Please note, the PG rating may not be accurate, it's just what they had up for this screening. I highly doubt they were disappointed with the outcome of GoF's PG-13 rating so to deliberately tone things down to achieve the PG makes ZERO sense. I was so sure they were gonna love including the part where Hermione is, let's face it, nearly killed and Ron is attacked leaving scarring. I think they should have made sure those parts were in to keep up the tension, instead it seems they've cut all the rooms except the Veil room and the DEs pretty much win the fight with only Harry escaping when Bellatrix runs off to Voldemort. I hope the sextet actually do fight the DEs but I bet the part where Harry tells Snape that 'Padfoot' is in trouble is cut and the Order just show up without being told.
man am i slightly disponted...but oh well this summer i get to dress up harry potterish, so i dont really care. just can twait untill the midnight showing.
thanx for the info i was getting angry there
Good review, but no mention of the pensieve scene. I can't believe they changed the ending and the prophecy so much. And I was looking forward to meeting Neville's parents. I'm still excited to see it though.
that sucks about the prophecy. that was the one main thing i was hoping they would leave unchanged. ah well :(
thanx for the info...somethings are a bit disappointing, I wish they woldn't change a lot of the things, but they can't stick to the book...well, it sounds good
Vote for hp at the imdb poll Which summer blockbuster are you looking forward the most? im db.com/p oll/
Who is this idiot? Never read a book but the second, doesn't like JKRowling's writing, has no clue to who any of the characters really are in the story or how they got there, and yet he dares to critique the film? Only the true fans and readers of the books understand the depth of the situation and where all the character's motivations stem from. And the acting is spectacular by everybody!!!! Horrible to think some fool gets paid to see a preview of OOTP and to write badly about it. Give me a break!
I'm dissapionted, i cant b leave they left out all those scenes, i mean in the GoF they didnt even mention SPEW, or that rita was an animagus, but dont get me wrong im still excited to see the movie
Wow, congrats WB seems like you've screwed up another HP movie. Can we please get Chris Columbus back already??
Oops! I'm the idiot! My comment was for the the other review! Not this very inteligent fan! Sorry!!
*sigh* I'm happy for this review, but still! It seems like there isn't much in common between the book and movie. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SWOMP? I. LOVED. THAT. SWAMP! And Cho tattletailing???? OOC! NO!!!!!!! And what exactly does full-fledged make out session mean??? I'm going to see it with my dad, and I don't want him to...*sighs again* I'll just wait and see. Wish I could see a screening...
I am SO disappointed in the movie people! They altered and cut out so much stuff! I couldn't be more mortified! AAaargh! I'm going to scream!!! I'm so angry right now. Some of that stuff I don't understand why they would change it! It's bloody mental!!!
I will give my life to see this screening!!!!!!!!!!
When they didn't cast Marietta, I figured Cho would be it. There IS an invented scene, the Bella's prison break out is filmed (sez leaky). I could have lived without that, and been happier to see the Draco taunting Harry at the quidditch match scene, I've always felt that was so powerful when Umbridge "emasculates" Harry by taking away his phallic broom. IMO Grawp is boring.
padfoot_4_eva -DUDE we need to go to the midnight opening together i am so going!!!! like i cant wait. its gonna be TIGHT!!!!!!
Oh this is dissappointing... I mean... sure, when I go see it for the first time I'll probably think it's great... But seeing it from this straight forward point of view... v_v ... They did so many things differently. And the prophecy - oh the prophecy!!! How could they change it?? Why does WB always dissappoint me? Why can't they be more like the ones that made Lord of the Rings and stayed more true to the books??
OMG I just had to read the Review. I can't wait to see the movie sounds great!!!!! I LOVE HARRY POTTER!!!!!
doesn't jk get say in what is included in the script? why would she allow the prophecy scene to be that way? i mean, what the heck?
Well, they already totally ruined GoF - took the CENTRAL book of the series, with most character development and made an action-flick out of it! I guess this one will still be better. But I am furious about letting everyone hear the prophecy, about not letting all of them have a good fight, about making Cho the traitor and about no Quidditch. *sniff* Well, it seems at least this is not just going to be an action flick - it seems the director was adamant about keeping the political allusions in.
OMG, THAT IS SO..................COOL? !!!!!:)!!!!:(!!!!!!:P!!!! !!
THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOO MUCH FOR A DECENT REVIEW!!!! THAT OTHER ONE WAS A JOKE< THE GUY WAS A MORAN! THIS REVIEW WAS GREAT!
GOODNESS IM SO EXCITED. Even more for the book.. i love how u said its not a kiss. ITS A FULFLEDGE MAKEOUT.. love it love it.. i cant wait to see that ...
