JKR: Deathly Hallows 'is my favorite'
Jo has updated several sections of her official site. The biggest update is in her diary, where she shared her thoughts on finishing the seventh novel:
I always knew that Harry's story would end with the seventh book, but saying goodbye has been just as hard as I always knew it would be. Even while I'm mourning, though, I feel an incredible sense of achievement. I can hardly believe that I've finally written the ending I've been planning for so many years. I've never felt such a mixture of extreme emotions in my life, never dreamed I could feel simultaneously heartbroken and euphoric.
She goes on to say that Deathly Hallows is her favorite book of the series. In the rumors section, she cleared up why the announcement made last week didn't sound so happy:
This could not be further from the truth! The 21st July publication date has given me enough time to write the book I wanted to write, and for the manuscript to be properly edited. These are the most important things to me. An earlier date - eg, 7/7/07 - would have meant that either the writing or editing was rushed, and neither my publishers nor I wanted that. Any brevity in my announcement was down to the fact that I was busy editing!
Lastly, Jo made two updates to her FAQ section, one addressing what the two other titles she considered for Book 7 were, and another refusing to tell us what "Deathly Hallows" means, as it would give too much away about the story.

hmmm.....she said that there was still some stuff to debate on after the publication of "deathly hallows"....THATS AWSOME!!! and btw, i forgive JKR for giving us such a brief statement on when the 7th book would come out... you're way to cool for me to be mad at you...

Posted by bettymonster Feb 6th 2007

Wow. I'm excited about the release of DH, but I really really don't want Harry Potter to end. I'm sure that's how we all feel though. That's comforting. :]

Posted by flipgirl Feb 6th 2007

oh what emotions. kida like what i feel like. I'm sad and happy and I'm sorta crying right now. Whenever I'm doing something HP or finished reading HP or listening or watching HP or listening to a song that reminds me of HP i cry. When someone dies or doesn something good or anything. And when I meet JKR I'm gonna bawl all over her.

Posted by bosshey Feb 6th 2007

There's not a word in any language in the world that can explain how I and millions of fans feel right now. This bowl of mixed emotions is good, bad, sad and the list goes on. Blaise Pascal said : ''Imagination disposes of everything; it creates beauty, justice, and happiness, which are everything in this world.'' I totally agree with him. Thank you, merci beaucoup, Jo for everything. Harry wasn't just a story for a lot of us; he was a friend, a person that we could relate to. Hogwarts is a real place and I will always believe the existence of a magical world, thanks to you! You are an insperation to all of us. You told us that if we have dreams to be patient and it will happen if we keep believing in it. Thank you again! And I hope you will keep in touch after the release! Lot's of fan love!

Posted by vintage_emmsi Feb 6th 2007

Wooot!! yay i'm glad that the last book is soon upon us!!! i know it is sad that the series is ending but people will still be discussing it for years to hope hopefully, so in a way its not sad!!

Posted by ChoChang Feb 6th 2007

Harry Potter has been a huge, huge chunk of my life and it's the same for the most of us... It's like being taken away a limb... :\

Posted by rmz890 Feb 6th 2007

I'm school reading this, and I almost burst out crying. Oh man. I also feel a mixture of happiness and sadness- when my dad told me the release date in the car, I jumped up in my seat and screamed...and then I realized that it's the end of the series! It's bitter sweet.

Posted by James_Padfoot Feb 6th 2007

Bosshey, you pretty much summed up the words that I couldn't. I am the least most emotional person one could find, but when it comes to Harry and his world... I feel like I could cry and cryandcryandcry because we will never ever again be maddeningly awaiting the release of another book. Not another story of Harry, Ron, Hermione, nor Lily and James, nothing like this. Because even if Jo does release that encyclopedia she's talked about, it won't be the same. It will never be the same. And then fills me up with profound sadness. But I love this woman for everything she has given to us, and I am excited to get this book. ~~~~~ On another note, I'm glad she didn't feel like she had to try and get it on 07/07/07 or anything of the sort. I'm glad she did it in her own time. I want this book to be perfect, and I know it will be.

Posted by AliceFO Feb 6th 2007

I love her. Shes just, wow. If she say it is such a great way to end, does that mean its a happy ending?

Posted by Kareen Feb 6th 2007

Aww man! AS if we're not in enough suspense as it is!!!! If it's Jo's favorite then what are we gonna think?!!! But I understand what she means about finishing a book but not wanting to. It is sad to let something you love that much finally go.

