James Phelps, known for playing Fred Weasley in the Potter series, made his stage debut this evening in The Boy Who Was Woody Allen at The Pleasance in Islington, London.

Starring as the titular role in this new play/musical comedy, James plays an 18 year old Catholic boy at a loss with what to do with his life and as a result, decides to become Woody Allen. MuggleNet was invited along to the show's opening night, a review for which can be found here.

James also spoke to us briefly after the show and very obligingly talked about his time on Potter, learning comedic acting under the wing of Julie Walters and his favorite Woody Allen film. (For the record, its Bananas.) Despite just three weeks to prepare and rehearse for the show, James seemed relatively relaxed about the process, although, perhaps that has to do with a recent - seemingly terrifying - audition:

"It was a serious film about a comedian but for the audition I had to do a five minute standup to two people...that was pretty intense."

A full audio version of our interview with James can be heard here. Be sure to listen to the whole thing - James gives away that a certain something is being unveiled by the Phelps twins next week!

The Boy Who was Woody Allen runs until Saturday 9th February at The Pleasance, Islington. Tickets can be purchased here and don't forget about MuggleNet's exclusive BOGO ticket deal.