Well, I wouldn't have minded the loss of Grawp; I honestly thought, while reading the book, that the entire bit was definitely outside the plot, and if he is integral to the future, Hagrid would have storied the character in later. But to cut Marietta! to cut the choice of prefects! to not even alude to Ginny's love life! and to change the prophecy???!!! AAARRRGHH!!! Has any of those executive movie money making morons at WB, or the screenwriters for that matter have a clue? Has any of them actually read the novels? These movies make zillions not, heaven help us, because of these jackasses' decisions, cuts and, dare I say it, literary license, but because we, the fans, love the books to death and await to see them realized on film. Yes, Lord/Rings was a perfect reflection of the novels, but then there was but one genius at the helm, Peter Jackson. With HP everyone was a bloody piece of the pie; just how many directors must there be? And worst of all, why doesn't JK scream about what they are doing to her carefully crafted plot and characterizations? Has she no say whatsoever? Isn't she intelligent enough to suggest what can be spared and what genuine touches shouldn't be excised? SPEAK UP JK!!! I absolutely adore every word, every chapter, every word JK's written and I reread from every book until the next one is out. But the movies, gotta exercise lots of patience which, at my age, is running very, very thin!
OMG IM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! however it does suck how it dosn't follow the book well
JK would speak up if the changes were that significant. Calm down people. Ofcourse the swamp is funny in the book, but it does nothing to the story. Marietta being cut out is no great sacrifice either - think of the time they would have needed to introduce her and build up why she did it. Book 5 was a HUGE book and unless they were doing a television series of it, they couldn't help but leave out nearly all of the subplots, such as the prefects plot, the Weasley is our King plot, the Neville's parents plot etc. The prophecy being heard by everyone is the most significant change and I'm rather surprised at it but I'll hold my judgement until I've seen it before I can determine if it can change the overall outcome or not. Also I can't imagine why none of the others got hurt during the fight - it wouldn't have taken up much time to have a few cuts and bruises - with spells flying all about it would take less than 1 second to have someone being hit by one. Anyway, I think this is going to be a wonderful film.
i cant believe some of their changes. does the screen writer not read the books or something??? but w/ time constraints, makes sense (even though i dont agree w/ it. "gettysburg" was how long???) it still sounds promising though!! and if the movie is a let down... well we've got the new book to read right?
Hardly any Lupin at all? That is dissapointing.. I hope he still has the few scenes with Harry at the final battle at least.. that was such a perfect, heartbreaking scene to read. I don't expect anything between Tonks/Lupin of course, as nothing is apparent in the books until HBP. Speaking of which, I dearly hope that Alfonso comes back to direct Halfblood Prince. He handles the characters so beautifully, Cauron's world of Harry Potter best represented the books.. and brought in a whole new audience in its appeal. It just doesn't sound like OOTP has quite that magic touch, but I'm glad to hear it may be a step up from GOF.. too blockbuster molded. Thanks for the reviews guys.
aw man! this movie sounds crap. why aren't they sticking to the books even a little bit? it shouldn't be called harry potter and the order of the phoenix but barry potter and the order of the crow or something like that. its like a parody of the books. and why is draco so less? i absolutely love him in the movies as well as in the books. he's so cute and adorable and funny but hatable at the same time. and oh! tom - don't get me started on him. if he's not dominant in the 6th movie i'll literally jump from a window! :-( :-(
now im depressed.. how can cho be the one who tells on the DA ... how can lupin not be the book.why not move out the gwarp detail a bit and put a bit more lupin and tonks into it.. this is the problem when the director and the screen play writer doesnt read the book after the one they are making.. i dont think it will be mentioned at all.. 6th movie cant have their details when the whole place is falling apart..it was pretty stuffed in the 6th book.and too little of snape?i guess it wasnt too much about snape.. lets see.. fingers crozzed
Actually I didn't like Alfonso's handling of the movie at all - the characters were okay - but that was about it. IMHO the second movie was the best. Why? First: Richard Harris, the only true Dumbledore. Second: It truly captured the magic of Hogwarts and the Potterverse. The incredible amount of details... and not to mention my favourtie part of any HP movie yet: Dumbledore's office! The single most brilliant set ever to appear in a movie. Then there were the colors, the lenses and camera positions... it was the perfect HP movie. I could've cried when I saw the talking head in PoA.. And I did wail when I saw GoF - they made an action flick out of it. I'm still excited to see 5, but that prophecy-thing is bugging me. And of course noone else got hurt in the battle-scene at the ministry. IMO one of the crucial things about the ministry scene was Harry fearing he had stupidly led his friends to their deaths. His dread when he saw Hermiony get hit by a curse, and then that scary scene where Ron had been hit, was delirious and then summoned the brain... his friends getting injured was a major element of suspense and terror... and I fear that terror will get lost over an action-scene.
