First review of 'Order of the Phoenix'
First review of 'Order of the Phoenix' For the past few years, Warner Brothers has screened each Potter film in the Chicago area for lucky moviegoers. About a week ago, WB screened Order of the Phoenix at the AMC River East, and one of the first reviews is online now from Ain't It Cool News.

As with all reviews, this one has several spoilers. AICN gives the film a B+ and notes a running time of 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Man, some of you need to go offline for about 100 years. Not everyone that walks this earth is a JKR fan for christs sake. I thought though a tad poorly written was funny at times. The Harry being a p***y line was helirous and be honest if he liked the movie than it's a given you all will too.....

read the books or don't give a review. of course Voldemort won't die untill the last book (well.. depending on the last book of course) What would you expect? Voldemort to drop dead and tadaa end of movie, but hey! let's still make two extra movies though -_-

It is not fair that Alan Rickman doesn't get enough screen time. He's one of the best actors in the Harry Potter movies. He's brilliant playing Snape. Snape is more important than we know in the fifth movie, almost as much as he is in the sixth book. Alan should get more screen time! He's a great actor, always rules the screen, and is important! It's not fair that Alan doesn't get much screen time. I'm excited to see Alec Hopkins act though.. I want to see if he lives up to what us Snape fans expect. I can't wait. :D Summer can't come soon enough.

HOW DARE THIS IGNORANT REVIEWER CALL JO'S WRITING "MEDIOCRE"!!!!!!! How do people who haven't read the books at all get into these VIP screenings???? There are millions of hard core fans who would die to get in and this fool doesn't have a clue about Harry Potter... *rrrrrr*

Posted by Gryffindor_Seeker Mar 6th 2007

B+?!??!!

Posted by Dragon_queen4ever Mar 6th 2007

Once again, if someone who hated the books liked the movie, it can only be so horrible...

Posted by Onemorebookplease Mar 6th 2007

I'm really looking forward to it!!! I'm glad Gambon has finally apparently calmed down to Dumbledore's level - I wonder if they've actually given him a long sleek silver beard, rather than a short grey one that looks like it's been stuck in an electric socket. And have they found his half moon specs yet :p

I was going to read the review until I saw the reviewer hadn't read the books. His opinion isn't worth much since it's out of context.

Posted by hermione_1127 Mar 6th 2007

I don't really take serious a critic from someone who haven't read the books and who says that Jo writting is medicre. I still think that HP5 will be awsome jeje:D

Posted by dobby101 Mar 6th 2007

thats wierd. they said it was PG, but harrypotter.com says its PG13. i believe the site. OotP is if anything, scarier that GoF, because its just so dark all the time

Ok well I want to start by saying that review really SUCKED! I mean I know it's the first review of the movie, but for someone to review this and point out the obvious. Like Umbridge becomes annoying, and Gwarp is dull and awkward. WE KNOW THIS! She should sit her but down and read the books if she is going to review a movie with such a huge following. Nothing personal against the reviewer. Now one thing she pointed out which immediately made me gag. The movies did not become good until Azkaban... why because Oldman was in it? [whom she obviously adores! Nothing against that really] But if she'd read the books she'd know Azkaban was the most lacking of the first 3. Now GOF, we knew a lot would be cut, the book was hella long, but the first 3 were all about the same. I mean yeah lots was left out but Azkaban was horrible. I LOVED that book, and the movie is the only one I CANNOT watch ever again. I guess I am excited about this movie, I will buy it of course but am really saddened by this review. It's people like that, who get to see these films that ruin the theatre versions. Why because her comment card will read, get rid of Umbridge scenes, get rid of Gwarp scenes, show us more hollywood romance crap. I think these sort of screenings should be something advertised through HP mailing lists. Where people who have read the book for this movie can review it. That way... maybe more BS will be cut instead of plot. lol ok I've ranted long enough. Again nothing personal against the reviewer just generally upset with this whole Hollywood-izing crap for those too dumb or lazy to pick up a book.

Posted by erynelizabeth Mar 6th 2007

oh I forgot to mention. If the reviewer found this book boring... then their really not going to enjoy the HBP. Sure action happens, but at least the reviewer will get their wish. No Voldie showing up in the end only to be beaten and not beaten. lol

I understand that marketers may want the opinion of someone who isn't a total die-hard-love-every-word- JKR-writes book fan (because believe it or not, one or two people on the planet have yet to read the books and still like the movies). However, the reviewer contradicts himself without knowing it. He calls her writing mediocre.. but he HATED Umbridge. It is hard to write a really good villian, and JKR has done just that... so much so that the adaptation of her character to screen has retained all of the characteristics of her particular brand of evil. Kudos to the adaptation, I say. In short, the movie will probably rock (of course) and this reviewer has such poor writing skills that he'll never get a real job reviewing movies (thankfully).

Posted by Dane Mar 7th 2007

The guy reviewing obviously isn't a credible source to be listening to.

