Follow-up: A letter from Jo
Yesterday, we posted a letter a MuggleNet visitor had received from JK Rowling. The letter contained numerous bits of information concerning rumors and the title of Book 7. JK Rowling's agent confirmed for us that the letter was genuine, but they requested that we take it down to maintain the privacy of its contents.
We thank Ryan for providing us with the letter, and we apologize that we could not release it.

no way!! awww man!
I SOOOOOOOOO wanted to see that letter! DANG. #2?
so... this is a news post why?
Erm but if its a letter she sent out, cant we just write to her and read it anyways. I read it so i don't mind.
Fortunately, I have it saved. However, there wasn't much info inside, was it? Only that she does have a title, which I thought she had since 1990...
Whos decision was it to remove the letter? Ryan? the agent? JKR?
Bizaare! Very... trange. I don't really understand. Does it contain info on book seven? And if so, how come this guy Ryan was allowed info on it, and we're not. Does he have some special priviledge or did he win some contest or something. Why can't we know about book seven too?!?!?!! Gah! I'm soooooo confuuuusseed!!!
i agree with kneazle cookie... um yay so once again mugglenet beats everyone else and knows the title to book 7....?
well why did she sent it if she didnd want anybody to know anything????
aw no way! top 10?
I read the letter here this morning but a part of it was blurred so that you couldn't read the whole thing!
Grrr . . . Maybe I'll write a letter and see if i can find out some info.
i want to see that letter soooo bad!!!oh well,i guess i wont.....:(
Um, the kid voluntarily posted his letter with portions of it blanked out. I don't get what it is exactly that is being protected? Any of the info that was revealed looked like something Rowling's would sooner or later divulge on her website. Even then she never gave the name of book 7 just that she had thought of something. *shrugs* Big whoop. I think the letter was taken down out of over sensitivity. Infact, more stink will be made about it now that it was removed rather than just leaving it up. My .02 knuts.
that is just ridiculous. then again maybe we are making a big deals out of nothing. all the same, jk obviously thought that ryan or whoever would share it...especially since he's associated with mugglenet.
I saw it this morning, there wasn't really much on it, she just said that she has a title for book 7 and that she wasn't laughing at Ryan's theories. They were: Dumbledore isn't dead, Snape is good, Harry is a horcrux and Neville will kill Voldemort.
ah...i was wondering about that
I suppose you aren't gonna share the title then?
Interesting, i hope she reveals the title soon though =P
Say what? I want to know! Can't believe I missed this. It's so not fair. What's the title?!?!?
Okay, I'm so happy that I'm not the only one who shares those theories, well some of them. I have this weird feeling that Snape is good. Harry as a horcrux is very interesting. Dumbledore....dead...I don't know. I'm more likely to think that Sirius isn't dead, just because the way he "died" was so, well... he basically disappeared behind a curtain. We didn't actually see him die or anything. I don't think Neville will kill Voldy because of the prophecy. They are interesting theories though. I still don't get why it's such a big deal about having the contents of the letter online though if nothing about book seven was revealed.
Did the letter contain the title? :(
yeah, DID the letter contain the title?
No the letter did not contain the title. It didn't say she had one either. It said she thinks she finally has one.
Aw, nuts. But I'm sort of glad--I want Jo to release it on her own terms.
Snape is good. I would bet everything I own on it. Harry's SCAR is a horcrux. Dumbledore either isn't dead, or was already going to die when Snape "killed" him. I dunno about Neville. Ryan probably told JK he had cancer and was going to die, or something. From what I understand, that's all that will get you a letter from Jo these days. She just doesn't have time.
The letter was nothing special really...I don't see the big deal. The blurred parts were something personal for the person who wrote the letter, nothing about Book 7...then she laughs at theories and says she might have a title for Book 7, so I really don't see the big deal here.
Good thing I read it when I did, then. It's pretty lame they made mugglenet take it down, it's not like we have a very good chance of having our own letters answered, what with the millions of letters JKR must get a day from fans. Oh well. I guess those of us who aren't fat/weren't bullied/don't have cancer/aids/the plague aren't special enough. Maybe if both my parents died in a car accident when I was really young that left a lightning bolt shaped scar on my head...
I bet the horcrux is something we'd least expect, like Hedwig or something. Or wouldn't that be funny if the horcrux was Malfoy. LOL Ah, the irony!
that's not fair really is it? Jo replies to special cases yeah, as if she'd have time to write to everyone who wrote to her! I would like book seven SOME time this century! It's selfish to expect an author like Jo to write back.
It gave me rush while it was up, book seven is getting closer!
What's not fair is forcing mugglenet to take the letter down (which they can't even legally do (but which mugglenet did out of respect), it's Ryan's property, not JKR's) when it's the next best thing we have to having a letter of our own answered.
Actually, from what I understand, Jo tries to write to everyone, not just 'special cases' In fact, a scan of the letter she sent me is on the JK Rowling page, "Letters" section--she's extremely gracious and generous. The situation with Ryan's letter this morning is a very rare case, indeed, but respect and privacy is essential.
