Dumbledore: back (in some form) in Book 7
UPDATE: Scans from these articles can be seen here, thanks to Jenna!

The Times Online and The Observer have both released new interviews with the Harry Potter actor.

Of particular interest to book fans, the latter website provides an interesting experience Dan had with Jo during one of her OOTP set visits:
"Jo came down to the set at one point and I said, 'Oh hello, why are you here today?' And she said, 'Oh I just needed a break from the book - Dumbledore's giving me a lot of trouble.' And I said, 'But isn't he dead?' And she said, 'Well, yeah, but it's more complex...' I was like, [briskly] 'OK, I'm not gonna ask anything else!'"
The interview also includes talk on Equus and Dan's personal life. The Times article finds Dan discussing what he wants to happen to Harry at the end of Deathly Hallows:
"I want him to die because I have a melodramatic yearning for a death scene. And the prophecy in the fifth book says only one of Harry and Voldemort can live. Or is it that neither can live while the other survives? Oh God, what is it? The fans will kill me if I've got that wrong."

dan seems sooo nice. JKR might be reffereing to dumbeldore in his portrait or something. ???????????????? THE SUSPENSE IS KILLING ME.... I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

Posted by laria Feb 11th 2007

Dumbledore wont be back...cant bring someone back form the dead but I think the pensive is a good idea or memories of some sort or stories from others about dumbledore, perhaps a letter to harry written before his death ( i like this one the most but it doesn't seem like somehting JKR would do but a letter of hidden instructions would be good 4 harry) OH and DAN HOW COULD YOU?! Harry can't die!!!! It would wreck the whole boy hero premise of the entire series to have Harry die. Wat sort of moral is evil previals i ask you???

Posted by nickflamewizard Feb 11th 2007

If he s back it would be something like a mess.I still wonder why they don t use that kind of magical object that Hermione had in the third volume when the can came back in time and change some things. You have an idea? Please tell me. If you wanna see a Harry Potter fan made video about Draco holding a speech entitled ginger kids and aiming to Ron then enter newsfromharrypotter.blogs pot.com. That s what happens when you mix south park and Harry Potter.

Posted by Jonas Feb 11th 2007

Um, don't mean to burst anyone's bubble, but just because Jo said that Dumbledore is giving her a lot of trouble, it doesn't mean that it's Albus Dumbledore giving her a lot of trouble. It could very well be Aberforth. Jo has admitted that the barman at the Hog's Head is Aberforth, but I don't believe she's ever said explicitly that he's important to the plot. He could be just a red herring, or one of many explanations to Albus Dumbledore's omniscience (as Voldemort put it). Now, however, it could mean that Dumbledore (Aberforth) is giving her a lot of trouble. Isn't he [Albus, presumably] dead? "Well, it's a bit more complicated [it's Aberforth, you see..]"

Posted by MeNotHer Feb 11th 2007

his deeds can be remembered and furthered

Posted by Slither Feb 11th 2007

JKR is going to se Equus too??! Im soo Jealous now; someone i know is going to see it as well; aren't some Mugglecasters going to see it too? Andrew, Jamie, Ben and i think Melissa John and Sue are going to see it. WAAHHHHHHHHHH I wanna see it!!!

Posted by justanotherweasley Feb 11th 2007

The funniest thing was with the steroids, then the Long and hard. Haha, I love Dan! He's a cornicopia of awesomness. He's like me, he twists things:P

Posted by Slither Feb 11th 2007

Long and Hard. *giggles*

Posted by beachbumm5891 Feb 11th 2007

well we saw that he had a painting in the end of the 6th book. it said he was sleeping inside of his frame. and all the portraits of dead headmasters can still talk and stuff. so maybe hes not really as "dead" as we thought

Posted by goodgyal Feb 11th 2007

yay for dumbledore i think he'd probably won't be back she might just mean she's having trouble about maybe what he can say to harry from the picture frame...i wonder if they could get a picture like the one in hogwarts in sirius house since paintings can leave to their other frames it would be convient for harry and i think dans quote is histerical

Posted by GinnyPotter Feb 11th 2007

well OF COURSE dumbledore isnt "gone" i mean Jo cant just kill him off before Harry has to go on a huge quest and then never mention him again. Dan is a silly silly boy =] and for the record he got it right

Posted by Emell Feb 11th 2007

Well, that just about tells us that he will be there; whether he isn't dead, or thru a photo in the HeadMasters office,( I wonder> could Dumbledore use someone elses picture frame??) like at Grimmauld Place, I'm sure we haven't (seen) heard the last from our fav HeadMaster,,,,

Posted by SM4RTYP4NTS Feb 11th 2007

yay for dumbledore! yay for dan! boo for death!

