American 'Deathly Hallows' 784 pages!
Scholastic announced today that the US edition of Deathly Hallows will contain 784 pages, making it the second longest book in the series behind OOTP!Since the US versions of the books are published in a larger font and contain chapter pictures, this should mean the UK version will be around 700 pages long.
The US version of the book will have an initial print-run of 12 million, and the publisher has also revealed that each of these copies "will be printed on paper that contains a minimum of 30% post-consumer waste (pcw) fiber."
The President of Scholastic Trade Publishing and Book Fairs said, "Scholastic worked hard with our suppliers and the Rainforest Alliance to secure this extraordinary amount of recycled and FSC certified paper for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. As a company with an ongoing commitment to protecting the environment for this generation and generations to come, we believe producing this book and our future reprints of Harry Potter books with a minimum of 30% pcw recycled paper is an important publishing decision."

eeee! this is exciting.....but i'm so sad the series is going to end soon :( i see they got a new poll.... I can't wait until the midnight release! I'm probably goign to stay up reading after I finally get the book.
It should be longer in my opinion! I mean really! There are soooooooooooooooooooooo many loose ends she has to tie and with 784 pages...i wonder how close she came to not getting them tied...I wanted it to be WAY longer than OOTP but whatever...I'm just glad we have DH period!!!!
yessss i was right. i knew it was going to be longer than hbp and gof. and seriously just be happy the book is on its way... stop saying 784 pages isnt enough... its like 132 pages longer than hbp and is the longest book besides order of the phoenix. just be grateful. cant wait! that length seems perfect.
Why would the bother making a big deal about conserving paper when the american version is 80 something pages long just for larger font and some pretty pictures. I refuse to listen to anybody trying to pull off being environmentally friendly with so much wasted paper. That means that roughly, per 1 million books sold, 125 000 books could have been made from the wasted paper. all rants aside, im really happy that its 700 pages lol
On COSforums guess the #of pages contest, I was off by two pages for the U.S. Ed! I think that 784 is good enough (I knew we weren't going to get something more than 900 pages. But still, I hope it feels long enough when we get it. HBP felt like it could of had more....like Harry and Ginny's walk around the lake.
That's fantastic! It sounds just right to me... (Goldy Locks and the three bears... baby bears were "just right") lol. nevermind. The paper I think is really an awesome thing, not to sound like a tree hugger, but to me it makes it more special.
yessssssssssssssss. i love page counts. now i have to get back to moby dick. there's a waste of paper if there ever was one.
I'm disappointed.
Super, SUPER happy! I'm so relieved that it's not shorter than that! Ohhh, I can almost feel it in my hands! Ohhhh, I can't stop grinning!
ROCK ON!!!!!!!!! this is sooo exciting. order of the phoenix was my favorite book and probably just because of the size so im soo glad this one is almost at big. im so stoked for this book to come out
Wow, that's all I can say, this is going to be a busy summer (winter for me XP)
does this mean they are done editing? which would mean that the illustrators will recieve a copy soon, which means its only a matter of time before we get cover art!
I just wish I don't die before the book comes out.
THATS AWESOME!! I was a bit dissapointed to tel the truth when I heard it was only 600 or so pages, but this is fantastic news, JUST AFTER I PREORDERED MY COPY TODAY! Phewww, two reliefs.
I just finished re reading the 5th and 6th book and definitly dont think 784 is enough to answer all the many questions she left us with. Side note: i read the last page of book 6 just now, closed it, pulled up mugglenet and was forced to fight back an extreme urge to cry over the fact that its actually the last book.....what do i have to look foreward too in life. Maybe we do need that helpline. Also my friend was talking about something she bought like the 12 things to consider while reading harry potter she said it says things that JK said like if i mention something more than once its important (etc.). Does anyone know if this actually exists and if so, what are the 12 rules or whatever you want to call them. Thanks ahead of time...... OH and yay for the paper saving....all for the enviro change. Harry Potter is so amazing
Perfect! I was afraid DH would only be around 500 pages so I'm happy. And a bit sad because it's the last but I so look forward to this summer.
Perfect!!! This will be the longest book in the series, wohooo :) exactly what I wanted. Order of phoenix was 766p, right? And half-blood prince 607? 784 pages seem like a good number to me, of course, I wouldn´t mind if it were longer but it´s not that short ;).
Yaaay, a long book :-) I never expected it to be longer than ootp. I think I remember jkr saying at some point that it wouldn't be, so I'm not disappointed.
Guess what? i just signed up and this is my first comment EVER!! (even though i've been going on mugglenet for about a year). Anyways i'm really happy with this length, though i still don't know how JK could fit it in the answers to all our questions in under 1000! Hmmm.. thats a little extreme i know, but i'd love it to last that long. Omg, as more and more details come out i''m starting to panic, i wish time would slow down!!!
