American 'Deathly Hallows' 784 pages!
American 'Deathly Hallows' 784 pages! Scholastic announced today that the US edition of Deathly Hallows will contain 784 pages, making it the second longest book in the series behind OOTP!

Since the US versions of the books are published in a larger font and contain chapter pictures, this should mean the UK version will be around 700 pages long.

The US version of the book will have an initial print-run of 12 million, and the publisher has also revealed that each of these copies "will be printed on paper that contains a minimum of 30% post-consumer waste (pcw) fiber."

The President of Scholastic Trade Publishing and Book Fairs said, "Scholastic worked hard with our suppliers and the Rainforest Alliance to secure this extraordinary amount of recycled and FSC certified paper for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. As a company with an ongoing commitment to protecting the environment for this generation and generations to come, we believe producing this book and our future reprints of Harry Potter books with a minimum of 30% pcw recycled paper is an important publishing decision."

yay i cant wait only 120 days left!!!!!!!!

Posted by elenna12 Mar 21st 2007

YAY!!! Oh, I'm so excited!!! I'm still just a bit disappointed because I so hoped Jo would make it an end to remember, you know, even longer than OotP, like a 1000 pages (that would really be awsome!!) But this is still GREAT!!! At least 700 pages!!! YAY!!! CAN'T WAIT TILL JULY 21ST!!!!!! And now we just need the cover...:):):) Patience, patience...

Posted by bwof Mar 21st 2007

Okay, thanks `Why_Here´ ;).

Posted by bwof Mar 21st 2007

No, No, NO!! @ Quidditchgirl24; I was hoping you were joking but it´s apparently true, according to moviehole.net emma watson has officially quit and walked out from the remaining two potter films!! I can´t believe it! I won´t fully believe it until mugglenet confirms it but if that´s the case she is sooo STUPID!!! How can she do that?? Someone wrote a couple of days ago that if she indeed quits she will only be remembered as the one who quit being part of one of the best franchises ever.

Posted by elenna12 Mar 21st 2007

No, how is that possible? I thought someone said that she will stay till the end? This is so stupid! Not that I care about the movies much, but still... I hate changing actors, the new Dumbledore is a COMPLETE DISASTER. But let's not be hasty, nothing is confirmed. And looking who the person who gave us the mail adress is... Well...

Posted by Quiscalus Mar 21st 2007

How reliable is moviehole.net, does anyone know? Okay, I just read it. They used the same quote as the tabloid magazine did. So for now, I'm assuming Emma will be back.

Posted by Grinch Mar 21st 2007

elenna, you are so correct, the NEW DUMBLEDORE IS A DISASTER. Richard Harris nailed the role while the new Dumbledore is a frickin loon. I dread his adaptation of Dumbledore from HBP, its going to be painful.

Posted by bwof Mar 21st 2007

Yeah I know, none of the Potter fan sites have yet mentioned this so that´s good but I did check the moviehole site and there is an article which states that she would have quit but maybe it´s a site who knows nothing of this!! * Fingers crossed*.

Posted by Quiscalus Mar 21st 2007

Okay, first of all, the link Quidditchgirl24 gave was from 3-19. If you read the article, it has an update about how WB is confident of her return. I also checked the mailbag thingy and this is what it said: "From Helen : That sucks that Emma Watson is quitting Harry Potter. Is this for real? I despise recasting actors. Helen, you need to go back and read the news story again â I assume you read the news story on our page? â and check the bit at the top marked âupdatedâ; Warner Bros has debunked the news, saying that Watson will indeed be back for the next two âPotterâ movies. - Clint"

784 pages is just about perfect--not too long, not too short. I wonder how they came up with an exact page count so early on, though. I was under the impression that Jo still had plenty of editing work ahead of her.

Posted by gryffingirl99 Mar 21st 2007

Wow, this is phenominal! It's a great pagecount, we very easilly could have had less. Not too long, not too short! Thank you for ten wonderful years, Jo!

