Follow-up: A letter from Jo
Yesterday, we posted a letter a MuggleNet visitor had received from JK Rowling. The letter contained numerous bits of information concerning rumors and the title of Book 7. JK Rowling's agent confirmed for us that the letter was genuine, but they requested that we take it down to maintain the privacy of its contents.

We thank Ryan for providing us with the letter, and we apologize that we could not release it.

i agree dusty i mean ive been reading eragon eldest the keys to the kingdom i like more stuff than just harry potter i tink being obsessed with something so small is wee bit unhealthy and frankly i could care lesss about this stupid letter.

Posted by Natalie May 18th 2006

Aww. And here I was, looking forward to reading it. :( Ah, well. If J.K. wanted to ask Mugglenet not to release it, then I guess they must have a good reason for doing so.

Posted by margoooo May 18th 2006

The letter itself is personal. She didn't anticipate it being put up for public viewing. The only reason I'm even debating this is because I'm horribly bored at the moment.

Posted by whiterice May 18th 2006

dudes, spoilers used to be what mugglenet was about. half these kids probably didnt even start up till after poa hit the theatres- sad... if anyone did manage to copy/ paste or just remembers what was said post plz (or repost, im too lazy to look through all 200 comments)

Posted by margoooo May 19th 2006

There weren't any spoilers in the letter at all. Read the last 200 posts, you'll see it written about 50 times.

Posted by DameDesDenkariums May 19th 2006

I really don´t understand why you guys proclaim such a message, making us people courios about the letter and then write: sorry we cannot publish it or tell you. That´s too weird. Next time you guys from mugglenet will not tell us something be quiet instead.

Posted by Puffskein May 19th 2006

Oh, crum! I missed the letter when it was on MN. But it's really hard to believe that Jo, who has been so taciturn about the titile, would reveal it to a stranger who wrote to her as a fan. I guess if I had been able to really read the letter, I would be able to understand better. But Jo loves to tease us.She no doubt knew the letter would be posted. Is this her way of letting us in on some of her hitherto unknown, ferociously gurarded thoughts?

Posted by MissKaye May 19th 2006

she didnt reveal the title. for goodness sakes people. Ryan wrote to her with some theories he had and w/e he wrote her about. ALL the letter contained was that she wasnt laughin about his theories meaning maybe that they wouldn't be that absurd to say no to everyone of them & that she finally thinks she knows the title of book 7 but she also said that she couldnt tell and in ()'s says you didnt expect it did you? So there. thats all the letter contained everyone who keeps saying that they know the title is dumb. i saw the letter when it was posted yesterday and ive commented before if anyone wants to look all through the comments before this one. You can also find many other people who have said the same thing and have seen the letter. the letter was taken out because of privacy reasons. it was nice of him to even share the letter in the 1st place. nothings spoiled b/c Jo isnt gonna spoil anything she never has and she never will as long as she keeps writing. Now everyone can just take a chill pill and relax. No one missed anything by not reading the letter.

Posted by hogwartsprincess May 19th 2006

Oh no that's so unfair. My friend didn't get to see it. I wish i'd saved it now but at least i got to read it. What i don't understand is that if she didn't want to release the information in the letter then why would she write it in a letter to a fan because if you're a fan and you find out some cool information about book 7 or the next movie then you want other fans to know because you can't contain your excitement.

Posted by fairyjude May 19th 2006

Can anyone tell me what it said?

Posted by dizzysaff May 19th 2006

Awww not fair i want to know about book seven. oh well it will be out in another year or so!

Posted by TDeSou May 19th 2006

NOOOOOO!!!!! I was gonna look at the letter to see any information like right now! But it's gone! NO!!!!!!

Posted by MissKaye May 19th 2006

No i really think you should emphasize that there isnt anything important! cuz there wasnt so its good its repeating itself. Jo thinks she has the title of book 7. Ryans theories aren't laughable. THE END!

