Positive 'Equus' reviews
Last night, the first performance of Equus starring Dan Radcliffe took place in London's West End. DanRadcliffe.com now has a great review online, a snippet of which is below:

Throughout the entire show Radcliffe was well poised, well spoken, in character and emotionally charged. He hit every mark spot on... he portrayed the right balance between insanity and reverence, spirituality and emptiness, awakening and shutting down... it just all clicked in one go. He definitely struck the right balance on stage.

The Daily Mail says: For Radcliffe, it was a big mental leap from portraying JK Rowling's boy wizard to taking on a character in the psychoreligious exploration of equine worship. Radcliffe could have stood on the stage and read the London telephone book and the play still would have sold out. That he took on such an intellectual theatrical challenge was brave - and he succeeded.

You can see a new photo of Dan in the play here.

Congratulations, Dan! I am so happy for him! It's nice that they're talking about his acting ability and not just the fact that he is nude part of the time.

wow! nice reviews.

Posted by m_bml Feb 17th 2007

I'm happy for him...really good review...

Posted by GrownUpChick Feb 17th 2007

That was the review written by Jenna, wasn't it? Or was it the one posted by a blogger who attended the play? Well, right now all we get are amateur reviews. The real reviews won't come out until opening night on the 27th.

Posted by polkadots56 Feb 17th 2007

yay! wish i could see dan.. heeeheee. :)

Posted by TinaL Feb 17th 2007

GrownUpChick, the Daily Mail posted a great review where they quote a huge Broadway producer, Roger Berlind, a veteran New York theatre producer, said that if the production with Radcliffe and his fellow leading man, Richard Griffiths, wanted to move to Broadway, he would help raise the finance to present it. "He said that he thought Radcliffe was a 'natural stage performer'. Congrats Dan, i wish i could see it!!!!!!!!

Posted by Quidditchgirl24 Feb 17th 2007

well I should hope so, because he wasn't going to make on a nice ass, because that weridly shaped thing wasn't.

Posted by TinaL Feb 17th 2007

what I like about all the reviews from theater lovers and also from the media is that they are not focusing on the nude part of the play but on Dan's acting and that is huge for Dan to accomplish what he want it.

Posted by kiff Feb 17th 2007

It won't be on you tube as cameras and cellphones are forbidden in the theatre! But in the long term they might make a New York Theatre presentation of it, possibly next year after he finishes the HPB movie that he has now signed up to according to his two recent interviews in the Observer and London Sunday Times. They were very strict about no cameras or cellphones. Some people were searced! It is an adults only play so they take care...

Posted by potterheadx04 Feb 17th 2007

ohk so now we just need some pictures.. :)

Posted by sticky Feb 17th 2007

i congat dan on his performance, wish i could have seen it... i can only read half of the articles cos it won't load, still waiting to read the rest...... but what ive read so far im also glad there are commenting on dans acting more than the nude scene... :)

Posted by LadyM Feb 17th 2007

we wont get videos. hmph. well i atleast wanna see sum pics

Posted by GrownUpChick Feb 17th 2007

The Daily Mail...,that's just one step up from a tabloid, isn't it? That's the impression I got the last time one of their articles was commented on by Dan's fans. Anyway, I think it's better to wait until opening night when the professional theater critics can review the play. Also, Dan will have a few more performances under his belt so he'll be even better then. He really has to give his best performance when those critics show up. Here's hoping he does...break both legs, kiddo!

Posted by Padfoot_SiriusBlack Feb 17th 2007

Awesome! You rock Dan

Posted by mimi123 Feb 17th 2007

oh i'm so proud ppl were saying this could ruin his career it sure as hell didn't well done dan keep up the gud work!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by ghpfan Feb 17th 2007

Congratulations, Dan. PICTURES, PLEASE!!!

Posted by Norn Feb 17th 2007

the pictures of daniel colthed would be ok.... *I don't want any..* but pictures of him fully nude would be a no no..... Daniel isn't even legal yet in america so if picture of him fully naked were to come out on the net it would be a charge of possion of child porngrahpy.... anyway we should respect the laws of the thearters by not taking any pictures!!! people who want to see daniels preformance should have been there to see it....

Posted by ScienceNerd51 Feb 17th 2007

*claps happily* Many many kudos to Dan! Always thought he could do it. ^_^

Posted by Emmasj Feb 17th 2007

Why is this on Mugglenet? It has nothing to do with HP. It should go on Dan fansites, not Potter fansites. I miss the days when HP fans could seperate the actors from the characters . . . this is pathetic.