..and now that I've read the other two reviews... I'm even more disappointed. The relationship between Sirius and Bella isn't explained? Oh come on, a simple "...dear Cousin" would have sufficed in the battle. And no portrait of Sirius' mother? darn! But the one thing noone's mentioned, but which HAS TO BE IN... harry being the snake that attacks Arthur. His fear of being possessed. I know we get no St. Mungo's scenes.. but harry being the snake was pivotal! I will be very disappointed if that isn't in!
Even though some changes might be upsetting, I am definitely still looking forward to the movie! The book is simply way too long to fit into the movie so I definitely understand why they cut out certain things and changed certain things like Cho for example. Like Belsito said, it would take too much time to introduce Marietta and build her up, they had to change that in some way and they did. Other reviews I have read say that the movie is great. Carlos, I gut who saw the movie too, on The Leaky Cauldron site said in his review that HP will be less disappointed than they have been the last two movies because of all the changes made in those two. This is a good sign, imo, for all us fans out there. Now, I don't have a problem with any of the movies and what they have done to them so I think I will love this movie! It doesn't matter to me because I realize the books and movies are two seperate things and I appreciate each as seperate creative masterpieces.
I just can't wait! If my roommate isn't studying hard right now, I'd be screaming with excitement! (I'm screaming in my head though, lol. It's just so exciting!)
i am not reading it! i don't want lots of spoilers and by reading a few comments i already heard one about the prophecy. darn, well im keeping well away from reviews i'll wait 2 see it myself
Hmmm, I think the reviews are how I expected. I'm not surprised they changed (or simply left out) some details, they have done so in all of the movies. However, the one part that really bothers me is that all six kids heard the prophesy and that the wording isn't the same as in the books. I feel like if anything should have stayed the same, that is the number one detail. This could really change the next two movies, unless we just trust that none of them tells anyone. Also, I wish they had included that part about St. Mungo's and Neville, I think that unless you read the books, that part would be confusing. I also kinda wish they kept the movie dark, like it was in the book, even though it was a little depressing. Oh well, nothing's going to stop me from going to it at midnight on the release!
Prophecy: It had some really funny parts. It was a lot less serious than the book was. Well, so we can expect the Avadra Kedavra in HBP movie will be much more funny than in the book.
Ugh the films are always so disappointing :( It's missing such important stuff!
"For those who were hoping for some scenes with Lupin, you are in for a disappointment. Lupin doesn't get half the screen time he deserves and little is made of his relationship with Tonks." Well, that totally sucks. Lupin is a really loved character, and his relationship with Tonks is also greatly loved by fans all over. There isn't really any Lupin/Tonks scene in the book of OOTP as is, so I guess I can sorta kinda forgive that (although they are my favourite pairing), but cutting down Lupin's screen was a bad, bad move.
I've only read one review and already i'm disappointed. I realise there are time constraints but you'd think some things would matter to the whole character of who Harry is and that some thins would be important for the next two movies. Why do they do this?! Why not just make good adaptions first off instead of forcing people to make new ones in 10 or 15 years time. This is the time to do it, with all the hype and excitement.
NO!...MUST RESIST!
Come on, people, movies are movies and they do change and cut, we all know that they can't afford to have all the persons and lines of the book EVER. For me personnally - all these reviews make me wish even more to go to HP fan trip to see the premier in its origin land of birth!
A Michelle at Hpana wrote Hello hello all, I am Michelle, the one who sent in the rough third review. I have sent in more added comments to HPANA to post. I am posting here so I can clarify some facts. A) I did not see the film. I have a friend from my film class who did and she gave me all of her thoughts on the film which I have sent in now. She was also in the discussion group following the film so she was able to criticize the film directly to the producers. Her major complaints had to do with the choppy editing, the extreme deviations from the books, and her wish that some scenes be re-shot altogether because they were so off the mark of what really happens. B)Snape and the Occlumency lessons are in the film as we saw in the trailer. BUT, they are brief, they don't have much juice to them, and the Pensieve is not mentioned. Snape's Worst Memory is supposed to be something, according to my friend, which Snape plants in Harry's mind to make him feel bad or something, and there is some other complex element to it which makes the whole thing just rather ridiculous and off the mark entirely from the books. They're really playing with fire by changing this scene because of what may follow later in the last book/film! C) Lupin IS in the film. I asked my friend she said the Advance Guard/Order is only Mad-Eye, Lupin, Tonks, and Shacklebolt. There isn't really anyone else considered "in the Order" other than who's back at 12 GP. D) Umbridge's scenes are supposed to be really good, she thought. E) Overall, the film is okay in that it keeps with the same vibe and mood and tone as the previous two, which is good, but it deviates so strongly from the books, both by cutting things and entirely reworking scenarios. She thinks Prisoner of Azkaban is the best film and Goblet of Fire is second best. She hopes that Alfonso Cuaron comes back to the series because she feels the series is in need of someone redeeming it and that Alfonso Cuaron has been the only...
Not gonna read it! I dont wanna spoil my summer.