Posted by anglophile_bibliophile Feb 11th 2007

skates- Dan's on steroids? Where the heck did you see that? Anyway, this interview was veeery interesting, especially the part where Dan was talking about how Dumbledore had been giving Jo trouble... Can't wait to see where that leads in the final book.... Could she have meant his portrait or something? No, it has to be something more important than that. Maybe Harry has to learn some more about Dumbledore that will lead him to the Horcrux? Or what if she was really talking about Aberforth, the guy in the Hog's Head? Because she didn't specifically say Albus, though we were led to believe that that was who she was talking about because Dan asked if he was dead.... Okay, now I"m rambling, but hey- that what we fans do!

Posted by DeathEaterKing Feb 11th 2007

I am sooo Confused!

Posted by dobby101 Feb 11th 2007

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!! Dumbledore "defeated" Grindelwald! Maybe...... ... MAYBE he made a Horcrux?

Posted by totalvirgo Feb 11th 2007

The mugglecasters are going to have fun with this....

Posted by Matrinka Feb 11th 2007

Hmmn. I don't know what to take from this... other than that we're going to see some form of Dumbledore. I wonder what Jo's reaction to his commentary is?

Posted by jkrfan211 Feb 11th 2007

Cute. :)

Posted by Quiscalus Feb 11th 2007

Okay, dobby101, Dumbledore would NEVER NEVER NEVER (too bad this thing doesn't have bold text) NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER make a horcrux. Just because he 'defeated' Grindelwald, doesn't mean he killed him. Second of all, even if he did kill Grindelwald, I don't think Dumbledore would want to make a horcrux, for it was he who said "To a well organized mind, death is but the next greatest adventure." So I don't think he would care for immortality. And lastly, Jo said that DUMBLEDORE IS DEAD!!!! Get over it, people.

Posted by nyrin Feb 11th 2007

Dan's so darn cute XD And ya this new bit of news is interesting. Too bad it didn't come out before M's book got published. But I guess we'll be hearing what they have to say about this in the next Mcast.

Posted by moonys_mate_356 Feb 11th 2007

...oh, more complex, eh? Well, this suspense is certainly exciting...yay, Jo!

Posted by crazyy Feb 11th 2007

mhm, dan has the best interviews. (: iiiloveeit

Posted by quidditchplayer Feb 11th 2007

Dan's interviews are always great, very interesting and he has a great sense of humor. I think he is choosing his proyects very well, they are all wonderful stories. And he knows us very well hehe actually he said it right, but what I most like is that he is a fan and he knows the fans. :) ----anglophile_bibliophil e , in the Observer interview Dan's mentions one of the reasons why it would be a bad idea to eat that hehe it's was very funny. I like his naturalness. :)

Posted by moonys_mate_356 Feb 11th 2007

Dobby 101, Dumbledore does not have the malice in his heart to create something as horrible as a Horcrux! Shame on you! I think what Jo means by this whole thing is that the circumstances and factors leading to and from Dumbledore's death are complex, and I dislike the way the staff titled this...because she never hinted that Dumbledore is not dead...!

Posted by Daaaawlish Feb 11th 2007

Dumbledore isnt coming back jeez people. I bet its something like how different characters deal with dumbledore's death or something about his portrait.

Posted by iliveforharry Feb 11th 2007

how exciting. dumbledore will surely turn up in his portrait, or his pensieve, like everyone else is saying. :D mugglecast today!

Posted by Patronus_Potter Feb 11th 2007

when i finished the 6th book, i was like, dumbledore needs to give harry his pensieve and all of his memories, or else how will he find the rest of the horcruxes? but im almost positive dumbledore talks to harry through his portrait at hogwarts, or maybe though a portrait in St. Mungos, cuz i bet he has a portrait there too.

Posted by mugglecast_fan Feb 11th 2007

We won't kill you Dan, we love you!!!!

Posted by hpdreamz Feb 11th 2007

Great interview! I think Dan, by far, reveals most about his true self when he does these things. I love how he's so open and he's fantastic at carrying an interesting conversation. I agree with the interview, he's smeone who it'd be great to chat to over a drink!

