JKR: Deathly Hallows 'is my favorite'
Jo has updated several sections of her official site. The biggest update is in her diary, where she shared her thoughts on finishing the seventh novel:
I always knew that Harry's story would end with the seventh book, but saying goodbye has been just as hard as I always knew it would be. Even while I'm mourning, though, I feel an incredible sense of achievement. I can hardly believe that I've finally written the ending I've been planning for so many years. I've never felt such a mixture of extreme emotions in my life, never dreamed I could feel simultaneously heartbroken and euphoric.
She goes on to say that Deathly Hallows is her favorite book of the series. In the rumors section, she cleared up why the announcement made last week didn't sound so happy:
This could not be further from the truth! The 21st July publication date has given me enough time to write the book I wanted to write, and for the manuscript to be properly edited. These are the most important things to me. An earlier date - eg, 7/7/07 - would have meant that either the writing or editing was rushed, and neither my publishers nor I wanted that. Any brevity in my announcement was down to the fact that I was busy editing!
Lastly, Jo made two updates to her FAQ section, one addressing what the two other titles she considered for Book 7 were, and another refusing to tell us what "Deathly Hallows" means, as it would give too much away about the story.

Yes! Finally! I knew she would update with a personal message.

Posted by Vicktoria Feb 6th 2007

It's her favorite?!Wow!!!I am both excited and sad!!!

Posted by kishan Feb 6th 2007

yeah.i am sad too.but i cant wait for the book to get released!!!!!

Posted by Quiscalus Feb 6th 2007

YAY!!! Finally she updates!! I'm not complaining, it's just great to hear from her. I LOVE YOU JO!

Posted by muggleatuniv Feb 6th 2007

In this case, I don't mind her previous short update- if she's editing, and working hard, I think ' so what if she is unyielding in her creative/personal updates so long as DH is much better for it".

Posted by NickiGrint Feb 6th 2007

Yay she update! 6th?

Posted by Anophelene Feb 6th 2007

Awesome update. Doesn't her comment lead you to believe that this book is going to be just spectacular? (seventh? )

Posted by Quiscalus Feb 6th 2007

Ooh, MuggleCast might go on for a few more episodes after DH release!!! She said that there will still be stuff to speculate... does that mean not all the loose ends will be tied up?

Posted by col Feb 6th 2007

Thank you Jo for a lifetime of joy for HP. Thanks for your time you did give us. Now I think we should respect your privacy and give you some quite time to grieve in your own way.

Posted by yoohhoo Feb 6th 2007

"I think that there will be plenty to continue arguing and speculating about, even after 'Deathly Hallows' comes out.".... What does that mean, Do we not get all the answers at the end. Well I must say it does feel good to hear her thoughts on all this. And I feel for her. It would be hard to let everything go after 17 years. No more Harry after this. Its so sad. But i can't wait to read DH though.

Posted by nixnux Feb 6th 2007

thanks jo for HP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Frini Feb 6th 2007

*tear* I wish I could just hug her! *lol* If we, as readers, are feeling this incredible mixture of happiness and sadness, can you imagine Jo? I'm so ... without words right now. GO, JO! Write something else and get us all in love with new books ... all over again :)

Posted by JeNaN Feb 6th 2007

aww.. im so sad now.. i dont want it to end :( but im happy all at the sametime. im so happy i got into readin these wonderful books, they helped me out a lot durin my first highschool years.. and now they are coming to an end jus like everything has to. Thank you JK Rowling, my dream is to meet you and tell you over an dover again how much i love your books. ooo i cant wait for this book!!

Posted by alliewobbles Feb 6th 2007

Thank you so much Jo!!!!!! You've given my life so much more happiness. *cries* You've changed our lives.. WE LOVE YOU, AND THANK YOU!!

Posted by Summergurl Feb 6th 2007

More stuff to speculate at? Wasn't she going to "toe up all the loose ends"?...Well, you know JO....if you're that upset you could alwasy write a book 8 for us all ;) *sigh* I am sad. I thought Id be happy about the release but after July no more theories or discussion. It'll be all over :(

Posted by pimpdaddywupwup Feb 6th 2007

The sad but happy feeling that Jo is feeling must be tough. Kinda reminds me of Cho Chang in having feelings for harry but still sad about Cedric Diggory. The book is going to be fantastic and even though it is the end, I for one will never let the series die. LONG LIVE HARRY POTTER!!!!

Posted by maraudersmagic Feb 6th 2007

I knew that this was the last book, but it just now finally sunk in when i read this.... I even cried a little bit when i read this on her website.

Posted by lilac_kazz Feb 6th 2007

yayayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy y~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! thx JO... can't wait 'till JULY!!!!!

Posted by luna_lupin7 Feb 6th 2007

Oh my gosh it's her favorite?!!? I cannot WAIT!

Posted by lemondrop89 Feb 6th 2007

I was soo excited but now i'm really sad. no more mugglecast. i didn't even think about it ending! but i suppose they won't have much to chat about. i can't believe this is almost over.

Posted by MuggleChick04 Feb 6th 2007

yay!!!!!! Jo is awesome!!!

Posted by argentinianwitch093 Feb 6th 2007

I'm actually crying like the day my dog died... *sighs* I wonder how it'll be after the final book comes out. I'm just glad to hear this is her favorite book. I mean, a book BETTER then the other six? Wow!

Posted by stravopodaros Feb 6th 2007

Oh God...*cries*... I just wish I could hug her! she sounds so sad, and how couldn't she be sad? if WE are sad, imagine how devestated she must be feeling...really, she deserves a HUGE applause at whichever midnight release we see her! seriously you suys, we must applaude and applaude and never stop, cause this woman gave us so so so much! *cries more*... GO JO! WE LOVE YOU!!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Posted by kittie19513 Feb 6th 2007

thanks tou for the update Jo! just sad and happy....

