Director Danny Boyle suggests J.K. Rowling would make a good head of state

British Director Danny Boyle, who won Best Director at the 2009 Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire and directed the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics, has recently stated in an interview that he believes the Queen should not be head of state, and has voiced support for an end to the monarchy. Says Boyle:

I think the pressure on them is utterly impossible, as recent events show. It's a ludicrous spotlight they're under. You can still have a royal family if you like, and the historical significance of that, but actually have an elected head of state. The American model seems to be healthy – and inevitable, actually.

When asked if he could see himself as the leader of his country, Boyle laughed the off and suggested someone I'm sure many of us could get behind - J.K. Rowling!

Though it seems Boyle's comment was probably made in jest, it's interesting to consider how J.K. would perform in an elected position. From the many charities she supports, and much of the content of The Casual Vacancy, we know she's interested in social issues. How do you think Rowling would do as a politician?