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayy yyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!! -d oes happy danse- Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!! !!!! -Hands out cookies in the shape of lightning-

Are they going to do another mugglecast minicast about this? They did one about the release date... Maybe they don't consider this as big of a deal...

Posted by Ashlee751 Mar 21st 2007

okay now i want cover art

Posted by meant2be_a_marauder Mar 21st 2007

yay!!! I'm so happy! 784 pages, that means the brit edition will be around 700 so that's good. Can't wait for the cover.

Posted by yoohhoo Mar 21st 2007

That makes the enitre harry potter book 4195 pages! "US edition" How exciting. I wonder If they'll make all the books into one whole book. That would be kind of cool. But if they ever did that It would probably be a while.

Posted by chommy Mar 21st 2007

Aww ... that means for the US people ... everything ... everything will end ... on page 784 ...

Posted by lisa Mar 21st 2007

yay!! that's pretty good. i love when all the news starts coming in.. it makes the wait seem like its coming even faster! :) but i'm not phased at all about book 7 being her 'favorite'. book 6 was her favorite before, wasn't it? and book 4 as well? ahh. i don't know. sketchy -_- lol

Posted by Horcrux8 Mar 21st 2007

darn, that's way too long I'm not sure I'll finish it... just kidding, this is awesome news. Words of Sirius "more, the merrier"

Posted by hp_bookworm Mar 21st 2007

YAY!!! only a tiny bit shorter than OOTP, which is huge.

Posted by jessiethinks Mar 21st 2007

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARY OLDMAN! Oh yeah, and I love how this book is going to be pretty long. If Hagrid has a bit of something stuck in his beard, I want to read about it. I like a lot of details! I like to read about what they wear and what they think and what they smell and everything. It makes the books come alive and I can see it all in my mind as I read it when there are a lot of details.

Posted by luv_hp_4ever Mar 21st 2007

HPFANTimothy okay so i just finishd lord f the flies in class and it was the creepiest most disturboing book i think i have ever read. srry` random but u asked and as yall can probably tell, i am extremely bored. i already wrote a long comment yesterday so im just gonna say that nothing in the world is better than hp and just to clear it up the american version of HBP is 652 pages and the british version is 607 and the american version on Ootp is ?? can't find it right now, but the british version is 766 pages. ojay neway so hp rules all and i luv it sooooooo much. by the way im pretty happy w/ 784 pages. wish it never ended though...

Posted by hummingburdd Mar 21st 2007

mkenagihd!lifhsdighisldhg !!!!!!!!! I CANT WAIT!!! i think that's a good size =D i mean, long is always nice, but i want the story to be just the right length and if thats 784 pages then im happy =) oh and that kicks ass that they put it on recycled paper, the envioronment is so imortant, and im glad they realize that.

Posted by Natida Mar 21st 2007

Wooohoooo!!! I love long books! Of course, I will probably spend about two days reading from 12 in the morning to 4 in the morning every day, but I just love it! I can't wait until july 21. I read OotP in two days and a half, practically taking the book with me everywhere. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, bed, bathroom, traveling. My mother practically went crazy. But anyway, I really love the idea of Deathly Hallows being long but not as long as OotP. Yay!

Posted by latif687 Mar 21st 2007

i agree with elenna also, the new "dumbledore" is a COMPLETE DISASTER!!!" remember that part in the GOF movie when harry's name is pulled out of the goblet, "dumbledore" rushes into the room where the champions are and roughly starts shaking Harry! WHAT A RETARD!!

Posted by HPgeek4LIFE Mar 21st 2007

i am really excited about this book. they are really gonna hold it over our heads. it sucks.

Posted by Dadu701 Mar 21st 2007

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! i hate this! i really wanted it to be super long! dont you guys understand this is the LAST ONE!!! i wanted all of my questions answered. its cuz a lot of stupid people rushed her so much...darn it i knew this would happen

Posted by _lilys_eyes_ Mar 21st 2007

ehh..... I'm sort of having mixed feelings about this one. Since its wrapping up EVERYTHING in one book and its shorter than OOTP, so i guess that tells us that its not going to drag on and on. Still, who wants this to end? umm...no one???