THIS IS TOTALLY OFF TOPIC BUT MUGGLENET IS SHUTTING DOWN AND JK ROWLING'S HOUSE IS GOING TO BE BLOWN UP IN 2012! Now that I've got your attention! LOL! Please read this comment, seriously. OK, I agree with all the people that are saying’ The longer the better,' does anyone realise how depressing it's going to be when we finish Deathly Hallows? No more Harry Potter to look forward to except the movies, and when they finish, what then? Anyway, I live in Melbourne Australia, but I'm only here because of my dad's work, I used to live in and was born in London. Then moved to Tokyo Japan.... Even though I've been down here for 7 years since the year 2000.... ANYWAY! The point is, every year I go to loveable good old UK to visit relatives and it's usually during July, my birth month. God July is so good.... ANYWAY. So when that rare occurrence occurred, like when HBP came out, I was in London. Hopefully that'll happen again this year! I'll be there for Deathly Hallows! Not here. Then again we here In Australia have good bookshops, it's only Kangaroo Jack 'style' in the middle of this dry country. Down here right at the bottom of the Earth, IT'S NORMAL. Lol, just kidding! NO I DON'T WANT THE SERIES TO END! ------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- Who here has read 'The Lord of the Flies,' by William Golding. THAT BOOK DISTURBED ME IT DID.
LOL ANSU! I agree with you on that one! As long as I'm not dead before July the 21st I'm happy. Seriously, the launch of this book for me is like Christmas + Easter + My Birthday x 1,000,000!

oh gosh i m sure we ll all love each and every page.!!
Yay, can't wait. Sniff....end of an era....end of an addiction/obsession.
woohooo! good length realistically speaking. no sleep for a few days when it comes out though.... but i have no problems with that
HPFANTimothy: Pretty immature way to get people's attention! With all the bombs going off in our world you should think before you type. I can understand you miss London,'ain't no better place', you're not the only one. The HP series has been great for all of us, for many it is a great place to escape to and it's hard to realise it's coming to an end.
i cant wait yet i dont want it to end! what will happen when harry potter is over? will we just return to our lives and drift back into society? will we just sit thinking about the end until the rest of our lives? will we still be talking about it for years to come? will we still be as eager to see the movies? will it all just fade away? oh how sad... will some new brilliant author come along with another great series? as i wait for books in other series to come out or the sequels to other books but for my whole life back in my mind i can always look forward to the next harry potter! now what! i feel as if a chunk of my life has led up to this point. i dont want it to end but it cant just go on forever i guess. but afterward people! what will we do? i know what i will do, i will still support mugglenet and jo site , i will still read the books and feel that excitment that harry felt when he first arrived at hogwarts, i will feel overjoyed as harry learns he has a god father he can live with and then feel saddened when he dies at the hands of a death eater. i will still feel the rush when harry picks up his first broomstick, and when i read the last book over and ever i will feel know it is over, but harrys adventures at hogwarts will never really go away will they? they will still be there for us to read again and our children to read after that. so as it may be the end of the series. it is not over, it will never be over. it is the legacy of Harry Potter!
Excellent, excellent. I'm so shocked, it's all going to be over. Harry Potter's a part of me, I don't the series to end sometimes. I don't really care if Harry dies, because he will never die as the one who defeated the Dark Lord.
784 left...in the entire series! As soon as you get all excited about, you start to think about, well, this is it. No more. We find out everything. As wonderful as that sounds, its also sad at the same time. Oh well, all good things come to an end, as they should. Think, if J.K. Rowling kept writing and writing Harry Potter, I think that the plots would become shoddy. So, as depressing as it is, DH is the last. It will be great! I really can't wait. I know that somehow Jo is going to go out with a bang! Go HARRY POTTER! Nevertheless, we can always reread, try and meet Jo etc. And there are the movies left too!
Harry Potter...coming to an end. ... whoa. It's kind of hard trying to remember a time BEFORE almost each and every human knew the term 'Harry Potter'. I mean..there I'll be...just holding the book in my hands...turning to the very last page of the very last book of the very last series which I'll ever ever love this much. God...the thought just kills me. ......................... .......... But IF I DIE...due to an accident or something cr^ppy like that...i swear to god I'm gnna come back from the dead and HAUNT the person who caused the accident...oh yeah...they aren't getting away THAT easy...
I actually thought it would be longer than that! I figured it would be the longest one yet! But, if J.K.Rowling says it is the best one yet...than I am happy!! CAN'T WAIT!!
