WB supports Daniel
As of late, many British tabloids have falsely reported that Warner Bros. is displeased with Daniel Radcliffe's decision to perform in the play Equus. A WB spokesperson has in response to these claims issued the following statement:

"Daniel Radcliffe is an extremely talented actor, as well as a great collaborator and friend to Warner Bros. Pictures. We've had great experiences working with him on our films and fully support him in the artistic choices he makes as an actor."

In related news, here are some photos of Daniel signing autographs following Friday night's performance. Thanks, WENN.

I have already said this before (maybe on another site) but I'll say it again here. So what if WB fires Dan? Dan Radcliffe has now achieved a stature in this business that he can afford not to do the last two HP movies. Not just talking about the money. With the early positive reviews of Equus, Dan is now considered as a serious actor and he can now have his pick of any challenging role he likes. This press release is the first salvo of the negotiations between WB and Dan's agents. They want him back, they called him an "extremely talented actor" and it is now up to Dan's camp to fire their counter proposal. This is the reality of show business folks. Dan owes a lot to WB for taking care of him in the past, but if they chuck them out now, it will not be Dan's loss. Personally, I think he'd be happier not to be Harry POtter anymore. But of course, he'll stil come back to finish the series. Great waste if he won't.

I think it is needlessly distressing to others to push this line (though you are free to say what you want). Dan has repeatedly said he *wants* to finish the series, he is proud of his work and it would be his wish to carry on. What you sau about negotiations and money is true but the fact is both sides want him, the audience want him and he wants to do the work. Scaring people by saying he might not finish them is pointless scaremongering and will cause needless anxiety. I do not know why you push this pessimistic line when anyone can see that he will finish the movies because he wants to. Also, they pay better than any other project he might do next.

Yo trueobsession - hook me up!

Posted by Die_Zimtzicke Feb 19th 2007

The WB is crazy if they try to replace Dan now. He's becoming a great actor, and not everyone who goes to the films hangs around on the Internet looking at Equus pictures anyway. Some HP film fans don't even read the books. Dan has a right to do any acting jobs he wants when he is not contracted to show up to work for Warners, and he's entitled to any opinion he wants to offer about Harry Potter. Why can't he have a theory about what he thinks should happen like everyone else does? Opinions are like birthdays. They only matter if they're yours.

Smell that? That's called "Eau de D'amage Controlle."

Posted by GrownUpChick Feb 19th 2007

Okay, let's talk about photos! I doubt that there are any legitimate photos from Dan's "Equus" shoot that show full frontal nudity. Why take photos that can't possibly be used for publicity? Any of those kinds of shots that are floating around out there on the internet are fake. Oh, and may I just say...I really wish all the horny gay guys on here would go find themselves another site to visit, please.

Posted by effervesce Feb 19th 2007

Just the 2 cents of somebody who works a lot with actors... I'm very surprised at the fuss people are making over the whole ordeal. I feel like the media (and a large part of the fan base) has either taken a preteen "ew-he's-naked" viewpoint, or has tried to "act grownup" and praise him simply for appearing nude. To me, nudity is a moot point. Many established actors much more talented than Dan have showed a little (or a lot) of skin. The WB would hardly blink an eye at it when they themselves have produced many films featuring nudity. I wouldn't be surprised if some publicity people are using this controversy to give the image of Dan as a "mature" actor... Something I'd rather see in his acting than in his portrayal by the media or the state of his clothing.

Posted by juicebox Feb 20th 2007

The people who are telling each other that their opinions don't matter because they are "biased" need to chill, seriously. Same goes for the people who are telling off others for not liking Dan as an actor and any others who are critical of differing opinions. This pettiness is ridiculous, and it toally overshadows any valid points any of you may have made in your post. Someone disagreeing with you is not the end of the world, so why not try and make your point in a mature way instead of saying that people are lying to themselves?

"I really wish all the horny gay guys on here would go find themselves another site to visit, please." Oh, THAT'S real nice.

Posted by bennyjoe81 Feb 20th 2007

Good of them to say, but I just need to point this out: There can be a big difference between what a company can be saying and what they're thinking.

Posted by Die_Zimtzicke Feb 20th 2007

The Sun had a picture of Dan's bare backside, but not his front, thank God. I agree with the damage control comments, but what's the difference? Dan doesn't need Harry Potter money anymore, and he can get plenty of other work. Warners needs him for continuity more than he needs them for a job.

well good for them!!! I support Dan 2!!

Page over at her website has posted her review of Equus and I expected that praise for Dan's excellent performance but what I didn't expect is for her to say that Dan has found his calling in the theater. I hope Dan will still continue to make movies though Because although thetaer is great , it's so limited and many many people can't get to watch Dan's talent on such a limited medium. ~~~ And I agree. WB needs Dan more than Dan needs HP movies right now. And for the naysayers who doubt their word, just remember that they are constantly monitoring what happens in the HP movies. It's their number one goldmine and I'm sure they have seen rushes of Dan's performance in OotP. I'm sure they have seen his good performance also in December BOys. They are distributing that film and that's putting your money where the faith is. I'm also sure they have seen Equus the play. SO put all these together and you'll know why they said that Dan is an "extremely talented actor."