Posted by snapebaby27 Feb 17th 2007

For everyone wanting pictures if you go to the link and click on the thing that takes you to the full article and then go to the first link they have on the article there is a picture of his butt! I accidently stumbled upon it when I was at work. lol

Posted by bubblegumgirl Feb 17th 2007

I love mugglenet for always keeping us up-to-date on everything. its greats coz u only really need to keep checking only 1 website to find out info on anything remotely related to HP, which I love. U ROK MUGGLENET!!!

Posted by hpintwense06 Feb 17th 2007

interesting.

Posted by polish Feb 17th 2007

thats really nice, dan is such a good actor. i like that the reviews focus on his acting and not in the nudity, which is just a small part of the whole thing. go dan!

Posted by potterlovver814 Feb 17th 2007

I wish I lived in England so I could go see it!! :( tear tear. I bet it was one hundred times better than what was described! I wish it were a movie. Ah well, I can always see december Boys and My Boy Jack. But I can't wait for HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHEONIX!!!

Posted by AnyaMarcos Feb 17th 2007

Quidditchgirl you should just do your family a favor and kill yourself.

Posted by dobbyrocksmysocks31 Feb 17th 2007

that is the oddest pic ever - lol well done dan!!! xx

Posted by iceboots Feb 17th 2007

I just read this in the Mail and was surprised at how postive it was. They oftern give quite bad reviews for films and plays so I'm taking it to mean that Dan did a really good job.

Posted by jasmine Feb 17th 2007

"Radcliffe could have stood on the stage and read the London telephone book and the play still would have sold out. That he took on such an intellectual theatrical challenge was brave - and he succeeded."~~ NO truer words were said in this whole storm of Dan's nudity. The early reviews are favorable so what fears do I have that come Feb 27, the real critics (theater critics for that matter) won't give Dan a 10 for his performance? The producers are going to corect the mistakes (I hear the play went on longer than expected) and the acting performances even more polished. ~~ And quidditch girl, your attempt to turn all of us into Dan haters is not working. You were amusing at first, but now, even the non fans of Dan are irritated by you. Go home, lick your wounds and try to drink the milk of human kindness. Maybe it will help you grow up so you'll realize that acting like a spoiled brat will get you nowhere. You can't force all of us to your own way of thinking. You can't force us to wish that it were Rupert getting all these attention.

Posted by Kate_Loves_Harry_Potter Feb 17th 2007

CONGRATULATIONS DAN!!!!

Posted by aussie_hpfan Feb 17th 2007

Congratulations Dan! all the reviews I've read are great, even the tabloids who always want to write negative things, this time they have nothing bad to say! ha! And people should inform themselves before speaking because Jenna is a professional critic, it's her job you know. Anyway, all the comments in theatre forums were very positive, althought I think the fact that Dan received an standing ovation says all. :)

Posted by Witchy_Woman Feb 17th 2007

Great news for Dan, but that photo=weird.

Posted by aussie_hpfan Feb 17th 2007

Witchy_Woman, if you read the play is not weird, the actors who play the horses wear masks. This time John Napier, designer of the original play, designed them, and everyone agrees it's the best design the play has ever have. Anyway, the pic is of a very important scene of play, when Alan Strange remembers a crucial moment when he was a child.

Posted by jasmine Feb 17th 2007

I agree aussie_hpfan . The standing ovation says it all. I hear that it was very touching. Dan had this incredulous smile on his face to see evryone in the theater applaud him. Richard Griffiths also kised him on the head and that accolade form a fellow actor caps it all. Break a l;eg Dan for all your future performances! Can't wait for the real critics' reviews on FEB 27. Theater critics are among the cruelest, the most hard to please critics in the world.

Posted by mandie2010 Feb 17th 2007

Way to go Dan!!!!!

Posted by dans_girl Feb 17th 2007

if you go to the article link and click "The night Daniel dares to bare" there's a rear view lol.

Posted by Witchy_Woman Feb 17th 2007

Hey, I didn't mean to say that I thought the play was bad or anything. But the picture is weird. It just is. I know how the story goes.

Posted by fi_the_fairynymph Feb 17th 2007

well he seems to have struck a good theatrical chord! nice use of shadow in that picture....

Posted by lilyp Feb 17th 2007

Way to go , Dan! I'm so happy that every report I've seen of many fans that saw the play said Dan was very good on it. some said more much more than that.

Posted by Obee Feb 17th 2007

As much as I like that Radcliffe is trying to break away from Harry Potter by doing something which is so completely different, I hope he doesn't take it too far. I really hope pictures of his junk don't show up on the net because I guarantee it will create controversy the likes of which we can't even comprehend.
