JKR: Deathly Hallows 'is my favorite'
Jo has updated several sections of her official site. The biggest update is in her diary, where she shared her thoughts on finishing the seventh novel:
I always knew that Harry's story would end with the seventh book, but saying goodbye has been just as hard as I always knew it would be. Even while I'm mourning, though, I feel an incredible sense of achievement. I can hardly believe that I've finally written the ending I've been planning for so many years. I've never felt such a mixture of extreme emotions in my life, never dreamed I could feel simultaneously heartbroken and euphoric.
She goes on to say that Deathly Hallows is her favorite book of the series. In the rumors section, she cleared up why the announcement made last week didn't sound so happy:
This could not be further from the truth! The 21st July publication date has given me enough time to write the book I wanted to write, and for the manuscript to be properly edited. These are the most important things to me. An earlier date - eg, 7/7/07 - would have meant that either the writing or editing was rushed, and neither my publishers nor I wanted that. Any brevity in my announcement was down to the fact that I was busy editing!
Lastly, Jo made two updates to her FAQ section, one addressing what the two other titles she considered for Book 7 were, and another refusing to tell us what "Deathly Hallows" means, as it would give too much away about the story.

YAY!!! At first I was sad that JK was prolonging the release date, but i would much rather have the book a couple weeks later and have it written to the best of her abilities than have it be out sooner and have the writing/editing rushed. Although I am sad that the end is near *tear*, I am glad that the finale is coming upon us!!!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!! IF THIS IS HER FAVORITE... IT'S DEFINATLY MINE!!!! but sad all the same the series has come to an END....BOOHOO! I think I'm gonna cry! Let's just hope harry dosn't die!

Posted by Harryfan20 Feb 7th 2007

I love that there is just book news. The movies are o.k, but it's the books that started it all and are the best. WAY better than the movies. Whenever I think of July, all I think about is the book. Who cares about the movie when the final Harry Potter book is being released!

Posted by HermyG Feb 7th 2007

I wonder if she likes to make us suffer. talking about how good the book is and knowing we can't read it until this summer! lol

Posted by dobbyroxmysox Feb 7th 2007

awwww im so sad!i cant beleive that its going to be over!no more harry after this..now im waiting for 2 books to come out deathly hallows and the last book in the Inheritance Trilogy.

cul!

Posted by Rayen Feb 7th 2007

Her wording... "I always knew that Harry's story would end with the seventh book" kind of scares me. Sounds so.. final It suggests Harry's story- his compleate story ends... I hope not!

Posted by SeekerMolly310 Feb 7th 2007

I think there is a connection between the Title "Deathly Hallows" and the phrase frequently and creatively used, "Hallows of thier Eyes". It has been said numerous times that Lily and her Eyes come into play in DH. Maybe this links to the night when Lily was killed, becuase Voldemort hadn't planned on killing her, until they were face to face, or maye eye to eye. If you think I'm way wrong tell me. Peace, Love, and Harry Potter for all the world.

endings are always sad. this story may be the saddest one's because, mainly because these books have been a staple in so many of our lives and we can relate to the charectors, which the sign of a great book, but that just makes it all the more sad and all the more heartbreaking. it's not that we all think that these charectors are real but they have a symbolic place in our hearts.

the end...has come...i don't know if i can survive...

Posted by Grey Feb 7th 2007

I felt like crying when I read her journal. I got all teary eyed--I felt like such a dork because I was at school and school isn't the best place to get teary eyed over anything. So there I was quietly sniffling miserably and trying to suck it up. If I'm like this now I'll probably be an emotional train reck by July. I don't like to think!

That was the most touching message ever! Jo, no one could ever thank u enough for HP, a life-changing experience for all of us. i think i might get depressed after july 21st...i'm already half in mourning.... its like knowing someone u love will leave u forever at an exact date and time....their memories, of course, will be there forever, but its just not going to be the same anymore....good thing they r opening that helpline somewhere...ppl r gonna need it!

JKR says somewhere in her web page that there'll still be plenty to theorise and discuss about after Deathly Hallows. I'm appalled. I sincerely doubted she'd be able to wrap up every single loose end from the previous six books in just one, but now it turns out she hasn't even tried! Well, if someone ends up writing 'Harry Potter: The Lost Years' in the future, she'll very well deserve it. Rant Mode Off.

how many characters die in this book? cos she always said two main character were going to die. But then recently im sure i remember reading somewhere that some died who she hadnt intended on killing off? Maybe im just being stupid.

Marguerite0034, what an ungrateful little thing (to put it politely) you are. Jo has given us so much pleasure and you grudge her the indulgence of a few loose ends? Thank you Jo for sharing this wonderful story with us. Thank you for writing it so well that you got kids who had never read anything for pleasure before, read massively long books. Thank you for creating such a trans-continent, trans-gender, trans-age, trans-everything community on the internet. Thank you for inspiring so many children/young adults to start writing. Thank you for being such a great role model to so many people from different walks of life. Thank you for using your money and your time and influence to help people and children locally and abroad who are in need of a voice. Thank you for giving us, your fans, such a wonderful and entertaining website. Thank you for listening to us, for answering our questions and for giving us your time. My thanks could just go on and on. Thank you....thank you....THANK YOU....

Posted by Emell Feb 8th 2007

If this is her feeling, then I can hardly wait for this book, I've already waited two years, the next six months are gonna be brutal...

Posted by GinnyPotter Feb 8th 2007

Im going to take this as a good sign... I dont think Harrys death would make this her favorite book =]

Posted by jenniepotter Feb 8th 2007

When I go on jkrowling.com it isn't updated. I still have January's wizard of the month and I have the previous diary entry, not the one about DH and the release date. I've tried refreshing the page, but nothing happens. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

i'm not dreading the "long" wait of these next 5-6 months til 7/21...i want them to go suuuper slowly! i'm enjoying trying to keep up with what others think on Mugglecast, Pottercast & these great chats/comments...my mind's been SPINNING over listening to 72 & 73 Pottercasts! that time-turner idea about 10/31/81???? YIKES!!!! so much to THINK about before hp7 comes out...thank you Jo....thank you everyone...who are coming up with such mind-tripping brilliant ideas! since this is the last time (and only my 2nd...chance to "pine" for an hp book's publishing...(i started books 1-4, then 5 super late in the game!) ...i'm relishing what i can now! so thank you!!! xo -kkWombat - p.s. PLUS i think wombat 2 has CLUES for us!!?? esp. with the time-turner idea? her question about what 3 best magic items to have...i think the answers were 1) time turner, 2) invisibility cloak, 3) broom...IF harry was there...at both ages...i think he used all three that nite! (or someone did?? will??) gads...mind is reeling again...hee hee... hopefully wombat3 door will open on April Fool's Day...the tarot card the Fool is a significant so&so afterall... :) xo

I'm glad that at least she updated. The announcement for the release date just sounded so cold and impersonal. I can't wait to read the last book Jo. I'll be sad but excited all the same.

Posted by LOL_dAnCeR Feb 10th 2007

she could have made the release date ONE DAY earlier. i leave for camp on that day!!!!

Posted by DarthWhitness Feb 10th 2007

Is it lame that I got a little teary just reading what she said in her diary? Aw, Jo. *hugs*