Posted by Freddie_Phoenix May 19th 2006

Wow, you guys actually made me register just so I could answer this. I just get sooo pissed at dumb people... Peeps, read the comments. Scan them. It has been stated, not once, not twice, but at least TEN TIMES what the letter was about. Yet you seem to simply wait about ten comments and then ask for the contents again, as if you jumped directly from the news post to the comments page without even looking at the rest. The worst example: MissKaye posted the contents of the letter (again), and then, TWO POSTS DOWN, fairyjude posts "Can anyone tell me what it said?". Please... is it so difficult to read the other comments? Someone said "I'm too lazy to read through them". Well... I won't answer that. I read it when it was posted. I'm going to summarize what it said. After this, PLEASE don't ask "what was in that letter omg lolol!!!" because I might just explode with frustration. Here you go: 1. Jo says hi. 2. Jo congratulates Ryan for being able to finish his exams despite the trouble he was going through. 3. Blurred part (personal stuff about Ryan's life - really, people, that's none of our business). 4. Jo says that when it comes to Ryan's theories, she's "certainly not laughing". This means that she, as always, doesn't shoot anything down to allow for further speculating. 5. Jo says that she thinks that she's finally come up with a good title for book 7 and then EXPLICITLY TELLS RYAN that she won't tell him what it is and that she hopes he didn't expect her to. 6. Jo says that she loves the letter so much that she's going to use the writing paper Ryan evidently enclosed, and she tells him that it will be used to write a part of book 7. 7. Jo says bye-bye. There you have it. Now PLEASE don't ask for the contents again. Nothing was revealed. Nothing was said. The title for book 7 was NOT stated. Really, people... I love HP as much as everyone, but isn't there something else you can obsess about?

Posted by Cady May 19th 2006

Good for Jo! I saw the letter in the breif time it was up, and no, there were no spoilers in it. I already thought very highly of Jo before I heard about the letter, because of the humanitarian work she does and having been a teacher. When I heard about the letter, I touched by her taking a moment to care about someone who is a virtual stranger. I'm glad Ryan got the letter. Beyond glad thrilled. What sickened me was that it was published. That was meant to be a private communication between him and Jo. I really hope Jo doesn't get inundated with letters from people who are now all expecting personal responses. And I really hope Jo isn't thinking twice about sending those out. Cause frankly, I think the world could use a lot more people like Jo. It really sucks that she couldn't trust her fans to keep a private moment private.

Posted by MissKaye May 19th 2006

Freddie_Phoenix THANK YOU! i might just say i love you for that amazing comment. ive been built up with fustration as well. itz not even a big deal. but whatever lol you certainly made me laugh with your comment. thanks :)

Posted by ronwheeezley May 19th 2006

"Freddie_Phoenix THANK YOU!" i 2nd ur statement..

Posted by margoooo May 19th 2006

YAY MissKaye, Freddie_Phoenix, and Cady! Geez I hope people read your comments... I still can't understand how a person can write "Plz, somebody tell me what was in it!! Oh no, I missed it! I'll never know about book 7, it's so unfair." WOW. 220 comments and nothing. They can write, but can they read?

Posted by Kadaj May 19th 2006

Since this new posting system has been introduced the number of idiotic people commenting has increased by ten folds. GROW UP! and read all the comments before posting! Stop acting like a bunch of stupid ten year olds!

Posted by MissKaye May 19th 2006

Yep i definately agree Kadaj. I think people are starting to get it now. Unfortunatley it took over 200 comments to do so but hey, you cant teach an old dog new tricks. I think we can all finally lay this whole thing to rest now. *knocks on wood*

Posted by MissKaye May 19th 2006

Btw thanks to those who agree with us :] like margoooo, kadaj & many others. its nice to have those who are supportive & aren't freaking out about something such as a letter that doesnt contain any valuable information. anyways im going to bed haha. hopefully everyone can just READ from now on.

Posted by dumbles May 19th 2006

a few things to outline: 1) ryan is a really nice fellow muggleneter, he was nice to share this letter with us and it wasn't his choice to take it down 2) no spoiler info was given away in the letter 3) READ

Posted by LupinsGoddaughter May 19th 2006

THAT JUST SUCKS!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!

