American 'Deathly Hallows' 784 pages!
American 'Deathly Hallows' 784 pages! Scholastic announced today that the US edition of Deathly Hallows will contain 784 pages, making it the second longest book in the series behind OOTP!

Since the US versions of the books are published in a larger font and contain chapter pictures, this should mean the UK version will be around 700 pages long.

The US version of the book will have an initial print-run of 12 million, and the publisher has also revealed that each of these copies "will be printed on paper that contains a minimum of 30% post-consumer waste (pcw) fiber."

The President of Scholastic Trade Publishing and Book Fairs said, "Scholastic worked hard with our suppliers and the Rainforest Alliance to secure this extraordinary amount of recycled and FSC certified paper for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. As a company with an ongoing commitment to protecting the environment for this generation and generations to come, we believe producing this book and our future reprints of Harry Potter books with a minimum of 30% pcw recycled paper is an important publishing decision."

Yipee! Even though I already knew this, I'm still happy! I'm glad it's longer than GoF. Didn't expect it to be longer than OoTP, so this is really good!

Posted by sectumsempra99 Mar 20th 2007

YAYYYY! That's awesome!

Posted by muggleatuniv Mar 20th 2007

I'm glad mugglenet finally got the memo - Also, I'm excited that the publishers are so concerned with environmental awareness. Too many people don't care how horrible wasting paper is.

Posted by harryfreak_org Mar 20th 2007

omg...bring out the uk size soon!!!! yay... not long now

Posted by writergurl013 Mar 20th 2007

hm...I wanted it to be longer than OotP. I guess this will do, as the 2nd longest book. can't wait till July 21!

Posted by Ithilwen Mar 20th 2007

I just saw this on facebook...sweetness :-)

Posted by RyAn2006 Mar 20th 2007

eventually MN post it!! lol-still wicked news isnt it?! Indeed I want Bloomsbury to confirm UK size...i predict about the 700-730 mark hopefully!! An update from Jo now is all I want to see :)

Posted by mandie2010 Mar 20th 2007

I wanted to be like a thousand pages but 784 will do.

Posted by phoenixfire1213 Mar 20th 2007

WHOO!!! Although I was hoping for one longer than OotP, I'll settle for this, I just want it now!!! Hopefully a book cover soon?

Posted by Myalah Mar 20th 2007

YAY!...Hazzah!...woot!... ok...that's my expression of happines...lol...ish :)

Posted by ninja58 Mar 20th 2007

YEAH!!! JKR said that OOTP was gonna be the longest, so I'm pretty happy with somthing longer than GoF. WOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Can't wait!!!!!!

Posted by Doxybiter_DH_ Mar 20th 2007

Finally! I knew this for hours, but still ... second longest in the series is good enough for me!

Posted by nineandthreequarters Mar 20th 2007

Yikes! Well, that's a relief- long is good, because Jo's got a lot of loose ends to tie up. As for recycled paper, the Scholastic folks should come clean out my blue bin- I've got enough in there for at least 3 copies of Deathly Hallows. BTW- anyone remember the page count from OotP?

Posted by otto Mar 20th 2007

Coolio, 784 more pages of Potter!

Posted by Quiscalus Mar 20th 2007

Nineandthreequarters, it was around 876 pages, US edition.

Posted by lilbunny16 Mar 20th 2007

784 pages isn't too bad. I wanted it to be longer, but I'm happy with this page count. :)

Posted by Clean0002 Mar 20th 2007

This is great news! It will be a nice long book! And it is great that they are enviornmentally friendly!

Posted by MWPP Mar 20th 2007

that is scary

Posted by nightsstar Mar 20th 2007

wooo news!

Posted by domp Mar 20th 2007

Heck YES! 784 pages of Harry Potter Goodness! sweet.

Posted by Shaun05 Mar 20th 2007

I'm estimating that the British version will be 740 pages. The US version of HBP was 652 pages and the UK version was 608 pages with a difference of 40 pages. But looks good Hopefully we'll get a cover next.

Posted by Jessically Mar 20th 2007

ZOMG, Bring on the crazy theories!!! I'm a little sad, beacuse now I can go home and see how big exactly how big one of the biggest events in my life so far will be, it's actually concrete now, wow, I wonder how much the prices will change now

Posted by Mariami Mar 20th 2007

Oh, wow. That's gonna be one long read. Gaaah, I'm getting the book 2 weeks later than the official release (stupid shipping) but I'm still so excited.

Posted by buckbeak7 Mar 20th 2007

OMG! I am so psyched! I hoped it would be close to OOTP's length! YAY!

