Dumbledore: back (in some form) in Book 7
UPDATE: Scans from these articles can be seen here, thanks to Jenna!

The Times Online and The Observer have both released new interviews with the Harry Potter actor.

Of particular interest to book fans, the latter website provides an interesting experience Dan had with Jo during one of her OOTP set visits:
"Jo came down to the set at one point and I said, 'Oh hello, why are you here today?' And she said, 'Oh I just needed a break from the book - Dumbledore's giving me a lot of trouble.' And I said, 'But isn't he dead?' And she said, 'Well, yeah, but it's more complex...' I was like, [briskly] 'OK, I'm not gonna ask anything else!'"
The interview also includes talk on Equus and Dan's personal life. The Times article finds Dan discussing what he wants to happen to Harry at the end of Deathly Hallows:
"I want him to die because I have a melodramatic yearning for a death scene. And the prophecy in the fifth book says only one of Harry and Voldemort can live. Or is it that neither can live while the other survives? Oh God, what is it? The fans will kill me if I've got that wrong."

i don't know which Dumbledore she is referring to but either way it will be really interesting!! i hope that we get some sort of glimpse into albus dumbledore's past - that would be really cool. and i'm just dying to know what the "glint of triumph" is too!!!!! well, we actually don't have too long to wait now.

Posted by Witchy_Woman Feb 11th 2007

'OK, I'm not gonna ask anything else!' Are you f***ing crazy Dan?

Posted by dobby101 Feb 11th 2007

but he's DEAD! the day Jo lies to us is the day pigs fly :-)

Posted by dobby_rocks Feb 11th 2007

Jo could be talking about his brother he too would be Dumbledore

Posted by dobby101 Feb 11th 2007

but why would aberforth be giving her trouble? hes not important to the plot, hes just a barman that likes to play w/ goats!

Posted by GrownUpChick Feb 11th 2007

Mastermike: as I read through these comments and found that stupid one from QuidditchGirl24, I, too, was going to get on her case about it but you beat me to it! Good for you, and well said! I don't understand what problem she is having with Dan. I think alot of the negative comments about Dan are coming from: 1. jealous boys or: 2. girls who are mad that they're never going to get as lucky as Oona Chandler, Ashley McCarthy, and others have allegedly gotten(anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about, just do an internet search on Ms. Chandler.) I find Dan to be mostly pleasant, thoughtful, and very funny in his interviews. To viki_hp_nerd and others who are mad at Dan for wanting to do a death scene...so what if he thinks Harry will die in the end? So do I, and lots of other people! The evidence is there. Of course, we may all be wrong, but so what? I don't understand why so many HP fans want to know what will happen in advance. I don't. I'm willing to wait and read it for myself when "DH" comes out. I guess some people just feel the need to have some false sense of superiority over others just because they were able to predict something in advance that turns out to be true in the final book. Sad. Oh, and one other thing...DUMBLEDORE'S DEAD! JO SAID SO! WHAT PART OF THAT AREN'T SOME OF YOU UNDERSTANDING?

Posted by Schillil Feb 11th 2007

dobby101: I'm not sure what part Aberforth will play in the last book. Perhaps nothing, but perhaps, as Albus' brother, he will play a small but crucial part in explaining what has happened in the past. As for the goats...remember that in the first book we learned that bezoars(sp?) are stones taken from the belly of a goat. Now why on earth would someone need that many bezoars that he could actually get in trouble for "doing something with goats"? Hmmm....poisons? Anyway, Dumbledore causing problems could mean either brother. Yes, Albus is dead, but, as previously mentioned, there are portraits and pensive memories to account for. And for the record, I'm worried for Harry but hoping for the best. I guess we find out in July.

haha- nice article. dan's funny. =D

Posted by Stitch Feb 11th 2007

Dan is vile and I can't wait until his career is over. I'm completely disgusted that Jo Rowling would go see this production of Equus. Jo, please don't go!!!!! Please don't support this. It's being performed in front of young children and is the desperate attempt of a pretentious child actor to show himself nude for kicks. I'm in tears, Jo. Please!!!!!

Posted by Die_Zimtzicke Feb 11th 2007

Maybe it's the aftermath of Dumbledore's death that caused the trouble, or that portrait is mouthing off at some point! Anyway, I love interviews with Dan. He's becoming such a grounded man. It's a joy to see him become an adult.

