Please tell me they didn't leave out the bit with Mr. Weasley and the snake and all of harry's dreams.... because that is SOOOOOO important!!!!!!

Posted by siriusblackhead Mar 5th 2007

OMG. a petition? Are you serious? A petition is not going to make the direftors of the movie just suddenly go, "oh, we've made it too short" everyone come back so we can film some more." my god. honestly the film will NOT be ruined. if you dont beleive me check out leaky cauldrons review

Posted by siriusblackhead Mar 5th 2007

yes JKRsunkmyship, the DO have the scene where Arthur gets bitten by the snake

Posted by btween2evils Mar 5th 2007

I think this review was MUCH better than the first one posted. However, I'm a little sad to hear some of the major things that were omitted/edited. Also, it's sad to hear that "It was a lot less serious than the book was." Especially because the death scene in GOF was SOOO well done. As dramatic as that scene was when it only involved a fellow student... you'd think that would tell any director that the fifth movie HAS to be dark/serious and there aren't many things that can be cut out (of course, I understand that it's hard to turn almost 900 pages into one average length movie).

Posted by kathryncolado Mar 5th 2007

i'm really concerned about the whole SNAPE thing...he keeps being ignored in the movies (not so much ignored but he isn't as acknowledged as he needs to be)...and as i have noticed from about 3 different reviews on the ootp, he is not a big part in the film either. couldn't this create a huge problem for the following future films? he is a huge character and an important one at that. I dont know, maybe i'm just overly concerned. To be honest, i really wish there wasn't a time limit on films...i'm sure that all of us hp fans would be more than willing to sit in for an additional half hour to 45 mins...they need to do the whole lotr type deal...make it 3 hours and then have an extended version released on DVD...it would give us HP fans more to look forward to...wouldn't you agree? Sorry i went off here a little bit...

I can't wait until HBP/DH. OotP is going to be awkward... MAKEOUT SESSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by bookishballerina Mar 5th 2007

i'm kind of scared. it sounds like they really compromised on some major points--which i can't begrudge them, given the length of the novel, but it's always sad to me anyway. it always seems like they make the wrong decisions about what to give up and what to keep. but still, i'm sure it's wonderful and i'm SO EXCITED

Posted by Elphin Mar 5th 2007

No Lupin? :(

Posted by tonks_394 Mar 5th 2007

What everyone here has to remember is that the movies are BASED on the books. That means that the IDEA for the movie came from the Harry Potter books. It's not the actual book. They are two compleatly seperate things. If you like a certain part and they don't include it in the movie go back and read it! The books are waaaaay better then the movies anyways!

Posted by iheartMalfoy Mar 5th 2007

GAYY! I hate when they make the movie less serious then the books. Seriously.

Posted by dragons_melody Mar 5th 2007

what is the link for the review on leaky siriusblackhead

Posted by bookm Mar 5th 2007

It sounds different... but they did have to fit the whole book into a movie. I was hoping they wouldn't leave Malfoy out that much, but I guess I'm wrong. He's becoming such a minor character in the films. But they'll have to bring him in more in HBP!

Posted by lupinsgirl15 Mar 5th 2007

OMG!!!!I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!! it sounds like it is going to be halarious. i cannot wait! it is gonna be so freaking cool. it sounds like it will be really great for peopl e who havent read the books, because of course it is never as good for the peopple who have read the books because they know what they're missing. but still. it is gonna be so cool. im bummed that lupin doesnt come with the rest fo the guard, and that you dont' see much of malfoy. but ah well, it sounds like it might follow the book a lot better than some of the others have.

Posted by dragons_melody Mar 5th 2007

does any one no wat the link is to the leaky review cuz i looked and couldnt find it

Posted by LittleOddball Mar 5th 2007

Well, the review is good and straight to the point but on the whole I'm disappointed with the tidings therein. They've chopped and changed where they had to and I think the Cho thing wsa a good idea, cut out a lot of annoying shoe-leather in filming terms but I feel that from what the review says the ending has been slaughtered. I'm full of trepidation, to say the least, about the direction the film is taking. One can only hope that these fears are unfounded and that they haven't destroyed the movie. Also why does no-one mention that while in look Bellatrix differs a bit from the book Helena Bonham Carter is totally hawt as her???

Posted by The_Marching_Band_Of_Manhattan Mar 5th 2007

Wait.... SO THEY CHANGED THE PROPHECY?!