Posted by Quidditchgirl24 Feb 6th 2007

I don't think that she will be giving anything away with this book. In the last book she was giving away chapter titles and bit and pieces of chapters. This time she won't even tell us what "Hallows" means. Notice that she said, the "Harry Potter" story is done, not the Harry Potter world. hmmmm....just as i thought:)

Posted by AlbusDumbledore Feb 6th 2007

well that's really good news....I'm really excited now more than before now I know its her favourite. still we'll miss harry very much :(

Posted by muggleatuniv Feb 6th 2007

That would be really awesome to get some more stories from the world of magic, but I'm not sure she's going to do so. I wish...

Dearest Jo, Please don't be sad. Harry will never truely be gone from your memory. In fact you have done something special, you have written down his story. That is more than most have when they lose a loved one, real or imaginary. Most have just a couple pictures and their memories. You have written his whole story, to read and remember in the future. Harry will only be truely gone if there are none who are loyal to him. That is not going to happen. You have created a wonderful story that is going to last through the ages. My dearest hope is that my great grandchildren will love your Harry just as much as me, my husband and the millions of other fellow readers out there. Whether or not you killed him off in the end of the story is arbitrary. We will keep reading the books over and over and no matter how popular or unpopular the books get in the future, you will always remember Harry, and so will we. As for the questions, speculations, discussions which you so love from your readers; they will continue as long as you have a website. We Love You Jo!!! We will be loyal to you to the end. We will read anything you write. We will defend you from the closed minded and we will never forget you or "the boy who lived". If we the reader can't forget, then you the author certainly won't. Be cheerful, for grieveing or not, you are loved. God Bless You!!! Maria S. Early (known on mugglenet as Lyllia_Itory) Age 26 Indiana

Oh mY gosh!! It's gonna be a spiffin' good one!! I can't wait to read it! Gah!

Posted by Witchy_Woman Feb 6th 2007

Just the update I needed. Espesially since I'm sick and stuck at home. I'm really happy for Jo. She deserves to be finished. She's worked hard. Too bad she won't tell us what DH means though. Adios!

Posted by HPluver13 Feb 6th 2007

If DH is Jo's favorite book, that means it's gonna be good! Yay! But, on the other hand.... *sniffle* I don't want this series to end! Oh man I think I'm gonna cry.....*sob* I DON'T WANT IT TO END!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! ok I'm done being emotional now.

Posted by Susan14 Feb 6th 2007

X____X IT'S THE EEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNDDDDDDD DDDDD!!!!!!! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! >_> And the sad part is...the only comfort I can find is telling myself that (I know no one's going to agree with me!) Harry's not gonna die, or at least that's what I think.

Posted by horcrux17 Feb 6th 2007

And I am proud to hear it. Thanks, JK!!!

Posted by hpjustadad Feb 6th 2007

Great News about the various notices on the JKRowling board. Does anybody know when the third round of W.O.M.B.A.T.'s will begin?

Posted by Janeykins Feb 6th 2007

*squeallll*

Posted by gryffindor_phoenix Feb 6th 2007

Lots more to discuss after DH comes out? Good, then the internet fandom will still be around for a long, long time. :) DH is her favorite?? Excellent, that means its a great book and now I can't wait to read it!! I was so afraid that I was going to be disappointed with it, but that puts my nerves at ease. Thank you Jo and we all love you very much (and we forgive the short post earlier since you're so busy editing DH so it's better).

Posted by Quiscalus Feb 6th 2007

THANK YOU JO!!! WE LOVE YOU! Thank you for everything. Thank you for the most amazing books... thank you for writing an escape from the world... thank you, thank you, thank you!

Posted by AGUADALUPITA Feb 6th 2007

It's so sad...I always new the end was gonna come and i have always been ok with it, but reading this made me feel really sad for Jo. I can't imagine having to go thru all this. These might just be books and great fantasies for some people but I never really thought that these books were Jo's babies. She gave each character life and knows everything about them. Now she has to let them go and grow up all on their own. At least she still has herself to think of different paths to lead them to. I, however, can't compare to her and will be sad wondering what she made of them all........=(

Posted by Naush Feb 6th 2007

Thank you JK Rowling for such a beautiful and wonderful gift...

Posted by sugarzero Feb 6th 2007

i would just like to say how dumb it is to comment just because you think you will be in the top 10 comments. Comments are for, believe it or not, actually commenting. i'm really glad jo finally updated her website. does anyone know when barnes n nobles will be saying anything about the midnight parties?

Posted by bwof Feb 6th 2007

Now that´s very interesting!! Its´s her FAVORITE!! Wow :) that is brilliant news indeed. Aaand, she says there will be more to speculate about..*troubled face*, does that mean that she will leave a huge question open in the air??? Like, something concerning a potionsmaster beginning on s? Anyway, so happy that she wrote something in her diary!! Thanks!!