THat stinks that it had to be taken down, but it is really strange. Why did Ryan get the info, but can't share it with anyone. It just doesn't make a whole lot of since to me. Maybe Jo will put something about it on her website soon.
AWWWWWWWWWWWW. Dear Mugglenet News Reporter, can I perform a switching spell with you? ;-)
ah, well. i just hope the title is up on her site sometime soon. Maybe on July 31 she'll tell us? LOL @ reflir
I think that something is up. Why would she release the title to just one person knowing that he was in contact with mugglenet and would most likely release it. I mean she has never been one to give out information about the books before they were released any other time so why now? Why would she decided all of the sudden to make time to reveal her secrets about the book ( that she has been keeping for a long time ) to a reader. Why him, she has to get millions of letters. I think that something is up with this...it all sounds a bit odd. However, I think we should just wait for her to release the information on her own terms. Personally I would like to her it from her anyway. Besides if she tells us then we will know for sure it's true.
She didn't tell him the title. All she said is that she thinks she has one because it could be called anything.
He didn't get OMG SUPER SPESHUL INFORMATION; he got a personal letter. Personal to him. Perhaps Jo didn't expect him to share it, perhaps she did, the thing is... We don't know the circumstances. Jo allows us a lot of leeway (fanfiction, for example), perhaps we should just trust her for once. She has her reasons probably. And he didn't get the title, because Jo said she wasn't certain yet. She wouldn't give out the title in a letter, anyway. I can't quite believe the amount of, "OMFG What's so special about him?" going on here, though. Not cool, guys. It was nice of him to share it with us, in the very least.
Hey you dont have to get so touchy about it. I was only saying that we most likely are getting worked up for no reason. I just read the letter right after I wrote my last comment and no he did not get information on the seventh book which I knew he probably would not get anyway because like I previously stated she has never gived out early information before and she will get it when she is ready. Yes it was nice of him to share it but he must have known rumors would start about it once he did which is why i think it was taken down. Well I think we should all just be happy we got to see it and just be patient for information on the 7th book.
wow so many posts I want to respond to here... First Horcruxes--remember the locket that Kreacher had either in his sleeping area or had taken out of the garbage? I think that's the one that was a horcrux for Voldemort maybe sirius' younger brother took it before he was killed and that's how it ended up back in the house... Second -- Snape--I think he is going to turn out good--could Snape be a horcrux of dumbledore? Third--Dumbledore not dead--maybe he is or maybe he isnt--but maybe there is going to be a way for him to still talk with harry et al.--remember that all the former hogwarts headmasters have their pics in the headmaster's office...who's to say he cant help harry that way...
Because that Jo Rowling have to right with private for letter. So, whatever, we are so sorry. I promise that I won't tell them. I won't copy anymore. I understand that Jo Rowling was serious and private. Jo and agency, I sorry that we accident happen, because we didn't know that. That is a reason why I explain to them and Ryan, that we didn't know it is allow or not. So, first make sure they approve it or not approve. That is why the rule is need to check if Jo Rowling accept or not on Mugglenet.com for us to set up information report. All officer mugglenet must check and ask for agency or Jo Rowling if they accept it or not. Then we will understand. It is not my job and Mugglenet staff job. I hope you learning.
Thanks real much for the link, katiebell. And indeed, there's nothing quite special about the letter. I got suspicious about the news from the start, cause I remember Jo say somewhere that she's afraid of revealing the title because it might jinx the book she's writing. I'm sure we'll know it only when she's finished. Not before winter this year, definitely.
it's sooooo hard to wait....I think I am going to have to read the books again to hold myself over...my cousin read them backwards from 6th to 1st...maybe that will be fun...
Um, I think everyone should just take a step back and relax. JKR did not reveal the title to ANYONE, only that she thinks she finally has one because it could have been called many thing. JKR gets so many letters, she cannot respond to them all, and as someone already said, I'd rather have her writing book 7 then writing to all of us. Finally, if we can all be patient, it was the last week of may the year after OOTP was released when we got the title "Half-Blood Prince", so I'm sure we're close to getting the title to book 7, especially if she does have one now.
It's kind of like Umbridge in the fifth book. If it's band there must be something important there we need to read. Personaly I think it's inapropriate to post personal letters writen to you by Jo. It was written to you not the whole HP comunity! Jo will share it to all of us if she wants to.
I barely heard about the letter today at Digital Spy and I clicked here right away. I really wanted to see the letter if it was true. I really want to know the title. Someone should tell the Digital Spy to update their site and tell them the letter has been taken down here.
damn ..... that means I'm chinese I said that if that letter is real then I'm chinese when I first saw it ... Oh wel ....
I like her comment after the blurred bit. "You have shown extraordinary strength of character to pull through these dark days." Yep, cancer.
harrypottergirl0106, Oh god, I wasn't specifically talking to you! I was just meaning that if you were the guy who got the letter, and you just wanted to share it with people who'd appreciate it, and people started saying all this stuff about how you didn't deserve a letter from Jo, wouldn't you be a bit upset? I didn't mean it as an attack. I was just... worried, I suppose. Sorry *blushes*
