Support JK in her eBay lawsuit
Support JK in her eBay lawsuit As we reported previously, JK Rowling is suing eBay for allowing illegal and fraudulent copies of her works to be sold on the auction site. Jo has managed to obtain an injunction which prevents eBay from listing illegal copies (namely e-versions of her books), which is binding until a May 23rd hearing.

Not only is Jo losing out from the auctioning of illegal books, but fans are being hoodwinked and wasting their money.

Marjorie, webmistress of the MuggleNet-affiliated collectors' advice site JKR's Army, contacted Neil Blair (Jo's lawyer) asking how fans can lend their support. Marjorie has set up a petition, which we strongly encourage you all to sign. We will soon have more ways you can help, but for now, visit this page for additional info.

Posted by puffhuffle Mar 9th 2007

i think it's funny because the person who signed 2nd has the same first name and last initial as me. i think its funny lol

Posted by Micino Mar 9th 2007

Of course I am signing! I'm getting my sibs to sign too. Although, in all fairness. people should really just know to be careful of the phonies on E-bay, and if they don't that is kind of sad.

Posted by Ithilwen Mar 9th 2007

I signed. And, contrary to what some people seem to believe, it's not just because it's J.K. Rowling. It's because she is one of the first people to really stand up to eBay. Yes, peole should be aware of what they buy and people shouldn't be selling fake merchandise. But eBay is up there for the benefit of others, and they are making money off sells. They should at least try to police their site better. The lawsuit, I think, is more about the principles behind it than about money.

Posted by phoenixlament Mar 9th 2007

signed it!

Posted by Crazy_for_Harry Mar 9th 2007

I signed twice today on 2 diff pcs! The total is up to 4135 and every time I refresh it theres a bunch more! And Warner Bros was the first to try to sue Ebay years ago warning them tot ake illegal Potter books down but they think they are above taking responsibility so now Rowling is rightfully doing something about it. This is her final installment of the series it would be bad if people got fake copies early and mucked it all up for her.

Posted by cool_varzz Mar 9th 2007

i am totally with Jo ......i think these issues are serious and u need to take an action against it.....i even signed the petition ......but people arent we over-doing stuff ?? i mean the petition and all that is fine but those Logos with the man shooting the eBay poster is just too much .....we should and we obviously will support Jo but common lets not sabotage eBay ....(btw im not an eBay user.....and dont POUNCE on me for this comment .....this is just MY opinion)

Posted by Ithilwen Mar 9th 2007

*pounce* j/k I won't pounce. ^^ I wouldn't worry about the poster. I think it's just a joke; I don't think they're trying to sabotage eBay. I think the reason eBay is such a target because it's ten times more difficult to hunt down the ones selling illegal merchandise. eBay could at least find the merch on their site and take it down. Peace outside :-)

Posted by fell4snape Mar 9th 2007

Posted by TwLb17 Mar 9th 2007

I just created a group linked to both the petition site and this site. All my support goes out to you Jo!

Posted by SnyperX Mar 9th 2007

This is a bad idea. It's impossible for ebay to monitor all their content, so this is basically saying "you must sacrifice money for being successful and providing a good service." The people who sell it can sell it in a number of other places, anyway.

Posted by fell4snape Mar 9th 2007

Yeah, isn't it great how it keeps going up and up constantly? 5368 now...that was like, 8 more in a minute...refresh again, oh, another one! XD This is fun. AND ANOTHER!! Ahhh. I'm still #2460, lol..and 4 more in the time it took to type that. 5374.

Posted by call_me_crazy Mar 9th 2007

#5,404. That's me :)

Posted by TwLb17 Mar 9th 2007

SnyperX...they're already successful. They should be at the point where they are more professional in order to maintain that success.

Posted by felixfelicis1234 Mar 9th 2007

Wow!! Jo has a HUGE fan base if this many people support her.

Posted by TwLb17 Mar 9th 2007

P.S. Sacrifice and breed further success. If they're smart, they'll play the right cards and make the "sacrifice".

Posted by TwLb17 Mar 9th 2007

My apologies. ***can breed further..."

I signed the petition, but I am not sure if this is going to make any difference. I think she is definitely going to win this one.

Posted by austeven4 Mar 9th 2007

The woman is a multi-millionaire.. the 3rd richest woman in the world.. what difference is a few thousand dollars going to do, really?

Posted by TwLb17 Mar 9th 2007

Clearly help her many charities she donates to and supports.

Posted by hermione28 Mar 9th 2007

I signed it!

Posted by Belsito Mar 10th 2007

"I like reading the books! BUT! I`m not any longer a fan! I don´t want to belong to a bunch of elfish nutters who should be called Kreacher!" Sorry to have to break it to you, siebensprung, but you yourself sound incredibly like Kreacher to me with your insults and quarelsome comments. I'm sure JK doesn't want her own army - she just wants us to speak up for ourselves. I use e-bay but would not trust it with any large purchases because it does not police the site properly. My rule of thumb is to only spend money there if I can afford to let it go to waste. It's a great concept for world-wide shopping and it would give me a greater incentive to use it if it were safer.

Posted by Regulus_Black Mar 10th 2007

ugh, some people are so horrible!!! why bother selling fakes - the real ones are SO much better!!! you're doing amazingly well with this JK - i would've exploded by now. am off to sign the petition. Go JK!!!! don't give up, girl.

Posted by NicoleM Mar 10th 2007

Does anyone realize that mugglenet has not wish Remus Lupin a happy Birthday?? Happy B-day Lupin!!!!!! xoxo

Posted by Meitar Mar 10th 2007

yep I notist it!Happy BDay Lupin!!!

Posted by Quiscalus Mar 10th 2007

Maybe the MuggleNet news isn't working or something...? Anyways, happy birthday Remus!! On a sorta related note, did anyone find it a bit weird that in book 6 F&G called Lupin by his first name? It's funny because he was their teacher three years back. I'm feeling really random right now, so just ignore my weirdness.

Posted by PotterManic Mar 10th 2007

I signed... but I don't see why anyone would buy or sell illegal copies of Harry Potter 'cause it's easily traced and they'd be fined something like €5000. If u ask me... it'd be easier just to go to a bookshop in town and buy it YOURSELF. That's what I do with all my books. eBay are being irresponsible allowing them to be sold. JK Rowling worked so hard to write HP and this is how eBay thanks her? SHAME!

Posted by scribbulus Mar 10th 2007

Well, the petition makes sense now. It appears that Ebay/Bazee beat JK’s lawyers’ petition with one of their OWN yesterday resulting in the Delhi High Court issuing notice to JK alleging that the author was misleading the media in a book-piracy case. So, they’re fighting a petition with a petition. Will this petition be really used in the way it shuld be? or just to get JK off of being accused of misleading media? Don't get kids involved...sheesh.

Posted by queen_akilah Mar 10th 2007

I've signed it, and I've got all my friends (even those who don't really like the books) to sign it too!

Posted by Padfoot_SiriusBlack Mar 10th 2007

Go Jo! You rock!

Posted by flipgirl Mar 10th 2007

I like the icon and I would like to sign the petition!! And Sticky and Siebensprung get over it. Sticky, if that person's not a fan shame on them but oh well. Sorry.

Posted by Glubad Mar 10th 2007

I signed, because I do feel it is important. However, even if this works, the pirates (is that the word?) will only find other ways to sell these illegal copies. WIth the whole world as their target, these people will continue to sell illegal copies. I dont know if this will hurt or help what is going on, but atleast it's an attempt at an important issue, albeit a remotely useless one.