Posted by dinky_diddy_kins May 19th 2006

First off Freddie_Phoenix great post I could not agree more. Secondly can anyone tell me what the letter said?

Posted by Ms_S_Snape May 19th 2006

Hahaha! Good one dinky_diddy_kins!

Posted by MissKaye May 19th 2006

are you serious?! what Freddie_Phoenix in his numbered bullets is what the letter said & if you scan through all 200 + comments youll also see it repeated about 50 + times. if you read that you read what the letter said. again nothing important. ill sum it up in a sentence (the part that would seem most important to everyone else) OK. So JO wasnt laughing at some of ryans theories (which are like HP is a horcrux, RAB is Regulus Black, HP will destroy all the horcrux but will be faced with the situation when he finds out he himself is one. Voldy will kill HP thinking that he's one Neville will come & finish the job) NOTE: RYANS THEORIES NOT JO's. Anyways she didnt laugh at them like i said meaning that they're pretty good theories not saying anyone if them was right. And as for book 7. she simply said that she THINKS she FINALLY has the title of book 7. and said in ()'s something like (you didnt expect me to tell you right?!) THATS ALL it said nothing big the reason why it was taken down was b/c jo or her agent which ever one wanted their privacy & probably not all this controversy on such a innocent simple letter to a fan. ok well that was more than a sentence but hopefully everyone can get it now. i officially give up. if no one wants to read the comments then fine lol

Posted by MissKaye May 19th 2006

wow um nvm lmao sorry dinky_diddy_kins i actually read over your small sentence & i guess i said it with sarcasm & yea you prob intended it to be that way soooo i apologize for my useless paragraph. itz just some of us have been fustrated with the amount of people who have gone illeterate. haha oh well. serves me right but not re-reading it. i apologize once again.

Posted by here_u_go May 19th 2006

Sorry, Mugglenet, but i THINK PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO SEE THIS. Plus its not like its saying anything we havent thought of yet. But, to settle pepoles minds this is all that this is about: From Ryan: Harry is a Horcrux. RAB is Regulus Black. Dumbledore is not dead. Snape is good. Harry will succeed in destroying the remaining horcruxes but will be faced with a dilemma when he learns that he himself is one. Harry will be killed by Voldermort who will believe he has won, but then Neville Longbottom will step forward and finish the Dark Lord off once and for all. Jo's response: As for your theories, I'm certainly not laughing. And for a title to book 7? Book seven: can't tell you the title (you didn't really expect it, did you?!) but I think I've finally got one. It could have been called a lot of things, you see. Her response to his theories doesn't necessarily mean he's on the mark, but he may be a bit close. Update: MuggleNet have confirmed the authenticity of the letter. However, they were asked to remove it, due to the private nature of the content.

Posted by Susi May 19th 2006

fleur1510, thank you so much for posting the link to Jo's letter!!!

Posted by Kadaj May 19th 2006

I cannot belive this! people are still asking what was in the letter without reading through the comments? Mugglenet, please shut down this message board. Then people wil be forced to read through the posts.

Posted by texasprincess815 May 19th 2006

What a blessing that we have a writer that can write one of the most popular books out there today and still find time to answer her readers with a personal letter!! JKR was right to ask that you take it down tho. :) But she really didn't reveal anything in that letter, anyway. --Alicia

Posted by Dusty_d69 May 19th 2006

I can't believe some people. *smacks head on desk* Small wonder nobody has much hope for mankind.

Posted by margoooo May 19th 2006

Ryan and JKR are the only ones who actually have the "right" to see it as they are the only ones involved... you, as the random fan, do not have that right. You are not involved in the letter.

Posted by marsisbrighttonight May 19th 2006

"First off Freddie_Phoenix great post I could not agree more. Secondly can anyone tell me what the letter said?" LOL dinky_diddy_kins at first i didnt get it and i was like omg ur so stupid...then im like oh wait...lol

Posted by marsisbrighttonight May 19th 2006

er...kadaj no1 has asked what it said since you last posted...if ur talking about what dinky_diddy_kins said, you didnt read it throughly-he was being sarcastic. i agree that even though it was nice of ryan to send it to mugglenet, the letter was private and was only between him and jo.