Guys stop getting so fiesty! Especially about Quidditch Girl or whatever the username is. Everyone's opinion is biased, that's inherent in the word "opinion" which is what all these views are! Everyone here is giving their opinion, none of this is objective, so to tell someone their opinion is useless because it's "biased" is kind of ignorant, since bias is inherent in opinion itself. Now on the issue of Dan in Equus. In my OPINION being in the play was a bad choice. It sort of ruins the image of him as Harry Potter a little, or it would if you saw the play I think. Also he is too young for the role. When I heard he was doing this play I just rolled my eyes. The whole thing about child actors trying to escape the roles that made them famous is so cliched and irritating, why can't he just be grateful that he got to be Harry Potter and do other projects as well. Stripping on stage just seems such a corny choice. I mean most people (who can look at the HP cast critically rather than through rose coloured glasses) can see that Daniel isn't even very good at playing Harry. His performances in the role are pretty mediocre, especially in comparison to those of Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, who I think have had their roles perfect since the very first film. Daniel has gotten better in each movie at playing Harry, and I think he got pretty darn close to a perfect performance in Goblet of Fire. But his performances in the first two films weren't anything special, and some of his lines even in the 3rd film were, frankly, cringe-worthy. I don't have any moral problem with actors stripping on stage but it just seemed a bit ridiculous. Dan should concentrate on getting Harry right before he starts getting his kit off. All that said though, the reviews were great so maybe he is better at intense adult roles like this than he is at roles like Harry Potter.

i'm sorry but quidditchgirl was being a bit rude...i mean...Dan is the best Harry i think...i mean, who else could be our favorite boy wizard? on the other hand..we should let her have the right to say whatever she likes...but i still am proud that WB supports Dan's decision to mature in his acting...even if that maturing means he has to show more than we or they would like to see if you know what i mean!!!!!! LOL

To JenMaree87, this is my opinion in answer to your opinion. 1. Dan is not too young for the role. surprise! Alan Strang is 17 years old in this play. 2. Equus has not ruined " the image of him as Harry Potter". That's a debatable issue since we all have diferent images about what Harry should be. IN any case, Dan is NOT harry POtter. he is not escaping him. He is just doing what other actors do: play a different role. 3. The BFCA who nominated Dan for Best young actor didn't have "rose colored glasses". They're objective critics who shortlisted a number of good performances from child actors in every year. And you yourself admitted that he got better in every film. As a mature young man, he has impressed many people, even tabloids, with his performance in Equus and so maybe you should stop wearing your outdated glasses and face the fact that as a young man, and through Equus, Dan is now known by many as a serious actor. That's no bull that WB called him an "extremely talented actor" publicly. HINT: they're referring to the new Dan, not the child actor of your yesteryears. and 4. stop forcing your expectations on Dan because hunny, he doesn't owe us anything. He doesn't have to be Harry POtter forever to keep us HP fans satisfied. He may not even come back to do the last two movies. I wouldn't be surprised if he won't. With the success that he's having now on stage, he may not want to go back doing childish fantasy movies.

extra WIN points for WB! Dan may or may not be the best actor, but that's not the point here. D:

Posted by Tinne Feb 21st 2007

I love the pictures...as I'm in some of them. They were taken on Saturday night...not Friday night. I saw the play 2 times and it was amazing. Daniel really is a great actor...so thank god WB supports him.

OK......... that's.... cool I guess. Wow, I'm totally nakad! I just got back from school camp, so I'll make this quick. I live in Melbourne, Australia which is basically at the bottom of the world and we never ever feather hear anything! WAAAAAAAAAAA :( Nah, it's cool. I'm originally from London, but we've been living in other countries due to my dad's work. But even then, Harry Potter wasn't famous, and after living in London and Tokyo, I never even heard of Harry Potter until 2001, when it first came out, and I was in Gr. 1. Then of course, it just good wayyyyyy bigger. I'm a huge fan, and it's really annoying because I can't talk like 'I love Harry Potter' at school because then I'll just get seriously bagged.... it sucks. Meh, anyway, when Dan was in Melbourne a few months ago because he was presenting an award at the AFI's, I was there, I got his autograph too! I MET HIM!! We got tickets, and it's strange, because we had way more news about the AFI (Obviously because it's only for Aussie films and it's being hosted in Australia [Melbourne, where I live]) but most of it never got like, overseas to the US or UK. I can't really remember what happened, it was really brief, but there was this thing going around, some people were talking about it, like I said it was very brief, about Dan and WB. I can't even remember it! LOL! I'll have to look it up on the Herald Sun or something... It's definitely not a rumor, it was about something serious I think, I don’t know, I'll double-check. Or other Aussies might know something about it; I was going in and out of everywhere at the time so I couldn't really keep track. Anyway, I got to get back to worrying about this kid called Teddy, he's American and he fell off of his bike on camp during the cycling. He's living in AUS for a year and he's got internal bleeding in his leg... poor kid, I feel really sorry for him. Everyone's really worried, he only got here on the 24th last year and he's ALREADY INJURED. God, this place is a...