Posted by mastermike Feb 6th 2007

Cheers Jo. Sitting here in my little room in Middlesbrough, I'm also feeling a small part of your ambivalent emotions. The personal touch you've now given to the announcement and publication of your final Harry Potter book means more to your fans than you will ever know. Thankyou, and we'll be with you through it all.

Posted by stacie_123 Feb 6th 2007

This is so sad and happy at the same time! Its so good to here from Jo tho and it makes me soooooooo exicted for deathly hollows!

Posted by muggleatuniv Feb 6th 2007

I'm tired of people saying mugglecast and pottercast are going to end simply because book 7 is being published in July! How many times have the podcasters been saying THEY'RE NOT STOPPING? They've still got two movies to go through, and besides, as JKR said, there's plenty to speculate on. So stop whining please.

Posted by bk4ftw Feb 6th 2007

Thanks Jo for bringing so much happiness to me and so many others!

Posted by labrattus Feb 6th 2007

Does this comment sound very ominous to you? "I always knew that Harry's story would end with the seventh book". Not THE story, not stories of the wizarding world, but HARRY'S story? Is she telling us that Harry dies? She says she's heartbroken and in mourning? Ah, Jo, tell me it isn't so!

Posted by flipgirl Feb 6th 2007

Yes! I luv when JK tells us personally. I've barely been on mugglenet. I'm so busy with school and Runescape. But I'm still the biggest fan. And I'm countin down the days till deathly hallows... :-)

Posted by auror1470 Feb 6th 2007

Micah was right...he said she would post something more heartfelt on her sight...Thank you for the update Jo. Thank for you for Harry! Harry will live on forever in our hearts...I will never get tired of re-reading the books and watching the movies over again. I know the fandom won't stop but it is a little bitter sweet...

Posted by toRf Feb 6th 2007

well, would be a bit strange if she had said that the book wont be that nice as the previous ones, wouldnt it. and i dont know what to think about her statement not to tie up all loose ends. i think i would be a liitle bit disappointed and upset if in the end we have to discuss whether snape is either on the good or the bad side :D.

Posted by Save_Ginny Feb 6th 2007

you're the greatest Jo

Posted by Gonzo2006 Feb 6th 2007

JK's always said that she would only write 7 HP books. I don't think this is anymore ominous than anything else we've seen so far. She's in mourning b/c this has been a huge part of her life for 15-16 yrs and now it's over. Harry is her "brain-child" and now the story is over. How else would she feel? By the way, COLTS ARE AMAZING!!

Posted by lovely_emma Feb 6th 2007

Aww I'm sad and happy!!! sad that it's gunna be over...but happy that the book is coming!!!! YAY!

Posted by flipgirl Feb 6th 2007

I'm glad that she won't tell us what the Deathly Hallows means, at first I felt mad at her but I relaized that I wanted a surprise. But it probably means Harry's gonna die. Aren't I optimistic? ;-)

Posted by priorincantato Feb 6th 2007

that's cool it's her favorite cause now it's sure to be an extremely good one. i can't wait! i'm gonna be so sad though once i realize that there's really no more :[

Posted by flipgirl Feb 6th 2007

It's her favorite. But if he dies then its not mine. I personally like GoF

Posted by FlooGirl Feb 6th 2007

I am so happy that she made a personal update. I was getting worried. I'm so happy yet sad :( :)

Posted by Belgarath2 Feb 6th 2007

Cool...but no mention about the hotel message ie. did she really write it!

Posted by potterwolff Feb 6th 2007

I know I'll be sad when the last book comes out, but we can always go back and read the books over and over again; no matter what the outcome of DH is, it doesnt change the fact that these are some of the most fantastic works of literature ever created. So I'm definitely happy that the release date is so close and that Jo favors this book over all the rest. Congratulations Jo and thank you so much for all that you've done for us.

Posted by iceboots Feb 6th 2007

Micah does it again!

Posted by la_ly Feb 6th 2007

Woa, cool. Her favorite book? That sounds like DH will truly be amazing, considering how great all the other books are. On the other hand, there will be so many death, so I believe it will also be the saddest one. It's the last, I am really dreading the end, but she says its the best one, so there is so much to look forward too. Thanks for the more personal message we all hoped for, Jo!

Its a sad and a happy time for all the Harry Potter fans...I dont know whether to cry or to be happy...: (

Posted by HarryPotterFreakers Feb 6th 2007

If it is her favorite it is most likely going to be my favorite. She said on her site that there would still be alot to discuss even after the book comes out. Does that mean that not everything is resolved?! I am happy and sad just like everyone else. Please JK, have it be a good ending to a wonderful series!!!!!!!!

Posted by James_Padfoot Feb 6th 2007

OMG Finally! Thank you Jo! It means so much to me/us that you've updated. It feels so good to hear from her. And the feeling of sadness and euphroia.... Gawd, thats how I felt when I heard the release date. Though more muted ;) Her diary did give some food for thought though.... It seems that not everything will be answered.... Oh dear oh me oh my. Well, in any case, no need to worry, I'm positive Jo got all the salient bits in. HURRAH FOR JO!

Posted by charris11453 Feb 6th 2007

I'm soooo excited!!! It's interesting how she said she always knew this would be the end of Harry's story... I believe more with each passing day that he's going to...die... :(

Posted by flipgirl Feb 6th 2007

I'm sad it's ending. I'm writing a fan fic anyway. It's weird. But anyway, I hope it's good! U rock JK!

Posted by James_Padfoot Feb 6th 2007

I feel awful for Jo. ;_; I feel awful for us too. But I'm also excited. o_O