Posted by eelgee10 Feb 6th 2007

oh man...im sad toooo. and its her favorite! wow that statement alone says alot...july cant come fast enough. i wonder what else we will have left to discuss tho, once it comes out, sicne she said we would have plenty to talk about? BUT WHATEV, its still awesome. thanks jo

Posted by hplvr92 Feb 6th 2007

Thanks Jo! I dont think any of us can compare to her emotions right now. Im glad she updated it more personally, now everyone can stop saying she was rushed. July 21st cannot come quick enough!!

Posted by dark_nymph Feb 6th 2007

Wow, DH is JKR's favorite? That makes it that much more exciting! July 21st will be a very emotional day for all of us. I know it would be pointless to say I hope it ends well, because I know it will. We're all cheering for you, JKR!

Posted by TheWordsUnspoken Feb 6th 2007

when i saw the release date i was annoyed and sad and disappointed all at the same time. i mean, im happy that we finally get to finishthe series. but i don't want it to end... especially not this summer. i was excited for the movie and that was enough. i just needed one harry potter exciting thing this this summer, lol! i wasn't expecting it to come out this summer either. but when i saw it i was like dang... i dont want the book NOW... i want it next year, lol. i want this to last as long as it can. :) but im still going to trt and get my hands on a copy as soon as it comes out, lol. ;)

Posted by wishmyhairwasred Feb 6th 2007

if it's her favorite, that means she COULDN'T have killed off Harry...right?? AHHHHH! i'm so excited, but i REALLY just want to scream super loudly right now. Such a long time until the book comes out!

Is this not further proof that Jo listens to MuggleCast and does everything Micah says? B) And the fact that DH is Jo's favourite makes me look forward to it even more.

Posted by SriLankanSnape Feb 6th 2007

Kishan, What nationality are you? If you don't mind me asking. That is a familiar name...

Posted by Valkyriefire Feb 6th 2007

The Deathly Hollows... Well, the only "Hollow" I remember off the top of my head is Godrics Hollow, where Harry's parents were killed. That makes one "deathly" hollow. Is there another one mentioned in the books or perhaps will there be a new one to complete the circle?

Posted by gryffindor_phoenix Feb 6th 2007

Valkyriefire, the title is Deathly Hallows, with an a, not Deathly Hollows. 'Hallow' means to make holy, but a 'hollow' is a space. It's an easy mistake to make, but it makes a huge difference. My favorite theories I've heard were it having something to do with Halloween (All Hallow's Eve) and the Four Hallows of Arthurian legend (a cup, a wand/baton, a sword/dagger, and a penticle) being the remaining horcruxes that Harry has to destroy. I'm getting so excited now. It's finnally setting in that we're going to know the answers to everything in 5 months!!

Posted by HPDH2007 Feb 6th 2007

Thats great news! Its a shame she didn't mention the length of the book. She said POA was her favorite movie and thats my (and many others) least favorite film. However, I have a good feeling about book 7 and I also think it will be the best HP book of the series and end it in top form.

Posted by cheeringcharm Feb 6th 2007

I'm glad she doesn't clear up every little detail. In life, there are always questions we never find the answers to and have to speculate. Here's a question: how does Harry fling mud at Malfoy THROUGH HIS CLOAK??

Yes!! An update!!! I feel sorry for Jo :`( but i also want that book!!!! It must be the best ever if it's Jo's favorite. Still no word on the writing in the hotel though.

Posted by HpAlwaysN4ever Feb 6th 2007

Finally we hear from her! Deathly Hallows must be really good if it's her favorite!!

Just had to visit JKR's site after visiting Mugglenet and finding out she had updated her own. Read her Diary to myself and then aloud to my mother ( huge potter fan) and she shed a tear...It is going to be a tough summer after Harry Potter is over.

Posted by Alsnana Feb 6th 2007

May be soon she will give us some chapter titles. Just wishing for time to hurry..

Posted by DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY Feb 6th 2007

JK ZRowling if you ever read this: I had some ideas for the last book's title (Though DH is GREAT way to end HP!) Harry Potter and the Time Gun Harry Potter and the Holy Grail Harry Potter and the Death of Voldemort Harry Potter and the Serpent of Raining Fire Harry Potter Experiences Puberty (MY FAVORITE!) Harry Potter meets JK Rowling at King's Crpss to Discuss Politics

Posted by ReallyTired Feb 6th 2007

I am sad that it's ending. I think it will be alright though, since the conclusion promises to be quite spectacular.

Posted by DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY Feb 6th 2007

Is Colin Creevey a muggle? PLEASE SAY ITS SO, JK ROWLING! And I love you so much JK. You have brought me the joy of reading and savoring every minute of it. DH is going to be amazing, I just know it! JK.....I love you. Please write more fantasy.....I don't care if it's not about Harry, just write more.....maybe about dragons, or Kneazles....or Puffskeins, or Jarveys.......for me..... I love you JK.....I love you......Never stop writing.....
