While MuggleNet was having fun broadcasting our Harry Potter Oscar event on Sunday, Muggle Quidditch was busy throughout the country as three major tournaments took place allowing ten more teams to win qualification bids to attend the Quidditch World Cup in Kissimmee, Florida this April.

***Number in brackets () denotes World Ranking***

The Baylor University Quidditch team took home the Southwest Regional Championship trophy with a 100 - 80 victory over one of the best teams in the country, University of Texas at Austin. The tournament allowed the following teams entry into the QWC VI:

  • Baylor University (#13)
  • University of Texas at Austin (#4)
  • Texas A & M University (#1)
  • Texas State University (#21)
  • Louisiana State University (#31)
  • University of Arkansas (#34)
  • Oklahoma State University (#35)
  • Austin Quidditch (#52)
  • Roadrunner Quidditch (#75)
  • Silver Phoenixes (#78)

For all of the scores and highlights from the Southwest Regional Championships, head on over to the International Quidditch Association (IQA).

In other tournaments this past weekend, Viginia Commonwealth University (#51) took home the championship in the A Cup Worth Fighting For that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia. Villanova University (#9), who previously qualified for the QWC as the champions of the Mid-Atlantic Region, failed to contend in this tournament as they finished fifth out of the seven teams competing. VCU defeated University of Virginia Whomping Wahoos (#61) in the finals by the final score of 40-10.

Finally, six teams who have all previously earned spots for the QWC this April had met in Hempstead, New York to play in the Empire Classic. University of Maryland (#2) took home the title with a resounding 100-30 win over an unofficial group from McGill University (#11).

Quidditch teams around the World are getting into full swing with a barrage of practices and matches to gear up for the Quidditch World Cup. For all of the information on QWC VI, head over to the World Cup website. If you are planning to attend the Quidditch World Cup and need travel arrangements, be sure to use All About Group Travel, the OFFICIAL travel company for the IQA by heading to the AAGT website right here.

MuggleNet will be attending the Quidditch World Cup and the After Party at Universal Orlando. Will you be there with us?

Don't be silly, Dawlish. I'm sure you are an excellent Auror, I seem to remember you achieved 'Outstanding' in all your N.E.W.T.s, but if you attempt to — er — 'bring me in' by force, I will have to hurt you.