Posted by potterfan1979 Mar 5th 2007

I have to say that I understand them changing a few minor plots to be able to fit things into the movie that should really be done, (S.P.E.W.) but honestly. Changing things for the sake of changing them will really anger your hard core audience (namely those of us who take the time to read and respond to these). Meeting Neville's parents is actually a huge plot point, you see why he is the way he is. Changing the snitch.. and worst of all changing the way the prohecies are read and kept.... major to the next movie. Also according to the person who saw the movie mad eye leads the way to the OOFTP headquarters by tapping his walking stick.... the whole point is learning about secret keepers, and how they divulge information.. like what happened to harry's parents. honestly it would have taken up less film time for harry to read the paper to enter then for mad eye to tap.. and we could have gotten more important point from the story. Like the weasley twins swamp. "That was a really good bit of magic"

Posted by LittleOddball Mar 5th 2007

Also, very very VERY concerned that there is no mention of Snape. I know Mr Rickman is getting older and he isn't as gorgeous as he used to be but darn people, Snape is important and not just to his legion of fans (myself included). He's a huge plot point and the occlumency thing, the memory ...I will be SO MAD if they ommit Snape's worst memory. I may write *gasp* a letter! (which I will never send XD)

Posted by raspberrylemonade08 Mar 5th 2007

I want to read this so badly but I'm not going to let myself. I am going to keep with the plan I had for the 4th movie...don't read, watch, or listen to anything that reveals stuff from the movie. This is definetly a challenge!

Posted by lobster16 Mar 5th 2007

Just remember, everyone... JKR has a hand in how the story goes. She is not going to let the most important things get lost in the movies. Even though the movies are not like the books in all aspects, they still have the main story lines with some continuity. Remember how she stopped a specific story line in the movie PoA because it would have affected the storyline for DH? Just keep believing and keep open minds and all will be well.

Posted by hpfan007 Mar 5th 2007

I wish i had enough slef restraint to not read this but I don't. I'm really sad about all the cuts, but I know I'm still gonna go see it 4 times. I wish Draco was in the movie more, but they've got to cut some of it. How could they cut the prefect part? That was so important, it showed Harry reflecting on himself. Even though I'm kind of mad, I still know it will be amazing! :)

Posted by dragons_melody Mar 5th 2007

but they have pics of the snapes worst memory thing calm down u wont have to send *gasp* a letter!

Posted by LittleOddball Mar 5th 2007

dragons_melody: Haha, it shows pictures of snape teaching occlumency, not the memory (I think), but now I think about it I know they cast young snape so it must be in there. Thankyou for your calming words XD

Posted by dragons_melody Mar 5th 2007

ur welcome the movie is going to be amazing even though tom (draco) isnt going to be in it much i know ill love it .

Posted by m00n_un1t_luna Mar 5th 2007

WHAT ABOUT LUPIN????

Posted by karategirl Mar 5th 2007

wow they've definitely changed a lot...but then again, its always a love/hate relationship lol i really can't wait for july!!!

Posted by freeride13 Mar 5th 2007

THAT SOUNDS LIKE CRAP! They left out everything that made the book the book. It is a serious book and URG they totally ruined it. The battle sounds like crap, "the other kids don't fight a lot, noone gets hurt." That was such a huge part of the book. Running through all the rooms, getting hurt, smashing things, casting spells. URG THEY RUINED IT!

Posted by demonchild13 Mar 5th 2007

Wow... What a difference from the last review! The one thing that made me really angry about is that they CHANGED THE PROPHECY! That needed to be the one thing that shouldn't have been changed. Didn't it take Jo forever to word the prophecy the right way and WB went and changed it! That makes me so angry because that should've been the one thing that shouldn't have been changed. Oh well, this movie does look exciting but I'm not happy about all the changes. I can't believe they just cut out so many important subplots because Ron becoming prefect was a big deal at first to Harry and I'm unhappy with all the changes they made to Ron's character and this was his book to shine in my opinion. I hate how WB made Ron weak and by cutting out the subplots that involve him is really demeaning towards his character. It wouldn't have taken that long to explain it really, maybe a minute at the most then show Ron with his badge in a few scenes while they're talking, its not that hard but I understand some things had to be cut. Oh well....

Posted by LittleOddball Mar 5th 2007

I reckon the movie will be good. Dragons_melody is right. I'm not even gonna squirm about them cutting out important bits. THough tbh I think they could have dispensed with Grawp. I didn't even enjoy reading him. If it's comic relief I suppose it's acceptable but ...wth ever. Let the experts handle it their way. Over and Out.

Posted by MusicIsLaw Mar 5th 2007

That really sucks about the whole prefect thing. I was looking forward to that. I'm also kinda upset about the no show of the Longbottom's. That would have given the movie more emotion. That's about all I have to say......... Somewhat disappointed.

Posted by sexy_slytherin Mar 5th 2007

darn, i didn't think they'd cut THAT much stuff from the movie... they shouldn't have changed the ginny part and the prophecy part since the last book's coming out and that MAY be crucial for later on... but then again, if it was THAT significant, Jo would have told the movie ppl to put them in... since she told them kreacher had to be in it, and i now know why kreacher is so significant, especially in the 7th book... (read the editorials)

Posted by lilac_kazz Mar 5th 2007

...OMG!!!! i can't believe "they" change so many parts...but it sounds Awesome!!!!can't wait to see it!

Posted by TreRadical Mar 5th 2007

aw man.. the cho tattling on them thing and then harry & her breaking up is all messed up.. i also was looking forward to seeing neville's parents.

Posted by moony713 Mar 5th 2007

Is Lupin in the movie at all? :'(

Posted by UniversalGSPrincess Mar 5th 2007

When has ANY movie from ANY book been actual and just like the book? NEVER!!! We just have to tell ourselves that! Movies never do the books justice!!