LISTEN TO THE AUDIOBOOKS!!! Seriously, I love reading the books but because I travel a lot, I listen to Jim Dale narrating Harry's adventures. They are really good and shed new light on the story. If you have never listended to the audiobooks, I encourage you to go to your local library and check them out. It will provide a major boost to your Potter-universe. For me, Potter will end once I have read DH and listened to it on audiobooks....about 10 times. lol. It has been a fun ride and here is to hoping they don't screw up Movie 5 like they did to Movie 3. So far, Movies 1 and 4 have been the best, then 2 then 3. Cuaron was pathetic. I'm out!
That is soooo awesome :-D I really wanted it to be longer than that----longer than OoTP, but that's okay. Still really long though, and I'm happy!
That's more than all of them right??? better be!! the longer the better lol. It's going to be absolute mania when the release date draws nearer, as fans prepare for the *chokes* SEVENTH BOOK.
It's a relief, to me anyways, that the book is going to be 784 pages long. I had been thinking aroung 600 pages since book six came out; and this is a huge sigh of relief that it's longer than I originally thought. Would have I liked 1000 pages? Sure. I would have loved it, but would have that, honestly, tied up every loose end we would have had? No. No matter how long that book was, she wouldn't be able to tie up everything. People thinking that 'oh no! It should be at least 300 pages longer for her to tie up everything!' are kidding themselves. After Order of the Pheonix, I'm sure Jo's editors would have lengthened it down quite a bit. Stop complaing. Those hoping for 1000 pages are living in a dream world.
THATS AWESOME!!!!!!! WHOOOOOOOOO!!! MORE 2 READ!!! YAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!THIS IS SO FRICKIN COOL!!!!!!!!!!
ho my god i love it´s that long whish it would never end haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaa ok people let´s not freek out only a few more days and we can touch it whith our hands i can feel it ... smell it...
Why do we need to read these 784 pages when we all know Harry will be the final Horcrux in a 'surprise' twist - this is the real reason the AK reflected off Harry, Lily created a charm which meant her sacrifice would automatically make the nearest person the killer's Horcrux, she knew it would save his life and destroy Voldemort because Voldemort casting the AK on his own Horcrux would make it reflect back at him. He can't kill his own Horcrux. Harry had the scar BEFORE Voldemort AK'd him, the lightning-bolt marking him as a Horcrux. And in one fell swoop I've solved the series :)
hm...i just realized that it will take me only about 8 hours if i eat up the book, i broke a record last saturday and reread OOTP in only 9 hours...but ill try and read it slow...if i dont, ill just reread it afterwards to see the details i missed
i cant believe they lied to us with tha 688 paes business. i knew that couldnt be true. that was only to make us appreciateee the 784 pgs. well i do not! i thought it would be like a THOUSAND pages. my mum told me itd be like an encyclopedia. i am so dissapointed!!!:(
OMGGGGGG!!! sooooooooooooooooo excited....wish it cuda been longer than OOTP but at least its longer than GOF ....ahhhhhh cant get ova it!! yayness!!!
I read the UK version since I live in Canada. I don't have the books on me at this moment, but as I recall, Books 1, 2 and 5 have a pretty small font, books 3 and 4 about medium, and book 6 the largest, though not by too much compared to 3 and 4. Are the font sizes and margins all the same in the US editions? I know I'm focusing on details, but I just want a general idea of the length of the books. POA is thicker than PS and COS, but considering the small font size of the first 2, i'm not too sure it's a longer read.
Hey, can someone please help me and answer why everyone says they hope DH would be longer than the the order of the phoenix?? It WILL be longer right??!! 784 pages is longer than 766. So, Deathly Hallows WILL be longer than OOTP!! ;)
vampirbabe; the 688 pages buisness was supposed to be concidered as a rumor, and rumors have a way of turning out of being word of mouth misconceptions. Why did you think the book would be a 1000 pages? Jo said Order of the Pheonix would most likely be her longest, and there is no way she'd have 1000 pages in one year of writing. And technically, book seven will be like one volume of an encyclopedia when you think about it. Jo has said this is her favorite book, so I'd rather be excited about that than be dissapointed in how 'short' it may be.
bwof, in the US edition the book was around 890 pages long. I'm not so sure about the UK edition, but that was persumadley in the low 800's. You may be reading a different version of the book, and expect the book to be shorter that Order of the Pheonix, but longer that Goblet of Fire.
I just pitty the screenwriter who's gonna take over the script for the 7th movie.
Woooooooow!!! Excellent!! I love that length!! I thought it was going to be around 1.000 pages (or at least spected that), but think that will do, won't it? It's the largest behind OOTP (the best one). It's perfect!.
i just want to see the cover for it already, is that to much to ask for? also when do we get to see the cover art contest?