Posted by Mugglebornmuggle Mar 21st 2007

AGGH! 784 PAGES!! Must... go... pre...order... And get tickets to the next movie on fandango...

Posted by Mnemone07 Mar 21st 2007

Sigh...I was hoping for 1,000 to 2,000 pages...I mean, I want to be forced to draw it out, not read it in 3-4 hours...oh well. It's gonna be amazing no matter what!

Posted by AnyaMarcos Mar 21st 2007

WOW, that's AWESOME!!!! And isn't it great that they're using that much recycled paper? July can't come fast enough!

Posted by lisa_dee Mar 21st 2007

Yay! At least it's not like 600 pages ;]

Posted by Hermione_Granger090894 Mar 21st 2007

I don't want it all to come to an end! Oh well.. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON THAT BOOK!! =)

Posted by Hermione_Granger090894 Mar 21st 2007

I don't want it all to come to an end! Oh well.. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON THAT BOOK!! =)

Posted by dumbledorephoenix Mar 21st 2007

OMG! Well, I am glad they have released the # finally, and I cant believe that I was so close. I guessed 777 back in the post saying that it was 600 sumthin. I cant believe i got so close. 7 OFF! all well, I wish it was longer, it being the final book and all.

Posted by Laewin Mar 21st 2007

Aww... it's only 784... Oh well. But still! We're that close to the end! Oh noo!!! I think I should still be able to do it in 24 hours... YES

Posted by gandalfxj9 Mar 21st 2007

For anyone wondering, the UK versions will be around 681 pages! OMG I'M WATCHING "TIL DEATH" AND THEY JUST MENTIONED HARRY POTTER...wow that was like a whack in the head. it always comes when you least expect it...lol

Posted by loopy4lupin Mar 21st 2007

I'm really excited about the page count. I was hoping for it to be longer than OotP, but at least it's not the rumoured 608 pages. That would suck. So today I just realized that my Harry Potter life would end in 4 months and 784 pages. What should I do with my life after that?

Posted by flippinfool13 Mar 21st 2007

around 700???I guess I'm surprised because i didn't think everything could be wrapped up in 700 pages... I don't want hp to ever end...*cries*

Posted by EnglishR0se Mar 21st 2007

lol retard Americans need bigger fonts and pretty pictures

Posted by tigerchic Mar 21st 2007

I'm not particularly happy with the amount of pages. Not because I'm a crazy person who is like 'roar, 1000 plus pages or else', but it's THE last book, and I really expected it to be bigger the OoTP. Plus, way back when, I remember interviews with her, where she said she wanted the seventh book to be bigger then the most in-depth encyclopedia around, and def. bigger then all the others.

Posted by granger1019 Mar 21st 2007

I knew it would be the 2nd largest book, but tonight I just realised that this book is going to be bigger than the 4th book. Kinda silly, I know, but its just REALLY weird, especially the part of how I just realised it now...

Posted by Chai Mar 22nd 2007

but, WHY?! i know Jo would probably write all the info we need to make the story complete n' full circle and all- but if it's the last HP, why not go out with a bang and write... say a whole series as a last book? eh? EH? *sobs* I just can't let it go!! =( It does seem quite short for what we expect to learn, though.

Posted by lili87 Mar 22nd 2007

I'm so excited! And the 21st is my birthday!!! Best birthday ever!

Posted by districtsleeps_alone Mar 22nd 2007

Fantastic. Although I wouldn't have minded a thousand-something page book, this length is fine by me; I found HBP felt a little short the first few times that I reread it. I am very excited for this book!

Posted by lunagirl95 Mar 22nd 2007

Posted by weirdmuggle Mar 22nd 2007

Yay! I was hoping for a bit more, around 1000, but 784 will do. I'm glad it finally came out. Now I'm hoping that Jo will update her website soon...