Posted by Devildog Mar 7th 2007

I posted once, I'll post again. When fans are calling for torture and the killing of a person who writes a review they do not like, they may need to step back and take a breath. And for those that think JKR writes to tell a story, and not to make money...you are delusional.

Posted by starzenigma Mar 7th 2007

Totally weak and invalid review. I just hope there wasn't as many non-Harry potter fans, in that screening, writing bad reviews that'll ruin it for the rest of us! side note: i think it's funny that to him, the spoiler is that Voldemort gets away... Who is this guy? What a joke. LOL!

Posted by flibbertigibbit Mar 7th 2007

I understand that this guy probably had no idea what was really supposed to be going on with this story... but seriously, its an adaption from the 5th book of a 7 book series. did he really expect something earth shattering to happen(well, apparently he thought the main villan would die two books early, but...)? other than that, and considering that he dosent know whats supposed to be important in the story, i'll give him an A for effort. the other thing that bothers me is that its only rated PG. OOTP is a scary book. i dont care how many bookstores put it in the kids section, my mother certianly wouldnt have let me read it when i was 8. they shouldnt butcher the movies to make them more children friendly, especially if it dosent do justice to the book.

Posted by anne_hplover Mar 7th 2007

omg! i cant believe the stupidity of the review(nuthn personal against the reviewer)...but honestly, can someone who doesnt read HP actually hv the nerve to talk abt the mov! and lk honestly i think these special screenings should be prioritised for actual true HP fans, rather than just any1 they see on the street... only a true hp fan can properly judge the mov..how cn u judge it without reading the bk? and lk there was no story?what is that all about! and obviously grawp is supposed to b borin, n umbridge is supposed to be hated...and the story is getting too long?well if its too long then opt out of it instead of sayin that prolongin the death of voldy is pointless and boring, cuz im sure many of us hp fans are actually sad that the series is ending, n that's with the 7th bk, way past the 5th...gosh i cant believe the stupidity of that review!

Three words: What An Idiot!!!This man is in no position to insult J.K.Rowling! Mediocre writing. Oh, please! Lets start with what he said about the cast. Fist of all I do not trust him in this category. I do not trust anyone who cannot spell Radcliffe correctly. He said Evanna is the best child actor, which is almost the only thing I agree with him on. From what I have heard she will be great! The rest of what he wrote is nothing but rubbish. Most of it not even about the movie, more like his life story...

Cho did it? Cho did it? Cho did it? Cho did it? Cho did it? Cho did it? Cho did it? Cho did it? OMG! No F**King way! OMG!!! And a MAKE OUT SESSION!!! NO WAY!! OMFG!!!!!!! Wow.... That lucky girl! She is s00o0o0o0o0o0o0o0ooo lucky!! ACCCK! I wish I were her..

That was possibly the most unprofessional review I have ever read. The person who wrote that did not deserve to be one of the first to see OoP. If he had never read the book and had never got to personally critique the characters on his own, he should not be able to critique the actors playing them on screen. I personally am not a fan of the movies because of fans of the movies who blow off the books because it is easier to watch it, but I respect Rowling and her work. The review just proves that people will never know the true meaning of something, even if it is put under their nose for free.

Posted by Dragon_queen4ever Mar 8th 2007

sooooooo....who has the torches and pitchforks? 'Cause frankly, he's not going to live very long is he?

Posted by Parry_Otter225 Mar 8th 2007

"So yeah, I felt that not a whole lot happened, and this story could possibly have been squeezed into another film." Bullshit. You can't combine Harry Potter. It would destroy a lot of it. The films are nowhere near as good as the books, but they're not bad either, and combining them would take away from them. Can we get a review from someone who knows what the hell they're talking about? Please?

Posted by SomebodyElse Mar 8th 2007

If the movie can get a good review for someone who doesn't even like the HP books all that much, then . . .

Posted by DarthMuffin Mar 8th 2007

I am not a qualified reviewer myself, but I truly think that the review is flawed and weak. Not only was the language very average (which never helps), but it seems to me that the reviewer was narrow-minded and that he focused too much on some details at the expanse of the big picture. The fact that he has not read the books does not help his cause either (and makes his comments concerning Umbridge rather irrelevant). The part that really got me was when he said that the movie could have been squeezed with another one. This could imply two things: 1) the reviewer does not know what he is talking about at all, or 2) the movie itself is very shallow and does not properly represent the novel (we all know that there is a lot happening in the novel). Needless to say, I really hope that the reviewer is to blame. Still, the acting is shown in a positive light and we can only rejoice of that; most of the time, bad acting is what kills popular movies. Overall, I am happy to see that the movie did not get trashed, but I do not think that the review is very pertinent.

...read the books before you make a review...

Posted by SiriusJack1122 Mar 10th 2007

unbelieveable. I read this review and the other three and as usual, this movie will be completely screwed up. But I guess that's okay, because the films are just based on the books...very LOOSELY based on them. It's just a Hollywood interpretation and that's it. It doesn't really matter. I just won't take it so seriously, that's all...

Posted by july21tillhp7 Mar 10th 2007

true the movies are very LOOSELY based on the books =/