Posted by mastermike Mar 20th 2007

The length sounds about right to me. If the book had ballooned to a much larger size than this, either Jo or her editors wouldn't have been doing their job right. There has been so much of the story has been set up in the previous books - it needn't be gargantuan in length. If it were, something would have gone horribly wrong. I have the feeling all of you who want a thousand-pager are probably just desperately looking for some way for the series not to be over ;-) Just pace yourselves when you come to read it.

Posted by Catz95 Mar 20th 2007

So if I read a chapter a day, that will take...lets say the chapters are 20 pages long... that would make 32 chapters... mmm... a month hehe. But thats just wishful thinking. XD.

Posted by iBrakeforSnidgets Mar 20th 2007

Yeeeeeeeeees!!!!!!!! 784 pages!!! I was hoping for over 1000 pages but I didn't think that it would be even close to that. 2nd longest book, that'll work for me!!! =)

Posted by SirRobin Mar 20th 2007

That sounds like a wonderful length. It's great that there's some real HP news now, rather than rumors, and it's great to have a new poll too! Bravo!

Posted by Shawn Mar 20th 2007

I'm pleased with 784 pages. As long as she tied all the loose ends well, I will be happy. Now I want some more info from Jo!

Posted by felixfelicis1234 Mar 20th 2007

oh my fudge god...all my dreams have come true

Posted by yellowhippo Mar 20th 2007

i am so glad it's not too short...ideally, it' be infinity pages, but 784 is good too ;)

Posted by RyAn2006 Mar 20th 2007

Its quite sad to know people are complaining already about the length. Jo obviously feels she has written the best ending she could have within these pages and we should be gratful shes done that! She also says its her favourite. Remember its quality not quantity. People should be delighted theres even 784 pages to this book! Also Jo has said that HBP and DH are two parts of one book-thats one hell of a big book when you put them both together! Please stop complaining and be happy we've got some news!!

Posted by mrs_black Mar 20th 2007

OMG!!! yay! i cnt wait! its too short tho! i want it to last forever!!! oh wait... all hope is not lost!!! the UK books are longer... oh darn theyre shorter than the US ones cus theyre in smaller print wiv no pics! darn. plz bring out the uk size soon!

Posted by Susan14 Mar 20th 2007

Yay! Finally updated. >_> I love the gratefulness of some people here. 'What? Only 784 pages?!? That's not enough!!!11'. Lol, just be happy with knowing the number and the big news!

Posted by ElectricWitch21 Mar 20th 2007

yayayay!!! thats amazing!! =)

Posted by m_bml Mar 20th 2007

Uh...I'm so excited..good news!! I was also hoping for longer but this is great too... Can't wait...122 days to go!!! Mare, ja se isto nadan da hrvatska verzija nece bar ic ispod 700, jer su sve ostale bile krace...

Posted by harryfreak_org Mar 20th 2007

Posted by kash Mar 20th 2007

you know what i want to see ... THE COVER.. IM DYINGGGG TO SEE THE COVER.. BOTH UK AND AMERICAN VERSION..

Posted by severus69 Mar 20th 2007

The longer the better

Posted by fanaticallyobsessed Mar 20th 2007

IM TOOOOOOOOO HAPPY............I JUST SAW PoA DVD.....and I LOG ON TO MNET AND SEE THIS!!! ALTHO M GNNA BUY THE UK VERSION....IF IT'S 700 PAGES LONG...STILL LONGER THAN ALL OTHERS EXCEPT OoTP....ITS AMAAZINGG!!!! I READ HALF-BLOOD PRINCE ...BY STAYING AWAKE FOR A WHOLE NIGHT ONLY READING IT...IF IT'S LONGER...THEN WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! I LOVE MAGIC!

Posted by mastermike Mar 20th 2007

RyAn2006, I don't think it's true "complaining" as such, it's just that bittersweet sense that it'll all finally be over after those 784 pages. The mark of a true fan.

Posted by Shaun05 Mar 20th 2007

People want it to be longer so they don't have to see the series end. That's my opinion anyway. I knew it would be more than HBP but I didn't know if it'd be more than OotP. For the US then, that adds up to ... 4042 pages for the seven books. Good... I'd say...

Posted by RyAn2006 Mar 20th 2007

"The mark of a true fan." i find that quite insulting. But i dont intend to let stupid little comments spoil my excitment. By the way those asking why its bigger-ive been talking to a contact of mine at Bloomsbury-who of course refused to even give a clue as to UK page count-but she did say the american one is longer as they have illustrations, use different paper, have different layout etc.