Posted by mudbloodprincess Feb 11th 2007

OMG!!! yay dumbledore!! lol but SIRIUS is the one i REALLY want back!! pls dan tell us something!! and dan: sooooooo disappointed in u! harry must NOT die!! lyl lyl

Posted by dobby101 Feb 11th 2007

i think harry is a horcrux did dumbledore know? i'm ready to bet, perhaps not my other hand, but a couple of fingers, that he knew

Posted by SCPGOH_ad24 Feb 11th 2007

its probably Aberforth Dumbledore

Posted by noliesjustlove Feb 11th 2007

Long and hard.. lmao. I love Dan. C:

Posted by marissa813 Feb 11th 2007

Posted by HPluver13 Feb 11th 2007

hmmm....I wonder what Jo meant? Can't wait for Deathly Hallows so I can find out!

Posted by Carlitto Feb 11th 2007

oh my god you all are stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's speaking about ABERFORTH DUMBLEDORE THE BROTHER OF ALBUS DUMBLEDORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and im sure about that 10000%!!!!!!!!

Posted by Kid_A Feb 11th 2007

A great advertorial of book seven, also a stupid conversation.

Posted by Spanna Feb 11th 2007

yay, i love dan wen he is interviewed he always makes me laugh, im the same age and could never imagine accomplishing the things he's done. it must be so hard with the press! not being able to go out n party ! ooo n that dumbledore things is realy interesting, cant wait ! ! ! !

Posted by snidgetseeker Feb 11th 2007

Am I the only one who has realized this, but, Dumbledore will be back in book 7. Past headmasters have a portrait of themselves hanging in the Headmaster's office. Their portraits can talk and move even if the person is dead. So obviously, Dumbledore will be back, just not in his "body and flesh" form, but rather as a portrait of himself.

Posted by ihavethepower Feb 11th 2007

I dont think it's Aberforth Dumbledore, I just think it isn't.

Posted by normalac Feb 11th 2007

yeeeeeee, we are going to read something about Dumbledore, yesssss

Posted by AlyGranger Feb 11th 2007

Probably just Harry moaning about him and being sad. Maybe stuff Dumby said abotu horcruxes that JKR wishes she could take back now

Posted by mastermike Feb 11th 2007

I'd like to know what QuidditchGirl has against Daniel Radcliffe, who has developed into a mature and experienced actor, has started taking on other roles besides Harry Potter to expand his talents and horizons and who will never work in McDonalds due to his multi-million dollar fortune? He comes across as intelligent and a genuine fan. I care as much about what he has to say for the role as I do about the Muggle/Pottercast lot.

Posted by jessiethinks Feb 11th 2007

I think that Dumbledore is dead. I think Dumbledore knew there was no way for Harry to come out of this alive. In the end maybe Harry was just going to have to die, and Dumbledore was wanting to buy Harry some time. I can see it happening. He loves Harry and he probably wanted Harry to have some fun in his life before he had to die. So maybe Dumbledore was doing everything he could to have Harry live as long as he could live, even sending him to the Dursleys for protection. He wouldn't be very happy there, but at least he would live. Anyway, maybe in the end Harry has to die, but Dumbledore was trying to give him as long a life as he could give him. Maybe Dumbledore even time traveled to change things. Time travel can be tricky and Dumbledore does say he retraces his steps. So if Dumbledore is giving Jo problems, maybe there is something in his past that needs to be explained. Or she has to explain where he goes and what he does during the summer and stuff. Maybe she even has to explain something tricky like time travel. Then again, if Dumbledore is giving her trouble, maybe she just see's him in her mind saying "No, Please don't kill Harry off. " LOL. I mean, maybe he could be so real to her that she thinks about him in her mind and he is upset with her for something.

Posted by mrsmarch Feb 11th 2007

Woohoo, please let him come back in some way or another... i've been having these dreams about harry getting to visit dumbledore's house and getting to know much more about him and his family... hope something like that actually happens.. *sighs hopefully* anyway I LOVE DAN...!

Posted by gymgrl Feb 11th 2007

Posted by Silverswan Feb 11th 2007

Posted by Mariami Feb 11th 2007

Oh, Dan *shakes head* You should had asked more! Doode... oh well, that's intriguing about Dumbledore, can't wait to see what she's talking about! Off to read the interview now.