Posted by Ms_S_Snape May 19th 2006

If it is Ryan's letter shouldn't it be Ryan's to do with what he wished? If he wished to send it to Mugglenet why did agents or whoever say he couldn't? That is all I am wondering about.

Posted by thechunkasaurus May 19th 2006

I bet the letter was a Horcrux.

Posted by appleannie May 19th 2006

I'd like to give a SHOUT OUT to all the fantastic people who have reminded the fools out there that this is a MESSAGE BOARD!!!!! The whole point in having this is so people can READ what everyone else is saying. Holy Cow - reading - what a concept, seeing as the reason we have this website in the first place is because of a series of books. The insanity that we actually read a comment from time to time would be inconcievable to somebody too dimwhitted to read 3 comments then freak out and post their comments! A special THANKS is in order for MissKaye and Freddie_Phoenix for helping the rest of us get our point across to all the nimcumpoops out there!

Posted by The_Muffin_Girl May 19th 2006

uhh... so why did this guy get a letter from jkr? have we established why yet? >too lazy to read past the first 50 posts< i wanna letter from her... >cries< but if it means i have to get a terminal illness... i guess i can live without a letter. but still... if it was just stuff about how she thinks she has a title and so on... why is it so "sensitive"? it can't be just because it's private, since the guy volunteered it to mn... (although maybe jkr isn't too happy about him sharing the private letter) and yes, i know 200 or so people have already said exactly the same thing, but... >shrug< i feel like being repetitive. i'm confused.

Posted by drstevo May 19th 2006

The letter contained numerous bits of information concerning rumors and the title of Book 7. THIS is misleading . . . the letter contained only a reference that JKR may have arrived at a title (certainly the TITLE was NOT revealed)

Posted by Ryuji35 May 19th 2006

Ah ha!!! I have read the letter before it was removed!

Posted by potterlovver814 May 20th 2006

Hm. It's a bummer that we can't read the letter. But it sounds sort of fishy, no? I mean, if JK Rowling actually wrote that letter herself, then why would her agent ask for it not to be posted? >.< Weird. Because if JK believes in whatever she wrote and it wasn't anything personal, then there shouldn't be a problem if the owner of the letter gave permission to MuggleNet to post it. But I'm no good at this legal stuff. *shrug*

Posted by lisa May 20th 2006

Okay, everyone who is freaking out right now should just read someone's comment that explains everything the letter said!!! (Like Eimear's post.) And as for Neville stepping in to defeat Voldemort... Um, no? I very highly doubt that was one of the 'non-laughable' theories Rowling was talking about. The only one I can think of that she wouldn't laugh at is RAB being Regulus Black and Snape being innocent. I also have a theory that Sirius is still alive ;D but unfortunately I believe Dumbledore is gone... :'( even though I still think it was way out of his character for him to die like that.

Posted by Griselda May 21st 2006

She was just saying that she wasn't laughing at his theories and this guy goes ahead and posts the letter together with his theories. Of course Jo doesn't want it used that way. Now she's going to be even more careful with every comment she makes.

Posted by biatzie2102 May 21st 2006

who has read the letter? what's the title of book 7?!?!?!

Posted by mugglecast_fan May 21st 2006

Ryan wrote about his success with weight loss, so maybe there was something personal in there that Jo didnt think the masses should be seeing. Like would you like it if the whole world knew "oh when i was 15 i weighed 199 pounds".. no! So i think it was more that than info about the book. Just like Jo doesnt like newspapers printing out pictures of her kids, she probably doesnt want the web telling stories of her life. Plus, newspaper people are always looking on pages like MN.com and JKR.com to see if they can get anything juicy on her, even if we think its innocent stuff. It's definitly a privacy thing.>>>> For evryone who didnt read it all it said was that she thinks she has a title, and that work is going well, etc. Nothing outlandishly revealing.

Posted by ronny713 May 21st 2006

Ugh I always miss these things!

Posted by Chesley May 22nd 2006

Thanks to everyone who said what was in the letter. I'm glad I didn't miss anything too big.
