didn't. Since she hadn't read the books she wasn't caught up in the hype of it all. Their family still lives a happy life - devoting themselves to God. Why can't this woman just do that. To keep her opinions to herself. And if she believes Harry Potter has a detrimental effect on all who take part - she should just shield her children from it and not interfere with anyone else's life! Besides, (I said this before but anyway) let's overlook the fact we are talking about possibly the greatest piece of children's literature, and concentrate on the fact that it is impossible to ban something in PUBLIC schools on RELIGIOUS grounds. Phew.
I am so angry right now, I had never actually read anything this woman had actually said before, it was always second hand information but now that I have read it I just think this woman is nuts! Btw Albert Einstien said " the definition of insanity is, doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results". I am a mother of two beautiful little girls ages 3 and 1 and they have seen the movies, they are a bit young for the books becuase of the length still. I am an avid harry potter fan, I am also offended at the Wiccan remarks as i have friends who happen to be Wiccan and it's not about potions and spells and waving a magic wand to get what you want right now. Wicca is about love and growth, eath and spirit. How can someone be this stupid. I wish there was an email or a postal box so I could mail this idiot a letter. and just like others have said there was violence long before HP, heck look at the bible if she wants to be so Superior look to her bible, what about all the violence in it, Cain & Able, King Soloman, the persecution of Christ, or heck take god him self with moses and the boat. jonah and the whale, and it goes on. Dugs and sex and violence were here much longer than these books if anything they are keeping kids off the streets in the saftey of homes and library's. and the olumbinekids were planing there great escapade starting in 1996 the First HP didn't print till 1997. and they were going off of hitler who's birthday happens to be April 20th, which also happens to be my birthday and now i have to look back every year and know that those innocent children died on my birthday every year becuase some kids who needed some psychological help didn't get it, every year i share a birthday with hitler, Mallory is just another hitler, intead of eye and hair color, and religion, its her religion and what she thinks is right and wrong
Actually, my last comment on my last post could quite possibly be very misleading. Please ignore it. lol
ok shee made the mistake at "we need God in America again." i belive in God so i have nothing againts that but in this country we have something called freedom of religon. she has no right saying we need more god because some people dont belive like others do and thats ok every one has that right no matter what age.but besides that how can she say that HP is teaching witch craft?!?! it doesnt sit there and explain how to cast speels really is picking up a stick and doing the swish and flick move gana levitate something?? i dont think so. there our tons of books with magic in them. if you dont want your kids intro. to magic you have to take tons of books out of libraries such as things with merlin in them. why waste your time with trying to get rid of HP whene there are worst books around?? in my school now (juinior high 7-8 grade) theres a book that i accidently found it was acctualy called the "geto" and it was talking about people doing drugs and drive by shootings with gangs and in elementry (kindergarden-4th grade) there was a book where they kept cussing non-stop!!! wouldnt you like to get these books out of libraries??? COME ON PEOPLE ITS JUST FANTASY THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH IT!!!! so basicly im gana guss this person is a devoted (no offense im a christan too) christian (doesnt have to be christan most likely is though) is too scared to go to the movies cuz she thinks her soul will be stolen, hates magic of any kind and this person most likely hates anime as well (wich i love theres nothing wrong anime if you think there is e-mail me at fmalover01@yahoo.com and i talk to you about how its not) and says were all going to heck for worshoping the devil. i say she has no right judge me or any one else on where im gana end up and the only person that can judge me is god. she needs to shut up mind her own bussines band her children from reading HP and leave the rest of us alone. she will never win at banding the books so give up Mallory ok my rant is over. =)
"Furthermore, she implies that Potter is the reason for "violence, drugs, gangs, addictions, perversions" in schools nowadays...." Well, that explains all those drive-by hexings in L.A., Detroit and inner-city New York....