Posted by hpintwense06 Feb 11th 2007

HAHAHA! lol love the second quote from Dan, funny. but i wouldn't kill him over that. but oooooo Dumbledore may be back in some form?? well that is very interesting! it is strange that Jo would say that to Dan, but then again she said it's "more complex..." so maybe... lol i donno!!!

Posted by hpintwense06 Feb 11th 2007

i just had a thought: perhaps she just means something Dumbledore had said or told Harry in the past has come up at that point in the book and due to that, it is giving Harry a hard time. does anyone understand that? or it could be Aberforth, but I honestly have a hard time figuring how he will work his way into the book to be a big enough character. Jo could've meant that though. who knows!

Posted by dobby101 Feb 11th 2007

there's always the possibility that Jo was just trying to throw us off

Posted by leon_cita Feb 11th 2007

OMG Dumbledore will actually come back in some form?!! Are these good news or what?!

Posted by Trelawneys_Fan Feb 11th 2007

I think that we will see flashbacks of Dumbledore's past, and that's why JKR is writing about him.

Posted by EmmaWatsonGrrl Feb 11th 2007

Maybe he's a ghost..................

Posted by Sean3 Feb 11th 2007

probably about dumbledore's portrait or something

Posted by magicalmoo Feb 11th 2007

It seems a bit selfish to me, the fact that Dan wants Harry to die so that he can do a death scene...

Posted by mugglequeen Feb 11th 2007

OMG!! hummm.... JO WHY DO IT?? SERIOUSLY?? AHHHH! WHY SAY ANYTHING SOO CONTROVERSAL AS THAT!? ahhhh!! Oh gosh! Now this is going to gnaw at my mind! haha! She can really wind us up!

Posted by skates Feb 11th 2007

Anglophile_biblliophile, Dan stated that he's heard from some of the newscasters and reporters that they think he's taking steriods and stuff to have gotten so fit. So, Dan again makes jokes about the fact because HE IS DEFINETELY not doing anything of the sort lol. Sorry, if I didn't make that clear!

Posted by jamieenichole Feb 11th 2007

i must say, i am a big fan of Dan, but a little dissapointed. He wants harry to die so he can do a death scene? and doesnt even know the destiny (prophecy) of his own character? hmmm... makes me wonder if all the Equus fame has gone to his head... and heck yes for complex! i knew we'd see Dumbledore againn. :)

Posted by thephoenixlaments Feb 12th 2007

this interview cn signify a lot...jk rowling does not just go and blabber stuff to ppl....im sure 17 yrs of all this writing business has taught when to talk and when not to....maybe shes trying to give us a tenny little hint as to what we cn or cannot expect in the most awaited book of the century!!!lolzzz..im just gonna keep my fingrs crossd and hope that all of us do get to see a lot by more of the greatest wizrd ever!!!!!but true,u cant deny it,the way daniel radcliffe gives his interviews is awfully cute!

Posted by Slither Feb 12th 2007

A lot of fans think that Harry is gonna die. Even Evanna Lynch! and shes like a die hard fan. don't critisie Dan for thinking it'd be cool to do a death scene. i personally wouldn't mind if Harry died or survived. (i think that he'll survive tho). as long as Jo makes me feel *emotion*.

Posted by FearII Feb 12th 2007

She could mean the portrait. Given the rules she's decided on for wizarding portraits, I could easily see a portrait of a character we've seen alive giving her grief - but especially if Voldemort takes over Hogwarts.

Posted by Carlitto Feb 12th 2007

r u idiot???????????????????? ???? SHE S SPEAKING ABOUT ABERFORTH DUMBLEDORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by HpAlwaysN4ever Feb 12th 2007

Nice long interview. :)

Posted by NoDayBut2Day Feb 12th 2007

That. Was a brilliant interview. "Just so you know, I'm not trying to grow a horrible teenage mustache." Oh, God. Perfect seventeen year old, but so much more witty. I would love to just sit and chat with the guy.

Posted by Regulus_Black Feb 12th 2007

ugh. I hate Dumbledore. I realy hope he doesn't come back fully. He's so horrible to Harry. I like Carlitto's theory that she means Aberforth. I hope so. Albus is driving me mad. P.S> I LOVE SIRIUS BLACK!!!!!! pleasepleaseplease let him come back...