Posted by HPFANTimothy Feb 21st 2007

-danger to foreigners... ANYONE WHO LIVE’S OVERSEAS, NEVER COME TO AUSTRALIA!!! Nah! Just kidding, you’ll love it over here! I hated it at first, it was all really different, but you soon get used to it! Oh yeah, and I think that Dan should be allowed to make his own choices…

Posted by nineandthreequarters Feb 21st 2007

Meh. It's all sound and fury signifying nothing. We love our celebs- we love to build 'em up and tear 'em down. Basically, Warner Brothers is now dealing with the fallout of not filming these movies back-to-back and now having career-minded, teenage actors on their hands. They (presumably) never had Radcliffe sign an agreement stipulating that such roles would be off limits, so they have no say in his choices. They've made him rich and he's probably not dependent on HP any longer (although given that he's done poorly at school- by his own admission- he might want to stick it out a bit longer). On the other hand if they choose to sack him because he's potentially ruining the image of a wholesome character that he (in part) created, then that's their decision. Our decision is whether, in the event that Radcliffe is replaced, we choose to spend our money on the last two films. "Equus" is an iconic play- I'd question Radcliffe's (or his agent's?) choices given his age and inexperience. A role like this is like launching yourself "Red Bull Flugtag"-style off the top of a skyscraper- nowhere to go but down. Hard. But hey, if he succeeds, more power to him.

good move on WB part... TAKE THAT ROSIE O'DONNELL!!!!

Posted by JenMaree87 Feb 21st 2007

Jasmine - you really need to settle down! I think he's too young for the role, most people who play characters on stage are older than the characters themselves. Of course Dan isn't Harry Potter, Harry Potter is a fictional character so it wasa bit useless of you to point out something so terribly obvious. I think Dan is becoming a good actor, but he's certainly not brilliant, and he has only just, I think, done a very good job of HArry Potter. It took him 3 films. And I'm not forcing any ideas on him, never met him. I don't care who plays Harry Potter, as long as they do a good job of the character. And if you think Harry Potter is a childish fantasy series, why are you on this site anyway, to fill in spare time?

Posted by HPFANTimothy Feb 21st 2007

JASMINE AND EVERYONE: DON'T GET YOUR BRAINS TANGLED!!!! I myself think that Dan is WAY too old to play Harry! And guys, thats the truth!! No matter how hot you girls may think he is, or maybe how much of a great actor he may be (which he is) he's - just - too - old! I mean, in Gof, did he REALLY look 14? Of course not! How old was he then? I FORGET!!!! The point is, let's not fight here! And Jasmine, who cares if people think Dan isn't a good actor!!! It's what you think and that's all that matters, and if people are rude about what they see people as, then it's their problem, not yours. Dan is a great actor, and some stupid girl, quidditchgrl ot whatever, isn't going to ruin that!!! And we can see if they are rude, because a sensible person would just post a polite criticism, not rude. If there's one thing in this world that people need to do, it's to respect eachothers beliefs and religions!!! And if people can't do that, then they must really have issues.

Posted by bennyjoe81 Feb 22nd 2007

"it all over in internet that "He WANTS JRK to kill Harry Potter. Thats doesn't sound a theory, that sound like a demand." It doesn't sound like a demand at all to me. It sounds like what he'd like to happen. If you were to be talking to JK Rowling and mention to her that you really want Harry Potter to live, would THAT be a demand? Just because he's the actor who plays Harry Potter in the movies, that gives him no more power to demand anything of what the future books hold. JK Rowling knows that, WB knows that, and even DAN knows that. "I find all VERY funny. But I find the fans girls more funny." Gushy fan girls bother me a lot too, but it take a whole lot more effort to hate something than to like something.

Posted by jasmine Feb 23rd 2007

JenMaree87, why would an actor who is the exact age as his character be too young to play that role? I think what you are really trying to say is that Dan got the role of Alan Strang eventhough he is a neophyte in theater and it is unheard of for an actor with no experience in theater to be given a lead role. But that's where Talent will get you hunny. NO matter what your age is. As for pointing out that Harry and Dan are two different persons, lol, I feel the need to stress that because you seem to be of the opinion that Dan has ruined Harry POtter. YOu can't seem to separate the two. As for HP being a fantasy series for children, but of course that's what it is. And after a very demanding role, albeit a teen role like psychotic Alan Strang, it really would seem that HP is child's play compared to the darkness of Equus.~~~ BTW, good point Timothy. I have confidence in Dan's looks and talents and no mere basher will shake that confidence.I just feel the need now and again to point out some things to some people who can't seem to move on like Dan did. He's growing up, he's expanding his horizons, maybe it's time for all of us to have a paradigm shift as well.

I think that its good hes trying to break out of the whole "good boy" Harry Potter thing, but it doesnt seem like him.