Posted by christianaeg Mar 5th 2007

Quote: OMG. a petition? Are you serious? It would be more then a miricle if I even get a response back. All I can really hope is that SOMEONE there reads it and even if they just read it and throw it in the trash, I was still heard by someone. I want to be able to say that I didn't just go "OotP's too short. oh well nothing i can do." So I made a petition where people could at least see that there's other people out there who don't love the movies and their lengths...

Posted by dragons_melody Mar 5th 2007

thanx for backing me up LittleOddball

Posted by snapeward777 Mar 5th 2007

Like it! It sounds good Im REALLY frustrated on some of the things they cut though....grrr. Cho ratting? But, well, you cant have the movie 5 hrs. I CANT WAIT TO SEE IT!!!! and the makeing out part? I WANNA BE CHO

Posted by CanadianHP Mar 5th 2007

After reading this review, it has made me VERY DISAPPOINTED about seeing the fifth film...makes me even wonder if its worth spending my money to go and see it if its going to be as bad as it sounds... ...I swear, they need to get a new scriptwriter because by the sounds of it, they aren't being faithful to the book. I can't see why its soooo hard not to keep faithful to the books, i mean like, I understand that minor details are unable to be included and I'm fine with that. BUT TO CUT OUT HUGE/IMPORTANT ASPECTS which deal with the advancement of the plot in the harry potter series and foreshadows things in the sixth book, thats when it gets complicated. - The part where Harry doesn't read "Grimmuald Place" on the piece of paper although isn't HUGELY significant, isn't minor either. It leads to the explanation of how its secret.... - Have the WHOLE PREFECT thing cut out is probably one of the most disappointing things for me. Because this in my opinion shows that Ron at times is able to be the top of everything too and it shows Harry's change in character as he becomes jealous of Ron being prefect while he never. - Even though I find Draco amusing, I understand not having him present alot in the movie...he wasn't a whole lot present in the book as he becomes a more important character in the next book. - "THE KISS" part is slightly annoying. We don't see Harry and Cho "making out" in the book, so I would have rather that have been cut out and replaced with something such as Ron and Hermione finding out that they had become prefects... - Not mentioning Firenze as the divination teacher somewhat worries me because i think him being kicked out from his group is going to become a huge aspect in the seventh book as centaurs know more about things about the wizardry world than what they let on... - ....and need i say how mad it makes me to hear that they TOTALLY CHANGED THE PROPHECY AND THAT PRATICALLY EVERYONE ELSE HEARD IT... I hope the 6th movie is better :(

Posted by sschober Mar 5th 2007

I was very excited when I saw the review, thanks! And I agree with BLOODYHELL in saying that they can't fit everything in, and about Mad Eye tapping the stick....they never really explained secret keepers in The Prisoner of Azkaban, so they probably didn't want to explain it now....but that they cut out the hospital is kind of upsetting.

Posted by dragons_melody Mar 5th 2007

what is the link for the leaky cauldron review , wait if there is no prefect thing um that means malfoy probably wont say that line ill be dogging ur footsteps thing and that means at the end scince draco isnt seen much there will not be much of a fight i really hoped this movie would have been a lot more serious , im sorry im just blabbering ill shut up now .

Posted by NJGirl Mar 5th 2007

Okay, first of all, what's with all the cuts in the movie??? They take out the prefect scene and the hospital scene, which are 2 scenes that I was looking forward to!! There's also not a lot of scenes with Draco and he's one of my fave characters!! And Cho ratting them out? I mean come on! But the biggest twist is EVERYONE hearing the prophecy! I mean no one was suppose to hear it, just Harry and Dumbledore. That will probably have an effect in HBP (but now we'll probably know how Ron and Hermione act about it, before J.K. tells us). Now, I'm a BIG Harry Potter fan, so I'm a bit disappointed that they aren't sticking to the plot. Don't get me wrong, I know the film will still be AMAZING, but those tiny parts help the movie come together!

Posted by Tony_the_Terrible Mar 5th 2007

I don't like the sound of what they left in the movie, but honestly I think I will be too excited that week for DH to care about WB's slaughter of OOTP. There will plenty of time after that to be upset though :P

Posted by levicorpus010 Mar 5th 2007

its sooooo good to see a review from someone who knows what theyre talking about. that last one PISSED ME OFF

Posted by sillyme Mar 5th 2007

It sounds pretty good...the changes aren't that big i don't thnk, except i think the kiss could be done better, and the prophecy. but overall it doesn't sound as drastically changed as HBP I kinda wish that NO ONE had seen it though. i know i can't resist the temptation to look, but i kinda wish it were a surprise for everybody.

No prefect stuff?!?!? That's sad that really added to the r/hr bit of the book!!! No fair!

Posted by britishwannabe Mar 5th 2007

after i read that draco is barely in the movie, i stopped reading completely. This is disappointing beyond belief. I had great expectations for this movie. Not anymore. Why why cant you meet Neville's parents in this one??????