Posted by Die_Zimtzicke Feb 12th 2007

I've thought about it some more and I'm so glad Jo is going to see Equus. She loves Dan as Harry, but she knows he isn't Harry. There will be no little kids in the audience, by the way, unless their parents spend the big money for their tickets, so in that case it's the parents who are crazy. I wonder if his two ex-girlfriends are going to go or have they already seen all there is to see? Tee-hee!

Posted by Kareen Feb 12th 2007

Extremely cryptic but extremely interesting. Dumbledore doesn't seem like the type to come back as a ghost. He seems far too wise to do something like that. On the other hand, he might come back to give advice and guidance and make sure that the Order doesn't fall through. But yet again, that doesn't seem very much like him. Then again he may not even be back as a ghost, it could be something else, like he put a part of himself into Fawkes or something brilliant like that. I don't know. I'll just have to wait and see. And if any spoilers come up about it, I'm definitely not reading them.

Posted by sticky Feb 12th 2007

i hope we hear or see dumbledore again, but it isn't certain hes back or anythin. Have to wait and see....

Posted by anthonymcl30 Feb 12th 2007

Well, naturally, he will at the very least be back in portrait form, which i think probably will have a small role in HP7.

Posted by silverphoenix21 Feb 12th 2007

Yes, put Dumbledor in Deathly Hallows! (Even if it's in a flashback.)

Posted by silverphoenix21 Feb 12th 2007

Oops, I spelled Dumbledore wrong, I know it's supposed to have an "e" at the end. Anyway, that's still cool, I want something about our favorite headmaster in book 7.

Posted by FearII Feb 12th 2007

Silverphoenix, I know this is a long shot on a Harry Potter site, but are you the Silverphoenix who hosted that dragon-adoption site?

Posted by ronnie_lurves_hermy Feb 12th 2007

Interesting....dumbledore returns....possibly something that relates to the "put a stopper in death" thing that Snape mentions in book one... also interesting that dan wants to do a death scene.....probably wont happen, though. the whole series is about good triumphing over evil. it wouldnt make sense to have the evil triumph....

Posted by MrsRoXtarPotter Feb 12th 2007

AHA!!!!!! I TOLD EVERYONE I KNOW THAT DUMBLEDORE ISN'T COMPLETELY DEAD, BUT NOOOOOOO THEY WOULDN'T LISTEN!! WELL THEY ALL READ THIS AND NOW THEY'RE THINKING TWICE!!!!!!!!! for those of you who have seen 'The Princess Bride' "He's only mostly dead which means he's slightly alive" if you haven't GO SEE IT IT'S A GRET MOVIE! and dan, ur a cutie but JK's not killing Harry PERIOD!

Posted by hp323232 Feb 12th 2007

cul!

Posted by harrypotteraddict Feb 13th 2007

*thinks furiously*

Posted by sticky Feb 13th 2007

I hope he's back... one of dumbledore's quotes: ' to the well organised mind, death is but the next great adventure..' perhaps we will see him again, i hope so, but it diesn't mean that we will actually SEE him again, we could just look into his past or some of the characters could talk about him....... (thinking...)

Posted by jasmine Feb 13th 2007

Excellent interviews! But then again, Dan always gives great interviews and he keeps getting better and more articulate everytime. YOu can tell he's more grown up now. The 'long and hard' comment is very funny and so like what normal boys say when they talk among themselves. What I like best is that both reporters are very impressed with Dan. Those are superlative descriptions they gave there. hard to believe thay're talking about a 17 year old. But then again, Dan is not your normal 17 year old.~~~ BTW, Great to hear something about Dumbledore but nothing doing. He's dead and even if he figures prominently in book 7, he's still dead and may just come back as a ghost or something to help Harry.

Posted by ambi92 Feb 14th 2007

sheesh i wonder what kinda trouble. ............ i just wanna say I would certainly have KILLED him if he would have got that part wrong......

Posted by ambi92 Feb 14th 2007

sheesh i wonder what kinda trouble. ............ i just wanna say I would certainly have KILLED dan if he would have got that part wrong......

Posted by Potterfanatic93 Feb 14th 2007

Have we all forgotten the fact that Dumbledore is dead?! Jo said so on Harry, Carrie, and Garp! I also hate the fact that Dan wants Harry to die just because he needs acting practice. He makes me sick
