Over this past weekend, the Western Cup of Muggle Quidditch was held at Maidu Park in Roseville, California. While seventeen teams from the region came to play only ONE team could call themself the Western Regional Champion. But the good news is that six teams from the region have earned a spot during the Quidditch World Cup this coming April in Kissimmee, Florida.
According to the International Quidditch Association Monday Snitch report, UCLA, the 5th ranked team in the world was the odds on favorite to win the Western Cup, and they set out to do just that. Winning their pool easily, they went on to face another powerhouse team, and Pac 12 conference rivals, in USC for the semi-final match. UCLA defeated USC easily with a 140-30 win to advance to the final match.
In the other pool, the Silicone Valley Skrewts were favorited to win their matches but in the Semi-final match they met a determined group in The Lost Boys, who are currently ranked #42 in the world. The Lost Boys defeated the Skrewts 100-60 in a tight match from start to finish.
UCLA won the final match 130-60 to take home the crown. With the win, the UCLA bruins were automatically entered into the Quidditch World Cup pool as the Western Regional Champion. As the Western Region has a total of six entries for the QWC this April, UCLA (#5) will be joined by USC (#20), Silicone Valley Skrewts (#8), Lost Boys (#42), Northern Arizona University (#41) and Arizona State University (#132).
Good Luck to all the Western Region teams advancing to the Quidditch World Cup. MuggleNet SnitchCenter will be watching your matches with great interest.
